I can just imagine a 1/10 truck going at 70 on the highway oh the look on people's faces. :D

07-10-2003, 01:29 AM
umm, why?
A truck that fast can't turn off-road at 70 mph. And if you hit a jump at that speed, you'd never see it again, and when you did find it, it would look more like a kit than a RTR.

i doubt it's going to handle very well, and 500 dollars for that much i can stuff a .21 in a Nitro MT, if the price goes down maybe, but i think this thing is gonna be somewhat of a ripoff...

70+mph sound's too much like a fantasy, I doubt it will be off-road, this will be a stadium truck at the most.

ah but then again what people fail to realize, IT is a Schumacher, it could be much like the fusion, we'll never know until we can try it out.
DCLXVI

And it looks like a modified XTR...that one goes fast as hell...
You can clearly see that the truck is based off the Fusion drivetrain and this would also give the truck the gearing options from the Fusion. The Fusion was just reviewed in the latest Car Action "Touring Car" edition and was clocked at 73mph. If this truck runs the same gearing as the Fusion with its larger tires, then I see no reason why those speeds wont be reached....Obviously those speeds are done on-road, but it will still be the fastest truck on or off-road:D :D

Hi Guys, I'm Adrian from Schuamcher USA.
mugenseike - Speed Question: 2 weeks ago Schu UK took the Menace 21 to a dragstrip. They don't have a radar gun that can accuratly capture our cars at speed (readings fluctuate too much) so they ran the Menace alongside a real car with the guy running the menace in the passenger seat (please don't try this at home). With 70mph on the speedometer the Menace easily could pull ahead of the test car. Given the speedo error most cars have we feel secure that 70mph is possible.
TitansGT4 - I'm not sure if anyone makes a .21 kit for the HPI Nitro MT but with kit and motor it will certainly cost more than $429.99 w/o the radio. The most important thing to consider is that the Menace was designed to have a .21 in it from day one. It is not small block nitro kit with a big block shoehorned into it. The Fusion 21 has been out for almost a year now and you never hear about drive train durability issues. The Menace will be the same.
moorerc - I totally agree...70mph off road is a bad idea...but...this is America! Land of big block Chevys and Dodge Hemis. There is no such thing as too much power! Every transmitter I have ever owned had a trigger that allows you to have throttle control between on and off. Buyers of the Menace will certainly have to use this feature of transmitters.
With regards to handling...all the testers so far say it runs like a little a 1/8th buggy. It uses standard 2.2" truck tires whick are almost as big as 1/8th tires. Just don't expect it (or any other car) to make a 180 at the end of a straight with the throttle pinned!
Just in case you guys don't get it my sense of humor works its way into everything. Don't take anything I say personally...Later!

The first Menace SHOULD roll off the line at the end of this month. We will have them in the US 4-5 business days later.
If you want one call your local hobby shop ASAP. The response to this kit has been staggering so far. A lot of shops wanted to get in line for this kit early and there are a lot of advance orders already.

Hmm...I want one...it will have to go after the TXT-1, EK-4, RC10L3 and RC10B4 I'm planning on...hope you will still be making the kit in about 1½ years... :D

How do they have performance tests, but no pictures of the chassis? I mean, the actual chassis, not cad drawings.
Hey possum....Checkout this month's issue of Car Action! They did a "First Look" article with pics of the actual truck. All the suspension will be up dated for production, but you can get the basics from the pics.

Me neither possum....LOL

Well I have a 3E and Love the thing! I already placed an order with my not so local hobby shop, but the one I prefer!
AdrianM- Does the Menace wheelie like the 3E, if so will it have the wheelie bar? What are the gearing options for the speed freaks, who want more?
And yes this Body is the Nicest Body I have seen on a RTR! :D I am buying one in blue, because I use the Team Losi Dirt Spec Tires in Blue and that Body would match the tires color perfectly! I would suggets looking into possibly a different background color along with the flames, rather than the standard silver. The body does look Awesome though!
Will the Menace have the same rims as the 3E, where you will only be able to use rims made by Schumacher? Or will they make it a standard hex and allow you to use other rims?
Thanks, and keep us updated!

Any idea what the RRP is on these things (in £)? Surely it would be similar to the fusion?
I must have one :D
Hobson
07-25-2003, 07:41 AM
According to the Schumacher July newsletter, its going to be £329.99 kit or £399.99 RTR.
AdrianM
07-25-2003, 03:36 PM
vsnakebytev - Schumacher's R&D department are saying no wheelies. The stock gearing has been more than enough, but the stock Fusion gear will fit.
The Menace 21 doesn't share any parts with the XTR 3E other than the engine and 3-speed gears:D The wheels will be all new and will use the industry standard hex drive system:D
Slight delay in production and release date has been moved back to late August:mad:
vsnakebytev
07-28-2003, 01:14 AM
I dont mind the delay.... if that means I will get one that works properly with no problems, it will be worth the wait!
I had a problem with the 3E, and I waited 6 months for that.... but hey I got it fixed under warenty. So I dont mind that either.
Adrian- What other options of colors will there be for the Body? What tires and rims do you intend on putting on the Menace with out sharing them from the 3E?
Great idea on the Rims! I will be looking forward to the Menace! I believe its worth the wait...:D
AdrianM
08-01-2003, 02:46 PM
The Menace will come with chrome dish rims.
vsnakebytev
08-01-2003, 02:51 PM
Well my other question I had was what other colors will the body be available in? I like the black with white stripes like you see in the newest Xtreme R/C. I like the blue flames too, but I would like to see another color back ground besides silver.
AdrianM
08-01-2003, 04:47 PM
At the moment there will be only 2 colors available. Red flames on silver and blue flames on silver. Mor may be added later.
Remember that the ANY body made for the T-Maxx will also fit the Menace perfectly so you have LOTS of choices. I am partial to the Pro-Line Sierra race body.
vsnakebytev

