My Novak Ionic charger will charge while using AC, but it will not charge at 4 amps in DC mode. The charger turns off when I select the 4 amp mode when I use a DC source. The charger will charge at the .5 amp and 1 amp rate while using a 12volt battery. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Hi Todd, Sorry, but unfortunately you will likely need to send the Charger in for Warranty Service. You can find complete details in the Customer Service Section of www.teamnovak.com

Thanks
Charlie

The AC/DC Ionic charger in DC mode must have a very stong 12v + supply. You can try shorting the power leeds to 18-20 " this will help. If you are using a power supply check the output voltage should be aroud 13.8v

The way Novak put it to me was that the Ionic charger was very sesitive to the DC votage input, I sent mine in for the same thing and was told the unit had no problems. Go fig

The mian problem happens when you usa a car battery to power the Ionic, the bat ussualy has about 11.5 - 12.3 v and that is at the bottom end of the voltage requierment for the Ionic 12-15v. When the voltage drops bellow 12v the Ionic shuts off. If you are using a power supply you should have no problems as most are set at 13.8v, Ihave not tried this but you mite be able to charge wile the car is running? that is around 14v. I'm using a Alinco DM-330mvt power supply 32 amp it's used for ham radios
