Sounds cool, I like the 4 wheel steering deal. Post a pic when it's done.

Nice 4x4 pede. Is this the first pede that has been made to 4x4 or no.

I just purchased a RCMidwest designs 4x4 stampede. It has a custom tube-frame chassis and xxtcr arms. The truck is now big enough to accomodate e-maxx bodies. Once it gets here I will post a before pic, because I definitely will be finishing this project.
I think I'll do an EVX ESC and a pair of titans to start with. This truck will be a monster with 14+ volts running through it! I can't wait until it gets to my door!

howielong: Thanks I'm glad you like it. No I'm not the first to do it, but not many take the time to do a 4x4 pead.

FSU427P: Sounds cool, see if you can get a 4x4 action pic for this thread.

I'll see what I can do. I won't receive the truck for a few days though. At first you'll get a "before" shot, and after I complete the truck, I will shoot some action shots, because I'm sure this thing will be insane with a couple of 550 titans.

It's 2:00 AM, the snow here in MI has melted a little and refroze making it nice and crispy for my truck to ride on top. It's so cold that nothing will melt on my truck, it's perfect for RC fun.

My 2WD Stampede action pic.

Hey adrc, where abouts in Michigan do you live? I live in Fowlerville. That truck looks cool with that body on it. I went to your site, but I'm curious, if your still painting them, how much is it for a painted maxx sized body? I'm currently doing a 6x4 Stampede(yes, 6 wheels) and though I already have a body, I would like a "show" body later. When I get another camera, I'll post a pic when the truck is done(should be done soon).

I'm in Utica. Yes, I'm still painting the bodies. I mostly sell on ebay, I have some listed almost all the time. User ID: adrcracing. I try to keep one on my web site, but just sold that one. I'm currently working on an EL Camino and F150 Super Duty. I had to quit doing custom orders, cuz I was getting way to much email for me to answer. Most don't go with me after thay hear the price anyway.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the bodies, and I cant wait to see your 6x4 Stampede.

Do you ever go to Dirt Burners in Commerce? I go right by Utica everytime I go to the track. That sucks you can't do anymore custom orders because I need an extended maxx body. Nothing else would look right. Right now, I'm going to use a Proline F-350 ext. But, your probably right then, the price would turn me away. As for my truck, my final order of parts should be here tomorrow and I could have it done by this weekend.

No I don't go to that track, I hear it's a part's buster though. If you need a long body try the HPI EL Camino, it's 19" long, and is a sweet looking body too.

Hey, How do you put together the 4x4 pede? Thanks.:D

adrcracing

There is no set way to do it, you just need two Stampede transmissions, a 4x4 chassis and a few other parts to build the front end. You can make or buy a 4x4 chassis. Check out my 4x4 Stampede page on my web site for a complete parts list. There is a link at the top of this page.

That sounds cool, I'm sure it can be done with a lot of work. I would start with a pice of carbon fiber off ebay, some aluminum stock/rod from Home Depot and two Stampede gear boxes. 4x4 is nessicary for rock climbing, not only that, you need to glue the sun/diff gears for posi 4x4 all wheel traction. Or you could be stuck at the bottom of the rock. lol

yeah it has been done lots of times - that was why people like RC Midwest made them chassis - to make it easier for people to build one. the basic concept is take 2 pede trannies, on for the back(like normal) one for the front, and then adapt steering to the rear suspension that now sits on the front and voila, a 4x4 pede.

people like Thorbob and skelbow were making these things years back on RC MT.net

and as proof thors project history of 4x4xthor: http://www.thorbob.com/4x4xthor_index.htm

that will tell you how to build one too BTW.

Has anyone ever built a 4x4 stampede without using the 2 trannys and have like a belt or shaft going from the rear tranny to the front? I would like to try it but the only way that I have seen that I would be able to do it is by ditching the traxxas tranny altogether and using tranny and parts from a tamiya but I would rather kinda keep a "traxxas centric" setup using mostly traxxas parts.Any opinions how you think I could come about this is welcome. thanks

I don't know, maybe some 4 tec parts? Sounds like a lot of trouble working out the details.

I agree with adrcracing. It sounds like you want a traxxas version of HPI's old electric stadium 4wd. I have looked into this same thing, trying to do something different and unique only using trx parts. But everything I came up with was using so many custom made parts and "borrowed parts" from other cars, that I got discouraged and started another project. :p
The last design i came up with was basically taking a gutted nitro 4tec, and using a 'pede tranny and rear arms. But the problem was low ground clearance, not much suspension travel and the chassis wasn't stiff enough to take the kind of abuse i'll want out of it
At least you have a start with your imagination, right? So, maybe I helped. Or maybe I didn't. :)
Keep us posted on anything you come up with. I like seeing custom projects threads on the front lines..... :D

When I had been looking into making one in my plans I was going to buy a tamiya 4wd buggy and then take the tranny and put it onto the pede. I actually had toyed with the idea of belt drive but I used to have an hpi rs4 mt electric and for somereason the belts would always loosen and would slip.

Ibjamn552

belt drive and offroad -- I don't think they go together.
You might think about doing what a lot of people are doing with TLT's. custom fabbing a chassis, use 'pede tranny, and use TLT axles. Personally I would rather have independant suspension. :o
Now that I'm thinking about this, I may start trying to do it all again. Just to see what can be done. Well, i'm off to ebay....
