My solution was not an engineering breakthrough but it worked - Selotape!

Correct if I am wrong, but Selotape is a compay in UK that produces stickytape/scotchtape. Its called Selotape just like some people call a vacuum cleaner, a 'Hoover'.
They name in after its designers name, or the product name... not what it actually is :)

Why not mount the neon to the chasis so that it does not flex and fall off the body. You could probably use some kind of safety wire or something to hang it just like you would a stinger pipe on a nitro car.

It's only an opinion, but to make it more realistic, I think you should paint the very back of the body silver that way it won't shine through the body, and it will reflect off of the ground a little brighter, possibly.

I'd suggest painting black to act as a barrier so the glow doesnt shine 'through' the shell, then paint silver on top of that so the light is reflected.
