Hey, I'm interested in getting into the nitro scene with a truck that would work well as a rock crawler, or whatever other crazy stuff I try to drive over.
Forgot to mention, I've been looking at the Terra Crusher or the T-Maxx, but I'm open to suggestions

Tamiya TXT-1 w/ custom Nitro Chassis or RC Jack's Pie Wagon. :)

Umm...I dont have tons of cash to convert things to nitro, but that would be cool. I'm looking at the Terra crusher because I can get it for 320$ new.

Which of those rims and tires fit the MT?

Now, XTM's X-Factor is the truck you want. Well, it one I want too. Then I would install some locked diff from www.rcalloys.com and then I would get IMEX tires, plus gear down. But the locked 1/8 scale diff from RC Alloys should fit in the XTM. They look sweet.

Go to http://globalservices.globalhobby.com/globalforum/viewforum.php?f=6
AlL X Factor owners post here plus you get awsome customer service from XTM. The best rock crawler is the X, plus its the baddest truck out there. You can purchase a X for 399.99 from Hobbiepeople.net

399 dollors is still out of his range. get some 2.2" tires from www.imexrc.com and use the rims that are on the MT for the new tires

touring cars? Maybe rock crawling on tinny rocks called sand.(JP) I want to turn my Maxx into a crawler with those locked diffs(I have 1/8 Maxx diff case's)

Rock crawling is sweet but to make a nitro crawler there would have to be a gear system like no other.

Instead of haveing a clutchbell with gears, it would need to be like a screw with gear "teeth" that would be the threads like a screw and when it would spin at high RPM's it would slowly but powerfully push your truck around, but this would require a special way to mount an engine.

IMHO, a nitro rock crawler would not be the way to go. Rock crawling requires several things that nitro engines do not do well: low-speed torque, being able to go into reverse, keeping cool while hardly moving. That is why serious rock crawlers are electric. Sure, you can make one (XTM with a fan-cooled engine with ultra-low gearing) but a TXT-1 will out-crawl it easily.

Pre locked diffs are a ripp off. Just fill up your stock diff with solder. I used it in my Tamiya Pajero rock crawler and its held up in some tight situations. Also, if you want to remove it, just use a screwdirver and a hammer.

A nitro rock crawler isn't a good idea if you plan on running on anything bigger than 5in. You'd get stuck on big stuff easliy and probibly having to restart your engine 5-10 times a tank. Definatly a hassle. Just get an electric. A clod with a mod chassis and suspension would definatly do better than any nitro. Even my pajero would be better and its the size of a touring car.

nmt as a rock crawler?! Your'e kidding right? I have one and it does NOT have the travel to rock crawl. It sucks anyway so I'd stay away from it.

Yeah, I know nitro is hardly suited to rock crawling, that's why I wanted to see what you all think about the best of a sub-par category. It would be a fun project to do anyways! :D I'll check out the X-factor, it really does look cool.

the mad force is also a great trials turck. . . and the axle problem is nonexistant because there is no jumping. . .

And the lack of articulation will cause it to be a poor choice.
