hmmm seems like 1:18 scale could be the next big thing after monster trucks hehe. use 'em almost anywhere and not as expensive as bgger scales. seems like 1:18 scale could grow very well IMO.

With a little modding...not much slower...
A micro with a speed300-sized motor and 6-cells can easily keep up with, if not beat, a stock motor 1/10 scale car

This all started from that kid that wrote into RCCA a few months ago about how cool it would be if some company would make micro trucks that you could play with inside. Thanks kid, I know I'm buying one.

As quoted from rcca....
"We cant divulge how we obtained this picture, but we can tell you that this is a spy pic of Team Losis prototype min triple-xt. Look closely at the photograph and youll easily discer the size of the mini as it sits alongside its full-size counterpart. Judging by the looks of the little critter, we'd say it is right around 1/18 scale and looks much like the full size truck (at least, its suspention design is similar). Lets hope this spurs a whole new category; were sure losi wouldnt mind. We can see it now... a slew of new race trucks taking over the race scene. Pretty cool suff. Stay tuned."
The dont say much. From the picture i posted you can see the size of the full sized xxxt's wheel. I feel sorry for those of you that wait this long for the mag.

My wife may actually give up enough of the back yard for me to put in a small track for something that small. For that matter she may make me buy one for her so we could race. :D

Here's to hoping this car will be box stock fast, use a 300 or 400 sized motor so it gets good battery life also.

thats funny. b/c a buddy of mine on the way to the races were talking about how cool it would be if there was a 1:18 scale offroad class. buggys & trucks
think about the off road tracks, you could build one in your basement. it would be much cheaper and easier to maintain, not mention to have a venue big enough to house an indoor track to race at.
This could be the next big thing...and I would welcome it.

"The MICRO XXX-T ...the next BIG little thing in RC!!!
Amazing, I can wait to see this thing with Proline "Micro" Road Rage tires, Masher tires, aluminum and graphite parts, etc. When I buy this, I gotta bulletproof this thing and get it skateboard ramp ready.
For anyone on the fence about Micro, let me just say that these 1/18 scale cars have tenth scale performance with all parts like batts, electrics, and tires at only half the cost, yet with twice the runtime too.

For those of you who want a little more info, I am got this from Todd Hodge who does R and D for Losi. I asked him whats up with it and if they are really doing it. So far this is his response:
"Yes we are doing a new Team Losi Micro XXX-T. It is a really awesome truck. And people thought we were coming out with a monster truck"
I cant wait for this to come out! Talk about wanting to have a track in your backyard how about in your basement!

It would be great if AE made one with the Micro shocks they have on the pan cars. I would buy this Losi if there were better shocks and if it were a kit. Soon we will all be going to nats. for 1/18 scale on/off-road. This would be a great place to start will the new x-ray car and a micro losi. With all the electronics getting smaller and smaller batteries with more run time you could have 30+ min. long electric mains.

If you look at the tons of hopups available for the micro rs4 I wouldn't doubt there are shops all over that would love to make hopups for this thing too! (stock micro rs4 has friction dampers, several companies made oil shock upgrades)
I had a micro rs4, I made it go fast but I couldn't take it offroad. I'll definately be getting one of these! :D

sorry but i hafta tell yah and i think im about the only one that really doesnt like it. i mean i think its cool but knowing my lhs with there track they would run it. but they made it for 1/8th scales and 1/10 scales not lil 1/18 scales!! so that would mean cutting off the jumps and making them smaller.
like i said before i think nothing bad about this im just makin a point (hopefully no ones made i said this)

Ford Racer#1,
I think you have to look at it from a different perspective.
The Mini/Micro cars are not necessarily designed to be ran on 1/10th and 1/8th scale tracks. They may be able to be run on them however. My guess is that if they design the Losi XXXT mini correctly, with the right motor in it it should be able to see speeds in the low to mid 20's which when combined with it's light weight should be able to clear anything a stock class 1/10th scale truck/buggy can clear.
The place where these cars/trucks really shine and my guess as to their target audience is, is for suburbanites, such as my self. There is no way I could set up a track in my back yard for a 1/10th or 1/8th scale truck/buggy. My yard is way to small. However for a 1/18th or 1/24th scale I could do it easily. In fact I'm planning on putting an elevated track in my garage for my 1/24th Kyosho Outland, and will probably pick up a Losi when it comes out to run on the same track.
Also with the smaller size of these trucks/buggys it makes it much more convinent for a hobby shop to put in a track because much less space is needed and in some cities space is at a premium. It also allows hobby shops to put tracks indoors, so in bad weather states such as Oregon (where I live) it means year round racing with more of a variety of track.
In the end they are not meant to replace 1/10th or 1/8 scale cars/trucks/buggys, they are only there to compliment them.

chums gum . Why are you saying off-road will be off-road again ? Are you telling me that 1/10 stadium trucks aren't off-road ? But this truck is GREAT I'll wait to see if they come up with a kit with better shocks and maybe graphite parts. If there was one company that i would never have thought they were to build a micro off-road truck is Losi !!

