My brother currently races one (was mine and I sold it to him). It's a great running vehicle. He's had no trouble taking on the XX4s and XXX4s at the local track. I believe there's some pictures of the MR4-BC Special on yokomousa.com.

Keep us posted on how the car is. I have a xxx4 and would love to try something different. Only problem that I hear of people having is getting parts for the Yok.

Hey I live here in Groton CT. and I race in einfield CT at Rcmaddness and Chris Marcy the track owner stocks the car and stocks all the parts and he is very good about having any and all the parts that you may require if you should break down while racing! He an awsome selection of cars and parts. If you go to his website at www.Rcmaddness.com I think that he has the car listed for $299.99. Not a bad price since tower hobbies sells the car for $399.99 even after they get orders for the car I'm sure that they will be stocking parts. Later from Ken oh as soon as my website is up and running I'll give the link and you can take a look at all of my cars in my collection. Later....

I have not officially race this car yet on the track but let me tell you that this car flies especially with a Austia Harra Revolution V2 10t single and an 18 tooth pinion. Just trying to keep controll of this car across my front lawn and I'm wondering how much many bags of grass seed that I' m going to need in order to reseed my lawn this summer since it is nothing but dirt now and it resembles a rottotilled garden. HA- Ha-Ha!!! Well I guess for my driving skills the Motor that I got is way too fast for me at this time on my lawn and I just better save it for the track where it is ment to be raced. Because I have broke the front shock tower and the rear shock tower and the front bulkhead nad the front susspension arms already and just running it on my lawn I have burnt the tire down to slicks within just 6 runs. But considdering the abuse of my front lawn it is still quite a durable car in its defense. For all the Roll and endows and the flips that it has gone thru I'm ammazed! that it only comes out with only these few broken parts that are so easily replaced!! Later for now..... Ken

Hey is ther anybody out there? Is this thread dead? I really love this car or least I want to but For the first time this past sunday I took it out to the track for a couple of practice laps and I took it over the front straight away double jump and when I landed I flat I broke th3e rear shock tower in 3 different places! Now mind you that I only blipped the throttle over the first jump and I have bald tires and it still broke! The hobby shop owner said I'm to hard on my equipment! Perhaps, but this is a 10x1 single Austia Hara motor and an 18 tooth piinion with the 84 tooth spur gear! And I didn't make even 3 laps aroun this track before I broke! IT seems very fragile! or am I just a very hard driver? and do not realize it. I also broke the front bulkhead where the front shock tower screws into it. I fixed it with J-B weld and it is still holding up until I can get a new one. Later.................... :(

Those are the weak points on the car - but 10x1 is a lot of power, so you're going to crash hard if you do.

Thanks for the words of kindness! I'm actuallu thinking of asking my friend who is a machinest to try and make me an alumin shock tower front and rear and some alumin suspension arms and front and rear and a front bulkhead cap for me it he can do it and see what else breaks on the car! Is there any other weak spots that I should know about?????? And dose anybody think that this motor is too much for this car!!!and if it is then what should I run for a motor with this 84 tooth spur?????

Hi Lazerfan,
maybe you shouldgetto know your car with a 15Turn motor first and
switch then to a high end 10T??

Hey thanks for the advice! I think that I will try a 15t but what wind should I get a single or double or a triple? If I go to one of these motors then what pinion should I use? Would the stock gearing of 84-20 be a good starting point? Later........

That link don't work for that shop/track. I am thinking about getting one of these buggys. I like the way they have the one-way setup so you still have a front diff like the xx-4. I found the site. www.rcmadness.com. I clicked on the Yokomo link and it said the price was $449.99. :(

Yes this is Ken again and I checked his web site and yor right it is listed at $449.00 . Something seems fishy about that and I'm going there tommorrow on sunday so I will check with the owner Chris Marcy and see why he raised the price or if it was just a typo! Then I'll let you know! I picked mine up from the shop for just $300.00 even! Maybe he gave me a discount since I was one of the first people to buy it from his shop and I didn't know it. I will find our tommorrow! And if you really want one then I will see if he will sell another one to me for the same price and then send it to you ok! THen we could make a deal on it or something ok If you send me your address to me at Rcgeico@aol.com. Later and I'll post tommorrow night ok! :D

