I had to have my novak system replaced (which novak did without any problems, Thanks Charlie!). But to day while racing my buddys melted down for no reason. It was his first run of the day and he put a battery in the car walked to the drivers stand and hit the trigger. The car didnt go anywhere and he as me to make sure that it was plugged up. As I got closer to the car I saw smoke coming from the speedo, so I reached in and unplugged the battery. The speedo got so hot that it melted the solder from the terminals on 2 or 3 of the wires going to the controler. I want to ask novak if they have a problem with the system or what. Between me and 2 of my friends we have 4 of the systems and in 2 months and 2 of the systems have gone bad. So what is the deal novak?? 240 dollars is alot to spend on smoke bombs!!

I think its kida hit or miss with the first and second batch or so.
Ive had mine since the day my LHS got them in stock and have zero probs with it. I have raced it twice a week for about 3 months or so.
My buddy got one about a month ago and had to send it back because it got something in the motor. My other buddy got one and did the dame thing yours did.
Went no where and caught fire. But he send it back and hasnt had any probs with the new one, yet.
Hopefully they get ALL the bugs worked out BEFORE they release the performance version...

I just got off the phone with novak, and agian I have to say they have the best customer support in the biz! Charlie will take care of you, no problem. I wish now that I had not made the above post and called them first. Sorry about that Charlie.
The truth is that any new product's first couple of batches will have teething problems. That said, what is important is the customer service behind those products. Here is where Novak is second to none! I purchased 2 of the first batch units...both went up in smoke. Novak took care of me and I have not had any problems since! I currently have 3 of them.

I had my system for about 2 months and it didn't go up in smoke but the shaft seperated from the rest of the internals and it's being replaced under warranty.

hey Hooked, my system did the same thing about a month ago i sent it in and got a new one but that is the second time i sent it in at first the motor locked up but your right though they do have the best customer service. i just hope this one lasts and is there a limit on how many time you can send it in if it burns up under warrenty.

I run the novak on my xxx buggy, im geared at the reccomended 22/78, overall 8.66. Everything is fine except for the operating temps. I put a small fan next to the speedo to keep it cool. It went from around 220 to 170 now. But i am still having problems with the batteries. They get hot, around 170 or so!!!
im using 2000 and 2400 nicds. I just got some new 3300's, but am afraid to run them as such high temps can degrade batteries.
Is this normal? How hot are other peoples batteries getting?

sometimes just gearing 1 tooth smaller can make a HUGE difference with the novak(try 9.00+ gearing)

I agree, Just dropping 1 tooth on the pinion reduced my avarage temp by about 25 degrees. And no noticable drop in speed.
I've had the SS since the first week or two that they came out.
With almost ALL new products, I wait for a few months to allow for bugs, but because of Novak's customer service, I felt confident that they would fix problems if any came up.
Though I have had none, it is my confidence in this particular company that motivates me to buy ALL my electronics from them (XXLs, XXTRAS, M* digital signal module, etc). I've simply had good luck and good experience with them when I have had the rare speedo burn or go bad.
Thank you novak for the customer service that gives us cofidence to buy from you.
