I'm not shure to be honest, i put some teflon tape on the threads on the inside of the shock but that didnt work. i did replace the draind oil with som TL 40 WT. but i fill it really high.

I was at the lhs in vegas and they had a racer version and I was thinking on picking one up, only 169.00 for the roller...comes with two diff spurs and three clutch bells...just needs radio gear and engine...even comes with proline tires and has the threaded shocks....sounds good any opinions?

If it is anything like the RTR i would go for it. I got my RTR for 260 out the door.

I wish it had a better raido but it works fine. It woul be nice to have all those different combinations on the clutch bell/spur gear.

Because veverything I like is included in the RTR, there are only a few reasons I would buy the kit. (um besides the killer price.)

If I had my own had a radio.
If i wanted to race where the .18 isn't legal.
If i wanted to upgrade anything before It was built.

The ony thing I can see would be aluminum shock towers, and a better front servo. (I toasted two stock ones)

Then again, that price makes you really wonder. What could you get a decent cheap motor and radio for?

BTW I love the X-C nice flight characteristics, and blazing speed hehe.

raderrustler
02-03-2004, 10:46 PM
I agree about the flight characteristics and Luckily I have not toasted the stock servos..I did put a 3/2 pack in the battery box and it made a huge difference in the speed of the servos. I can get a dynamite 12spd for 70.00 and it will run for 12-13 minutes which means no pits in a qualifier. I picked up mine for 239.00 on sale last year. I have plenty of radio gear so I am seriously thinking about it.

That XTM X-C Racer does sound really nice....
You Just need an Rx/Tx and some servos (XTM Punisher? Or Hitec Digital?) Has The Tuned pipe and every thing. BTW I'm Thinkin About the.12 SPD By dynamite myself.... Think thats pretty high power. 18 Is Killer But i wanna race.

I found out why I toasted the servo. If you look at the bottom of the chassis, there are two round plastic deals thtat arent screws. On one of my tumbles, one of those plastic pegs came out of the chassis, putting the linkage in a bind. I wish I would have known before I instalkled the new servo jutst to toast it again lol.

My own fault anyways, nothing wrong with the stock servo.

Any of you guys have a problem with your spur gears stripping?

raderrustler
02-11-2004, 08:16 PM
With the type of material the spur is made out of, you need to make sure the mesh is tight, and sand will wear out the mesh real quick also.

does xtm make a metal spur gear for the x-cell??

raderrustler
03-02-2004, 04:07 PM
No, they do not. I would not put a metal spur on the X-cellerator. It adds too much rotational mass to the drivetrain, and a 3.00 spur gear is easy to replace if something goes wrong.

alright, the price was just too low so i picked one up. i should have it by wed and will go through the usual break in and see how it runs. i am going to give it a lil trial by fire at the track and see if it has any hope against NT's and Gt's. i will post back my findings.

Does the X-Cellerator make a good starter car?

AznJunkie
04-20-2004, 10:23 PM
Hey all,

I’m thinking about getting a X-C. I have a few questions for you guys.

How is the durability? Does it break pretty easily or can it take a beating? Any parts prone to breaking? How good is the engine? Is it pretty reliable? Thanks in advance.

tallcracker
04-23-2004, 05:35 PM
i think overall it is a great little truck. it handles very very well and seems to be pretty durable. i have about half a gallon through it and havent broken a single part. the engine wasnt the easiest in the world to break in, but now that its finished it runs really well and puts out good HP. i hear the weak links are turnbuckes, rear hubs and the spur gear so keep an eye on those if ya get one. i think the x-cellerator would make a good starter car, it is pretty easy to tune and clean and the manuals that go over everything are top notch

Theshape
05-30-2004, 10:58 AM
The X-C is pretty durable, CHECK YOU SPUR GEAR ALIGNMENT OR YOU WILL GO THROUGH PAIN!!!. Also don't drive on the street really really fast and hit the brake to spin the truck, it will take its toll on the rear A-arms.My diff was bad, check that out too.