Cabbynate Hey I just got home from the Mini T-nationals and let me tell you for asuch a small truck they sure can really fly when modified but enough about that I asked Chris Marcey about his price on the web page and it is no typo he had to raise the price because of low sales and that is because everyone at the track is prettymuch buying the XXX-4 and there is low demand for the Yokomo. But if yoy still want it then try Tower hobbies

I think you need a like 15x2, 16x2. For a long time all I ran in my XX-4 was a 19x1. They have lots of power but not so much that you have to baby your car around the track. I run a 10x1 in my XXX-4 "but" and that is a "BIG" but, I am really easy on the trigger finger. High power in 4wd cars is fun but things happen really, really fast when you go fast on the track. Is this your first race buggy? 2wd's are much more forgiving............

04-05-2004, 08:33 AM
No this is not my first Race buggy. But this is the first time that I will ever be racing with a modified motor! Last season I was Racing the Ultima ST Typr R Truck with a stock motor for the whole season and did prety good. Since then I added the Lazer to my collection and just recently a Ultima RB type R buggy and My wife made me get her the TC3 so she could go on road racing and then of course now My Yokomo and for Christmas my wife got me an X-mod the Toyota Supra. I really hope that I can keep the Mr4bc together this summer on the track and every time that I race I hope that I don't keep breaking> :( . Later for now.........

you will get the hang of it if you keep at it. Watch the fast guy's run 4wd at your track and see how they drive. It helps lots. When I run my NT and I can't seem to get it around track as fast as I would like I think "how would Adam Drake run this track"?
I never go near as fast around it as he but I go faster than my style of driving....

Cabbynate that is great advice and I'll think that way next time that I'm on the track and I'll think of how Massiami H would drive this car on my track and yes I will definiatly watch the fast guys and there driving style!!!! Later and I hope that you do get the new Yok- from Tower bacause it would be a steel compared to what my hobbyshop is selling it for! Later..............

Lazerfan1,
I've never heard of a Yokomo as prone to breaking as yours. You mentioned that you got it used, is it possible the car was really thrashed on before you got it?
I've heard that the shock towers are known to be an issue with the BC, has anyone tried using the towers from the MX-4? As for the suspension arms, I don't know what to tell you. I anticipate that if you are breaking the yokomo arms, then you must be hitting something REALLY hard. I would guess that most 4wd's would break with that hit too...
Dyingslow
PS Why did you give up on the Lazer...?
Lazerfan1
04-10-2004, 10:59 PM
Dyingslow - I bought the car used but it was brand new built straight from the package and never run. One of the local guys here at the track loves to build and these cars as his hobby and he never races. He bought the car and then built it and the next week put it up in the shop for sale and I saw it for a nice price and I just had to have it. So I bought it. I have only raced it on my front lawn then the last 3 times I only raced it on my Local track just to try and get some actual track time. That is where I have been breaking lately I just hope that I can work out the bugs out of this car! I only have about 15 runs on it but I can't stand it on how it breaks every time. I have not given up on my Lazer! Right now I have a machiniest making me a Titianium steel chassi and top plate and a couple more alumin parts and by the time that he is done with my car it should be pretty much bullet proof. Then It should last forever! Later.........

