Hiya all,
Used to race nitro stock cars 10 years ago, had nowt to do with em since, until today.......
A kid a few doors down from me swapped a mountain bike for an RC car/truck........... he broke it today on the first outing - no bumper + kerb = broken tie rod + track control rod..........
I have looked at it and intend to repair it, but I would like to know what make and model it is so replacements can be sourced by him..........
It has an ali chassis in yellow, a purple headed Pro 21R engine with slide carb, what looks like an 'open' 3-speed gearbox and the engine is mounted across the body. Batteries are located in a plastic box at the extreme rear. 2 servo's and the reciever are stacked forward of the engine. Lower servo deals with steering, upper one does both the gearbox and slide carb..... seems odd?
It has some biggish tyres on it. All the suspension components are made of plastic! The track control arms in particular, I find it hard to believe they were made by the likes of schumacher.......... who happen to be just a few miles from here..........
Anyway, I have upped a couple of 130K pics, hopefully someone can tell me what beasty this kid has so I can pass the info on;)

Looks like a Schumacher Off road vehicle. Should be really fast when you get it fixed. I can remeber the name it's not the menance thoguh. Maybe somebody else can tell you the real name so that you can have some parts order. I know its a Schumacher though. Will best very fast too!!!

Thanks for that guys...........
I have had a dig around and do believe its an XTR3E....... Yet I did not see the disc brake when I had it here............. then again, maybe it is contained within the 3-speed gear assembly....... when I told him it had 3 gears he said thats strange he had never heard a gear change, and as you can see from the pics, he has *used* it!

actualy thats the newer version of the schumacher xtr3 desert storm thing, cause it has the 3 speed tranny,
please take the engine out and clean it, look at all the dirt around the carb , thats not good for the engine, also look for a nice air filter, I dont see one on the car.
but once you get it all fixed up nice, you shoud run some 25% nitro fuel in it, and let it idol a few tanks at a rich setting,
then youl be havin fun going around 60 - 70 mph cause of the 3 speeds it has, pretty sick, I have the schumacher nitro fusion car, = same engine and 3 speed tranny but the fusion is for on road, and suposedly it can go 80, ive probly only gotten it up to 70 cause its so dang fast, its pretty scarry. have fun, clean it up, and then tear up the neighborhood.

I have a bad feeling about this. All that dirt and no air cleaner!?!? I hope he didn't run it without the air cleaner otherwise that engine is probably toast.

Guys, seriously, after he gave it to me to photograph I told him what he was doing wrong........ Thing is, he says the filter fell of when it first did a roll and he didn't to put it back on afterwards.
Steering was very stiff too, loads of dirt around the mechanism........
Thing is, I did hear it run and see it moving albiet briefly, I'm damn sure I didn't hear a gear change and it certainly wasn't *that* fast. It may be he has already let in enough dirt to score the cylinder but in any case I did say I would assist with a full strip down (clean) if needed and sort out the gearchange problem, if indeed there is one.
Oh, and when he aquired it, it was brand new:(

gear change is automatic, so there is a spring and weight meckanisim in there, its pretty simple,
if you have the truck at your house, clean it, get some de natrued alcohoal, and mix 50/50 in a spray bottle, spray on and wipe all that grime out, ( try not to get any in the engine ) - note, when removing dirt from the engine area, hold the truck up side down, so dirt will fall away from the engine, - and open carb, you dont want any more dirt getting in there.
also - if you have a air compresseer, just use the attachment to blow off al the grime. that makes it easy.
as for the truck not shifting, it looks like he might not of done break in procedure, by letting it run for a fiew tanks of gas at idol, with out driving, maby the engine is still new enough that thats why it did not get enough speed to shift.?
any how, before doing any thing to the engine id take it apart, and clean it with some nitro spray, ( in a can = local hobby shop ) or if you have a air compresser, id spray out the engien with that, - take out the back plate , where the hex head is fore starting it with the drill, you can then see the crank and piston rod, look for dirt, if you se any junk poo or sludge in there, your probly gona need to replace at least the piston and sleeve. and maby even bearings and such.

Sounds like the engine is toast, Im willing to bet the kid didnt break it in. An engine is pretty much gone it you run even 2 or 3 tanks without breaking it in, theres really nothing you can do about it now, and since the kid ran it with the airfilter off Im sure alot of dirt got in a scored the pisten and sleave. Id tear the engine apart and see what the situation is, but it sounds like hes going to need a new engine. Thats also why its not shifting, since the engine's p/s is probably scored from the dirt and since he didnt break it in (probably) its worn out and isnt producing enough rpms to shift the tranny.

I'll see what the situation is in a few days when he has the parts....
I have been running IC engines of the small model variety since I was 12, I'm umm......... 30 now, so I'll certainly whip the head off and have a looksee inside. I'm not sure if it had been run at all prior to him using it, so the Q of whether it was run in or not is very much unanswered............
