I was out with my friend yeasterday at the high school parking lot trying out his new HPI sedan and we where having a lot of fun. The all of a sudden these kids drive up in their SUV and tried to run over his car, lucky us they missed but then they oppened their windoes and started yelling obscenities and calling us big babies and we should go back to kindergarden and they wouldn't stop circling us untill we started to walk to our car. man I wish I had a baseball bat with me, man I'm so pissed off! Damn teenagers!!

Generally speaking people can be pricks.
For me though, I generally don't have many problems with stuff like this. I happen to be a former collegiate hammer thrower and am still a fairly stout 260 pounds.
I've had run in's with people when in my road bike. I've bee hit twice in the back by people thowing full soda's at me. One of them stopped at the top of a hill for me to give me crap, when I stopped and they saw I was almost as big as the three of them combined they jumped back in their car and took off. The other time I actually caught the guys at a stop light, they had rolled up their windows and were scared to death. I just give them a quick clap of the hands, a flying bird and took down their liscense plate.
Of course a nice cresent wrench down the side of the vehicle as they circle you would do wonders for their self esteem, not that I would ever advocate violence. :p

Wait till they get out then ram them at full speed. :p Really they are the ones that need to go back to kindergarden for saying stupid crap. Reminds me of little kids, stupid heads! lol :D

lol this brings back some good memories, once me and my friend were off roading down at a local church that had a really nice grass/dirt feild and these kids drove by us once and yelled some words i cant say on this board and calling us little kids and stuff and drove off. Needless to say they came back and before they could say something i gave them the birdy and they got all P/O'ed and drove away. LOL it was pretty funny, my dad was laughing when i told him about it.

yea im 15 and i deal with people like that all the time..you kindof have to just sit there and think to yourself that they perobably do drugs and stuff so they just do the stuff they do to be cool. I wouldnt worry bout it...but you could always "spill" some nitro on their car and "accidently" drop a lit match on it LOL. Ii bet you atleast one of them has (at one time) saw a rc car they liked and bugged the crap out of their parents to get one.

WAAAAAAAA YES WE ARE WE ARE!!! :D
Seriously though, retaliation will seem like it will make you feel better, but it won't.
Look at it this way, it doesn't matter if you were RC'ing, skateboarding, or playing marbles on the sidewalk, bullies feel the only way to justify their existence is to prey on the weak and defenseless. The best you can get out of it is to rise above it.

If theyd have gotten outta the car I would have kindly shoved my foot up their ass ;) I havent had anyone bug me about driving an r/c car, and usually theres about 3 or 4 of us (including my dad) when we're out driving somewhere we have to drive to.
I too wish you had a baseball bat handy :D

I have never had someone "mock" me about driving my cars... most likely because I was at an RC specific track...lol. If someone said something like that when I was on the drivers stand... I would break out laughing.
if anyone ever says RC cars are stupid... just agree with them... say... "Yea... I know... they are really dumb." If you agree... they "think" they won... when in fact they didnt. (make sure you have a smile on your face when you say it)

Don't sweat it, Sasso. You were out having fun and staying out of trouble with a hobby vehicle that you paid for, while those kids probably were driving mommy or daddy's SUV. It wasn't long enough ago for me to forget how it felt to finally be able to drive. I do, however, remember how many guys were total jerks behind the wheel of a car. Interestingly, most of them were total wuss cases when not in a group inside a vehicle.
Thankfully my best friend and I haven't had anything like that happen to us. It's okay, though; we have options. We have cell phones with which to call the police. We both are quite adept at driving well enough to catch up to any jerks to get their license plate number so we can contact the kids' parents. There was one time when we were just hanging out in front of my house and some kids drove by and tossed beer bottles out at us. The parents of the kid who was driving the car weren't happy at all to find us on their doorstep, standing behind two rather intimidating-looking sheriff's deputies :D
kitty, that is the best way to retaliate. Im only 14 now and its easy to pick on me.
me beeing 14 leaves me all to vulnerable to any situation wheather it be assault for my car, beeing ran over by a car, or anything of that amtter a 14 yr old cant do anything about it....thats why i dont feel safe even though its a 1 out of 10 chance it will happen at all.
and Sasso when you and your friend got in the car yall should have tailgated them to give em a scare, and cut out fake guns outa cardboard and "prentend" to pull em out LOLand if they called the cops on you, youd have nothing to be caught with lol, but if it were me i just would have done what kitty did.....especailly since they tried to run over your friends car which wasnt cheap im assuming.
or if it was a nitro car...yall should have lead them around the parking lot till their car ran outa gas and laugh in their faces :p

Just dont listen.. now If they do something else than shouting then its another thing.
I just dont get it why do you americans are so agressive That kind of things would never hapen over here. Not that we are the safe country, we are really really far from that, but things like that just dont hapen, people over here just dont pick on some one just for fun like you guys here if some one picks on you is because more "serious" matters.

I'm in my mid-20s and unfortunately most people view this hobby as childish. I do my racing at a track, my gear is too expensive to bash around with. People can talk sh*t all they want, i'm a grown man and if they want to test me they can.

