Welcome everyone to the Twelfth Best Paint Competition!!

The best paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at 12:00 AM February 15 at midnight CST.
Restrictions: NONE (April will be the first month with restrictions. I will post the restrictions during the march competitions).
The best paint competition is an opportunity for people to express their unbounded imaginations on a clear recycled 2 liter coke bottle. With the exception of restricted months, any body may be entered in this competition by any member of RCZone. Each body will be judged based on 3 criteria:

1) Design: How well does the design fit/flow on the body? Is it visually appealing? How are the color choices? Originality does not count, but naturally something that every painter has done will not score as high as something unique and new in skills used or design.
2) Execution: Regardless of how complex or difficult it is, how well is it executed? Are there paint bleeds? Are the lines straight (or correctly curved)? Are their obvious mistakes? Finger prints? How well executed are the fades and other basic painting techniques? etc.
3) Difficulty: How hard was this body to paint? Is it one color? Is the entire thing 5mm checkers with 4 different colors in each square? Are the mask lines through difficult areas of the body (ie, wing mounts or stadium truck beds). It may be 2 colors, but is one marbled? Is one color a candy that requires a special backing technique? This is where experience as a painter helps the most.
The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body. A chassis is not required, the body is being judged.

The winning bodies may appear in Radio Control Car Action!!

RULES for Best Paint:

1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.

Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
Inspiration (could be another paint job).
And of course, a body.

This month Rahxephon will be judging the Best paint competition.

In the following two weeks (February 15th through February 29th) we will hold the Twelfth Street/Race Competition. Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!

GOOD LUCK

yea....i know there are some bleeds in there (which is why im no longer using masking tape  ) but it doesnt hurt to see what i get as a score on my latest street theme:

its an
HPI Honda Integra Type R 190mm body
with:
Metallic red backed with black
pearl white
silver
Pearl white again but backed with black

as masks i used regular masking tape
Inspiration was just my imagination except the pearl white on black part, that was inspried by another body that i saw a while back.

How do you get those stickers on so strait, like on the grill. I have tried doing the windex thing but it seems to slide to much and i can never get the sticker to stay once i get it where i want it.

i have bad news, apperntly i wont be able to enter this body in the competion b/c of the work of art that is on the hood, in that picture you cant see it but the one that i posted it has been updated and more has been painted you can see the left breast of the goddess aphridtite, but some on this board see it as vulger and inapropriate and pornography.

im really starting to get sick of all this PC BS this is a family board i know but who wouldnt want there children to see the staue of david?

my post has been deleted a twice now and this one probally will too, hence the reason this body wont be entered this month or possibly ever........

im really pissed off at the mods at rc car action right now... i just hope its not mabman or haunted thats doing this b/c ihave alot of respect for them and i was hoping they would be able to look past a peice of skin, mabey they can help me out but im not going to censor art to please the few that might possibly offended by a friggen nipple

tmaxxer, i cant believe someone finds ART derogitory, its one thing to have a car with the ******* hood from the tom green car, but this was supposed to be a beatiful girl that was an art piece not a porn show, i sure hop its not haunted or mab man cuz they are both great painters themselves, and whats the loss of a couple people cuz there narrow minded.......get over it people, weve all seen it b4, and if its a parent of a kid, dont worry me being a kid myself i have seen a nipple, and your kid probably has too,its no biggy when it comes to ART

I disagree. My opinion is, if you aren't active on the board, your car should be pulled from the comp. The competition exists to reward active members. If you miss him, email him. It's not like he's dead.

It's been so long between posts, I forget what I supposed to do. But here goes:

The body is a protoporn (Protoform) Stratus 190 mm.

I used fascolor and createx paint. Faschange blue in the front.

The masks for the drips and checks are custom cut vinyl.

Inspired by the fact that checks always look great but are a real pain to do. I always swear it's the last checker paint job I'll do!

All these bodies look great, some are even extrordinary. I'm working on my next body and I've really had to dig deep to improve my "game"!!!!! I would not want to be in the judges shoes!!!!

On a more somber note what happen to Mr Light Beer??????? I know his last post as mharmy was.......well, Angry!!!! rs made mention of a web site he posted, is that bad? I see all kinds of websites posted on the board!!! and one other thing, if his entry stands (it was entered before his untimely banning) and he actually wins the comp, does that mean he'll be reinstated so he can judge the next comp??????????? (that is how it works right winner judges next comp???) just a thought!!

Pactra Racing Cans: Rally Green backed w/ Sprint White, Metallic Green backed w/ Indy Silver, Window trim was painted with Indy Silver to illustrate chrome trim on the side windows and Outlaw Black.

Digitally custom designed, transfered to "Con-Tact" kitchen drawer liners, and hand-cut masks.

My interpretation of Marvel Comic's Scorpion in Spiderman Series Theme or "Sting" prior to his, "Crow"-esque, Black days. Only decals used are the limited ones that came with the body: lights, grills, door handles, and lettering.

Too many excellent paint jobs!

pumpkinfish, I like the way you wraped the flag around the bodies contours.

Yosh, good to see your work again. Great job and love the colors.

