There's one on ebay and a bearing set for it too.
On another note:
I installed a Peak Performance Dynasty 19T Modified Motor in my Nikko Porsche and it ate my spur gear for breakfast.:(
Edit: I guess you knew about the Rhino on eBay, Mr. high bidder. I hope you win.
Gee, I wish my bro would do the same for me:(

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a very rare conversion kit for the Nikko Super Sprint/Dandy Dash range of cars.
Quite a few years ago 2 kits were made to turn these buggies into competative machines, under the name "Bratworks".
The first kit came with a new chassis, body suspension components, third ball diff etc - this kit I already have.
The second kit included the remaining hop-up items to finish the car off - namely shocks, tyres, front and rear ball diffs, ball bearings etc. - this is the kit I desperately need to finish off my car.
They occasionally come up on ebay but the last one I saw was on there many, many months ago and I failed to win it. The kits also sometimes appear on the Japanese Yahoo auctions but none of the guys on there will ship overseas.
If anyone can help me find the second kit please post here or email me at:

Attached is a pic of the actual kit I need:

i totally remeber that car!!, they use to sell them at toys-r-us along with the lobo and super lobo, and many others...im also currently on a search for an old nikko 57 chevy, or the 65 mustang fastback came with slicks and part of a blower and scoop comin out of the hood....they were fast (about 28 mph in 1987) and had a two block range..lol

I don't get it though, my Super Sprint already has universals, ball bearings and AE shocks so what's the point of the Bratworks package besides the diffs?

I want a brat works kit for my dandy dash. This is a wicked looking car. I think the package comes with a different chassis too. I've been looking everywhere and I cannot find any of these kits. GRRRR!!!!!!!!

Yes the Super Sprint has many of the features of these two kits but they still add:
Ball diffs including Centre ball differential
Fibreglass saddle-pack chassis
One Fantastic looking body!
The kits are basically for someone (like me) who doesn't have a Super Sprint and wants to build a racing version from scratch, rather than adding components one by one to an existing car.

Minijosh-
There's a guy on the Tamiya club forum who has 2 of each kit NIB for sale. Check out my "Wanted Nikko bratworks etc....." thread in the normal Wanted section there (not in the "Other Makes" section).
Be warned though - the price he expects is rather scary

As I said, I have a Nikko Brat conversion kit 1 that I can sell. Price USD150 plus shipping. If anyone is interested please let me know.
BTW, I believe Dandy Dash was released in 1989. So the Brat conversion kits should be no earlier than that.

Yep, your release date with the DD is correct, not sure why the other guy thinks there mid 80's. The conversion kits were definately released in the early 90's.
Good luck with your price ;) As I mentioned the other guy wanted a price way over market value. I bought my Conersion Kit no1 for $28 US
I've seen two lots of both sets (1 & 2) sold on ebay for less than $150US.

Good for you! I don't know how much that guy was asking. I only saw him mention that the 2 kits were sold on Japan ebay for USD410.
If I were you, I would just start building the Brat with the conversion kit 1 without waiting for kit 2 (assuming you already have a Dandy Dash/ Super Sprint). And you would appreciate what a nice car it is, and what a good deal you've got. Like when you hold those aluminium countersunk screws in your hand, just think ,for USD28 you wouldn't get that many bags of tamiya screws!!
I guess I'll just keep the conversion kit as spare parts for my Brat. Anyway I am pleased that people taking an interest inthe car, which is virtually unknown outside Japan. It is certainly an interesting car. Perhaps I'll post some pictures later.

