Welcome everyone to the Seventh Best Paint Competition!!
The best paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at 12:00 AM August 15 at midnight.
Restrictions: None
In the following two weeks (August 16 to August 30) we will hold the Seventh Street/Race Competition.
Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!
The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action or R/C Nitro!!
RULES for Best Paint:
1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (August restrictions: None)
7) Only 2 entrees per person. 8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used
Masks used (hand or precut)
Inspiration (could be another paint job).
And of course, a body.
This month integra d12 will be judging the Best paint competition.
Each body will be judged by the following criteria (1-bad, 10-excellent):
Difficulty (score 1-10)
Over all design (score 1-10)
Execution (score 1-10)
The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body.
Each month we will place some restriction on all entrees.
September restrictions:
Best Paint- Tribal theme (flames, shapes, trees, tiki gods, whatever tribal is to you.)
Street/Race- Street dreams (your dream street racer/cruiser).
GOOD LUCK

Calvin your work never ceases to amaze me.. You my friend have a talent for seeing beauty in simplicity..
I always was a less is more fan.. And your cars look so elegant.. It proves that one doesnt have to have 40 colors or some nutty paint scheme to make a bad a$$ ride....
Sorry had to speak my mind which I dont do often..

calvin3, TA03 Drive Hard, puma1824, and Alpha8A: All of your bodies look great, but i think they would fit better in the Best Street/Race competition. Let me know if you would like to withdraw from this competition and enter the body later this month in the Best street/race competition. If I dont hear anything then I will assume you want to stay in this competition.

The mask I used was terrible! My LHS was out of all the brands for Lexan, so I tried this stuff. It's for maskinf trains and such. When dry, it resembles saran wrap. It's not sticky like it needs to be. When I shot the airbrush, the mask would lift and bubble up; and it would tear into pieces too easily. It made this body very frustrating to paint. The rear checkers were originally gonna be ghost checkers, but when I sprayed the faschange the first time, it spattered, so I was forced to use a heavy coat. Oh, well...I still like it.

Thanks guys for getting back to me so quickly. :)
Calvin: The way the judging is, the complexity of the design is never considered. It is based on the execution (actually harder with a complex race scheme), detail (any car can have an interior and mirrors), and over all design (is it visually appealing?). IMO your mini is extremely well executed, the colors are great, all it is missing is extensive detail. You will also notice that all entrees in September must be street cars, no race cars.
Sparx: Im sorry but you may only enter one competition with each body. Can you please let me know if you want yours entered in the best paint or the Jr best paint. Thanks.

Hi all.
This is my first post so try to be nice :)
This is a shell I recently painted, its not my best ever but im pretty proud of it.
The body is a protoform stratus mk1
Masks are all done using frisket film (not the real stuff cheap stuff from a local signwriter) cut on the body using a scalpel.
Paint is testors/pactra enamel and a few canned paints made by custom colour.
Airbrush used is a badger 360 on a generic compressor)

I think i know why Integra disapeared. Its impossible to pick a winner out of these bodies!! But i sat down for a long time, pouring over each one until i have finally (FINALLY!!) picked a winner. I have added comments on allof these. Please take them as encouragement and hints and not insults.
Sparx - 14. Great scheme for racing, but the complexity to win a competition is lacking.
Dyslexic - 14.5. Looks good, work on filling more of the body with your design.
Dirtkite - 17. Interesting combination of designs. Again work on filling a little more of the body with the design. Try putting the loopy things on the hood and sides instead of off to the bottom.
Kmac - 19. Perfect execution, but the colors are to dark to make the design really stand out.
Leadfoot - 20. Great classic offroad scheme. Things look a little cramped, try making the scallups a little bigger.
Pumkinfish - 21.5. Great job with one of the hardest schemes to pull off. You got lots of points for difficulty, and if it wasnt for some very stiff competition you would have been in the top 3.
PureTmaxx - 22. Very clean execution and classy design. Not much i can complain about.
The King (Crowd pleazer) - 22.5. Amazing work, it is a little to busy and it appears like you rushed the black shading.
And the top three are.... (please note that all three of them earned a victory, but i had to start splitting hairs to crown a winner)
Third X-garage (both bodies) - 24.5.
Both of these bodies scored a 24.5, but with different break downs. The design on the viper is a little more flowing, but the execution on the porsche is a little better. Basically it came down to the fact that the other two had lots of pinstriping and pinstriping is hard to do.
Second Holst - 25. Great job, the design flows well, the colors look great and the simitry is great. Your pinstripes were your ticket to the top and your downfall at the same time. They look great, but under very close scrutiny they are not even in a few places so.....
First The king (Porsche) - 26. Talk about a lot of flames!! The contours look great, the marble is amazing, the shading would make charlie jealous, there is only one thing i can say...
You squeezed by some very close competition to truly earn the title of THE KING (for one month :D).
Congrats to everyone who entered! Im going to go pass out of squinting at the screen for to long.

WOW, thanks allot.
Congrats The King definately a worthy winner.
I think X-Gargage deserved to beat me, although Im allways very crytical of my own work, I notice every slight flaw..
I know my pinstrpies were a bit uneven, I think that body was done over a weekend when It was one of seven, so it was a bit rushed.
Im allready working on a design for the new competition, this time ill do it as a "propper" exhibition job.
