if you are looking for speed go with the surface prop. only one blade in the water at a time less drag. If you are wanting to play with the turns go with a submerged prop. not as fast but a little better on the handleing.

Surface setups throw a nice roost.:D When I run, I like to see more than just the water splashing off the sides of the boat.... I want to see it FLY IN THE AIR.

Once again, I'll have to agree with haljmac.;)

With the surface, you've got a lot more setup options also. You can extend the strut from the boat to help with rough water; raise it for more rpms, lower it for a smaller prop, prop designs come more into play and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

There really fun to tinker with.

Guys like Mr Ballentine who posts here have some fabulous drives for all ranges of boats from electro's to gas. Gives you a chance to really show off your rig besides having a prop tucked underneath. And with that, guys like myself like to polish the props to the max (working on another now) to compliment the drives.

Didn't mean to get sidetracked. Both setups have their respected applications. What hull are you considering?

Any hull thats planning the surface can usually benifit from them. My boat came equipped with them but being since I don't race, their not required.

i dont race eather i just want it to go fast..the whole purpose for the tabs is to keep the nose down and keep the boat on plain thus make the boat go faster right?

they help tp keep the bow closer to the water so you have more control (keeps it from porpusing), and also work to level off the boat side to side when it's on a plane (countering prop torque). Some boats don't need them, but others are almost uncontrolable above half throttle without trim tabs
