I am assembling a T4 with a Hacker master sport controller and a Hacker C40-8s motor for a friend.

I have no experience with the C40 motors or how to gear them in a truck.

What would be a good starting point for the gear ratio on this thing?, (using the stock 87 tooth spur gear).

Also the output shaft on the motor is much longer and rubs on the gear cover, is it ok to trim this with a dremel and cut off wheel?

I have the RMP gear cover and it doesn't rub...but maybe the cover is just worn...

I have the same setup as you and I use a 18t pinion and a 87t spur.

Thanks Sandman,

I heated the stock gearcover with a bic and then pushed the plastic out, and now no more rubbing, it was brand new by the way.

We will try the 18 tooth pinion as the starting point, much appreciated, are you running the controller in unlimited or are you using one of the limiting modes (45amps or 60 amps)? and along the same lines are you in timing mode 1 (2-5 degrees) or mode 2 (10 degrees)?

Thanks again for sharing!
