View Full Version : What So Special About The Monster Gt??

I'm not trashing associated(because I love their trucks...), and I'm not trying to start a fight but I don't see what is so special about the Monster GT...
Size...
sure its big in fact its really big... but if you want hugeness than go with the Titan...
Speed...
32mphs I know it weighs in at 12 pounds but...30...I guess thirty is pretty fast for a monster but I could use a couple more mphs...
Suspension...
RCCA said its suspension is very plush and well done, and I beleive it probably is, I may be mistaken but it basically looks like maxx suspension to me, not to say that using that setup is bad because just about every company has done it but what makes it so special on the GT?
Tranny...
The 2 speed set up is sweet on the GT but it is still none the less just a 2 speed and again it only propels the truck to 32 mph...
The reverse is also well done, but now adays most monster trucks have it too....
Chassis...
THis is one thing that impressed me on the GT, the chassis is extremly open and uncluttered... and the fact that the side fins are plastic does not annoy me because any weight taken off this 12 pound beast is an improvment...
Tank...
The tank is sweet...it is ingeniuos and was a great idea....and its 135cc for nice long run times...
Overall...
The Monster Gt overall isn't a bad truck, I just do not see why many people are going crazy over it... I myself would defiantly not mind having one, I just do not see how its setup and performance makes it that mush better than a T-Maxx or a Titan...
After time however the GT may imerge as an amazing truck that I myself may even but pushed to purchase...:)
Only time will tell...

You have to consider that they were running it on a bumpy dirt track and this could have slowed the top speed down.

Absolutly nothing. I'll just be happy with mine all by my self.

What So Special About The Monster Gt??
Name and reputation comes to my mind.
I do hear what you are saying as far as the features being just typical. On the otherhand, anyone can claim 2 speed trannys, reverse, etc, but it really comes down to how well the features work. A 2 speed is no good if it strips gears every other run.

Only time will tell...
My thoughts exactly. :)

I have one but I think others that dont should look at one it up close the trans and diffs are very smooth and there's less than half the play in the arms as there is in my low mileage Savage.

Maverick Racer has a good comment since they have driven a maxx and savage in this thread (http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=1199314#post1199314)

yes the feautures are typical but theyre awesome.... something that you want to see now on a monster truck, like independant suspension on a buggy and a tranny in the back... yea its how its done, a good idea comes along and others wrench on it... first off the truck is fricking amazing, its huge, durable and if your not happy with the speed drop in a different gear ratio.... if not tht, then after the beginner friendly engine is wrecked upgrade to something more up to snuff in your opinion. i personally love the truck and have been running it everyday since the day i got it.
and i may seem biaed but im not... i have a 2.5 maxx, a sirio maxx, an inferno 7.5 and a FT tc3... i sold a savage to afford the MGT... and i picked the savage because of my collection its what i was most willing to part ways with. first i get many bonus's wit the MGT, like a real tuned pipe, CVA's, a chassis like a "steel girder", and a kick ass reputation behind associated. i gave HPI a chance to impess me twice, once with a Super Ntro rally and once with the savage ss... nither of which i cared for. it wasnt the quality i wantd for the dough i spent. traxxas tmaxx i love but the bulkheads suck, happy to see AE switched em out for somethig that is part of the chassis rather than something that breaks all the time from bashing.
to summarize, thumbs up to AE, and HPI should stick with their R40 which i think rocks... no offense to what you buy but ill take another MGT over anything HPI rolls out... for the fourth time....
like i said in the assocaited monster gt forum, im glad assoacitd took the time to get it done right the first time, rather than try to get it to be the first on the market, all the savage guys, and i was one of them, are trying to update their trucks and spending lots to do it. its like the space race.... do it right or do it first.... HPI with 3! versijons already, whens the fourth gonna roll out? bet you guys would be all over it you ding bats

For those who doubt my opinion, and for those too lazy to click the link above, this is what MaverickRacer said...
"Got to run one today when helping a customer tuning his in after the break in. All I have to say is wow. It easly out handles a maxx or savage. I tried not to rip on it to much as it was not mine to break, but just as expected the TTR motor is plenty powerfull. The drill starter setup is real nice too, no more blisters or exrta bateries and chargers, at least for those that have a cordless drill. Typical for asc this truck just turned up the MT world, well at least for me it did."
Take a look through the associated monster gt forum and youll see people who own alot of the models who think the MGT is tops and get some insight to what make this "truck so special" put that in your pipes and smoke it!

I bet The truck will Be extremely sweet, so will the losi, I'm glad to see everyone making 'em, almost every company has a buggy, or a stadium truck, all different in their own way, better in some ways (price, features, NAME, rtr, artr, etc). Its the new era of monster trucks!!! and i want all of 'em...ideally, though, the ONE that i really want.. is the one i dont currently own...till then I'll settle for thesehttp://www.******.net/media/sm-DSC00146.jpg

Sure did!!! This is far best monster truck ive ever seen. Has the greatest handling. There is not one thing I would change about it. Seems like its goes faster 32mph which RCCA tested. Thats for sure. Maybe because its just bigger....:p
