Hello again guys,

I was wondering how i should de-paint my boat. I recieved this boat and the paint was and still is horrible, very crappy job...

But I need to know what is the fastest and most covenint way to remove the paint..

I was thinking,

1) Lots of fine grit wet sand paper
2) Sand Blast (I do have very easy access to a sandblaster)
3) or ???

any help would be greatly appreciated..

also where can i find an outboard CMB .21 motor?

Thanks a bunch,
Todd

I'll be starting on mine in the next month.

Wet Sand

Sandblasting is a no-go. In just a moment, you could eat through it.

It would depend on what type of paint that is on it. I had 2 boats with paint jobs that didn't turn out like I wanted them to and got some Ethel Acetate from work. I applied it then wiped it off with some shop rags. Whether or not it'll work on your type of paint, I don't know.

i don't really know what kind of paint it is either. I just got this boat back from a trade that went sour and the guy but on a POS paint job. I think it might be enamel spray paint, but I'm not to sure..

And for sandblasting I really didn't know if it would be smart. Because the sandblaster i can get my hands on is an adjustable one from 1psi-500,000psi...

Also, what kind of paint would you recommend I use?

Thanks,
Todd

Todd, LovinNitro likes House of Kolors. Many colors to choose.

Whats the hull?

I have no clue what the hull is. All i know is it's a 24" Fiber glass V-Hull with real wood bulkheads and 2 seperated compartments..

Here's a really bad pic of it..

Looks like an older Dumas hull to me.

I would just sand it. If you could borrow a palm sander, start with some 100 grit then go to a finer paper to finish it. It looks to me like an enamel paint. You could buy some stripper and take it down to the bare hull but that can and usually gets pretty messy.

Looks like a major fun boat.

Ron was right! once I took off the heavy & useless Dry Box there was a sign in the Fiberglass that said "A Dumas Boat"...

Anyways, Yes I verified it's enamel and I went to the local boating supply store, and picked up some Fiberglass Paint Remover, It won't harm the fiberglass or Gel-Coat... I've got about 1/3 of the boat done so far, it works like a dream!

Thanks for all the help guys!