Well this is Ken again and I just got done racing last night for the first time officially with this car. LKet me tell you the first part I broke in practice was a wing mount. The first qualifyier I stayed together and get a third place out of 6 cars all of wich were Losi's either XX4 OR XXX4. the second qualifier somebody nicked me in the straightaway and it sent me flying into the fence and I ended up breaking a left rear suspension arm. ONly completed 5 out of my 8 laps that I completed in the first qualifyer. The A main I was in 2nd place and I went over the first jump down the straightaway and landed on the face of the next jump and my rear shock tower brike in 3 different places and I did not finish the race. I have to say that this car was a blast t drive and it ate up ;the back straight like it didn't exist with the 10t single but the car is like driving a glass china bowl on wheels with a rocket engine straped on it. That is the thing with all the 4wd buggy's. You have to drive them like they are fine china. The trick is to do it quickly!!!!! LOL!!!! :D

Cabbynate> Yes you have to drive this thing like it is a china bowl! But Let me tell you this thing accellerates like a Rocket when being launched over the doubles at full throttle!!! I actually had to slow down going over them so that I would not overshoot the jump by the ten foot mark and go over the barrier that would have skiped half of the infield and would have probly have gave me one of the fastest lap track times of the hole day! It wuld actually cut off about 9 to 10 seconds that way and would have had a faster lap time then the fastest 8th scale buggy had that day. As it was all of the electric 4-wheel drives were within a 1 to 2 second lap pace behind all of the fastest 8th scale buggies of the day! So how is that for speed and excitment??? Out of an electric??? There was only 2 8th scale buggies that completed 11 laps around the track that day during the first 5 minute qualifying round and all of the 4-wheel drives were completing 10 to 11 laps consistently!!! :D Thank god for electric!! I can't wait for my Lazer to be completed so when I go to drive it on the track I won't break ever again. Later...........

If they run 8th scale on your track it sounds like its not made for 10th scale 4wd anyway. I think 10 scale 4wd's work best indoors on a damp clay track...

04-19-2004, 05:15 PM
Cabbynate> Hey this track that they have is made for all cars! They ran everything from tenth scale 2-wheel drive buggy-stock and mod and 2-wheel drive truck stock and mod and 4-wheel buggy electric mod and every gas buggy 4-wheel 8th scale to T-maxx and E-maxx and 2-wheel Stadium gas. On sunday there were 14 racing classes. SO I guess that the track gets pretty much beaten up all day!!! What would you say? It is a great track with a lot of jumps and corners and 2 long straight aways. You can get some massive air off of some of these juumps also!! So now knowing this how do you think my car did under these conditions? Good bad or very poor???? Later.........
cabbynate
04-20-2004, 07:10 PM
Massive air and 1/10 4wd in the hands of anything less than a team driver= :o :( . They work best on damp clay tracks or hard packed with smaller jumps. Triples are fine as long as you can down side them every time. Ever wonder why the worlds race never has really big jumps? Don't get me wrong, 4wd are fun as heck to race on big air tracks, just a little tuff on them unless the track in prepared right. I would not want to run my XXX-4 on anything an 1/8 scale has just run on..............
Lazerfan1
04-20-2004, 09:29 PM
Cabbynate so let me ask you this question if you had to run your xx4 on this track then I'm assuming that you are a pretty good seasoned driver? How do you think that you would fair on this track????? considering that I broke 3 parts on the car all day long and I'm not that much of a seasoned driver with this new car and after all of the gas buggies and t-maxxes and Savages have had thier way (tearing up the track) how do you think you would do??? Later from Ken.........
cabbynate
04-21-2004, 12:29 AM
Well Ken I would drive it like this: As less air as posable, fast on the straights and as fast as traction would allow in the corners. The only way I would jump the big air jumps is if I knew I could land them perfect. If I was a little out of line roll it or keep it very low. You can't win if you don't finish. ;)

No prob. Yea, I love racing my XXX-T. They are more forgiving in every way. They also take to tracks like you run on like a fish to water. The 4wd will out run the truck on a smooth track with small jumps any day, rough tracks though a different story mainly because the truck will still be in one peace when the race is over.
Good luck next week!!!!!! ;)

Well, Ken I raced my XXX-4 Wednesday for the first time in a long time. It was an indoor damp clay track with a 6 pack whoop section, a big triple and a double jump.
A long back straight Aprox (80-90 ft) and walls and poles in all the wrong places.
We ran 3 qualifiers and a main. 6 buggies started and usully 2,3 or 4 would finish.
I am proud to say I always finished. I jumped the triple if I was at the right angle, jumped the double and rolled slow through the 6 pack. I TQ'd but got 2nd in the main.
There was one Yok out there. I'm not sure how he did. The thing is I never really got to use the 10x1. It was good to have in case I needed it for the triple if I was not just right but not so out of shape that jumping it would have been to much a risk. (There where several casualties do to the triple and not just 4wd.) I guess I'm just saying that sometimes slower better..........

Hey I'm thinking that I'm going to go with a 15x3 or mabe as 16double and a machine wound motor just to keep cost down what brand would you recomend for these choices of motors? I'm thinking mabe the speedgems series line of motors. What do you think????? With this chice of a slower motor I'm hoping that the car won't break as easily...Later

What motor do you have now? You can just replace the arm in it. That is what I do for the XXX-4 since the can gets all scraped up. New arms on www.integy.com has hand wound arms for $23.00. They have a clearance on a 16x3 for $10.99.
Yes I did order one.......

Hey thanks for the information and it just be good information because you orderd one yourself. Can you believe this I just picked up two motors from one of the local racers the other day and all I payed wqas 10 dollars for both one was a reedy modified TI 7x1 and he even gave me 2 brand new sets of brushes and 1 new set of springs. The second motor was an old 12x2 kinwald motor. I ran the reedy first and got about 5 runs out of it before the armature selfdestructed, SO i put in the second motor and got about 15 runs out of it before it started to smoke. THe armature started to peel. SO here I have to good motor cans and no armatures. So will these armatures by integy work on both of my motor cans? OR will I need to get the armatures from their perspective companies????  Please help. Thanks alot.

Look on the bottom of the motor can and see if it say "epic". If so you need to get the arm that is made for epic motors. If the motor say Yokomo on the top uf the hood than you need to get a yokomo arm. They sell either or. :)

I would imagine the reason the reedy motor came apart was because he cut the comm a lot. On low turn motors you only get 1-2 runs before you need to cut the comm. After while there is not much left to cut!! That is when they go in the trash can "NOT" to another racer. That's not cool at all.........
I think reedy motors are yokomo based so you can find something on www.integy.com for it. 13x2 arms are really fast and last a long time. So do those 16 turn arms............ :)

WELL AT LEAST I GOT TWO GOOD CANS OUT OF THE DEAL AND IT WILL COST ME A LITTLE MORE FOR TWO NEW ARMATURES. SO THAT IS HOW THE COOKIES CRUMBLE. BUT I WILL HAVE TO SAY THAT IS A FIRST TIME FOR ME TO SEE A ARMATURE SELF DESTRUCT!! IT LOCKED UP AND SMOKED AND WHEN I PULLED IT APART I PULLEDS IT OUT IN PIECES. LATER.........

Cabbynate hey thanks for the information. I really appriciate it! Well at least I found out the reason why he sold me two motors for $10.00 i GUESS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR RIGHT?
Yep, Just spray out the cans and re-lube the bearings and your ready for a new arms. Rember not to get motor spray on the brushes. It dries them out.
let me know what arms you end up with. :)
PS, if they take stander stand up brushes try to find Peak Preformance #PEK2152 BRUSHES-SERRATED MODIFIED Stand-up 10-30 run ENDURO brushes.
They give good power and are easy on the comm.

Cabbynate hey Let me tell you that the local guy that I bought the motor from he is a real nice guy because he asked me how the motors were and I told him what had happened and he felt so bad that he said let me go and get you a new armature and he came back with a 9x3 for my Reedy motor and that was the last armature that he had left in his stock since he only races gas now. There was another racer who was in some financial trouble and need to sell his brand new 10x1 orion Revolution Austia Ahara V2 motor and it only had 3 runs on it because he had bought it last week for $70.00 and he sold it to me for $50.00 along with his good 1.17 matched pack for another $40.00 so I ended up with both of them. I'm going to concentrate on my Ultima SR Type R Truck and put the new Motor in there and race in mod truck next sunday! At least my truck is more forgiving than my MR4BC. Yesterday I broke 2 rear shock towers, my rear bulkheadcap, My rear wingmounts, and my spurgear and rear belt due to a small rock being picked up in the drivetrain, and on my last race my Antenna wire broke off of the reciever and I rean off the driversstand and spliced it back together and finished in 3rd place and still completed 4 laps- oh not to mention my motor wire coming unsoldered and also my front tires broke away from the rims and were flopping all around like jollopy wheels! So needless to say it was just the worsssst racing day that I have ever had. I'm nearly half way thru the new kit the track owner bougtht to replace a couple broken parts that he couldn't order 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking I just better give him another $250.00 for the rest of the kit. I'm getting pretty discouraged. But also the local fast guys were also breaking yesterday also and they were even saying the the track was all tore up and very bumpy and a lot of the rocks were coming up out of the track and causing a lot of handling problems to a lot of the electric class. So I'm taking a break for a week or so and trying 2 mod truck next week.!

I don't blame you. Like I said before I would never run my 4wd on a track like that. The track I ran on was an In door clay track. I had to drive 232 miles to get to it but it was worth it. These are tracks where 4wd shine. Leave the rough stuff for trucks and 1/8 scales. If you can get to a track like I ran on and run your 4wd you may never want to run on the track you are running on ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Let me tell you I can't wait to try my car on a track that is made strictly for electric cars. If I could go back to washington state then I would goback just to race at Tocoma RC Speedway owned by Scott brown. I race on that track way back in 1995 that was when Scott was being picked up by team Losi to drive the XX4 when it first came out. He was awsome at driving! That man was a total inspiration for me to race. All I had to race at the time was an old associated Worlds RC10 edition in the stock class and now I'm remembering that it was an indoor clay damp track that was so smooth I believe that my car would really do great there with all the traction that this track had, it was really easy to drive smooth even with mod power when I used to practice with the mod motor. Boy those were the days! SO where do you race at???? is it on the east coast or west coast???? Later

I live in Las Vegas. We don't have an indoor track right now. Nor do we have an out door track for electric only. When I race here in Vegas I run my XXX-NT. I go to So Cali when I can to race electric. They just opened another indoor track called Titus hobbies. That is the one I went to last week. I just love racing and going home with a clean car!!!!!!! It's 232 miles from me but My car gets 30 miles to a gallon so I will be making the trip a lot more. We also have Lake Havasu in Arizona that is about 170 miles away but it is out doors and it get hot in the summer time there!!!!! Lots of eye candy though as it is 30 feet from the lake. They race 1/10 electric and gas truck.......

Hey I would love to go to this track that you race at especially for all the eye candy! The rest of this week I will be working on my Ultima ST Type R Truck and getting it ready for next sunday, I will be buying a lot of the new parts that are on the Ultima ST Evolution GP. and then pretty soon they could call my truck the Ultima Evolution ST Type R EP Truck. Right now it is all graphite and all metal gear transmission! So with a few sellect goodies from the evolution truck I should be good to go. Later for now.........Ken

Yea, Lake Havasu is a big spring break hang out so you get a lot of those girls gone wild down there!!!!!! :D It will be interesting to here how your all metal tranny works out. Seems like it would be heavy? More rotating mass? Friction? I don't know much about the Ultima so keep me posted...........

What I ment to say about my transmission is that it has the lightened topshaft and the T6 alloy alumin diff with the carbidediff balls from the Gas Ultima Evolution GP. It is a nice upgrade and it still accelerates like a rocket and is a very smooth transmission almost just like a copy of the associated transmission but instead of a 2.4-1 gear ratio it has a 2.5-1 gear ratio. I will be working on it until sunday since I have not ran it since last september! It will go thru a total rebuild and testing before I go to the track on sunday. Later...