Hey guys whats up, boy am i glad i found these forums. I just bought my first Nitro, only my 3rd rc car. Catching up on what i missed as a child-lol. I have put it through heck and back. I finally broke somthing after hitting a curb (square) at atleast 20-30 mph. People arent kidding when they say REPLACE YOUR RECEIVER BATTERIES!!! WHEN THEY GET WEAK! lol sometimes you cant do two things at once (uskilled mind you). should have stopped steering and just hit the brakes. I have to replace the lower Right arm thing. It is fun taking it apart reminds me of working on my old truck.

Any one here in the San Diego County area?

alright guys... hook me up with info... i've got an x-cellerator racer truck on the way for a big race in a couple weeks... i haven't gotten the truck in my hands yet.. i'm expecting it early next week.. .

i need to know...

1. what configuration of receiver pack fits in it...

2. how many cc's is the tank..

3. will AE or Losi rims bolt up and retain stock width??

4. will only the XTM bodies fit?? know of any pro-line or losi bodies that fit ok??

thanks guys....

1. Rc10Gt (I think Pretty sure though)
2.75 The standard
3.Hint its A 1/4 inch axle
4.Losi Should fit, So should GT any one with a high hood and shock tower spots, XTM Made the Outside Compatable with anything....Sadly HobbyPeople is the only place you can get parts for it. (Put your engine all the way back for a non-painful mesh)

Now a Question From Me... How do I get my hands on an OFNA shaft start plate for the XTM cars?

Theshape

FLYBOY7

guys... i still haven't gotten the truck in my hands yet, it's still being shipped.. but i need to buy an engine for it ASAP... what kind of engine fits in it?? like will any .12 fit ok (i've got to run a ROAR approved engine for this race)?? does it have to be a short output shaft or long shaft?? and what about exhaust... rear or side on the engine???

thanks in advance...

ask your parents to get a paypal account. it is completely free and they will handle any problems with the transaction. it shows the amount of money that you sent and that i recieved it. i am like your parents and worry about buying selling things online, but using paypal i have never been screwed. also on e bay i have 100% positive feedback, your money will be safe trust me. if not i understand, but right now it is just one hell of a deal! maybe see what they say about the paypal thing and go for it. everything i have bought is around 700 and it can go for just 175 (thats my reserve) if the bidding works out that way. anyways if you dont buy from me i will just say the X-C is a great truck and XTM is a great company. call and talk to craig if you have any problems with your truck he is the man and will do all he can to help you well after the inital sale. good luck!

here's my view on the XTM excellerator racer.....

the front wheels are a PAIN to get off.... those front axles have got to go...

nice overall design of the truck... especially the battery and receiver boxes...

they never did get the front shock angle right... stock, the angle is too steep (giving too progressive front damping)... yet, it doesn't give enough front sag/negative travel.... all those holes in the front towers and none of them are right... LOL....

the gearing is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off...... the laydown tranny is a good idea... but there is no combo of spur and clutchbell that give a good ratio for racing... it's geared more towards high speed runs, not getting around a track fast....

if XTM gives you a clear body to paint in the racer kit... they SHOULD include window masks......

the engine slides around too much, stripping out spurs... the combo of the small'ish engine mounts and slick (but great looking) chassis lend to the engine sliding around no matter how tight you crank on the mounts... i would suggest not even running the truck until you've put star washers under the engine mount bolts under the truck..... otherwise, welcome to the world of stripped spurs.... LOL...

handling was actually pretty good...... props to XTM.... it is a racable chassis..... even bone stock...

oh and... throttle linkage for those that dig slide carbs would also be nice to be with the truck..... i'm sure that would get used much more than the sway bars... LOL....

anywhos... that's my .00000000000002 cents on this truck....

I don't have an X-Cellerator, but I am considering one. For the price and performance it seems like these trucks should be everywhere, yet, there is no buzz whatsoever about them.

I'm looking at this truck expecially since the racer kit is only $100 right now. One week spot that I see is the rear shock tower. It seems to be attached to the chassis through the transmission case. Is this strong enough? Has anyone broken this? Other than that, what is everyone's race experience with this truck. I'm a racer who's cars only touch the track to give you perspective. I would like to know how tuneable these are and if they can keep up with Losi and associated.

