View Full Version : MGT bottom end sucks

I would like to get more bottom end out of my MGT, I have yet to pop a wheelie. Its weird though cause its a fast as my friends Savage 25 througout the whole powerband but his 25 will pop wheelies. The MGT is already lean and is running pretty hot. I know i could accomplish wheelies with gearing but i wish i could do it without sacraficing top end.
It just doesnt have the torque???

Anyone else have an MGT with sluggish bottom end?

Just move some of the weight off the front off the truck(ie receiver pack) and that will help without having to change the gearing. That, or get a Savage:D

i'm with boxer! get a savage! or ig you got some cash drop the new sirio .27 into that beast. i heard that crazy mill drops right into an mgt. and i'm sure with 3.1 hp at 39,000 rpm you'll be doing wheelies until your diffs unload!!

put a couple pre load spacers on your rear shocks, and remove one from the verry front 2 shocks.

and doing the reciever pack switch to the rear should help alot more. additonaly the pipe is a major factor in the low end performence. id say if you can get a sweet low end pipe it should help alot too.

I am instaling a picco P3 monster .26 in my mgt. I have to dremel on the engine mount a bit to allow the wide spacing of the .26 bolt pattern, but it should go smothly.

ill be back with a review in about 2 weeks of the picco.26 P3 monster

Actually, yea, a pipe designed for low end should help too. The low gearing will also and taking a hit on top end speed isnt as bad as it seems. I have a lil taller than stock gearing in my Savage and a pipe, it pulls wheelies from a dead stop on pavment or just flips over back wards and slides on its lid.

Are you sure the engine isn't so lean that its not producing good power?

yes, its tuned where it should be. If i go much richer it will be bogged and if i lean it out it starves of fuel and will cut out, so the tune is decent.

Port matching the header to the exhaust port will do wonders, and it's all free.:D  Finding a good tuned pipe will do wonders also, but at an expense.

Other porting can be done to recover some lost power, but if your not experienced I would just stick to matching the header. When port matching the header to the exhaust port, don't forget to trim the header gasket also.;)

One more thing you can play around with is the distance between the header and pipe and won't cost a dime either.

I'm big on free upgrades!:D

No engine is going to pop wheelies out of the box. My MGT has plenty of low end with the stock engine but doesnt pull wheelies. You want wheelies then change to lower gearing and a more torqy pipe. The MGT is made for all around performance not to pop wheelies all day....

no rcracer ur verry wrong my t-maxx 2.5 and all my friends t-maxx's all pull/pulled wheelies stock and modified. they also pull wheelies in reverse.

the mgt wheelys out of my picco.26 box.
and it does it verry nicely thanks.:D

hey, the cooling head on my picco.26 is one sharp little bugger. during break in I got some nice cuts on the hands.

Im sorry but that is not true. Wheelies in reverse? With the Tmaxx itsw possible stock but with the MGT that weighs atleast 4 lbs more trying to wheelie stock with no change in gearing I find somewhat hard to believe......

With a Picco .26 than anything is possbile...Stock MGT is close with very fine tuning but not close enough......

Why don't you simply try stiffer shock springs especially in the rear. The stock spings are very soft.

I have put a few spacers on 2 of the shocks in the rear but i cant get any on the 2 front ones in the rear...Make sense? I caa get them on 2 but not the other 2 becuase of the stupid shock reservoirs.

Actually, a soft set up might help by allowing more weight transfer undercertain conditions to allow more rear traction. On rough paved surfaces my savage wheelies just by accl. But on loose surfaces I have to pump and time the rebound by using the brakes and then hitting the gas just after... usually pops the front end right up.

i have run over 10 tmaxx 2.5's...none of htem can pop a wheelie from a standstill...none of them

what is with this fascination of doing a wheelie....its fun for 2 tanks of fuel...then when u go try some hill climbing...one mess up..end over end u go...racing around the parkin lot with ur friends..give full throttly...flip over...my Old Monster pirate i had wheelied all over the place..the most aggrivating thing in the world

There cool until you break something. I have to admit its fun doing it but after awhile I find it quite pointless to be doing wheelies all day.....I have my MGT wheels on the ground and thats where I want them to be....

Yea my .26 maxx wheelies too much...i put MGT wheels on it...still wheelies...moved weight forward ..still does it..It does WAY too much damage. If you dont have a wheelie bar..then gear up and use that tourqe to give you some speed. You have to remember..when you wheelie when you race (with freinds or at a track) you loose off-the line traction and speed. Keep all 4 on the groun..unless ur jumping!

personally, i love popping wheelies! yeah it kills your starts if you're racing, but its so damn cool :D
