there's really only one choice out there and that's an AMB system. The newest model is the one that uses personal transponders you mount in the cars, and you can also get a set of the older styled transponders that you can use as "track" transponders for people that don't yet have a personal one.

You can but it directly from AMB and for the life of me, I can't remember their web site address right now. I think it's AMB-IT.com but I'm not sure.

For a lap counting program, you can use the software hat comes with the system, but it is a little of a pain to understand and use. At Rosewood, we've been using the latest version of Autoscore that works on Windows and can handle the new version of AMB counters as well as the older models if you come across a used system.

Like Ron said, the only reliable systems to get is the AMB system...A couple other have made them and they work, but if you want something that is "universally" accepted, then the AMB is the way to go...Make sure you get the newer AMB-it system - that's the one that accepts personal transponders

As far as a timing program...I've heard good and bad things about most - and have had experience with both...

MY favorite is Jlap - works very well for both onroad and offroad...Very flexiable and easy to use

Next "favorite" would be AutoScore - Windows version...That's the only version that is "personal transponder" friendly...Not as easy to use as JLap but a solid program nonetheless...Missing a couple of the nice export feature of JLap but still works well - and maybe the most popular among tracks

Next - and last ditch - would be the software the comes for free with the timing system...Not very easy to learn to use, or run races from...But it is free and that (sometimes) means a lot - but being free also makes you wonder about its abilitities