Don´t forget how easy will be layin out indoor tracks even on diff surfaces as carpet. You could set jumps (on/off) on actual hpi´s tracks. Just put da jumps wherever the track. Setting doubles, tripples, whoops....I can´t wait much longer....Stadium racing with no cleaning after bashing. Sounds pretty good, ain´t it?

Do you guys think this would work on short grass? Does it have enough ground clearance?
Knappster
09-06-2003, 08:25 PM
i doubt it...1/10 scale ST's have trouble on grass if its not 1-2 inches...so unless ur running them on something like a golf green i dont think they will do to good
mccrash59
09-08-2003, 01:07 PM
That is like running your miniz on the parkin lot, with all those pebbles and the car bumps once and again. Think the esc won´t handle grass. The car will run better on stuff such hard packed dirt, concrete, carpet, or artificial grass ( i tried it with my Overland and it´s so cool).

Looks like SOMEONE coughmecough just found a way to get into electric rc's w/o payng a ton if mulah$$:D. Heres a few questions (im a nitro guy at heart). Do you have to custom make 6 cell battery packs or will companies make them for the micro? Also, im assuming a normal charger will do the job for a 6 cell pack but since the s/t is a 1/18 scale im pretty sure the batteries (like if a 6 cell pack) will basically be 1/18 scale to fit the truck right?? God I cant wait, after seing a kids electic losi buggy saturday I decided I wanted an electric to run inside...But this is GREAT, I can drive the truck around the house sooo much easier than 1/10 scale AND I can build jumps and courses indoors :D. This is sweet thank you Losi and I hope AE jumps in cuz Ill take a mini-b4;) any day.
Oh I think I heard that someone makes mini-brushless motors that would work w/the mini st. How much would you expect to pay and how fast would you expect to be going?? dang I have to wait till november tho....
mccrash59
09-08-2003, 06:31 PM
Nitroboy24<<<< Da batt packs are mainly da same as receiver nitro packs w 2/3AA cells. I think they´ll b as hpi micro 1/18 config, not a hump pack.
I bet this class will b a blast.

gizmoguy303
09-08-2003, 09:10 PM
I'm all for the idea, and if I wasn't saving for a real car I'd buy one right now; but, I'm afraid most people that are not familiar with the RC hobby will only regard these as "toys" and not serious racing machines.
If I do get one (and there is a pretty good chance I will - temptation is strong), I can only imagine how hard it would be to tell an onlooker at the racetrack that the little critter cost me $350 after racing parts.
Oh well, this only brings me to my next conclusion: I'll have to get an E-Maxx and a Mini-T. Only then shall I be satisfied. :D
Oh wait, my real car.
If only RC could serve as a means of transportation as well.....

Bleh, if a company would like to do something cool it would be make a nitro mini (like HPI did for a short time). Electric minis are overrated (driven/maintained a micro RS4 as well as a miniZ). Besides.. they're electric!

randominsanity.
They are talking about 280/300 sized brushless motors not full sized 540 sized motors. The smaller mini sized brushless motors should have run times as long or longer than the brushed motors and be just as fast or faster.
Both Hacker and Lehner make mini sized brushless motors and both will probably work in the Mini Losi XXXT.
I wonder how many cells these smaller brushless motors can handle?
Should be fun regardless.