I already bought two. I got the first 2 in California... pre-payed... I have one prob though... I live in Cozumel Mex. They will get to me in about 2 weeks. Cant wait. The hobby shop told me that they seem to be built very nicely. Even has a dust or dirt cover over the plastic gears...
Will let everyone know how it runs when I get it...
I have a custom RC10-GT with the same .21 motor, XT tranny and the three speed, with the high speed bell gear. I also have the xtr... this GT handles MUCH better, jumps like a GT and ALMOST handles like one, and the best part about it is that at ANY speed, dead stop also I can gun it... and all 4-wheels are planted. I can really use the power on this car. Unlike the XTR. This GT FRLIES by doing at least 70mph!!! And handles the speed PERFECTLY... I can hit top speed 3rd gear EVERY TIME!!! And it stops perfectly.
If anyone is interest in seeing pics, or see how to make it let me know. It took some work.
Thanks

i suppose you can. But as I understand it the 3-speed gears are setup for the power and rpm of the thunder tiger. put a more powerfull motor and the entire gear changing "dynamics" go's off beat. You would have to change or cut the springs inside the gears...
do you have a menace yet?

gents:
ran my 3rd tank.... still pretty rich... 207 was my highest temp... didnt really gas it to hard... but did once or twice... BATT OUT OF HELL!!!
She runs straight as an arrow, VERY stable... one thing that I LOVE so far... is that all four tires are planted... ALWAYS... yet to see if they stay planted leaned out and at the correct temp.. My 5-cell died so it will be a few hours before I can lean it out.
Drove it on a SLIPPERY dirt area and she charges straight....
have you ever put your 2wd stadium truck against your foot... gas it... to kinda "open" its throat.... well I did it to this and it climbed over my foot...lol... cant wait to see it on the track.
once its full force Ill check back... remember.... I have an MBX-5 to compare this to... so no mercy here....

ok its pretty much broken in.... leaned out
its insanely fast. dont have enouph room in front of my house to get 3rd...
dead stop blast... this truck will never see a wheelie.... GREAT!!! perfectly stable at high speeds, can be thrown around at high speeds and does not flip over...
crashed at about 40mph... flipped and did about 5 HARD cart wheels... on the concrete... I thought for sure something was going to break... or maybe a turn buckle un-snap... flipped it right over and finished the tank. I took it in for a check up... and it was absolutly perfect... other than some nice scratches on the body. Ran 2 more tanks blasting down the road, and blasting down a flat dirt road.... and nothing happend to it.
4 tanks later I checked the entire car... and not one loose screw.
It launches the start like my buggy, only a little looser. Unsure if its quicker... but its defenetly faster...
It reminds me a lot of my .21 3speed GT. Hooks up nicer though. We ran my stock GT after... it has a .15 OS.... and it looks like a toy when comparing the speeds.
It grabs the loose dirt and drives straight... VERY quickely. High speed turns in dirt and does nice controlled power slides.
Suspension feels great, turns on a dime, great front tire responce with a normal servo.
its charging awaiting the real testing tomorrow on the track.
It defenetly seems to hold together better than a GT.... at GT speeds on the track it should do fine... my only concern is the speeds its capable of... it can crash MUCH harder than a GT... more like a buggy... dont think any 1/10 hardware can handle such hard crashes... BUT with some throttle control around the track... im confident it will run circles around any stadium truck.
I will find out tomorrow. If nothing breaks.... im heading straight to my special spot for the high speed run... 3rd gear.... see how it does....
will report tomorrow.....

ok
I ran the menace at the track. I am VERY impressed with its performance. It was beyond what I expected. It turns very nicely and is a very good jumper. I said I was going to take it easy at first... well I did for the first lap... then I was all over the track... cleared every double and ate up the track..... and took a couple of huge spills... the car is in the same shape as when I got there.
It does take some thottle control, but if you have that, theres no touching this truck. It feels like a small buggy.
We did a 6 lap race... 2 GT's and my menace. I lapped them both... almost twice...
All-in-all
It is very strong, screws dont fall apart, very nimble, nice in flight and a nice lander.
Keep in mind that its still a 1/10 truck and is as brittle as one. If you drive it like a 1/10 scale, theres no touching it.
Track performance its beyond what I expected. I cant say that my GT does anything better. The Menace definetly stays together better.

10-13-2003, 12:27 PM
I have had one for about a month, at least enough time to wear out the tires. I have yet to hit 3rd gear, run out of space, but it is scary fast! The power is unbelievable and scary, I launched the thing off a big table top without thinking, flew straight but I broke a rear A-Arm when it landed. It probably was about 6 feet in the air and cleared about 15ft, so I was not surprised I broke it.

Do you think the lap times would be close to your mugen ?
Pat
the rock
10-13-2003, 07:17 PM
well its hard to tell right now. Im not as used to the menace as I am the buggy. The buggy can definetly go faster on the straight and not flinch at road bumps ect. The menace you have to take it easier as its lighter and gets thrown around much easier.
I can charge harder on the buggy. For instance I can come almost full speed on the buggy around a sweeper and it just handles better... the menace is more squirly. But its weird... my track I THINK is more 1/10 scale track... so around my track the menace with some practice MIGHT be able to get around quicker.... If its a faster bumpier track the buggy will out perform it.
But just the fact that I think that on my track it might be able to keep up to the buggy is a huge statement. Tell you what... next time im out in the track im going to do three tests. Ill do two 5 lap runs with my GT... same with my Mugen and same with my menace... and I will have a stop watch checking every lap... and we'll see how they all 3 compare.
Does anyone know of a lazer timer thats small enough to check the times??