I think this depends on where you're from in America. If you came to my neighborhood to pick on me while i'm minding my own business, you'd either have a knife pulled on you or some collateral damage on your vehicle. I don't play. I'm not a violent person but I will defend myself.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ actually say u rob a store with an airsoft / bb gun...you get in the same trouble as you would if you did it with a real gun. you get the same punishment ( except for shootin someone) when you point a BB gun at someone as you would if you had a real gun. :(

If you have a reasonably fast nitro car, you should challenge them to a drag race over a short distance. A nitro car could easily smoke an Expedition over a short distance, and if the cops come, I think it's much more likely that the kids in the real car would get in trouble.

Yeah, I have to take all this all the time because i am a home schooler and some people think that If your not in school that your dumb and need to be in school, when infact I am smarter than most kids in my grade. I just blow them off and think nothing of it.
I don't believe in "giving them the birdy" or "having a base ball bat handy" or "taking a cresent wrench to their car". But I will defend my self, and have taken a lot of martial arts classes and would pity the fool who fights me.:D:cool:
And I have not had any one bother me about my r/c car (yet) and when they do pick on me, I hope they have thought it through before they do.:D

If you really think about it, our RCs are toys. Just a different type of toy. A bit more complicated one. As we get older our toys get more expensive either it be RCs or real cars.
By the way there always will be pricks and idiots that will always try to mock and make fun. As Human Natures sets in, people like to mock and make fun of others to try to make themselves feel better and make them selves look more superior or such..
You should just have your fun and ignore em as long as they don't mess with your stuff. If they ask you why you spend so much on a toy then you should ask them why they spend so much on their vices (drinking/Smoking/drugs/other crap).

i am 14 and i normally get trouble from other kids saying its childish and stuff and then me and my friends do something cool like donuts or we drag race, the guys that insulted us become interested and start asking questions. then if they are older like they normally are they are now on your side.

/\ Word 'dat, on the last one. People get very offended when you call their RC's a toy, but they shouldn't.
The reason it bothers some of you is people already make you feel "guilty" for playing. This is a part of the sickness of humanity: we have forgetten how to enjoy life and to play, and anyone who does is childish and frivolous.
Most women are at the core of this, sadly. "If it's not about me, well then IT MUST SUCK." Fortunately my wife is not one of them, she built and runs her own GT.
Don't let your ego cloud the clarity of the situation: one, there is NOTHING wrong with playing. Take it from an old fart, it keeps you young. :D Two, we call out trucks, bikes, ATV's, boats, guns, and other things toys, so YES, RC's ARE TOYS. There is not a single thing wrong with that.
Just walk away knowing you know something about life that they do not. :D

More power to her, for sure! It's not most women - just the "high maintenance" egotistical ones.
Sure, I wear some makeup, but that's about as far as it goes. To me, nail polish remover is something I borrow from my mum once in a blue moon when I get CA on a finger. I spend more on my dog (my baby) and my trucks than I do on myself.

Regardless of what type, guys have gotta have their toys, for some its real cars, for some its electronic equiment, and for most of us its rc if not a combination. I generally dont think of rc's as toys and get a bit annoyed if someone calls them toys. I think of them as a hobby. A toy is like a radioshack car, you get it at the store go out and run it right away, finish running it throw it somewhere until the next time you use it. I consider a "real" rc car a hobby, because you take it home as a kit, build it, take it to the track, try to find a good setup, pamper and make fine adjustments to your nitro or electric motors and batteries. Then go home clean everything off, maitnence everything that needs it, such as cleaning bearings, cutting comms ect. I tend to think of rtrs as toys, but some people who actually do the stuff that we do to our kits make them a hobby, or some people who are into the hobby just buy them because they dont have the time to build a car. IMO our hobby is pretty much playing with a toy, but we make it into a hobby with the competetivness we have and the work that we put into it.

I dont think we are babies but I think that we are arrogant. Just go to a local hobby shop that has weekly races and just watch everyone trying to be billy bad a$$. I am thirty years old and I have a hard time talking to people about RC because I feel I am well read and well experienced and when I talk to people at the hobby shops I find out alot of them mainly salesmen do not have a clue what they are talking about. I always ask you guys and gals on this site because I get truthful answers because most of you own or have owned the vehicle I am talking about.
As for your situation I would just let it go, retaliation is only going to get you hurt and depending what part of the country you live in your family might also get hurt. Enjoy what you do on this earth and dont let anyone make you feel bad about your hobby.

Ahh those kids who bully you are just fools. If they were not driving their moms car, they would probably be trying to ask you a million questions about your car. Believe me everytime I go out with my truck or sedans, they are magnets to people asking you million of questions. This my friend is the reward for being a KID in a big man's body..Attention. Ignore them, and don't get hurt by retaliating. If they get violent just call the cops if possible.
OUr rc's are especial toys that not everyone can have. hence the jealousy. Be proud you own one or a fleet and that you are not out there wasting your money in stupid things like Drugs, or even worst wasting your time with nothing better to do than be a bully in your friend's SUV.

