How are you all doing? My name is Brad, and I am from Ohio. I've always had interest in RC modeling, but never really got into it. I owned an original Tamiya Blackfoot several years ago, but haven't done much since. I have a couple questions before I plop down my money and really get into this.
I am looking at buying a Nitro powered truck. I am pretty sure I am gonna buy a stadium truck, but it is hard not to look at the T-Maxx. Would the T-maxx have a prayer of racing with say a Nitro Rustler? I own a bunch of land and a construction company, so I plan on building a track. Just something to play on, nothing major. I'm not planning on becoming a pro, but I have a few friends who own T-maxx's and I would like to have the faster truck.
Second, what does the numbers on the engines mean? I tried to figure it out but i think I am stumped. For example the t-maxx has a 2.5 engine. Does that mean 2.5cc? Does the .15 on the rc10gt mean cubin inches? The way i figured if that was true, the 2.5 is actually just about a .15. Like I said, I'm new and may be completely out of the park. Hopefully you all will guide me through this and help a newbie get going in your hobby. Who knows, maybe some of you are from around southern ohio and would like a place to race and play. I have the land, I've got the equipment, just give me a shout. Here's to hoping I have found the forum that will help me along until I become one of you.

Well if you get a tmaxx youll have to put in a bunch of money into it to beat them (unless they have no skill and your great)

if i where you wait till august and get the Savage SS its a kit so youll have to put it toghther which is great becuase youll know the car inside and out and it is really much better to learn that way.

The Savage SS comes with alot of hop up already. all you realyl need to buy is a radio.

If you get a staduim truck youll defintly have the advantage becuase youll be smaller, but alittle faster. but they will be able to run you over. and youll probably feel liek the odd man out

Try going to the Nitro Forum. Ask your question there and see if that helps better.

welcome to the board.:)

first off, you are correct about your engine analaysis, the trx 2.5 (the engine thats in the rustler and tmax) is a .15 ci engine.

what do you want to use your truck for, if you just want to mess around on a track, a stadium truck would be fine, but if you want to go rock crawling and go in the woods etc a monster truck would probably be better. i personally have a team losi xxx-nt (stadium truck) and love it, but you are not me;)

if you do decide to go with a monster truck i agree with malibu4bbl, wait for the savage ss, i think that the savage is the best designed monster truck around, AND you get to build the SS version AND it comes with a .25 engine......:D

Welcome.
I'm from ohio too. But I'm from the akron canton area. If you have a construction site to play on you should get a monster truck (maxx, savage, terra crusher) If I was you I'd wait for the savage ss to come out. Talk one of your friends into buying one and then buy his or someone from here's maxx used. Save yourself some money. That's something you'll learn about r/c is that people always have to have the latest greatest but a year before when the old model was the best no one complained. If you guys do build a track and you want to be the faster than them. Practice, practice, practice. Trust me I am a fairly experienced driver and have been beat by a stock motor guy when I'm running mod(I'm talking electric offroad buggy here) . It's all about driver control. As far as being the fastest: the stadium truck is faster but it is not as durable when it comes to constuction site sized jumps(you will break stuff) also the ground clearance is considerably better on the monster. And if you don't know yet; the gearing is adjustable on either so you can always gear the monster for more top end if it's desired. My maxx is geared to do about 50mph but I mostly run in the grass and on the road. On a construction site someone who has their truck geared to do 35mph would probably walk all over me because of the time it takes for mine to wind out.

As you think of questions you can always pm us through this board. Most of us love to talk r/c that's why were here.

Big Oregon welcome aboard, Ohio, the general forum is fine for your questions, but I've given you one over in the Nitro forum, C. Ya there!

BTW about the engine size - there was a post here a while back about that specifically but I can't locate it. There was also a reference that the 2.5 in the Traxxas engine is actually deceiving. According the the Dec 2002 issue of RC nitro, which benched the 2.5:

" . . . TRX 2.5 engine, which displaces 2.5cc- the equivalent of .15 ci, just like the original TRX .15."

So you can deduct that when someone says a .12 or .15 you are talking about .15 .12 or .15 cubic inches, and the reference on the 2.5 is in cubic centimeters. Marketing ploy. :D

hey, there are more ohio people on this board than I thought. Hey blownsi, I live in Strongsville, its a suburb of Cleveland, your only about an hour away from you. Welcome to the boards fellow ohio resident! You would have to put some money into the T-Maxx to get it to keep up with the Rustlers, but if you have a lot of land AND the equipment to build your own track, i would not pass up the opportunity to get a Maxx. Go Bucs!

Hey strongsville,
How is the big hobby shop near you? I have often thought about driving up there just to check it out. I've been to strongsville once back when I worked for domino's. My ex boss is from there.

Any other ohioans?
