just got the 1/12 miss bud and started to break in. it did not seem right at first and no water was coming out of the side. i brought it in and everything looked ok, so i tried it again. same thing, no water and it seemed to be cavitating. then all of a sudden it kicked in like a clutch or something and it took off good with water coming out and running nice laps. i brought it in to check for a loose prop or something but it seems fine. second tank it did the same thing, brought it in to check it out and nothing, so i put it back in and ran it for a second and it kicked in again like a clutch or something. i brought it in and decided to ask the pro's here for some advise. could it be from having it so rich for break in? please, any help is appreciated. by the way, i am brand new to nitro boats.

I never had that problem with the nitro I have and now I'm more deidicated to gas. But there are a few nitro guys here who know their stuff. Hold tight and one of them will read your post and give you what help they can.
Good luck

My guess is a launch problem...
I think the boat does not have enough momentum when it hits the water and it just kinda plows around till it eventually grabs enough water to get up to step. I have experienced this problem with my miss bud but unlike yours. when I mess up (the launch) it will never get up on plane. It just chugs around the pond till I bring it back and throw it in the water correctly... (I thinks the difference between our boats if the manufacturer. they just have some yahoo spreading epoxy & resin in these boat and I am sure that they do not have a specific tolerance of a tight q.c. program)
You might turn the needle out just a little bit also. It might be a little lean for the launch(if it is not broken in all the way) and it just chugs around till the cylinder loads up with nitro then takes off....
That's my 2 cents.... any other advise guys?

that could be, i am just setting it in the water since i am breaking it in still. i havent givin it a good toss yet because i have the canopy off for more air flow. maybe not a good idea but i thought so. also, it is so rich it barely runs. i will try a good toss with the canopy on. i thought about finishing the break in with the gravity feed water trick. any other thoughts? thanks

I HELPED A FREIND BREAK IN HIS AND HIS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FIGHTING TO GET ON PLANE WITH A LITTLE EXTRA HELP ON THE LAUNCH THE BOAT WENT WELL AND GOT UP ON PLANE FAST.THE BOAT ACTS LIKE ITS GOT PROP CAVITATION ,HAVE NOTICED WHEN YOURE FAR SHORE AND THE BOAT SLOWS DOWN THAT TAKE A LOT TO GET IT MOVING AGAIN,EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO SAID ITS THE NATURE OF HYDRO'S.

keep running it in the pond rich, to break it in. Run it with the cowling in place. This way the engine will be broke in, in its natural condition to match your boat. I also recomend adding a little castor oil to your fuel for breaking in the engine. There is also a real good post on here about breaking in engines. Give it a good toss and have a good time.

i decided to finish the break in with the garden hose, bucket trick. it ran perfect, the head stayed real cool. anyway, i noticed the prop was almost stopping when the engine was at idle, so i touched my finger against it and it stopped just like it had a clutch. i know it doesnt. the next thing i know the whole prop and shaft slide out the back. i looked inside the boat and the set screw was laying there. i bet that was my trouble the whole time. i think i read somewhere else here that a guy lost his whole setup in the pond. i am going to put it back together and try again today on the water if it doesnt rain. i will post my result. we are getting ready to break in my friends new one also. you can bet that is the first thing we check out.

use a dab of blue threadlock on the setscrew
oh yeah, don't touch the prop while it's running. your fingers will thank you
