i just got into rc last year and bought a ek4 that was a big mistake. I have a hard time tunning the thing a the screws are always coming loss. So i`m ready for a new truck and have been reading magazines and looking at the forums. some people say t-maxx because of all the parts and easy start etc, others say savage because it`s strong and doesn`t break. i can`t make up my mind. all i want to do is run it in the park and have fun, because i live in the city and there are no tracks. i don`t know if i should buy a savage that i can build from scatch or a rtr or a t-maxx because more people have one HELP HELP H ELP
PS I`M SELLING MY EK4 THAT RUNS FINE BUT NEEDS TUNNING FOR 300.00 (fitoran@yahoo.com)

Your in the same boat as I am. I am looking for a job right now to support this expensive hobby but I see these wonderful r/c's and I want them. So I have been doing research on those 2 MT's as well and I aint even sure what to go with.

4x4_Racer, if your carb screws are coming loose, take each one out and put a fine coat of blue silicone on the threads. This will keep them coming loose and you'll still be able to adjust the carb. You do know that you have to break in the engine, which will take about 1 gallon thru it and run it rich, 4 turns out on the high side.. This being done, you can use these carb settings:
High....3 1/2-4 turns out
Mid.......flush
Low......1 7/8-2 turns out
After doing this, you just might change your mind about the EK!

Savage SS. You want to spend money on fixing your car, or bashing and trying to break your car?

just to let let you know, both the savage and the maxx brake parts. i guy at my local track has broken every piece in his truck including rims, a maxx, even though you can brake parts, a company called rpm and stop that with there products. i have rpm arms and i have survived a top speed strait inoit the wall crash at the local track. im not saying the maxx is better than the savage and im not saying the savage is better than a maxx, but plese dont judge the truck on their broken parts. things break and theres nothing you can do. i mostley race/ jump my maxx iand i can usally go about two months or so without braking a part, bodies on the other hand.........

If you thought your ek4 was hard to tune. Get the t-maxx you'll want to shoot yourself. Go with the savage the t-maxx carb sucks a$$.

I am not going to knock the Savage (i have 2 tmaxxes).. I would like to have one!!! The only thing negative that i have heard about the Savage is that you have to take the thing close to apart to work on some of it.. but that is it.. Other than that... the TMAXX and SAVAGE are widely supported from almost every company/LHS and probably over half of the people on this forum own one or the other.
Anyway.... I would sell that thing and go maxx or savage.. if smooth running and support are what you want.

T-Maxx or Savage. Like it has been said in many other forums. It is mostly opinion. You shouldn't be dissapointed with either.
For racing either one could win. Mostly driver. For jumping. The T-Maxx can jump higher and farther but the Savage can soak up a landing better and is more durable. The T-Maxx is faster and accelerates faster. The T-Maxx is easier to find parts for and any upgrade part you could imagine is out there somewhere. The Savage is still pretty easy to find parts and upgrades for but not as easy as the Maxx. However aftermarket and parts support seem to be growing for both still. What I suggest is going to your LHS and just looking at both out of the box if the people at your LHS don't have one on display. Then decide for yourself. Beware of the bias LHS employee though. :p Really they are equal. Where one lacks the other shines.

I saw a savage at the local track 2 weeks ago. THe guy put a picco .26 in there and was just finishing breaking it in. It had monsterous power. It would wheelie on demand. Real fast on the track.
