Would someone been kind and help a newbe. I would like to get started in light RC backyard flying. I did pickup a mag and did some reading but one article tells you to buy a kit with this and another says to get that. Do I buy JR's new Quattro Lite? Please help, I would like to have flight times of at least 10mins. Any info would help? Where to order, and all that I need to buy? Thank you so much. Rockford,IL.

Have you ever flown R/C before in any form?

If you already have radio equipment, I think the best way to get your feet wet would be with a Litestick/Picostick and the GWS "Pico Pack" on a frequency to match that of your transmitter's. You'll soon be bored with the Litestick, but by then you will probably have broken the wings or something and you can begin experimenting with scratch built wings and such which I found to be as much fun as flying.

You can buy this setup for a little over $100, and you'll spend some more on a charger and maybe some extra battery packs, etc.

After the Litestick is dead and gone you will still have the electronics, motor, battery packs, etc. that you can use to build something else.

Hope this helps, Jim

Buy your radio based upon your budget and your future intentions in rc. The Quattro Lite is a good radio if you want FM and 4 channels. You don't need 4 channels for lite sticks etc. but if you want to move up to fully aerobatic slowflyers/parkflyers you'll need the fourth channel. You can pick up a Hitec SS 3ch am for under a $100. The JR Quattro is about $119, but I'm a JR dealer and I haven't received any yet. If you can buy FM as it will cut down on your radio interference.