The Brat is a little known car. The only place I can find some information about it is a Japanese website rc-off.com. It is a very good site dedicated to rc offroad cars. Too bad that I don't read Japanese, and Babelfish does have its limitations.
The Brat is an interesting car in many ways. The first thing about it is of course the Nikko badge. If you didn't know it, you could hardly have guessed that it is a Nikko. It is probably the most un-Nikko like rc car ever released by Nikko.
The box it comes in is also unusual. Or I should have said boxes, cos it does come in 2 boxes (kit 1 and 2), which you can purchase separately. The design of the boxes is decidedly low profile. You can't find any photos or artwork of the car on the boxes. There is only a blue silhouette of a car and blue words on the beige box of kit 1. On the box of kit 2 you don't even get the blue silhouette.
On the top of kit 1 it says “A conversion Kit that turns Dandy Dash, Super Sprint into Brat”. On the side it says “NEW BREED, BRAT WITH PROFESSIONAL SPECIFICATIONS DRIVEN BY TEAM NIKKO WORKS”. Unfortunately it seems the Brat is also the last of its breed for Nikko.
On the box of kit 2 it says “This Works Version Kit is set as Works Uses Parts Please use with Brat Conversion Kit”. I guess what it means is that this kit 2 is supposed to work with kit 1, and that the parts may not be fully compatible with an unmodified Dandy Dash or Super Sprint. But I'm not sure about it.
Back to the car itself. The Brat is a belt drive 4WD buggy. It has an FRP pan chassis reinforced by 2 aluminium rods running longitudinally. You can use either a 6 or 7 cell saddle type battery. It doesn't take stick type batteries. You also need an ESC, preferably a small one, as space inside the car is rather limited. It has 3 ball diffs: front, rear and centre (torque limiter), aluminium shocks, universals (I think also aluminium), F& R stabilizers. You can't really make adjustments to the suspension geometry, so it's probably not a good choice for the racing type. Nevertheless it is a pretty competent buggy and is a joy to run around.

You should have listened to me and start building the Brat with the kit 1 you've got :D It won't be the full version, but should be close enough.
I just noticed that there is no instruction manual included in conversion kit 2. You just have to rely on the one in kit 1. This suggests that the kit 2 is indeed not intended to be used without kit 1, which in turn means the chance of your finding a stand alone kit 2 is seriously slim  If you really want to get one, it would be easier if you go get a full set and sell the kit 1 that you've got, or keep it as spare parts. :)

back to the brat for a second... i owned one but mine was different.. it had yellow rims and cage and the body did not have wings on it it was alot more sleek looking. i was very young when my grand father bought it for me. the only thing i have left from that car is the motor. the rest of the car is some where in the garbage dump. i wish i still had that car just for sentamental reasons, the sickest part is that my next door neighbor owned the bandit and we could not race them together because of the transmiter conflicting one another. we were so young and did not know what crystals were for. he would play with the bandit until his batteries were gone and i then would play with the brat. Wow this forum just brought me back so many years. If some one has the brat i am refering to not the one shown in the photo, and is willing to part with it please let me know.

hi everyone
i have just resurrected my old nikko super sprint. it is a brilliant car especially for its age. mine is about 15years old but its hardly been used much attall, just sitting in a cupboard for years. it also has all the stuff in that brat conversion as standard. I went out and got a new ni-mh 8.4v batt and away i went. i ran it in the yard at work which is loose gravel pretty firm and fairly bumpy. it still went just as fast as ever i estimate about 30mph,ish. i did however manage to do some minor damage which was soon repaired. my driving is a bit rusty though and i managed to get the few puddles i really wanted to avoid, resulting in a very wet/dirty car which was spotless. now im faced with a strip down clean/lubricate rebuild, after which i will never use the car in the wet again. the main problem is getting parts. i really dont want to break it as a bodge may be the only repair possible. this has got me back interested in r/c cars and im now looking into getting a 1/8th petrol 4wd off roader. any advice on obtaining parts for the super sprint would be grately appreciated.
cheers

Hey Jason,
It's Jason (Bender) from the Tamiya club here ;)
I use Bender on most forums except this one.
Didn't you get a new belt in the No.1 conversion kit? Mine came with a new belt so I assume you are supposed to use that.

