View Full Version : Best Street/Race Competition #9 (No restrictions)

mab_man20
10-20-2003, 11:20 PM
Welcome everyone to the 9th Street/Race Competition!!

The Street/Race paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at Midnight October 31th.

Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!

The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action or R/C Nitro!!

Restrictions: None

RULES for Street/Race competition:

1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (October restrictions: None)
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
9) Bodies must be of a "street" look or be painted in a race car style.

Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
And of course, a body.

This month the great IntegraD12 will be judging the Street/Race paint competition.

Each body will be judged by the following criteria (1-bad, 10-excellent):

Detail (score 1-10) (decals, grills, mirrors, roll cages, if its on a real car you score points here)
Design (score 1-10)
Execution (score 1-10)

The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body.

Each month we will place some restriction on all entrees.

November restrictions:
Best Paint-None any body is eligible.
Street/Race- None, any body is eligible.

GOOD LUCK

There is no real "difference" between tribal and street. My decision is rooted in the basic question "Would I ever see something like this on the street or race track?" For example, 1DVSRCR's first body uses the spikes which have been popular among roadsters for years. He took it a little further, but it still fits. His tribal flames are much more RC than a "real" paint scheme. I hope this clarifies.

I realize I'm probably going to get a bad reputation as being a trouble starter but once again I'm obligated to give my opinion weather it's desired or not. And I first want to say this competition was one of the hardest I've seen and would be no easy job to judge for anyone...and for the most part I agree with the majority of your decisions "integra d12". But I have to completely disagree with the final score for "Kandyman". I like the scheme a lot but lets be honest....it's only 2 colors and aside from the carbon fiber fin it can be done with no cutting and simply some masking tape. I just fail to see how such a body could result in such a high score...no offence "Kandyman".

Lastly, I have a hard time with the large gap in the score between "smartdriver" and "PitStops Altima black and white". What I'm referring to is the judgment on difficulty. "PitStops Altima black and white" although it is a much cleaner execution and has a nicer overall design it consists of 2 colors and decals. I'm a firm believer decals are great for curtain schemes but should never be considered difficult.

For the record I completely agree with "Rahxephon" being the winner...great job man!...and to everyone for that matter.

I agree. I was surprised I was beat by two some-what basic schemes. I didn't expect to win, and honestly only entered for sh@t's and giggles, and possibly was even in the wrong contest ( per mab's post. )

I'm not going to dispute the winner, That is a pretty kick-ass body.

oh well, live and learn. Next time I'll put tons of decals on it. :p ...and I'll use headlight decals next time.:p

I just want to give props to all who entered their rides. It takes a little more than guts to paint something and then be judged on it when you think it's the best. (being high on paint fumes helps)
I don't look at these comps as anything more than a group of people sharing a common hobby, and an expression of what your tastes are.

Do I agree with the judges decision?
not entirely, but he was the judge and that is the way he saw it.

any gripes should be taken with a grain of salt, and hopefully inspire you to bring something new to the table.

GREAT JOB!!! to all that entered

I just want to say thank you for the honor and experience of winning a competition. It does take a lot of guts to paint a body and then have it be compared and judged by others. But then again, that is where the excitement is at.

Good show everyone:)

I wasn't going to say anything until someone else brought it up. After it was said, I figured it probably is best to voice this, just so that it can be used as constructive critisism for the future..

This was my first contest and I ddnt expect too much from a simple job like it was.
but I do have something working that will do MUCH better.
I did enjoy coming home and seeing positive comments about my work, and I thank you guys for that.

I noticed that, ill email integra and get him to give you a score (it looks awesome IMO!).

To end some rather sarcastic posts and clear up some details regarding this competition, this is the

BEST STREET/RACE COMPETITION

Bodies are judged from the perspective of being a street machine or a track hawg. Having said that Rahxephon painted one of the most beautiful yet realistic paint schemes ive ever seen and deserved to win this competition. 2nd place seems to be more of a debate. Im backing up Integra's decision 100% percent because he earned the honor of judging and within the basic guidelines he is free to judge however he wishes. Im not sure how many of you have painted an entire body with chrome, but it is rather difficult to get such a high even reflection over the entire body. Its not like spraying silver, there is added difficulty from using so much of it.

It seems to be a growing theme for people to question the judging. Do people think the system is becoming outdated? Instead of criticizing the judge please sit down and think of a way we can bypass your criticisms and come to a more "fair" judgement of each body.

First of all It's impossible to make everyone happy in any competition and like it's been mentioned before...it's more important to improve and inspire not to win first place.

But since I have contributed largely to questioning the juding lately (which for the record, I also agree the winner has every right to judge the next copetition as he sees fit....I just can't garantee I will agree:D ) I feel I own it to you guys to make some suggestion for improving the judging process. I purpose that every person that enters a car also has the option to cast thier votes for the contest ranking...but can not cast a vote for thier own entry. And with the understanding that all the votes are ONLY recommendations to the current judge to only act as a guide the judge could chose to help his decision or could completely ignore if he so desires. This way the judge still has the ultimate decision but would also see what the majority of the other applicates think. Keep in mind if you allow people other than contest applicates to give suggestions people could create multiple new accounts and cast votes for themselves.

Only a suggestion.

When judging just state for every competitor why his entry is good and what should be better.

So you'll get a quite good ranking.
