I have started to make a custom rock crawler. i have made the chassis plates and started to mount the rear end. i have cut and shaped the cantilevers(not it pics) and i have made a workable(i think) "solid axle" 4 link suspension. this is still under construction and no where near complete. i have no idea what scale it is yet but when its done i think it will look GREAT:D

Let me know what you guys think so far and if you have any questions:confused: just ask:D

Nice work, it looks like you could call it either 1/12 or 1/18...

Won't the ball-cups hinder articulation? Looks like they won't move so much on the ball....

They should work fine, but if not they'll be easy to change. They might pop off in a crash though. Looks cool!!

Where are you gonna mount the batts? What batts are you gonna use?

the batts will probably be mounted along the top, right under the body. it will run off a 540 motor with 4 wheel drive. im using the tranny from an rc10 gt and the diffs are from a tc3. i might be able to fit a 6 cell pack and if not then i will use a 4 cell pack. if it works out how i think it will, this thing will rock!

looks awsome, i just hope u arent goin to have a prob w/ the tranny-diff axles, u kno it would be best to have some sort of telescoping axles or somthing

nice looking rear end design

use the rods you have to figure out the suspension geometry, but then you need to make real linkage rods. it may be overkill for a small truck, but i'd still suggest using 1/4" aluminum rod and heavy duty ball ends for the suspension. cups are no good; they will pop off. you can set up ball links so that they will not. another option is the one written about in rcca (i think) about using graphite arrow shafts for rods (probably work great for your truck).

you need the battery to be as low as possible on a rock crawler. build a custom pack if you have to in order to keep the weight as low as you can.

a trick i have seen used for the shocks that i really like it to mount them halfway along the lower suspension rods. then you get the softness and travel of a bellcrank without all the complicated geometry and delicacy of cantilevers.