Ive been lucky in that I mostly get people gocking at my cool rc car rather then ridiculing it. But if someone were to be harassing me about it I would simply call the cops.. Especially if they were driving around me like that.. Then I really wouldnt be lying when I gave the cops a discription of the car and maybe a license plate number and told them they were doing donuts in the parking lot around people.
At the least the cops will have there eyes open for the car and the people will probably drive off like wussies when they see me hit 911...:D Losers like that are always scared of a pencil and paper writing down licence plate numbers!

Thanks a lot for your thoughtful responses and support guys, and gal! I felt down and maybe too old for this hobby, but I'm ok now. I was just detailing my collection of RC cars, especially the one I have that is over 14 years old and still runs! All I can say is that I feel like I love this hobby even more now! Their ignorance and hatred has re-enforced my love for this hobby and I'm damn sure that this is what I was born to do and enjoy for the rest of my life...I'm going online and buying another RC car right now!!:) :) :)

IM 15 and live in Australia and on many ocassions i have had ppl bag and pay me out about my car.
But that compared to the number of ppl that spend half an hour or so watching an come and ask us questions.
But the two funniest times was when me and my freind were mukin around on the street and these little beaven 12 yo come along and were payin out our cars, and we told em to rack off so he ran over and kicked my INferno mp7.5 LOL. man he was jumping around and crying he called his mum and she came and he said that we drove it into his foot, his mum took him to the police station and filed an assult charge, only prob is my friend was recording our whole bashing session and he got it on tape.
The other time was this like 17 yo that just got his license was sayin how *** we play with toys and we were like race you to the round the roundabout and back, we lined up and he stalled it aS HE TRIED to smoke us offf the line, my car was back b4 he was at the round about. IT WAS SO FUNNY.

I'm 23 and yes, I consider all my RC's toys. Toys in the sense that they are playthings. Some people have jet skis, snowmobiles, ATV's, motorcycles... those are all toys too. They are to go out with your buddies, or by yourself if that be the case, and have a good time over an afternoon.
As far as people hassleing me about playing with "toys", I've never had any problems with it. More often than not, people stop to watch and ask questions. Guys with Jeeps seem to be drawn to monster trucks. I've actually gone bashing with a few (real) off-road types who owned Maxx's. They just saw me playing in the park, stopped to talk, then went and got their trucks.
The import crowd like touring cars. I had a fellow stop to check out me and a buddy running in a parking lot. We got to talking, turns out we knew a few of the same people from a few local car groups. He bought a touring car that summer. Now, it's pretty common to break out the R/C touring cars at a garage day or a get together with a couple car guys.
The only grief I get is from the pre-teens. 12-15 years olds always seem to have some type of superiority complex. They stop to watch... then tell you that their dad or friend has a gas car that goes so much faster than mine (I run all electric) and ask why I run crappy electric cars. They're harmless and uneducated... I probibly was the same way when I was their age.

damn, some of you people get hassled about RC? hope it just not that you are letting yourself be abused that way. never seen or heard anything like this. but it is america after all;)
i dont consider RC a toy unless its radio shack style. its a hobby and for people out to perform its a sport.
biggest issue ive ever gotten was driving back from south beach one after noon a little over a year ago with my friend in his Honda Civic. we pull up to a stop light and suddenly this turd looking explorer has an arm sticking out the half rolled down windows giving us the thumbs down. we pulled up to the car and it was one of the cheap ass older 2wd Explorer's covered in stickers that say things like "4wd" and "SVT". anyway, we see the car is filled to the max with 5 Abercrombie and Fitch wannabe guys proably in their 20's and not one was even wearing a shirt.
so now that we are right beside them they look a bit worried now. we ask "whats the problem" after a bit of stuttering the front passenger says "it looks like an SI, but its not". lol to make a long story short kinda did some nice civil verbal ownage on them."take a look, and listen to its. this is more than an SI". they started responding but i vut them off. "youre car says 4wd, fast, hot and SVT. but its not. its gay, but not as gay as 5 shirtless males crammed into it." ended up pulling in front of them after the light and slowed to a snales pace and kept them there behind us for atleast 8 minutes. :) all good since we were waiting on some1 to get ready so we could go somewhere. fun stuff.
heehee, that felt good.:D :p

One hassle I had was when I was bashing at a local public school playground. Some 18 year old or so guys were playing basketball while me and my friend were trying to start our cars. We had pullstart engines back then. They would make fun of us when we were starting it because they thought it looked like we were doing something "inappropriate" (if you know what I mean). So, I got my car started and showed them what it could do. Then they got intrested in it. And they asked to drive it. So I pointed them to my LHS.

Luckily I have not been bothered before. I have had people stop their cars to watch for a while and people stop and ask me questions. The only problems I have had were 8 year old kids asking me if they could try my Tmaxx out when I ran it at the local school up my street. They expect to watch you run it when they gather around in a 10' circle and want me to run it in their circle.
I guess a 6'5" guy is too intimidating for people to stop and yell crap at me :o
I am currently having an arguement with this guy on my friend's forum. He thinks spending $800 on an rc is a waste, but $800 watch is a very worthwhile investment.
