After much debate, I decided to scratch build the "Wild Thing" .21 mono hull from plans. Now for the tough question, which seems to be the toughest of them all. Which powerplant to use. I what one that will last and one that will perform during a race. I've seen the K&B, Rossi, and a load of others, but can't seem to decide on which one so I'm turning to you guys with more experience than me. By the way, this will be my first boat. Thanks for any advise and hope you have a wonderful weekend.:D

For your money go to tower hobbbies, and get a os .21, add a tune pipe and you are ready to race. They are not the fastest engine on the market, but are quick. And dependable. In a race the fastest boat does not win as much as a dependable boat that finishes every heat. When you get too fast, there is a lot of trouble with control. I have seen a slow boat hit the clock, got in first, keep the inside lane, and the faster boats could not pass him. It takes a lot more of a boat to pass someone holding the inside lane.

I agree about the dependable vs fastest. If there is a group in the area that races the class you plan to run in, ask them what they run and why. I myself am involved with 1/8 scale hydros. Being part of a club has given me the chance to find out who runs what, as well as how dependable it is. Also, look at the way the motors are set up. Some have exhausts coming out the side, others out the back. Make sure you have room for the exhaust system before you buy a motor, as headers can, just like on full size cars, take up a lot of room. I had that problem on my first boat.

I have an os .21. Its a great engine that starts up right away and runs all day. Id rather have a little less power and a boat that will always run than one with a little more power but has problems.
Tower has good price.
I think they put out 1.7 bhp at 28000 rpm

I've got a Rossi Niagara which is pretty much the same as a Pirahna and love it. It's a fast boat that can handle motor prop that most others for it's size. The MAC motors are favored by most people. It just depends on how much you want to spend.