I saw the Mini T at the Chicago Hobby Expo this weekend. There was a demo track set up for it which was about 10' x20' and I witnessed several of the demos. The track was carpeted with a couple of cardboard jumps and some small plastic bumps. It is as awesome as you all expect. They lined up a couple of Mini T's in a row after the jumps and jumped them with ease. The track had a small plexiglass fence on the perimeter and the drivers would find an intrigued youngster and drive up the plexiglass wall til almost vertical and then wave at them with the front wheels. This seemed to bring smiles every time. They were using a 5 cell pack instead of the stock 4-AA holder which is removeable. The servo is a micro-servo and it has four wires connecting it to the reciever/ESC unit. So if you plan on changing out the electrics as I do, you should keep this in mind. Performance was impressive with the stock set up. It will be hard to justify upgrading but I am thinking of putting in this brushless combo found here::D

Heres some info on the mini-t, you guys sure are really behind!
Team Losi is ready to unleash a totally new concept in off-road fun truck’n with the new “Mini-T”. With all the hype and interest in trucks gone big it’s really exciting to see another fresh approach with “outside the box” thinking. The Mini-T is an economically priced 1/18 scale Ready-To-Run replica of the sensational XXX-T Matt Francis National Champion race truck. But don’t let the price, simplified construction, or size fool you, this screaming little race truck has many of the features found on its larger brothers. The transmission is equipped with a heavy-duty gear diff and precision ball bearings for the ultimate in power and performance. There’s extended travel long arm suspension with friction shocks, disc type racing wheels and hi-traction rubber tires. The racy stadium truck body comes prepainted in your choice of three colors with cool graphics and detail stickers already applied. Best of all the racer inspired radio system is fully proportional with servo reversing and adjustable-rate steering, a forward/reverse FET electronic speed control, and features changeable crystals on 27MHZ allowing for a bunch of Mini-T’s to race at the same time. Power comes from four AA alkaline cells or for even more sensational performance an optional six cell rechargeable Ni-Cad pack. Of course, all replacement parts are available with option parts to follow. With real suspension and semi-pneumatic tires the Mini-T can be run on rough and irregular surfaces indoors or outdoors. So when it’s too hot, cold, or wet outside, the garage, family room, or patio can become an instant racetrack. The only limitation is your imagination. Small jumps, bumps, or dips just make for more fun.
Look for Team Losi’s new Mini-T at hobby shops and race tracks around Thanksgiving for a street price of about $150!
LOSB0200 Mini-T 1/18 RTR Stadium Truck Street Price Est $150.00
Go to www.teamlosi.com for some pics and a vidio of it in action!

DOes anyone think that there'll be a kit? The only way i'll buy one is if they release one in kit form. I've bought 2 rtr's, and, I wanna build!

Lots of guys with micros have brushless motors in their cars, doing 45mph at least, and the most i ever heard was this guy with a 300 brushless and 12 cells i think, doing 55-60. Since the xxxt is a stadium truck type, its probably will never reach 60, but i bet it can do at least 50 with the brushless and 12 cells :). Actually i dont think this is possibly because this can only happen if they make a pan chassis for the truck (for the 12 cells), which i dont think is going to happen, so i guess it wont reac 50 either :(.

honestly... is there any reason why anyone would want a stadium truck to go that fast... and with the soft suspension and high cg how doyou think it would handle going that fast?
I think a modified speed 300 and six cells will be more than enough...unless you are purposely trying to break stuff

Anyone who gets there micro to above 50 breaks stuff all the time. I never said they would stay in perfect condition.

As most of you should know by now, there is an artical on page 158 of the Nov. issue of --r/c car action. It shows and tells about all you need to know for now about it.Got mine on order.:D :D :D Have fun racing.

I would assume that the Orion Coreless would be a "bolt up" with no mods....
It has GREAT TORQUE and very good speed......That is what I'm going to put in mine when I get it!:D

You might want to save your money, or if you have money consider both. Alot of people are talking about a mini e-maxx coming to the production lines. :) There is already a mini monster truck out but I cant remember the name:( ! The only problem is it is solid axle:rolleyes:. Now I dont know about you guys, but i would definately prefer a independent suspension truck. Anyway, keep an eye on that.

it hastn even come out yet!!!!!!!!! and plus its the sam chassis base as the mini z overland jsut with a different monster truck (mad force) body and mt tires!!!!!!

I've seen both in person at the Vegas Hobby Visions show in early October.
the "mad force" overland is NOT impressive, its a pile of plastic with propreitary electronics and a crappy transmitter.
the PTI micro monster is a hobby class r/c car that runs on a 540 motor and 5 sub-c batteries, with standard 2.2" stadium truck tires/wheels, meaning that options are endless as to how fast you want the truck to go.

well so your saying the overland and the mini z are junk also cause its the same chassis! dont want to flame. its not really mini then if its that big. but still fun. some guy at the races yesterday had one..... fast

mini z's are toys.
I have 7 mini-z's (one with a pro-z chassis, fet stack, etc etc), a fully hopped up overland, and an F1 mini z. I feel they are toys, you are entitled to your own opinion.
yes the PTI micro monster is larger than the mini-z overland, but its a 1/18th scale monster truck, its supposed to be the size that it is.
The mini-z's have their place, but they will never be a hobby class r/c car to me, I'm sorry.

not yet but keep checking in with Losi to find out. however, for the batteries and motor, i recomend using Peak Performance Boost 7.2V 1200mAh NiMH Micro Pack ( http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEKZ4&P=7 ) and i think the HPI Micro RS4 motors will work in it.

