My local club in Tally, Fl is going to try and adapt a point system for 6 months.

What kind of point system do your local clubs use? We havn't decided on anything yet, so I'm looking for ideas. Thanks for any help.

We use a 100 point system. The winner of the main gets 100 points, second gets 99, third 98 and so on. At then end of the series, your worst race gets tossed out.

I am going to be using my 1st point system for our march-july 2004 season. There will be 9 races and your 7 best will be scored. We are a small town, but reno/ carson city nevada are 60 miles away( they have no racing of any kind ) and we get about 50 % out of town racers. The idea of throwing out your 2 lowest scores is so you can miss or DNS 2 races and still be involved in the points race. Our system will be 5 points for 1st, 4 for 2nd and 3 for 3rd. All remaining racers who make at least 1 lap get 1 point.

How are you going to resolve ties?

We will race ( 4 min with turn marshals) to settle any tie scores in the top 3 positions. After that ties are acceptable. If you do not show for the seasons final race, and are in a tie for one of the top 3 spots you are a automatic looser in the tie breaker. Keep up the questions, You are helping me resolve some issues :)

Will there be any points given for a TQ?

It doesn't seem quite fair, that you can drop two days, but are required to be there for the last if you are in a tie. I guess that I can understand it though.... At some point, someone has to win, and that person sould at least be there.

Well, right now everybody is so happy that I built the track and am holding races I dont have any worries. I plan to make 1st 2nd and 3rd the prize winning spots and hope to give those people prizes theat are very close in value. The TQ spot wont be a factor. I want to keep it simple. While it is expensive to buy, but there are race management programs that incorporate series points systems. Autoscore is one and I think Allycat is another along with J-lap. This takes the hassles out of figuring out who did what. Ties in our Autoscore setup are resolved by I think who turned more laps and if those are the same, it goes by who did the same amount of laps quicker. So far in almost 10 years of running here at Rosewood, there has never been a tie. But, in the last points series, I won with second place 3 points behind me. That was our closest ever.

those programs are real expensive. When I showed the computer teacher at the school where I work how much a good timer program was , he started writing a program for me. We are going to work on it for a year or so and if it comes out good we might publish the software. I am going to use laptrack from easy-rc for the upcoming season, $9.99. If we make enough money from entries I will buy one of the more popular programs.

We have Allycat here, so I'll look into that and see what kind of scoring system it has built into it.

I'm still looking for ideas, so anyone out there, feel free to add some input.

We did the same thing with the 100, 99, and etc... We also gave the TQ and Fastest Lap of the day 5 bonus points. That way they get something for running the best. For tie breakers we took the best finish out of the 3 races that were throw out. We gave 3 races that could be throw outs. But we also ran about a 20 week race season with 1 race a week.
I have been to a few tracks were their point system was set up were if you won every week and missed once you could actually be beat out of first by someone that has been there everyweek and got last every race.
I like using the same points system as NASCAR it works the best.
