I suspect my track is approx 1/6 acre and it is in mostly sunny area near the back of my lot. when I moved to waukesha, **. , i took the new holland and gauged out a place to race the trucks around. I think it turned out great. anyway, it gets dusty and thus traction can be tricky. I water the track the morning, during days that me and the guys race and that makes it work great, but it also feeds the little bits of grass and weeds that seem to grow around here...if i turn my back for a day or two it gets outta hand.
now, i can sit out there and pull weeds until my hair falls out, i can walk around with my 2 gallon sprayer filled with killz-it-all till my shoes are soaked, but i can only seem to gain the upper hand for a week or so at a time.
aside from buying a giant sprayer and dragging it around with the tractor, what can i do?
can somone suggest a attachment for the hose that would dispurse some weed killer while im watering? like an "in-line" type i could fill with concentrate and then attach it to my sprinkler?
or better yet, If you track owners have some awesome weed control measures in place, what did you have success with? and dont say "smoking the weed works for me" either... I've heard that one already:)
thanks for your consideration in this matter.

hi treepete i am glad to hear i am not the only one fighting this battle!! yes i do the round up thing and it sucks but the other thing i have been doing and it seems to work o.k. is i took a pallet and on one side i machine gunned 3" nails through 4 - 2"x4"s and nailed them to one side of the pallet. then i hook it to the back of my 4 wheeler and i drag the track several times around, and then i flip the pallet over (nails up) and i make a few more laps to smooth it back out. sometimes when it gets really bad i even throw a couple of concrete blocks on top of the pallet to really tear it up. some of my jumps are pretty big and it still works great and i have found on my track that dragging it in the opposite direction works best. if you would like to checkout some pics of my track go to http://www.******.net/member/myhobbyfarm88 good luck with your track!!!! take care mike

yeah, I have this drag thing i made as well. it works great, its a busted piece of cyclone fence i drag behind the tractor with two old 12" stepping stones for weight,. Man, your track looks great. I found that the hard, compacted ground dosent grow as many weeds as the loose dirt does. i wish i could get more people to talk about this and i appriciate your reply. do you get a lot of rain in your area? I dont see a damn weed in sight on your track. it looks great thanks for responding. those are great pictures. crap your track is massive. lemme guess, all your hardcore rc friends came over alot at first, but as time wore on they stopped coming as much cuz you live so damn far away. thats what happened to me. no buds to help me pull weeds. heh :) thanks bro.

my track is mainly sand and believe me, you can't see it in the pics, but the weeds are there!! and my worst enemy of all is stickers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes we get a fair amount of rain up here in minnesota and come august the stickers start to bloom. especially areas that i have just tore up with the bobcat, they just go nuts unless i put down a layer of black dirt and seed the **** out of it and then water like crazy. black dirt is about $125.00 bucks a load and after 5 loads so far i can't afford any more for awhile! i had a few buddies that started my track with me and they more or less bailed on me, so i decided to go public with mine and so far it has been going pretty good. i am trying to get ready for my first big race weekend, what started out as lets get some people out here and have a race, has turned into a full blown two day event with camping, a food stand, a friend coming down with his awesome amb lap counting system with transponders and computer printouts of every thing! i wasn't really quite ready for this yet, but what the hell if your going to do it... go all the way!!! heres a link to my website www.fiskhobbyfarm.com check it out and let me know what you think! wish me luck! mike

I tilled mine to begin with and then spot check the weeds with round up. Occasionally I drag the raking attachement with the lawn tractor, though I really need to make my own attachment that is more suited to the task. The weeds don't get too bad on mine lest it rains alot and I'm not out driving. Given that I'm the only user on my track, I really don't get enough time on it to keep the weeds down that way.

If you build the track on an existing lawn or pasture you need to remove the sod, that will get you a big head start in weed control as you will have virgin dirt instead of tilling & leaving alot of plant material on the track surface. The sod you peel up can be used as foundations for jumps & berms. I chose a spot to dig up fresh soil for the racing surface & just keep digging away at that area for clean dirt. I like Tri-Ox for actual weed/plant control, running on the track regularly helps too.
Hobby farm, thats a nice looking track.