Glad to hear it's a good truck, But it's not for me. I like the wheelies (T-maxx, Mad Force). I DO own a fusion and a 3E and love them both, But I don't see any reason for me to get this one. Keep in mind I do not race I'm just a backyard basher. I'm sure it will make a good racer. Good luck with the truck and thanks for all the updates:)

thx.... just a note... I also am a basher... in fact it was the original reason I got the menace. I built my track WAY after I ordered it.
Well I also have the 3E.... and let me tell you something... the menace runs circles around it. In a bashing situation the menace is way beyond... but no wheelies... If wheelies is your idea of bashing... than the menace cant help you there.... but if bashing is 0-70mph.... powerslides at HIGH speeds.... getting air, braking, handling, climbing etc tc etc... the menace is the untimate basher.
I took my 3E to the track... and its silly... it fell apart every time.
and if you ever decide to take it to a track... look out!!!
but the menace is much quicker of the line and faster top speed. 4 planted tires on the ground move much quicker than 2. This car is controllable at any speeds.
just a thought.... GET IT!!!! TRUST ME!!!

for you menace owners... defenitly do the following.
Take your motor out, and you will notice that right behind the fly wheel on the chassi, the plasitic piece that seals the drive belt. On the part were the plastic seal starts to angle up, theres an open part that leaves a LITTLE hole and exposes the belt.
I have not had a problem yet but I went ahead and sealed it with some silicone, also on the front right of the car. I took my motor out for some maintance and it was covered with dirt and mud there. I got lucky that nothing got in.
Also lock tight the nut that holds the spur gears together. My came a little loose and I shreaded the 2 internal plastic pieces that the cross pins lock into.

I got my menace and It is a great basher. It is very tough as compared to a GT. I flipped it many times and nothing broke or bent. It needs some tuning to be a better jumper. It is alot more pitch sensitive than my savage or MP-6. I'm not used to 1/10 scale. I don't know if the shocks are too soft or If It bounces because there isn't foam in the tires. I have some Questions. Are the shocks the same size as GT shocks so I can try different springs that are readily available and what is a good tire to use for mixed driving (on and off road) , also does anyone else make rims that will fit ?
Pat
the rock
10-17-2003, 10:42 PM
well the shocks are a little shorter than the gt. the first thing I did was put some foam inserts... gotta have those. I took the menace on my track and it performed excellent. The suspension held up REALLY good. The menace is set up a little stiffer than my GT... but thats ok because of the added weight.
Shumac has a secret buggy coming out... and the menaces suspension was actually designed for this full legal race buggy. Thats why the suspension is so nice.
As far as the tires I use PRO-LINE Dirt Works #1072 if im going street and dirt driving. Its a great all terrain tire.
Im not to sure on the rear hex size... I thought they were going to be the standard size... but they seem to be quite larger....

After running it a couple times this is our favorite truck. The kids like it alot more than the savage ss because its alot faster and doesn't roll over near as much. Also the engine is great and never stalls where as the savage tuning seems to keep changing. This is the most fun rc we have ever had. Get one you will love it!

hey hugh
the truch has been running great. ive been wanting to time the laps compared to my other cars but i just havnt done it. im looking to buy a lap timer....
but it has been running great!!!
what kind of driving will you be doing?
That's great to hear. My only real concern was the engine. I haven't heard much about it in terms of reliability and performance. Come to think about it,I haven't heard much about the Menace at all. You are the only person I've found online that owns one. If any others do,they don't talk about it. They are hard to find at stores too. Where did you get yours? My LHS has never even heard of it. They're the local Hobbytown "village idiots" though that have never heard of 3/4 of the rc products out there. Every time I'm in there,I chuckle when I here their guys giving out soooo much b.s. and sales pitches to sell their products(i.e., telling a 13 year old boy Christmas shopping with grandma that the Losi Mini T goes 35mph out of the box!!). That sort of thing really pi$$e$ me off. Didn't mean to babble......anyways. Where do I plan to run you ask? I have a track in a field behind my house http://www.******.net/member/Hugh ,open flat hard grass field behind my house, lighted shopping center parking lot 1 mile away, beach 2 miles away and an "under construction" shopping center 1 mile away(it is AWESOME!!):D The track is more complete since the photos were taken. Built the driver stand and got corrugated border around it. It turned out great. I need to widen it up by 2 ft... When I do,I'll post updated pics. I'd love to hear some race results from your Menace when you get the chance. Keep us updated. Thanks alot, rock. BTW,the link is are see pics dot net.

as far as the motor... I couldnt be happier. I currently own 3 cars with identical motors... and beleive me... is it wasnt reliable of easy to tune... i would never make the same mistake twice...
thats funny about the mini t... I have one... i dont hink it will do 7mph.... i ordered the upgraded motor and battery pack and it might do between 15-20mph....
I will keep you posted on my menace.
I can't post the direct link, but the site is rc pics dot net.

