that many huh?
You have to give people more than 51 minutes to respond!
I have one. It is running NRS4-2 suspension arms all around (200mm) because I was setting it up for a New Beetle Cup series that never happened at a not-so-local LHS.

sorry, this thread is like a little 5 year old with a new toy.... really impatient!!! lol
glad to see someone else is running them, i got mine off of ebay, so they (all three) are set up about the same, except one is missing the upper deck, you wouldn't happen to have one, would you?

Towerhobbies has them for cheap. Atleast I think its cheap, under $20. And its graphite.
I run one too (sport), I am in the process (hopefully) of totally decking it out. Sure, call me crazy since I can go get a Factory Team TC3 for the same cost, or cheaper. But I am stubborn. And want my old baby to kick ass. haha.
Then when thats done, BRUSHLESS! RARR.
Right now I am using a 14-Turn Speed Gems 2 Mod and 106/35 gearing and its great. Dosen't overheat. And its insane fast. (atleast to me 40mph electric is nice)

throw a trinity 11 turn speed gems pro 2 on there.... final drive of about 7.4ish..... watch it then:D

I might, now that I got a nasty ESC (God bless the old school cyclone). Since I am making my car a skyline... I need to faithfully make it just retardedly fast.
Anyone by chance, if you read this, know what it would take to make Midnight Purple? Supposedly it was a rare color for R34 Skylines. (Apparently ~500 cars).
Closest I come is grape pearl backed with black. (based of pictures). This purple is stunning on the real car. Its almost black but at certain angles where light hits its a DEEP purple.

Its A565 which, oddly enough, isn't there... thats crazy, but then again our cars are old.
But. Dunnnahhh! Here to save the day is BuyHPI http://www.hpiracing.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=A565
Bam, $19. But, I can't find a buy or add to basket button? What gives?

hmmmm..... 1:24 am sunday morning my time.... think HPI is open?!
:)
also, just out of curiosity, i know this is even older than our cars, but i have an ancient, classic, vintage, original novak tempest TX-1, and its great, but when you slam the trigger, i get a glitch that is consitent with the steering, and it turns it all the way to the left, and then back centered, if its already moving, it doesnt do it, i have tried a schtocky diode (whatever), and capacitors.... anybody else got anything?

Check your soldering, sometimes that messes things up. (Radio noise). Bad brushes, etc. Since its at the beginning of the motor start, it leads me to believe its the motor, then once its moving the amps aren't so high.
Reciever crystal might be going out too.

well i said screw it on the old novak ESC, and in went a dually along with a 10 turn single (courtesy of mindblown modifieds), and it hauls *****! if anyone has any hop up suggestions, let me know.

Bearings, belt tensioner, x-pattern tires (for asphalt), FM Radio (Futaba 3PDF kicks ass). Among others.
You should have most of these if its a pro, but worth mentioning.

got bearings, got belt tensioner, my track favorite is take-off 27's and 33's, so i run those, and im already running a JR XR3i FM radio.... so i think im pretty well covered. and i just got RPM ball joints today.

Where did you find a sealed RS4 Pro kit? I would really like to get one! I also want a sealed RS4 Pro2 kit. I think both of these kits can run with the best new cars out now.

There's a hobby shop near my job that I go to sometimes during my lunchbreak. I went in yesterday and there was a brand new RS4 Pro on the shelf beneath a couple of Sprints and a Dash. I was on it like a hawk, and as I was checking out I asked the guy behind the corner where it came from; had they found it behind a shelf in the storeroom or something. It had been the clerk's car. He was an older man and he said that he bought it back when it first came out and never got around to putting it together and was tired of it just sitting around his house. I paid for it, thanked him, and ran out of the store.
Now I've got the original Pro to sit next to my Pro 2 and Pro 3...

I have whats left of a pro laying around. I used it as a parts car when the pro2 came out. Alot of the parts were interchangable.
Megatron
09-21-2003, 07:51 PM
Yeah, a whole lot. Several HPI cars use alot of the same parts. The Pro, The Pro 2, The Sport, The Sport 2, The Rally, and the RS4 MT...
It goes a lot deeper than that.
The entire rear section of the Pro (rear bulkheads, motor plate, opposing plate, and shaft setup) were used on the Sport, Sport2, Pro, Pro2, eRally, and the Super RS4. The front and rear bulkheads were used on the Sport, Sport2, Pro, Pro2, eRally, EMT (only used the rears), NRS4 and its variants (except the NRS4-3), SNRS4, and all of the Mini's. The Pro shared its suspension with the Sport, eRally, NRS4, and NRS4 Racer, the suspension arms capable of supporting both 185mm and 200mm widths. There are other similarities between the cars but I'm too tired to think of them right now.

hey guys, figured i'd make the offer here first, i have an extra complete roller for sale if anyone is intrested.... basically stock with a few goodies, asking 50 w/ some tires.... cant send until the 26th (when i get my new toy), so keep in in mind, i can include ESC, batteries, servo, radio, basically, if you want it, i can make it RTR, but i figure if you are actually looking for a PRO, you already have your stuff.
figured id offer here before anywhere else.