Wyd, I guess we're the only ones here. I can't beleive the x-c aint more popular it has got to be one of the best out of the box stadium trucks out right now. It has alot of features that other trucks just don't come with stock. I agree that there's not much aftermarket support yet but, you can use parts from other trucks so the possibilities are endless. I would just like to see more action in here.

Looks like fun. I bet you had a blast. It's good to here that you hung with all the other trucks and sounds like you beat most of them. wyd
01-23-2005, 09:58 PM
Mine kept pulling wheelies today as the traction was high. We run slicks on the clay. I also have my gearing changed alot as I have an Associated GT 54 Tooth spur gear and a 15 tooth clutch bell. My final drive is 11.99 to so I'm very very close to the stock XXX-NT final at 12.33 to 1. The stock ATM setup is on like 10 something. I have alot more acceleration than the stoc XTM setup ever had.

Now I did have to cut my crank like a GT motor would have but this setup is far better in my opinion for the tracks I run on. That is one of the biggest problems with the stock XTM truck and that they use terrible diff balls/diff rings. I redid my diff with Tamiya Thrust bearings and then used carbide diff balls and I still didn't get the new XTM rings that they said came out. Now my rings wear out but the it is easy to make the diff smooth now.

Going to rebuild my shocks tonight and put the Losi rear hubs on so I can get 3 degrees of rear toe in the truck. I have the 2 degree block in right now and with the Losi 1 degree rear hubs I can have 3 degree per side. Think I will change my oil setup just a little as well as the track is like a Stadium SuperCross track so I can use a little stiffer oil setup. I think I will use 27.5 oil in the rear and 25 in the front. Then go from their with it.

Every time you run the car during break in you are suposed to lean it out a little bit. Run the car for about 5 minutes and lean it out.you should run it for about 40 minutes total then the engine is broken in. Experament with the seting until you get the engine diled in.

I have realised this now. been adjusting it a little each time. dont think im getting as much top end speed out it now though. guess im just going to have to play about with it. I also have broken a drive shaft and rear hub!! think a large stone got caught in between them and snaped it. no to expensive to repair though.

I just ordered myself an xcellerator from Tower.

Any little things I should pay special attention to when I get it?

Okay... I was looking for a little info on the truck for when I get it...

Didnt care too much if there is somewhere else cheaper since I'm getting it for $100 less than it costs here in Canada.

Wyd - can you give us some more info on the clutch bell and spur etc your running and any other parts needed to get the lower gearing please.

I'm finding the x-c great. My local track is a hard packed, dusty and very slippery clay surface. To get the x-c to hook up I'm running the 4 degree rear toe-in , proline holeshot tyres (the stock rear tyres are no good at all for racing) and 20 weight shock oil (stock is 10w). Front is proline edges, again 20 weight shock oil with about 1 degree toe out and stiffer front springs to get some weight transfer to the back of the truck.

I would also like to know how to gear lower. Does anyone know if Losi XXXNT spurs will fit the XTM?

I got my xcellerator yesterday and broke it in without any trouble. Since that I've taken it in town with road tires on. The truck has ran flawlessly and I look forward to taking it to my track to try out sunday. I can already tell I need more damping, but from what I can see it should be a great truck for me!

A little update:

I switched the stock oil to 30wt AE oil and switched to Pro-Line Edge fronts and Losi Step Pin red compounds on the rear. The extra damping definitely helps over the jumps since the truck would bottom out easily before. The truck handles good, pushes a bit in the turns but that can easily be fixed. I am happy with the performance and will most likely race it on Wednesdays, or when there is poor show up in 1/10 electric which I usualy race in.

I also broke a rear hub today, got aluminum ones to replace them. They were pretty expensive but I guess there is not much choice.

