View Full Version : weight problems with .21 t-maxx

hey guys,
Lately i've been building up my .21 T-maxx to make it a .21 maxx racer. i took it out to the track and it has some jumping problems... It has a Hyper .21 with the XTM .21 conv. kit, and off set wide rims, also a long list of aluminum parts. Suspension is stock with the big bores. (Gen. 1)

When it jumps the tail just squats down and hitting the brake doesn't bring it back enough. I even switched the way i took jumps and got off the gas before i hit it. Anyway no matter what i do the tail is squatting like crazy causing it to land on the rear skid most of the time.

Does anyone have any ideas of what i can do to help transfer the weight? i guess with all the weight of a .21 its just sitting down in the air. I'm thinking about a suspension modification but let me know if anyone has any ideas. thanks.

what all kind of aluminum you got in the back? maybe scrap the bumper and bumper mounts...also if you have aluminum shock towers they could be putting a bit of weight on there...i know it's protecting that engine but if you want the tail to raise then you might need to go back to plastic..maybe some rpm stuff instead of aluminum...which bends easy...only aluminum i could think you'd need it skids, bulkheads, chassis braces, and maybe bumpers(but i like the rpm ones alot better on my E-)

for aluminum i have chassis braces, skids, bulkheads and shock towers. thats pretty much it. you think switching to RPM will help? i'll switch the shock towers but the bulkheads i'll keep in aluminum because those are pretty vulnerable. any ideas with the suspension?

for suspension...since it seems like what your basicly having a problem with is your ***** dragging(lol), get the spacers that came with the truck. Put two of the really thick ones on each shock or one really thick one and one medium one. This will make for stiffer rear suspension and keep your rear-end from dragging/drooping

You might want to check the center of gravity on your truck, I have the same conversion except running a 247, the first pic is balanced at the dry CG, it comes out slightly toward the rear, when you fill with fuel, it shifts even farther toward the rear. I run my transponder at the very front to try and give the truck a neutral CG. The second pick is a brushless setup, with one of the brushless and packs removed for clear view. With the two layer chassis lowering the other CG, it is much closer to center, just like on my mutant maxx .26 setup. If your trans and other cases are plastic the weight will be even farther back. you might have to weight it in the nose to balance it better.

yea i checked the CG very crudely just by balancing it on my fingertips but it was very far back. i think my best bet is to get rid of the bumpers and trim the skids and probably add some weights to the front.

If anyone else has some ideas i'm all ears. thanks alot guys.

i had the same problem with my maxx. i have lots o' luminum upgrades and i tipped the scales at 18 pounds!!!! i then added trinity extra super heavy black springs on my aluminum shocks. it helped the truck over the jumps but it was still too heavy, so i got rid of all the accessories, luminum shock towers, only 4 shocks (buggy style) if i were you, i'd get rid of the fuel tank protector too. its just an accessory. my advice: scrap the aluminum, race trucks aren't supposed to be flashy and heavy, they're supposed to be light, fast, and nimble. try some of prolines upgrades like the suspension kit, even though it's plastic, it'll make your truck handle better:)