rallysteve ...i tried to find my old notes but no luck. from memory i'll try to recall my old set-up.
stock pistons all around
80 wt oil front w/ hpi purple springs (tc3 white)
60 wt rear w/ hpi blue springs (tc3 purple)
lowest degree castor blocks you can find.(i ran a reactive castor set-up on mine)
top of rear shocks in middle holes
top of front shocks in outer most hole
andy's stratus body
2 degree rear hubs
trinity white compound foams - but something in a 45 to 42 shore front and 41 to 38 shore rear will do
(trinity plaids up front & purples in the rear)
(ouch!!!) my head hurts......too much thinking.:)
this is what i settled in as my "fav" set-up. i also used a one-way front pulley.
happy racin'

RallySteve
10-10-2003, 12:47 AM
I usually race at A-main in Vancouver Washington, but they don't have winter on-road... so I go to RC Plus in Salem Oregon. Only indoor carpet place within about 5 hour drive (as far as I know).
I've been out of the hobby for the last couple years so I'm feeling quite noob-ish again. ;)
Where abouts do you race at?
nomac
10-10-2003, 06:01 PM
my current touring track is The RC Speedway in durham north carolina. (home of the 2003 roar on-road nats) (yay!).
the outdoor season is coming to a close so i may be heading over to the track in goldsboro, nc. (about a 2 1/2 hr trip)
don't feel noobish, i haven't raced since the nats...so i need to catch up with the new crop of batteries and chassis's.
RallySteve
10-13-2003, 01:04 PM
Hey nomac... were the springs you used in that setup progressives? I figured the purple ones were, but I know HPI made blue springs in a couple different versions... pro linears, progressives, etc...
Anything else you can remember would be great! I'll be giving the setup a try tomorrow night.
Thanks
nomac
10-13-2003, 07:24 PM
hey steve... yes the springs are the progressive ones. i also remember not using the standard c-hub set-up.....but i used the double wishbone style found on the traxxas 4-Tec.
if i'm not mistaken, the electric 4 tec and the pro3 have the exact same suspension geometry front to rear. so using the entire front end from the 4 tec should yeild the same width and wheelbase as stock. but mind you....this has been over 6 years.
RallySteve
10-14-2003, 01:02 AM
I remember hearing something about that... the Traxxas compatibility thing. Don't think I'll go that route tho. ;)

Getting back into rc after a 4+ yr break, want to run my old
but taken care of RS4 Pro but noticed the main grafite chassis
looks pretty worn down (thin) in some spots. Does any one know
what other chassis will fit. i noticed a new original one is like $50
at tower. a bit too much $ and just want to keep my options
open.
also i was gonna build up a new battery back and considered
making it saddle style since the grafite chasis i have now
suppports it. i've only used sideXside or stick packs but I wanted
to know what u use to hold down a saddle pack on this chassis?
Thanks for any info....

Well this thread has been dead since January, but heres a shot. I've searched all over the net trying to find out how I should gear an RS4 Pro. It has a 123T 64P spur, but no pinion. Can anyone give me a good baseline 64 pitch pinion to start with for gearing a high torque stock motor (Trinity P2K2)? I looked on HPI's website and found a gear ratio chart but it doesn't say what ratio is good for what type of motor. Plus it only has ratios for 122T 64P spurs. I read on another site that somewhere between 6.1-6.8 is good for a stock motor. Does that sound right? I just dont want to go buy a bunch of pinions if they won't give me a ratio anywhere near where I need to be. Thanks for any help.

08-23-2004, 03:02 AM
Well what combo do you recommend in 48P for a stock motor? I might just swtich it over if you know a ratio that should work well. 48P is easier to find around here anyway. Thanks

i use 24 or 26/97 or 90

hey..... i got the hpi pro off ebay around the middle of the summer. I love it! :D It doesnt drive its age. I run a 16t, 2400 saddle pack, a good futaba servo( it awesome, but its old school) and a novak speed control..its also old school. Its also got a way old futaba controller from the early 90's. This is just my "chase the cars down the street" car..lol. But it is awesome. :D

In my HPI sport (yes I know it's old too) i run a Return of the monster with 48 pitch @ 24/93t. I might go with a 23/93t or 23/96t combo.
I've been real lucky in the fact that I've raced it 5 times (new to sedans) and have won 4 and got second last weekend. I hit a pipe and got flipped over and finnished on the rear of first place.

well, my rs4 has made another makeover! I dont really like tuners, but ive made my car a drifter. Its so much fun and another way to push my driving talent. Right now im running a duratrax sprint esc, photon 20t motor, 2400 saddle pack, older futaba servo, and a hitec aggressor FM radio/reciever. All im using is a low gear ratio and some electrical tape on the tires.

I'm getting a nitro RS4 in the mail, and getting the electric chassis and motor mount to make a brushless miata. As I am in I-crack I have a friend painting an exact replica of my 1:1 miata, droptop look and all. I'm here to ask if the belt layout is the same, if not where can i get the other parts needed for the conversion. The guy i bought the nitro from said that the only difference is the chassis and motor mount, but after looking it doesn't exactly seem to be so. Somebody help me. I'll post pics as the build goes along, and finishes. Also if anyone belongs to Ultimaterc I'll probably get them up over there first as that's where I'm getting all the parts from, and already have a thread started for it. Take care.