I have owned ofna, picco, RB, HPI, and other .12 and .21 engines and the thunder Tiger engine was one of the best I have had. No worries about reliability or power they are both top notch. Associated put it in there Monster GT....that should tell you how good an engine it is.
Hey guys,
I just got a Menace for Christmas. It's the ARTR version and I haven't finished putting the radio stuff in there yet. So, while I'm waiting anxiously to fire it up for the first time, I figured I'd ask a couple of questions.
1. The pipe has the pressure nub on the bottom. In my experience, this has always been a no-no. Anyone have problems with this yet?
2. The wheel hexes are indeed larger than standard 2.2 hexes (as mentioned earlier in the thread). They look to be the same size as T-Maxx/Savage hexes. Are there any other alternatives? I haven't taken the hex off yet to see what it looks like underneath, but I'd like to get some different wheels on there at some point. Think a different hex will fit?
3. I have zero experience with TORX screws. The wrench that they give you seems just a little shy of junk. Do they come in standard sizes like hex wrenches? And if so, which sizes do I need?
nitro_xtr21
12-26-2003, 05:47 AM
well the layshaft has locked up on mine so no menace over xmas 4 me
buy a torx t10 4 your screws:confused:
Well, I finally got a chance to start the break-in of the new truck. So far, I'm really impressed. It starts really easy and seems to idle as long as I need it to. Has anyone had any trouble with this E-Start thing? I've had trouble with HPI RotoStart deal on my Savage (it eats one way bearings like crazy) and I'm really hoping that doesn't happen with the Menace engine. I should be able to get a 3rd tank through it today (weather permitting) and then start leaning it out. Not going above half throttle is hard, but it's still pretty quick even then!
I pulled one of the hexes off the axle, and it looks like a regular 2.2 hex will fit, but I haven't tested it yet. I'll do that today.
I bought a better Torx driver. It's much better than the one that comes with the truck. Still, I hope I don't have to go into the radio box all that much.
By the way, there's a short video of a Menace doing some speed runs on beatyourtruck.com (http://www.beatyourtruck.com). It only got to second gear, but it looked really fast!

I tried calling you guys this morning but the call seems to go somewhere else... anyways... Im having some annoying issues with my car. Ok...... I have only ran my car at my local track. I have already gone through 4 1st gear hubs. I have lock tightened the spur screw, done everything posible so it will not let the hub seperate.... but the jumping and rattleing gets the best of it.
What do you suggest???
My questions is if there is an aluminum 1st gear hub available?
I know that wont cure the problem... but at least it will keep me from buying hubs all the time... to just retightening...
THANKS FOR THE HELP....

ROCK- Can you send some of your broken 1st gear hubs to us? We will replace them at no charge. Since the first shipment of Menaces we have not heard of people stripping the hub anymore. We had an issue with the 3 spd assembler not tightening them down enough. If the nut at the end of the shaft is not tight the pin in the 1sr gear hub will knock around and eventually strip it out. We have had this 3 speed out for 2 years in the Nitro 21 and the Fusion 21 with no issues.
RE: Glowplugs
Use ANYTHING that is long thread and does not have an idle bar. The TT 21 Pro engine will run with darn near any plug. I dont know what TT did when designing this engine but its unbelieveably tolerant of varioust fuels and plugs. We have gotten cars in for service with short plugs that ran fine too!
The kit tires do not need foam. The are almost plastic and do not need the support of foam to hold their shape. You'll see what we mean when you get the car. Back in the day when off road racing was on real dirt not this clay/concrete hard tires with big spikes were the hot ticket and we never ran inserts. You only need inserts to support soft tire.
Out U6701 Venom street truck tires need inserts as they are soft but not the kit tires.

CRSMP5 - We can sell you a pull start for $29.99 and a new engine back plate for $49.99 so you can convert to pull start or you can go to Target can get a Black and Decker 6v drill for $19.99.
No one that has ever used the e-start has ever asked for a pull start. Pull starts = broken strings, broken springs and they wear with time. The e-start is so simple and reliable it just makes sense.

IT worked on my fusion so it should work on the menace since the chassis are similar. The one obstacle you run into when upgrading motors is the e-zstart system will not work on the new motor. I had a hyper21-8port that I wanted to put into my fusion I didnt want pullstart, e-zstart would not work with this motor. However, the Hpi rotostart system fits . All I had to do was put the rotostart on the back of the motor, redrill the mounting hole on the hyper and drop it into the fusion. Thundertiger21 is rated a 2.1 horsepower, Hyper-21 is rated at 2.5 horsepower. Here are some pictures at this link http://community.webshots.com/user/nitrohead100

B!!- Does standard 2.2 hexes fit on the driveshafts? If they do, I have some awesome/wheels tires from the OFNA Pirate 10 Monster that will work. They are standard 2.2 hex size and will transform this stadium truck into a monster truck. Just imagine how much faster it will be due to the larger wheels/tires!
I really wish the Menace was out before I bought this truck (Pirate 10). EVERYTHING in it is breaking! It was probably some old sedan chassis that they had laying around and decided to put on some off-road tires and shoehorn a .21 engine in it. Here is some pictures of the wreckage that I enountered running it on pavement during only 2 tanks of break-in for the engine!:

Is the Menace durable? I don't want to buy another fancy paperweight. If it is durable, I will order the car.
Also, I have an XTM 24.7 Pro engine leftover from my Pirate. Will it work with this car? I heard the gears in the transmission were desgined for the Thunder Tiger engine. Is this true?

Yes, it appears that standard HPI hexes for 2.2 wheels will fit. I took a wheel and hex off my NMT to test it. However, the axles on the Menace are a little shorter, so the nut doesn't secure on the axle as well as I would like. It's really close though.

Believe it or not, I actually have a starter box but not a cordless drill (only corded). I would hate to pay 50 bucks to start this car when I paid $100 to start all my other cars!