Thanks man I think that I may try them, But what about the ceramic diff balls by Acer Racing company. I've heard that they are pretty good also or are these ball better??? The reason I as is that I can get a set of twelve for $15.99 and not have to pay thru the nose for them like this auction might make me pay after bidding against other people, who knows what I mightend up paying after the bidding war starts??? Thanks for all the information! Later........

No, I'm not the one that sell them. (I wish I was that way they be in all my cars.)
I would bet that the Acers are just as good. You can't beat a buck a ball and no lie your diff will be smooth as butta. Just make sure you use all new diff rings and trust rings. Did you read what the guy said on the Definitive Products site? From what I have experienced with them in my XXX-T he's not lying. Acer or Definitive you won't go wrong. ;)

I just got a mr-4bcs and think it handles like a mofo. It was flying around the corners compared to the losi's, and did not break due to the track. The weak spot is the front axles, after a night of racing they are not straight anymore. I had to actuall take them out and straighten them so I could drive. I have a Lightspeed 12x2 powered by gp3300's. The only thing that broke was a rear arm becuase I jump out of the track and hit a Wood pit table. It has a front one-way which realy makes it fly around the track. I just bought the Mx-4 front alum. CVD's for it, so hopefully they will last longer. I have been driving a Mugen MBX5, and must say the yok is has much fun to drive and the mugen. Just have to get used to the light weight of the yok compared to the MBX5.

s14det Hey I agree that this car flys and it is pretty durable I run a Austa Harra Revolution Modified 10x1. This past sunday I had one of the local track fast guys ask me how I was pulling Wheelies down the back straightaway with a 4-wheel drive??? He was simply amazed! I'm still wondering this myself but all I know is that Every time that I pull the throttle on that back straight away about midway when I reach full throttle I end up in the air with the front until I have to let off so I can turn in the corner!!! If you know anybody looking for the rolling chassi then let me know. AT Rcgeico@aol.com Thanks!! I just perfer the kyosho Lazer and the new one that they are coming out with the Lazer 5. with the shaft drive. I can't wait to get one. :D

I was wrenching on the ol' yoko and noticed that my 2 front outer bearing where not running smooth.. I took them apart and cleaned them and they are still gritty (rough). This was the first night of the buggy that this happened. The track was very wet also This is the the teflon sealed bearings and the graphite hubs. The front drive axles where bent pretty bad, but the inner bearings where still smooth and clean. Was wondering if any of you have had this issue?
Lazerfan1

With these bearings just replace them with the acer racer ceremic bearings they cured the problem of the grittiness and they run so Smooooth! Later and good luck.

I was gearing mine with the 84 tooth stock spur and an 18 tooth pinion for the single and with the double I would go with the 17 tooth pinion. With this combo I still pull wheelies down the back straightaway at my track!!! SO good luck.

Get it if your LHS stocks parts for it. Kinda pointless to have a car that nobody really has parts for.
kentetsu
07-05-2005, 08:20 PM
My LHS stocks this car and also carries in stock plenty of spares for it... I was just wondering how it stacks up compared to other 4wd out there... most of the other hobby stores close by are not doing too much in the way of upper end electric buggies... where I am they seem to be concentrating more on nitro or only stock the entry level Tamiya's like the Baja King.. and I already have one of those as it is what I started with...

I asked myself this question when I bought mine last month, and in all honesty, the bigest limiting factor at this oment in time is my driving. Once I get back into it - after a 15 year absence - I should then consider some upgrades and modifications - if truth be told a new Yokomo is coming out at the start of next year, and it looks pretty mean and cool. :o

Anyone still running this out there?
I find this car.. just as competitive as any of the more modern cars.
Would love to find an extra body if you have one reading this.
Anyone install the slipper clutch? does it make that much difference?

I still run mine and love it. I do not have a spare body, but will let you know if I run across one. I have not run the slipper, but I would use one if I changed to brushless.

I can get the slipper off of ebay pretty cheap.. compared to new.
SO I was wondering if it was worth the purchase or not.
Yep.. Body is what I need.. wish something else from another company would fit.. at least I have a spare wing.. which is the one thing I find gets wiped out pretty easy.
