Hi all.
Does any one out there know how to build a base loaded antenna, or know of any web sights with instructions on this? I,m looking to rid my planes of the spaghetti that hangs off them. Any help and info would be much appreciated.

just take a piece of 1/8th stick and wrap your antenna around it leaving a 3/16th gap between each wrap. Tape at the beginning and end. Stick lengthwise in your fusalage and your off to the races!!!!

Can you tell me what a base loaded antenna is? I don't know what that refers to, but I would like to get rid of the long trailing wire too. Do you get reception that is as good as the trailing wire? Thanks.

Hi,
a base-loaded antenna is one that has an inductance at the base, means: near the receiver. That raises the impedance of the antenna, and the antenna seems to be electrically longer than it acually is. So you can fit a given length of antenna better to the electrical fields that you want to receive. But beware: you can not cheat mother nature very much. You will not get as much safe distance as with a longer antenna. But in our micro RC world we need not as much distance as for thermal soaring, for instance. So base-loading the antenna is surely worth a try, and is surely better than just shortening the wire.

Thanks guys for the responses
is there a specific length antenna section that must be used with a specific inductive coil resistance to recieve 72mghz?
Does there need to be a capacitor in there somewhere to bleed off higher frequencies from polluting the signal to the reciever?
I can handle the theory and construction with little problem, but the calculations escape me. Again any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Take a look at this web page. A Deans Antenna substitute.

It was designed for helicopter, but it should work.