I was looking for some extended arms in alm along with the drive line extended. Then I was hoping for a lower gear ratio so that bigger tires work. The stable max rims fit, but they need to be offset about 1/4" more. That is the reason for the inqirey into longer arms. This all came about today when I was running my menace in a field with my buddy and his savage was smoking me due to the extra ground clearce in the taller grass.

good idea vetman.i kinda like the idea of having a monster menace or just a wider menace for stability.as for lowering the gear ratio i could live with that, because lets face it how many of us will see our cars doing the 70+mph ? it might be one of the reasons we purchased the beasts, but if mine was a monster truck with a 50+mph top speed i,d still have the silly grin on my face every time i use it:D if any one has got a few cars to pull apart and swap bits please let us all know the results

Got the truck today and was easy to start (prime her up and she started right up) wow this thing is loud !!!
Pretty much broke in tonite but gunna take it easy for one more tank then i will let her rip tomorow..also will be racing it this weekend ..stay tuned....

Would a set of Proline masher 2000's fit the bill for larger tires? Would you still need longer A-arms to clear these tires? They are for 2.2 rims and have a 4.9 in. diameter.
I have been holding up on my purchase of a Menace until I can find some way of changing the gear ratio. I emailed Schumacher and they said they don't sell different pinion gears and now that I think about it that makes sense since the 3-speed is set from the factory for the TT .21 and the factory gearing.
I wonder if you can change the output gear that turns the belt? That way you do not affect the engine/transmission combo and it should still shift at the right rpm/load.
Just a thought.

I live here in tampa and the guys at schumacher are great!!!!! yes the masher 2000 will fit, stock. also I have now doubled the ground clerance of the menace with mnor alteration. I put the pipe ant header in front of the engine and used wire ties to hold it up away from the gass tank lid and help support it then i had to cut the rear shock tower to remove the peice that juts out for the pipe holder and then used the stable maxx rpm rims with the wide max offset same hex size as the tmaxx and savage and your choice of tires. This does not make the truck any wider but like I said earlier it does double the ground clearnce.
Dang... I wish I could have fun with my Menace. Some parts are backordered, so it might be a while. I'm calling tomorrow.

Hey vettman, are you still running stock gearing and if so do the new tires bog the motor down any? If you changed the gearing, please share how you did it.

Hey rock how is the truck and how does it compare to your 1/8 scale buggy???
I am buying a new Menace and was just curious to know how things are going
Does anybody know if there are aluminum arms for the truck yet or has anybody had any other problems with the truck I have heard that the gears are stripping out easily.

Monsterbrad:
I love my menace. The only problems I had was stripping out the 1st gear hub... but ONLY at the track. I have put another one on and tightned the outside nut much tighter... but still letting everything spin freely. I have yet to take it to the track again.
Compared to my buggy.... its quite different. On the tight sections of the track, I can zip in and out of corners probably faster with the menace. But once I start to gather some speed and naling bumps, dips, jumps and so.... the buggy is just unstopable.
At high speeds the menace cant absorb as good, and it takes much more control and skill to keep it straight.
It definetly gets around the track much faster than my GT.
Its a totally diferent driven style than the GT. Once you have it nailed its gone in the 1/10th class. We race all our 1/10 2wd GTs.... and second place is always right next to me. Very challenging.
When I race them with my menace I can almost lap them in a 7 lap race... I lap them twice with my buggy, and sometimes loose with my GT. I hope that gives you an idea.
Good luck!!!

Hey rock thanks for the quick answer.
I was also wondering how it handles just for play and can you give me an idea of how tippy or easy it is to roll it over on the street running it. I am surious cause I am selling my hyper 7 pro buggy with a brand new p-5 engine if you know anybody interested let me know I am asking $400.00 the buggy is very new built before winter and only broken in and runa few times.
But any how I read that you have the Ws7-2 engine in your buggy.I have heard that that is the engine to beat how does the Menace's power compare I know the engine is not what the Ws 7 2 is but we are talking three speed here.
thanks again for the quick answers

hey no problem...
ok... what I mean by a little unstable is this:
If im running our track at say normal 1/10 stadium truck speed like the GT.... Its just as stable as those, even more due to the 4 wheel drive.
It gets unstable under high speed ON THE TRACK. It gets going so fast that the travel and stability is done with. Any 1/10 under those speeds would be the same. Its not thats its an unstable car, on the contrary... ITS VERY STABLE. Its the speeds on rough terain.
Now... in the street... look out. I havent flipped it once. I can run as fast as I want as crank it and it just does a donut. Very stable. I was VERY impressed when I ran it on the streets. Everything I wished it was and some.
Compared to my MBX-5 with the WS7-II... I still have to drag race them.... Ill tell you this.. 0-50... Its hard to tell. And MY BUGGY GETS UP!!!! The extra horses hold it back for the extra weight. And the smaller motor on the menace gets helped by the less weight of the car... so they seem to balance eachother out.
After 50mph the menace is gone. No comparison down a 100 yard dash.
Im going to drag race them one of these days... ive wondered the same thing.
I also have a GT that I converted to 3 speed from the shumac and the Thunder Tiger motor..... Its really a peice of work.... I put the high speed pinion from the fusion on it.... so its faster than my menace.....
Got some pics if your interested!!!
I'm interested in seeing that GT! Sounds like a heck of a project, but way cool!

with 1/8 wheel adapters... INSANE speed... if the Menace can go 80mph with the stock bell gear... then this GT can go well over 80mph, I fit the tallest bell gear setup from the Fusion 21, two obove the Menace.... and then with these 1/8 wheels... i wanna guess it can hit close to 100mph.
The Menace comes with a smaller bell gear than the small stock one that comes with the Fusion.... and the Menace will do 80.... add the high speed bell gear from the Fusion (which wont even fit ive tried it) it would go about 90mph.... now add some 1/8 wheels!!!
Does anyone know how to do the math??? See what you come up with. I have the biggest bell gear Shumac makes for the Fusion on this car.
Oh and I would like to add that the motor blows by all three gears with no prob using this setup. Third gear kicks in nicely and goes fooorrr ever.

It drives VERY nice. Its extremely stable and balanced. It hits 3rd gear everytime and drives straight as an arrow. On the track its awsome to.... it jumps and handles like a GT... just feels a little heavier. But the power launches it were I want.

hey monster,
your going to love the menace. my only prob with drag racing these cars is finding the second driver to trust... i have one person in mind.
my gt and the menace will be very interesting. I want to think the menace will beat it off the line... from a dead stop... the gt has taller gearing, ands still spins the rear wheel in asfault... The menace with the 4x4 with the lower gearing hooks... But ive changed the tires on the gt so it hooks off the line... in fact it leaves like a dragster... front wheels slightly off the ground... if im not carefull it flips. Im thinking of adding a simple wheelie bar for drag raceing sake....
If I do like a 5mph rolling start, it will be very interesting. I think the gt will beat it on a long long straight... theres no reason why it shouldnt.
All this talking made me dial in my gt yesturday. Its ready to rumble. Ill see if I can drag race them all this weeknd.
Im taking:
MBX-5
MENACE
GT
FUSION
Ill see how I can do a process of elimination.... Dont worry... ill get it all on video!!!

Usually soft rear suspension means more rear traction and less steering. Considering the speeds you'll likely be attaining, that's what I'd do!

GREAT TRUCK NITRO!!!
Bet your drooling over it right now.
Ok... LONG day and I got some interesting results... ALL on video.
Ok.... The two cars I was able to get a fair battle with was the Menace vs. MBX5....
I warmed up the Menace (i drove it) and my buddy the MBX5.
We did about 15 different runs.
These cars are so fun to race.... ok... how can I put this.... OK OK...
Ill say the juicy part everyone wants to here. The MENACE WON!!!
For the first 25ft.... the quickest finger is ahead by maybe half or 1 car length.
I just carefully reveiwed the video again. And we got about 5 runs were we both NAILED the gas at the same time. DEAD EVEN everytime for about 25ft. My MBX5 is running AWSOME to.... SO is the menace. After about 25 feet... the Menace comes to life.... it quickshifts into 2 and it starts to pull and pull and pull....
The menace pulls the MBX5 before the MBX5 motor top out. If the MBX5 tops out at 45-50mph... then the menace starts to pull away at about 30mph. Once the MBX5 is topped out, the menace is pretty much long gone...
In about a 150 ft drag... the MBX5 is about 110 ft done and the menace is already at about 150 ft mark and climbing further away.
Very impressive. If we dragged them for 30-50 ft, it went either way... the MBX5 beat it a few times.... but this was due maybe to the faster triggle reflex. Again.. even start even race.... for a SHORT while.
Next was the MOD GT against the MENACE... but something went out in the tranny of the menace... grrrrrr.... I think it was the 1st gear hub again....
Two friends came by. One with a 2 speed .16 CEN, and another with a single speed 1/10 4x4 OFNA... on road cars... My buddies CEN couldnt get it to shift into 2nd. But the OFNA was ripping it to pieces from a dead stop anyways. I was pretty impressed, it ran really strong and quick. ..
So I decide to pull out the MBX5 (menace is in the shop at this point). My MBX5 beat it everytime. Off the line I would always jump him about 5 car lengths.... and top speed was identicle... a few runs we did while already rolling.... we would be dead even everytime for about 100 yards or so at top speed. But from a dead stop the MBX5 ate it. And the CEN... well it was cute. So from seeing these on road cars run... my menace will tear them up.
I went to my car to pull out the rocket... Fusion 21... but the battery was dead.
I ran the Fusion on some fast runs and have it on video.
My next races will be Menace vs. Fusion. Im sure the Fusion will win, but it will be inetersting.
Well we are all set up to race some more tomorrow.
In short, no one can touch or come close to my two Shumachers, not even me with my RB WS7-II MBX5. As long as you have these cars... you will be king of the hill. (well my MOD GT still has some proving to do)
Ok.. now I have the vid... bare with me while I decode it etc... Im new at this... But Ill get it out.
Questrion: Once I have it in my computer... How do I post it so you can download it or watch it?

sounds great nitro.... i need to install the speedo meter to. I have to say that the entire hype of the day to everyone their was the fusion. Its so fast and handles so good everyone lauphs... its hard to beleive when you see it in person it makes you lauph... lol....
I have some nice video of it as well.
I was out to dinner right now and all I could think of was the buggy and menace race. Its really something to watch. It really is a blast... REALLY load... It was such a close race that it really comes down to who pulls the trigger faster.. or gets the jump. In all fairness... if its a PERFECTLY even take off.... they are dead even for 25-30ft.... then the menace starts to take off. If the buggy gets a half a second jump... the menace AINT catching the buggy for about 120 ft.
What gets me is the dead even take off EVEN race ... Think about it... I almost have 3hp on the buggy, and its GONE off the line... the Menace rubbing tires right next to it..... You would think the buggy would at least be dead even with the menace untill it hit top speed.... this WS7-II really wakes up on its top end power band... but by the time its finishing mid range and the menace is all ready pulling ahead... WOW
It does it as soon as it changes to 2nd gear.... it changes gears like a funny car. In a conventional stick shift the buggy would have pulled the menace while it shifts gears... especially since its climbing the rpm's at a such incredible rate... well the menace changes gears and doest skip a beat (seems like it doesnt skip an rpm)... and man.....
ok... Im rambling... like a little kidd... real rush though.
It got late so I will check the menace in the morning. Ill try and get some vid by tomorrow night or Monday.
I am VERY interested to find out how that hyper motor works... The real test will be the gears changes... I know the drive train can hang... but hope you can nail the shifts.... GOOD LUCK....

Well let me tell you that my 1st gear hub is shreaded again. This is becoming VERY annoying now. It did not come loose as I had the nut on well. And you can clearly see how the hub just spun.. the pin is still in its groove with the plastic melted around it and stuck on the tranny.
Monsterbrad.. I think you are right. This is like the 4th or 5th hub ive been threw. This time is was just in the street, no jumps involved... AT ALL.
I think its putting to much stress on that plastic hub with the larger tires. The small pinion must put even more stress as the rpm's climb so fast. It shreaded off the line on one of the races... it made it about 5 ft and spun.
My MOD GT doesnt have this problem as its only 2wd... and I have the tall pinion on it. In fact I finished my MOD GT about 6 months before I even got my Shumac, and im running the same one still. Also have the XTR with no problem there.
Anyone else having this problem?
Adrian, I know you told me you would replace them all... thank you, but I need to find another solution. CAN YOU PLEASE push production or who ever you need to make one of a different material or something??? I am going to take the one out o my MOD GT and take it to be copied to aluminum. I dont know if this will solve it, it might create more problems, but im desperate. I live WAY to far to be busting these everytime I take it out.

OH... and the part of hub that melted... its fused to my tranny case... so now im splitting the case to try to take it off.
the rock
02-02-2004, 02:16 PM
Well I just spoke to Adrian from Shumac and he was very supportive and helpfull. I LUCKILY found my last hub... so tighten down the nut quite tighter.... there also must be NO brake drag when in neutral, when the car is on... the car should not move... with no brake drag.
I will try his and post my results.
the rock
02-02-2004, 07:50 PM
ok...
I did just that. At idle... the car doent move forward.. and the brake is not engaded at all... I turned the idle down to get it to sit still while in neutral with the car on. I tightned the outside nut pretty hard also.
I ran the truck for a little less than half tank... stop and goes. Ran perfect!!! No problems. Once I run for a full tank with no problem I will be convinced its fixed.
Adrian and Troy from Shumac explainded that if you have brake drag for stopping it from creeping forward that means the clutch is engaded constantly therefore heating up the hub to much and not ever letting it cool down. Therefore melting it as I keep doin g. Makes sence. The instructions tell you to leave a 1mm gap on the brake lever at neutral. But they dont explain why (i guess they dont have to explain "why" on everything). Im used to leaveing a little drag on my brakes on single gear cars.
Well I better go re-adjust my fusion and mod gt as well.
Another detail I just found out is that the Fusion and Menace use differenent rated springs in the gears. The Menace is designed for the tires it has ect.... so where im getting with this is that I have the Fusion springs in my mod gt. So im ordering another set of Menace springs, will put them on the mod gt and then do a battle with them two. The car to beat is the menace!!!
nitrohead5300
02-02-2004, 09:24 PM
Hey, Rock!! Are you a saying what I think you are saying about the springs? Are the springs on the menace stronger than the ones on the fusion? I hope so because if they are that might make the tranny shift right with my 8-port.
the rock
02-02-2004, 09:59 PM
nitro...
you know I thought of that question as soon as I hung up the phone.. called them back but it was to late.
Well he did tell me that the menace springs are designed for the truck to stay in 2nd gear longer, so when you are on the track it will stay in second. You dont need third on a track. But in the street he says it will hit 3rd in around 50ft or so.... soooo.... whats this mean??? I dont know. Ill call him tomorrow. But I want to think the YES the menace springs are stiffer. If it takes longer to shift they must be stiffer.
AND AND the XTR springs are also different. So there are 3 variations. He said the XTR was designed to be a wheelie machine.... That thing pops wheelies at any speed... soooo maybe the XTR has the stiffest as it will let the rpm's climb QUITE high and is mostly in the powerband to jerk it into a wheelie. So the XTR's might be the stiffest..... hmmmmm
Ill call him tomorrow. But yes you might have your answer with one of these springs.
the rock
02-02-2004, 10:08 PM
or you might need a combination of two different cars. It got me thinking... and maybe the menace 2nd gear spring is quite soft to allow it to shift to second quick as 1st is to low for tracks, and then the 3rd gear spring is the stiff one so it stays in second longer. Maybe the XTR 2nd gear spring with the Menace 3rd gear spring or something!!!
Something to sleep on ;)

but sir.. you have not stripped any gears.. so i was wondering how it was set.. i can do the feel trick. been into rc long enough... its just i went and felt this, and being a odd design with the 3 speed and all. i just wanted to make sure on its tightness so ill loosen it up some.. cause the way it is rght now worries me.. but the radio is installed.. hump pack is now charging.. i dislike having to remove screws to change batts so even did the charge switch and harness on it..
next.. anyone feel the plastic in this thing is kinda "trashy" like the screws for the radio box feel like poop taking them in and out? like it lacks nylon but has alot of glass in it? so will be brittle...

yes loosen it up some, adjust it as you do your other cars.
I went out and bought the handle allen set... makes life MUCH easier.
as for the plastics... its not as flexible as say rpm, and is harder and more brittle...
I have driven my menace a lot ion tracks and competing.... and I THINK ive only gone threw one arm.... and that was after rolling at a very high speed. The plastics are MUCH stronger than they seem.

What cruise line will you be traveling on? We are located at the "Puerta Maya" pier.
To get around the entire "paved" part of the island I think is about 40 miles... the entire island must be about 80-100 miles round.

