Hard to go wrong at that price.

They must be making room for the pro 2 that's coming out. Any ideas how much that will sell for??

I thiink the new Lightning is supposed to list for $60 more than the regular. I'd guess it would be less than that on street price. No engine though, from what I understand.

I just bought a LP from the RCBOYZ on eBay for the same $289.99 but cheaper shipping of only $15.00! I can't wait! My neighbor is buying one of my LRR's for $185.00, $122.00 ain't bad for a new Pro! TT

Had fun at the track last tuesday night.

And the only thing I broke was the weak stock Hot bodies rims. Broke the centers out of 3 of them. :p

Double Ouch!
Raced this evening, sheared a wing mount post off again for the 2nd time. Otherwise, qualified for the B Main in 2nd, finished in 2nd, with wing flapping around in the back.

Hehe... cool. Sounds like its time for the screw down type wing mounts.

I made my stock wing mounts screw down type after the first pegs snapped off. Used 2 self tapping screws and a pair of countersunk washers that fit inside the holes in the wing. Haven't had a broken wing since.

I am trying to decide what to do on the wing. I will probably try the screw in method using my existing mounts. Thanks for the ideas guys!
Also, another question... anyone know the difference between the RR shocks and the "Racing/Deluxe" shocks? I bent a shock rod last night, bent it back by hand in order to finish out the night and was wondering if I should just replace the rod or go with stouter shocks.

The Pro shocks have the purple aluminum caps and hardened shafts.

Thanks CBR, Guess I'll try to get the Pro shocks and use the RR's as spares.

Back from my trip to the hobby shop! :)
Ordered the Pro front shocks and another set of standard suspension holders (broke the front this last weekend, but don't want to spring $45 for the aluminum version just yet, Christmas and all).
Also picked up a wing mount kit for Mugen MBX4. I just used the actual mounting pieces for the wing itself (not the arms that mount to the shock tower), and it fits without any modification. The screw holes were off by about 1/16 or less, but it seems to mount pretty solid. I'll give that a try for the next race and see how they hold up. I haven't messed with the angle of the wing yet... doesn't make too much of a difference to me yet :)

Hey guys,
Just scored my very fist Nitro buggy. Its the Carson King of dirt, a.k.a. HB Lightning.
I got it for $165, without engine though. Someone advised me the Force 15 motor, that is often used in Carson cars. Another tole me to get an OS RG-X.
Can anyone tell me what to look for in an engine? Just the main important things, so that i can look around a bit ;)

Stock engine is a .21, same thing as the Force .21 or the old HPI Savage Nitro Star .21
I replaced my stock motor with an Ofna Hyper.21 Race. Carb was terrible though, so I replaced the carb. since then, it's very good, wicked fast and affordable. I've always liked OS engines as well.

I understand that the 2.1 is a perfect engine to start with.
I just got an offer, it's the Force .21 (3,5cc) engine, seen here:

Can get it for $80 if i want to :) And i do :P

Is it new or used? Does it include the flywheel, clutch, and clkutchbell?
Thadeez

It has been used only for 2 weeks. The guy who's selling it, only prepared the engine, and had it as a spare.
It includes the flywheel, clutch, and clutchbell :)

Not a bad deal then.. do you have a header and pipe to go with it?
Thadeez
12-24-2003, 05:10 PM
No pipe yet..
What is a header? Sorry to say i don't know what that is.. The good part is, i only have to ask those questions once ;)
Edit: ahhhh RC glossary :D

Also known as a manifold.

Thanks! but no, i don't have one yet. Still need a good airfilter, and header with pipe..

Trip to hobby store time then, huh?
I highly recommend getting a 1-piece pipe. That's one where the header and pipe are secured to each other with springs.
Looks like this:

As soon as the car comes in, and i can oversee what i need to make it all complete, i will post some pics. I saw there are different types of manifolds, and pipes. So i need a good fitting manifold and pipe for the engine. I presume i can't just take any pipe.

Happy Holidays to all! Where did you pre-order the Pro2 from? Will there be a upgrade kit or something with the Pro1? Thanks in advance:)

Through my LHS. They don't have a price or part number yet, but Brandon tries about four different distributors for me every Monday.

Yup, just found it listed on Horizon's website. I'd seen the number before, but was hesitant to quote it. Looks like it's only $50 more than the L1, so I should be able to get it from my LHS soon for about $339.95. w00t!

Thanks for the info. The new buggy looks great, but I think it is starting to look like the Hyper now. The big parts of interest for me are the 22 degrees carriers and the new wing mount. I would like to see a carbon fiber radio tray. I wish we were racing. The LHS is not even sure about our track being up in time.

I think the L1 C-hubs look stronger. I'm gonna stick with what I have for now. Cancelling my order.

12-28-2003, 04:35 PM
I see what you mean. I don't like the way the upper front arm connects to the top of the c-hub. I would get worried about it popping off at some time. On the H7, the upper arm is connected the way it is on the L1. I need some advice on a radio upgrade, should I go for the Futaba 2PL or the Airtronics MX-3? Thanks in advance :)

2PL is AM but has ABS
MX-3 is FM
Personally... I'd rather have the FM radio. Plus... the 2PL is just plain bland... no style at all.

Plus on the 2PL's my LHS has in stock, the battery doors would not latch. They would slide off while using it. Poor quality control. TT

? Where can I find a piston/sleeve for my .26 big block,(HB) or Is there a subistiute piston/sleeve that I can use in this motor and get the same or better results..
Thanks...
Jeff Cain

Or I'll sell ya one of my JR XR3's for $75. I don't think I have any of the servos, but you don't want stock servos in an 1/8th scale anyway.

Is that a Force .26? Like this?

If so, Ofna sells it too.

yes it's just like that 1,so do u think that piston/sleeve will fit,I have a few 21's laying around but no big block's and some sleeves are exactly the same, the only difference is that little set pin below the lip in the block that holds the sleeve in place..
The block reads hotbodies 3.5

Do you guys know what some good shocks are for the Lightning? What oils do you guys run?
cbr74
12-29-2003, 02:07 AM
Pro or RTR? The Pro shocks are excellent, if you have the RTR, upgrade to the Pro shocks.
Trying to remember what oil I'm using... AE 40 wt. I think.
tpeep
12-29-2003, 02:30 AM
Are the pro shocks threaded? If they are I have the rtr version. Do you happen to know where I could get those pro shocks.
Do you run 40 in the front and 37.5 in the rear?
cbr74
12-29-2003, 02:39 AM
No. The Pro shocks have purple caps and hardened shock shafts but they aren't threaded bodies.
Ricky's R/C would prolly be the best bet. (909) 296-9968
You want part #'s C8104-1 and C8105-1.
I honestly can't recall what oil mine have in them... one of the racer guys will hopefully jump in here with some insight.