The 1/24 Kyosho Mad Force is a Monster Truck. The Mini-T is a stadium truck. Two different kinds of vehicle. For speed and air, the Mini-T will do it. I love mine to death. I have it mostly stock. I have upgraded to ball bearings and have used a 7.2v pack from the get go. The only thing that it really needs is oil shocks as it is rather bouncy in its stock form. Early 2004 is the expected arrival of the Losi units. Cannot beat the price-point for them @ $30.

Just got my parents to get me one of the last mini-T's in my city for my xmas present. I got nothing else with it, but with some of my xmas money I should prolly buy a rechargeable battery pack eh? Cause how long do alkaline batteries last? I bought a 28 pack of duracells to last me the xmas day, but Im pretty sure I'll finish em off in a day. A couple questions tho. Any micro RS4 pack will work right? And as long as I get the micro plug I can use my duratrax intellipeak to charge the pack right? What amps do I stick it at? 3A?

I just got a Mini T from my G/F as an early Xmas present.
The stock pinion is out of round and useless. So I had to use the pinions from my Micro RS4.
My truck came with no extra gears in the box. Is it supposed to?
My micro RS4 had a whole set of pinions extra with the kit.
Does anyone who own a Mini T know if it came with extra pinion gears?
All my truck had in the box was the truck, radio, shock collars, and wrench and the exploded view sheet.
Was it supposed to have more stuff? The LHS my G/F bought it from is very dishonest so I wouldn't put it past them to steal parts. They've done it before.
Thanks for the help.
fezzy

No the Mini T does not come with extra pinion gears, In the box you should get: Truck (Prebuilt), Transmitter, Shock preload, Wrench, Antenna tube, Manual, Battery pack mounting bracket and a Exploded Diagram.

Good, that's what I got.
I guess I'll call Losi and have them replace the bad pinion. The LHs won't touch it.
BTW what's the most cells I can run on this truck?
I'm using my 6.0V packs from my Micro RS4 and plan on making some 7.2V packs with the extra 2/3A NIMH cells I have.
Can this truck run on 7 cells (8.4V)?

I just got mine. Like 2 days ago. As soon as I got it home (After running all day at work stock), I put my Micro RS4's Orion coreless motor in it..Still running stock cells, but it's a major improvement!
And yes. The truck will fit special 7.2, 8.4 and even 9.6 volt batteries. I'm going for hte 9.6 volt, using 2/3 cells, and 660mah, with that coreless..I remember how fast my Micro RS4 was with that same setup...OUCH..It HAULED...
Another thing is the rear shocks...They HAVE to go...THe front, even thou they're undampened, are okay..but the rears just suck...Good thing Losi's releasing the aluminum oil-filled units for like 30 bucks for the whole set!
Needs bearings too...Only 8, thou, since the tranny's already riding on bearings.
Looking forward to a race truck, and maybe even a Graphite Plus.

any motor suggestions for the mini? im going to my lhs tomorrow and im gonna pick a new one up hopefully.

Any speed 380 or 400 looks like it would fit.
I think Trinity is coming out with a new motor soon. Tower has them for less than 25 bucks.

ok, here's a little I learned and figured out kinda.
The body clips suck, they are hard to get off
The servo is so freggin' fast, it's like zoom zoom
the stock shocks stink, the fronts are alright I guess, but the back can at least have oil filled.
I learned that running it stock will have it going about 11, but put a 5-cell in there, you might be boosting it up to about 15.
my friend's sister got this, she was running it stock, and it was slow, but when she put a five cell in, she was running as fast as her brother with a matt Francis Edition XXX-t with a XXX-T sport motor in it.
I raced stock Novice with a b4, and it got last because it was bone stock it was at SRS.
man that thing is so bad I could afford it, just need a new charger like a millennium pro, so, wel i turned fifteen, dairy queen is hiring and 15 is the minimum...

I've seen several guys out at SRS with the minis now. Scott is thinking about starting a track with them. He is trying to figure a way to run them without having to go around the full track. That would be intresting to see especially with the new layout since saturday.