We're coming in on Holland-America. Do you expect to be at the pier on Monday? I think we'll be docking at around 6:30am and departing around 2:30pm, and we'll be doing the 6.5-hour ruins tour during most of that time.
It'd be cool to meet you if it works out!

hey Doesgo....
Ya Tulum is were the motherships are. You will see some nice pyramids.
hmmmm... What ship from Holland-America will you be on? They doc on all three piers here. I can look at our schedule and tell you if you will doc on our pier.
Usually what they do with the tours... is they will have you wait right outside the ship, pick you up in a ferry... and take you across the water to the mainland to Tulum... and bring you back right on time for your departure.
Well Im really in and out of the office.... but what we can do is you can go the store... and tell my staff your there, and they will call me and I can be there in 5 minutes.... Its really simple to find.
Its a calling internet cafe. Ill give you some free phone calls and internet on the house ;)
Lets figure out if youll be on this pier so we can set something up. It would be great to meet you!!!

Awesome! Can't wait to see the sights.
We'll be on the ms Zaandam. Let me know what you find out!
Hopefully we'll have enough spare time before or after the tour to stop by your business, meet you, and maybe take you up on your generous offer! Coincidentally, I will need to make a rather important phone call on Monday afternoon, so hopefully we can work out a meeting.
I know B!!! and I both are looking forward to possibly meeting a fellow basher in another country! He and I both have RC10GTs and he's got a Menace, so we're fascinated by your 3-speed GT!

Cool that would be nice. Ok... the Zaandam used to doc at our pier. It docs next door now... :(
Lets see how we can work something out on your schedule. I can give you my cell phone and tell you how to dial locally.
Either way if you want with your ship ID our pier security will let you in our pier. And you can come to my office. Or I can meet you somewhere else... lets see how your doing with time. That would be cool to meet you and B!!!
I just made some cool video of my MOD GT.... Im going to order the XTR tranny springs to make it shift better. It seems to be getting stuck in 2nd right now.... Hey.. How do I post video? Any idea?

hey doesgo...
not sure when you leave but lets see if you can swing even a little time to meet... I can go to your pier and just say hello...
looking forward in meeting you bashers... if we dont have the luck.. have a safe trip... and when you doc in Cozumel... just think that there are bashing enthusiest where ever you go ;) oh... and that you are probably on the land of maybe the only 3-speed GT in the world

That's too bad the Zaandam doesn't dock at your pier anymore, but hopefully we can work it out anyway. I'm not sure if our excursion will take off right when we dock or not, but I hope so. That should give us a little time before the ship departs to find you.
Doesn't matter if we meet you on your pier or the one we dock at, but like I said I will need to use a telephone to call the U.S. on Monday, so it's either from the ship or from your place of business. Might as well be at your place of business!
Will our ship IDs automatically get us past pier security or is that something you or I need to arrange? If it's a hassle to do that but you can get to our pier, that'd be fine as well.
Any chance you could bring your GT with you to work on Monday so B!!! and I could check out your priceless work of art? :D We both love RC10GTs and are fascinated by big-block speed (and B!!! has a Menace 21, too), so we'd love to see it in person if possible.
Yep, there are bashers all over the world, it's pretty cool! When looking at the logs for the slapmafro.com site we get his from countries I've never even heard of! It's pretty amazing. And when I saw you lived in Cozumel....quite a coincidence that a couple bashers from the northern U.S. would be coming down to visit!

has any one had a problem with the stering linkage hitting the throtle linkage? If not then I am the first.
Well I have now taken off the tmaxx tires as it made the final drive ratio way to high. It wouldn't even alow it to shift into second and the rotating mass of the bigger tires did not alow the break to work properly either. All in all it was fun trying, but a big waste of time!!!

Well i got my menace and my savage 25.... Broke in the savage but have not gotten to the Menace yet. I do have to admit that there are things about the Menace that look kinda cheap but I bought it for parking lot high speed running pretty much the Savage is for pounding. Hey rock thanks for the video they all looked awesome you are right the Menace does fly beats up on the ws7-2 nicely but what do ya expect for a three speed tranny to. Oh yes I noticed to mentioning something about the fusion I don't know what you are talking about I have never had one but I have heard they are cool also and fast. I know a guy that has one that does 80mph or so.Oh yeah what went on with the tranny to is schumacher making an up grade on top of the no brake drag throttle linkage set up.
Well thats about all for now I have to mention the savage even though this is not the forum for that. IT IS AWESOME jumps great over my head on the snow pile infront of my house.

well i went to do my tuning inside the huge parking deck i get to "control" on the weekends.. big mistake.. even with over 800ft straight aways i had to get off it before i got to 3rd.. and what else did i learn.. those cali poliece chase movies up hills the menace dislikes..
http://members.aol.com/sxuldveight/rc/feb_04/menbody/a.jpg
when comming off the up ramp to a flat the front tires lift.. and it just flips onto its back and slides a good 300ft.. but it was neet as hell to have it spin thru 1st into 2nd still spinning all 4 on rough concrete with street tires. :D ill have to go use a big parking lot or flat snow covered area to finish tune in.. i need to do some WOT time to set the HSN to perfection.. but so far at 200f on the temps.. im scared to see what 250 would be like..
wonder how much metal i have to take off the head to get it to be pretty again.. but not to worry.. dremal in hand will mak eit polished when done..

hey CR how do ya like the truck so far you seem pretty happy!!
I am going to wait till the spring cause the new savage is a great snow machine. The head looks nice all scratched up but hey its all in fun.Did you see the rocks video of the mbx-5 and Menace going at it that was awesome.
Hey rock ???
What gearing are you running in the mbx???
I think you should try a larger clutch bell on the buggy and go for another high speed race Menace-vs- MBx-5.
That might even things up a bit.