Last view.. really ;)

I purposely left the spoiler unpainted to easily see the "Stinger" on the trunk. Since i race this body, i had no choice but to mount it to make the car handle well.

Yosh, what did you do to the wheels? Are they stickers you printed off of your computer or someother method? I have been thinking of what the best solution would be for the plain aero wheel look.

Thanks MaxxThrasher!!!

Everyones bodies are looking great. My painting is feeling rather bland. lol

The budlight issue: The rules state that anyone may enter a body in the competition. However, because the winner must have access to post the results I have no choice but you disqualify his amazing work. I do not have the power to reinstate him, and banning members is not something taken lightly by moderators so i am sure it was for a very good reason.

Im cleaning up the thread a little. I got rid of some unnessesary arguing and will be getting rid of inelligable bodies shortly.

Im still hoping to get something done by this saturday (its been way to long since ive posted my work).

Hey Yosh, thats awesome looking!!! if i had something like that i go with something blue and charcoal... but i love that scheme!!! great job dude!!!

Yosh
02-11-2004, 05:01 AM
Thanks for the comments. Keep 'em comin'. It's the only way to better myself and geared up for the next shell.

TRF... I'd have to try those colors one of these days. Although charcaol maybe a little too close to the carpet color i race on at my LHS. Parts of my car might blend into it, talk about "camo". lol I'll just have to paint an empty 2liter bottle and see. :)

pumpkinfish... I've tried so many things to freshen up aero dish wheels.

-Those are stickers that i printed on avery- full sheet, white labels and laminated with 3" wide clear packing tape to protect it from tire traction compound. Disadvantage, they can peel off after awhile and if you don't premount the paper label onto an extra piece of some sort of vinyl mask, the sticker will not peel off cleanly. It will leave some residue on the rims that can easily be rubbed off, and that's one debris you don't want to have to pick out by hand off an ozite carpet track.

-I've also drawn on them with a sharpie marker and dremeled out the "positive space" i drew - leaving the "negative space" which would be the spokes. Problem i came across with that is you have to be sure not to dremel out the supporting structural spines of the wheel, thus limiting your spoke design and number, and ofcourse structurally weaker than leaving it whole.

-I've also dremeled it partially to have more choices over the spoke design and number. Then i would spray the scratched surface after maticulously masking the foam/rubber- if they have been mounted already- of the wheel with black to make it look like it was cutout all the way through. Again, even though they are not dremeled all the way through, they are still structurally weaker then the ones not dremeled.

-For aerodish wheels, like those on your buggy i see on this post, i would suggest cutting extra pieces of lexan with an Olfa circle cutter and match the size of your rims, mask and paint the design on the inside like you would normally, and mount it directly on your wheel- painted side in. Your axle mount sticks out further than most sedan foam aerodish wheels because most sedan wheels have the wheelnuts recessed inside the rims. Disadvantage, you'll be limited to the brands of wheels/rims that have the rims almost flat or with minimal concavity and the wheelnuts not recessed in.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the mini-tutorial and the lengthy read.

Laters.

Here is my first entry in the paint comp.
The scheme consist of:
Protoform 190mm Stratus
XXX Main mask
Pactra Fluorescent Blue
Pactra Fluorescent Green
Pactra Fluorescent Backing
Pactra Sprint White

I haven't trimmed the body yet or added all the stickers, but you should get the general idea. I took these pics in different light to try to show of the fading of the gren and blue. It is something you have to see in person under the sun to fully appreciate.

The body is the new Stratus 190mm form HPI

The paint is fascolor black, silver, white and yellow. Createx transparent blue and Alclad chrome.

I finally have the results in, please bear in mind that this competition was really difficult to judge because of all the great entries from painters who I feel are in close level with each other. I've spent on average roughly about 20-25 minutes meticulously looking and judging each of the cars entered. Please note that it would help a lot in the judge's part if atleast 2-4 pics were provided for each car showing two different angles. I had to score some of the cars slightly lower than what might've been expected simply because the pictures did not do the body justice--it did not show all the hardwork that has been put into the body.

I would also like to remind the participants that the scores I assigned to your car bodies may not necessarily be an agreeable one but nonetheless one that has been made by the judge; if you disagree, that is your opinion which I'm totally fine with. Just please disagree respectfully. Besides, we are doing this just for the fun we get from it.

Congratulation to all the participants for making this a very difficult time to judge, you all did a really good job.

Indeed though, congrats everyone and thanks Rahxephon for your efforts and timeliness, 'twas truly a stiff competition this time around.
I commend Rahxephon's photo comments, it's about time someone mentioned it :) it's sometimes difficult to analyze a completed car because the image is too small, out of focus, severely backlit, or some combination of those or other flaws.

Right, it's back to the painting table for me!

Cool, I scored higher this time than the last competition i entered and the critisms were great, thanks all and congrats to everyone. Thanks Rax for judging and getting results posted as quickly as you could.

biker dude 6.. ---Thanks for noticing. I wasn't going for realism, i was just experimenting on how less boring i can make aerodish wheels to look and i wanted the rims to coincide with the theme of the body. Though after racing the body and finally peeling off the stickers, the flourecent dishes actually highlighted the body even more. But it still looked bland with just the plain-nonspoked dish.