Anyone know if Losi spurs work on the XTM?

i've had my xtm xcellerator for two years now and have had no major problems. the stock engine has always run with my standards and i have upgraded to a xtm 47 tooth spur gear and a xtm 17 tooth clutch bell from the standard 15 tooth. i have stripped out two spur gears and am on my third but both were my fault ie: trying to drive up steep pitch grass hill, and engine vibrating out of place. both could have been prevented. i have taken it off of three skateboard ramps and have had no problems at all, it has taken a few rolls and hard crashes and still looks like i just took it out of the box. i have not tested it since i bought the upgrades but hopefully it will add some torque. i will post on how it works out. i reccomend 25% nitro for a safe peak performance. this car is great for beginners and you wil learn alot.

i'm tired of my pullstart breaking, i'm on my third as far as that goes, what can i put on it besides pull start and where can i get one?

You can use a bump-starter. There are a variety to choose from and they can be found at Tower Hobbies.com

Ever try some thicker cord? I was suprised how thin it is.

I am thinking to get the kit version and want a decent radio and .12 race legal rear exhaust engine. Any suggestions? I am hoping to get an engine under $200. For the radio and servos I want dual steering rates, etc and again a decent one at a reasonable price. Thanks.

I recently bought an xc racer. I got an sh 12 to go with it. I would recommend this engine to anyone racing. It's about $139.99. For a radio I'd go with the hitec aggressor fm or the Airtronics MX-3.

Who makes the SH .12?

I raced my x-c yesterday and won my main. The truck ran flawlessly and I ran some VP Racing fuel which helped also :)

I had major problems with ballcups popping off the rear on sunday, so I switched to Traxxas rod ends. Problem fixed!

The rears are Traxxas rustler fronts and the fronts are for the rustler or some traxxas vehicle I think... but the fronts I Have use 5x11 bearings which dont fit on the hubs correctly. You should be able to find rims for 'losi' in the same style that will work with no modifications!

Paint on that body is Pactra; Blue Streak, Racing Red, Metallic Black

in one of my magazines they put the o.s. 18tz in an xtm xcellorator and they said the truck only has a single speed and they clocked it at 71 kmh!! thats insane and i was wondering if u could put a 2 speed in it ? if u could how much more power would u get out of it ?

pudder
11-21-2005, 08:50 PM
The 2 speed would give not much more top speed but quicker acceleration mostly. You might need to make a custom topshaft for the truck to adapt a 2 speed from another vehicle... You should try looking at exploded views of other vehicles with similar 2 speed setups and see what may work.

I've had mine for 18 months or so, 1 gal 20% and 1/2 gal 30% and and only had a Few breaks along the way. Both rear hubs, 1 rear rim, pull start cord, 1 rear axle, 1 front 1 rear turnbuckle and 6 spurs (I just ordered 2 more). I would say other than the spurs the truck is great and the speed of it is unreal.
I have to try the 54 tooth spur. Did I read it right, (pg. 1 or 2) you have to moditfy the crank to fit the 15 bell on? Who's bell?

pudder

six spurs! whats with that?

RuKind
04-02-2006, 06:45 PM
I would say that 98% of it was from driving style, which is 98% Driving it under the influeness. I'm finding out it's not the best jumper. If you can get the speed don't really mean you should jump it type of deal.

pudder
04-03-2006, 12:08 PM
I've had good luck jumping mine at full speed. As long as you can control it in the air and get the right approach you should be fine to land on all 4's

Hey kelcod, I just got one of these things as well, I haven't really even broken in the engine yet, but I have some electrics that occasionally have the same problem. I'm guessing it just went out of Radio range, it's possible your receiver or transmitter batts were not 100% and the stock speed controller will stay in position, causing your car to be unstoppable (except by a curb/parked car/human being).

Best way to make sure this doesn't happen is to set the car down and get about 150 ft away from you and then do a radio test with the steering, if your steering isn't working at 150 ft. replace your receiver batts. The radio should tell you when the batteries are bad in there

hope this helps.

Also I've read some people complaining a little about the stock radio with X-cellerator, so its possible its kinda crap, but I bet its just weak batteries.

The stock radio is a little lowend but overall the truck is pretty solid. I really liked the two I had. I use to race them on dirtoval and did very well.

The truck can be really tricked out with a little work. I actually ran mine with the Traxxas 2.5 motor in mine with a little messing around it fit. THe other one I use to run offroad with has the OS CZ .12. Both worked great.