Hello Jason,are you Jason Wakefield?
;)Yep!
If it helps, the belt with the Brat is made by bridgestone and it's marked 288mxl4.8 - which means mxl type, 4.8mm wide.
I'm not sure if 288 is the number of teeth or the "pitch" of the belt. There is also another marking "209J" which may or may not represent the number of teeth.
Small parts and Bearings in Brisbane often have these mxl belts and pulleys (handy for other cars with mxl belts like Bulldogs, Zerdas, Cats etc) but I couldn't find the right one.
Here's the link: Small Parts and Bearings (http://www.smallparts.com.au/cgi-bin/store/datafill.pl?product=Belts-Timing-2.500mmPitch-T2.5&firstitem=41&mc=T2.5TimingBeltsandPulleys&Step=3&search_1=&search_2=&search_3=&Show_Searches=0=post)
Gates is the main manufacturer of these (and other) belts in the world - not sure where you'd find a stockist of them in Qld though. I have a Gates catalogue but I can't post them as the file size is too big:(

The Brat conversion kit 2 was never sold in Singapore. What we did in Singapore was to buy the conversion kit 2 parts seperately. They were the Upworks motor, white nylon suspension arms, gold universal joints, upgraded purple shocks and the harden gear diffs set. I never remember that the Brat had ball diff upgrades, all the Nikko team drivers had special parts that was not available to public..those parts were the white nylon front and rear gear boxes, and nylon shock tower mounts to mount the carbon graphite front and rear shock towers..with the carbon fibre shock towers, the Brat's suspension geometry was totally changed..it became a lot more adjustable and had the looks of the more conventional buggies of that time like the Top Force, Lazer ZXR, Yokomo YZ10..etc..In 1992 Nikko had a prototype called the Brat 2. It looked very much like the Yokomo YZ10...it ran a couple of races in Japan, but sadly after a short while, the japanese Nikko team gave up racing completely....i've had buggies from Yokomo, Kyosho, Schumacher and Tamiya at that time and the Nikko Brat was one of my favourite buggies..it was so simple to set up and the car's handling was superb. The only problem was that the car's ride height is very low, so it's chassis often slap pretty hard after landing from a big jump...but overall it's a great buggy...

Uhm, can anyone tell me why my Brat looks different?
Im sorry to dissapoint you but what you there is not the Brat we are talking about.Perhaps Nikko wanted to attch that name to your car because of the competition model the team drivers used to race?? Who knows?

I believe what you have is the same thing (chassis wise) as this Radio Shack buggy.

That NIKKO Brat looks like it uses the NIKKO Alienator chassis... which is nothing unusual.
Here's a link about the alienator that you might find neat:

And here's a large picture of an Alienator that I converted to use bluetooth:

It's got Nikko wheels, but the only two variants, Dandy Dash and Super Sprint both have 4WD via a Bridgestone belt front to rear and that is a shaft?

I have 2 Dashes and a Super Sprint, super is rarer, although a nice boxed dash will fetch a decent price, well would before the credit crunch anyway.
Parts are hard to find, so beware breaking anything, timescale is 1989-1990 or so

Not to drag up an old thread, but I just ran across a Nikko "Big Dude" RC truck. It seems that it won't turn (it will go forward & reverse). It seems to have a very simplistic steering survo. I'm wondering if anyone knows of what I can do for a replacement.

purpletimbo
09-18-2009, 04:48 AM
It is a 1/16, and apparently from others with the same problem, the fronts are a one off size, so either find one with good ones, or consider other rims, reckon the QD 1/4 Tamiyas might not be far off?
SavedONE
09-18-2009, 04:09 PM
-if you just want to make it run, you could try cutting off the old tires, and either CA the rims into another tire/wheel, (tho, I had suspension breakage on mine, w/ the stock fronts, so the extra leverage wouldn't be good), or, make a set of tires for it, racers do it all the time:wave:
