Hey. Im looking at possibly getting a new storm rtr and I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for in terms of durability and stuff like that. Also, how does this buggy handle rough conditions. I wont be racing it just bashing it around with my friends with there monster trucks.
Thanks

I would totaly agree with that my front is way to droopy. I set my toe at the hub to .5 and toe at the diff to 2 so efeectivily im thinkin that a total of 3 but no board to make sure. I'm glad the 7.5s fit wish I would have waited I have the fioroni hubs.

Hey guys i raced last night, and it took me the qualfying rounds and main to learn how to drive with my new OS. But after the races i drove around and i was becoming faster and faster.
We have a big race coming up in Sept 5-7, The TumbleWeed Classic its $30 for 1 class and 15 for each one after that. So any of you guys that are close to New Mexico or live in New Mexico come down to ABQ. Heres the link rcdirttrack.com and follow the links to the tumbleweed classic.

I am running a storm pro with RB S7. Very happy with it except for the Rear bulkhead ( broke twice ). I am just wondering if any of you guys use torsen. If so, what brand/how much and where to get online. I know fioniri or something like that is that best, but may I ask if the ofna torsen for hyper or 9.5 can fit in. I am thinking of a CMB Evo2-R Buggy. Anyone have any comments on it? and whats will be the effect if I use a buggy engine for my onroad picco 1/8. Thanks!!!!

Integra, yeah thoes are nice bearings but they run like $100 bux, and i wished i had that kinda money, but im a broke high school student looking for a job. I just wanted to see if these bearings would make any differenece in performace other that the stock ones.
Snitzer firioni make the only one for the storm i can think of and they cost alot of money too!

Give the blue ones a shot, Really most bearings are very good with some extra TLC
Fironi also makes a rear bulkhead brace for you issue there as well.

Do you have any info when the +1degree front B block be available? or any way increase front caster angle?

B blocks for the Fioroni Storm conversion will be out as soon as possible after the Italian national holiday.
I don't know of a way to increase the antisquat in the meantime.

Thanks garen for the info....
this maybe be a stupid question but will there be a C block +2 degree??? I ask this because b4 the conversion I was running +3 degrees upfront and was very happy with that...

How does the Storm Pro compare to the Hyper 7 pro and the Inferno Mp 7.5? I'm looking for a weekend racer with durable parts and tons of features thats around $450
Can anyone tell me the stock needle settings for the GS storm b01 engine

Maxxcrazy - w/ the storm pro you get a better bang for the buck, better quality material and what not. Take a look at some of the pics here on the site

Spurdog,
I was having a hard time getting my rear end to take hold until I added more rear toe-in. Give that a try if you haven't already. My Storm likes neutral toe-in up front and 2 degrees in the rear.

I set it to the factory when I built it. I will try to add more. It mostly comes around on me when I come out of the corner. Maybe more front bite will help?

Set it to max. rear toe-in thats for sure....
is it coming around out of the corner on power? if so you may want to use a lighter center diff oil <--- reduces rear wheel spin unloads to the front (easier to drive but less agressive) IMHO
have you tried 3k/5k/1k???
how much front kickup you using?? if you built it as the manual says the front A-B block are set to have -3 degrees.....when I ran it like this it was a handful to control especial when on power...
I set the A-B block to give me +3 degrees (turn around blocks and swap left to right) you have to modify the upper arm and the chassis alittle bit as shown in the pic....this mod/setup is basically to give more front caster angle and cured the rear end on-power problems :D
BTW that pic is a picture of Lachat car's (I hope he doesnt mind) but he is not the only one to do it as I have seen other Storm Pro that have done it.

Hey guys!.
Yeah, i really havent played with my anti squat and the A B blocks, but what would increasing the angle do to the car?
And spur, i dont have any toe in, in the rear only in the front but i have do have camber in on the rear. i alos use the same diff oil. 5/7/1.
And can someone please tell me about the options of diff oil. Like increasing and decreasing in the f/c/r diffs.
thanks

For all of you that are currently running with 20 percent Nitro in your G. S. B. 01 I strongly suggest that you should try 30 percent Nitro. A couple of days ago I got my new engine in the mail from horizon hobby because as you know my old one broke. I broke it in with 30 percent Maxys Racing Fuel. Even during the break-in running very very very rich it still seemed like it had tons of power. Then today after breaking it completely, I started to lean it out. By the time that I got it to maximum performance settings without running it too lean, I noticed a huge performance increase over the previous engine. In the previous engine I had been running O'Donnell 20 percent. Not only did my G. S. B. 01 outperform the previous G. S. I owned, it also outperformed the OS V-01b that I had been running before (before it blew up because of a bad rod). It seemed like it could hang with any other top-of-the-line engine. I'll have to drive out sometime though when I next go to my local hobby shop. Also for any of you that are running anything other than Maxys Racing Fuel, I strongly suggest that you try to get your hands on some and try it. It seems like it has more power than O'Donnell but then again I do not know because I never ran O'Donnell 30 percent.
Thanks,
Erik

I went to the 3/5/1 oil. Adn I also tried many other things. I did not have time to the mod for the front end but this is what I ended up with and I got 2 in the 30 minute A. I moved the steering tie-rods to the back hole, 0 toe on the front, 3.5 on the rear (the most I guess), moved the top rear shock mount in 1 hole, and the last thing to actually make it work decent (never thought I would do this to an 1/8 scale), +1 camber all around for side bite. It worked decent. still not quite happy with it though.
BTW anybody else think the setup sheets for the storm dont make any sense?!?

Hey just FYI . i purchased these bearings about 4 months ago and haven't had a problem. they are very smooth. i figured it wasn't bad for the price either. I equiped both of my storms. both are highly modified and i race where ever i can. Korea is a little limited for tracks though.
Just email them direct and i got the bearings for 24.95 a set.

Agree the storm setup sheets are weird
I also ran my steering linkage on the steering plate on the most rear hole (forgot to mention this) it tames the steering down making it move easier to drive but lately I've been running it on middle hole...
Also sometime I may run the front shock lay down more....top shock position middle hole, bottom shock position outside hole but normally middle hole....
If you get a chance try out the frontend mod.....its is a world of difference :D

I went back through the posts and Garen said he would have stock in about 2 weeks (this was 7-24). I am just trying to get my hands on one.
As a stupid question though I am a little confused as to which kits are going to be available. I know Fioroni came out with one, but I also thought GS was releasing one. As far as I know both will do the same thing (eliminate the A/B blocks). Thanks again for all the help!

I am just going to get the Fioroni conversion kit. I am going to order it tomorrow. I am also going to get the Kyosho rear hub carriers. Is there anything else I need to get to make the conversion work? Does it come with the necessary plates to adjust toe and anti-squat or do I need to order those seperately? Do I still need to do the mod for the caster on the front? And one last question, what is the difference between the "Hyper traction" and "Storm traction" diffs from Fioroni? I am also going to order one of those. Thanks again!

If anyone is interested here are the P/N for the Lunsford turnbuckles for the Storm. They come individually so you need 2 of each. LNS1440, 1525, & 1550.
I am going to spend money this week (as you can tell), are the GS 7075 front knuckles worth the money?
Spurdog28
08-26-2003, 12:36 AM
I looked back and intega16's (I think) post. I see what I need to make the conversion work, but I noticed on the GS website that Fioroni offers the kit then also offers rear anti-squat and rear toe-in braces. Do I need these or are they included?

I'm using the fioroni conversion now and the quality is fantastic...
I got my kit from Austria and it came with the chassis, 1 2 3 degree rear toe-in blocks, 1 2 3 degree rear anti-squat blocks and only -1 degree kickup front blocks....
things i need to make it work:
I used K-factory harden hinge pins x2 (front and rear)
need 2mm set screws x8
while your doing the conversion you will be best off getting new lower arms front and rear
I did need to mod the front upper arms as the stock GS block are -3 degree kickup and fioroni is -1 (as mentioned) so the upper arms lean back abit....Still not enuf for me and waiting on the +1degree blocks...grrrrrr...(wish +1 +2 +3 could be available)
The K 7.5 rear upright are NOT a direct fit and I suspect it may change how wide the rear wheels are....You may wanna look at maybe K mp6 rear uprights or hyper 7......they look much more similar....let us know if you can verify this.....I ended up using the GS uprights set at 0.5 toe-in using 3 degree block
Since the conversion I havent been able to drive as fast as previous and needed to re-setup the car still dialing it in.
Regards to the torsens.....I'm using the Storm traction in the front and can say it is fantastic for me....as far as I know, the Storm traction is the newer version over the hyper traction.
Save you money....dont get the CNC knuckles...I dont see any advantage over the cheap cast knuckles except for the nice finish...they will strip just as easily IMHO....
fearsome
08-26-2003, 01:03 AM
Instead of more kickup to get more caster how about making new front C-hub like the kyosho/hyper 7 cars...they have optional C-hub to change caster angle eg. 18, 20 22 front hubs....
any chance of making this option for the Storm?
garen

The Fioroni Storm Conversion kits have been in stock since early August. If your local shop will not order/stock Fioroni parts, email us to find a dealer for you. The option B block will be available soon.
The conversion kit includes everything you need to make the conversion except for a set of long hinge pins. Fioroni does offer (OT-IF111) a hinge pin set. Each individual part is also available in case you need a spare.
Hyper Traction diffs are an older torsen diff. We still have a few left, and we have parts to support them for a while still. Storm traction diffs are newer. Both work good, Hyper traction diffs are more aggressive.
Any other questions, if you "think" GS or Fioroni are making something, if you "heard" that something is coming out, if you have any questions about anything related to Fioroni/GS, please email or call us.

I am sorry to do this, but when I looked at the cost of what I wanted to get from Fioroni, and the fact that I would probably still have to modify the car to make Caster adjustments I ordered a Kanai II. The Storm has been a great car, but I have had to go to far out of my way for various things. So my Storm is for sale, I will have a list of everything I have done to it in the F/S section if anyone is interested, since I have to recoupe some cost it will probably only be there for a day or two before it goes on Ebay.

Thats a shame. I doubt youll be able to tell a huge difference with the k2.My question is why you guys get all **** with caster and anti-squat. Just learn to drive a little better from before and youll have the same thing. i can see changes is stuff like shocks, bearings and that steering rod that made a huge difference. Stuff like that can cange and stuff like camber and toe. But anti-squit, i dunno about you guys but i really cant tell the difference changing thoes. yet. Maybe im not that good yet. who knows.

I'm sory to hear that Spurdog.....But I know exactly what you mean...this will be the last season with my Storm too....If I was you get the MBX5....much much better over the KEII...but you still cant go wrong with the 7.5.....
rcharry, not to be rude and no offence intended but you are not good enuf to tell....Just ask any pro 7.5 driver how the difference is between using the stock 18degree hub over the 22 degree hub....I can be certain they will tell you is is a huge difference...

Dont you see?? for all the previous posts?
Sure I'm fast with the storm but but i've taken the storm as far as it will let me got....now I'm being held back because of the limitation/flaws of the car.
I'm actually faster driving with my friends KE2 (that I setup).
I've had to mod the storm like crazy to get it as fast as it is now....you dont need to do that with the KE2....
Like I said I will run the storm till the end of the next world titles and see what is available...maybe GS will come out with a new buggy???
But I reckon GS have gone in the wrong direction releasing a Storm convert monster truck with it inherent flaws it would be even worst with the bigger heavier wheels...

I havent got a digital camera handy :(
I can try to explain some of the mods....
I have milled out the chassis to lower everything!
Engine sits lower.
reciever box and radio tray sit lower.
Mod the front end as shown in previous posts.
various koysho parts have been custom fitted...
various fioroni options parts fitted for strengthing.
many many screws have been changed as stock ones are either too short ot too weak.
GS CVD's are junk had to replace with various unis from other brands like kyosho, TTR, MIP.
Had to araldite and reinforce the A-B blocks (temp. fix as the arm eventually wobble again) ..list goes on and on.....these are just from memory....
Probably the most critical mod has been the front end as it dramatically improved the cars handling...most of the other mods have been done just to strengthen the car so it will last the main final without falling to bits and to allow me to drive the car harder and more agressively.
Do you reckon a mp7.5 or mbx5 (or any other "decent" buggy) will need these mods and enhancments to be fast and durable?
Like Spurdog...I've had to go way out of my way to make this car fast and reliable and eventually it does get fustrating.

thanks man. i don't theink i necessarily need to do that much work to my car, the only problems i've been having are ovaled chassis susupension mount holes and breaking lower suspension mounts. Ive fixed the second one with longer screws and 4mm nuts. Im also curious what u did to the engine. Did u just turbo the crank, increase the induction timing, cut transfer groves in the sleeve, and increase the duration of the boost port? Or did you do something special to it?
Thanks,

The GS B01 is a three port engine so I ported the sleeve to similate a 5 port engine.
CLean up internal
turboed the crank and polished.
proper breakin.
25%nit 12%oil bam bam bam!!! :)
rcharry: If you have the pro kit there isnt much you need except get rid of the kit black springs and get some option springs. Good tires and lots of practise. If you dont have a decent radio and servos that also would be high on the list!
Just raced possibly my last race with the storm using the GS chassis....much much faster than fioroni conversion
Saturday: qualifying rounds and qualified 4th overall..(just missed out 3rd would have made it straight to finals)
Sunday: First place in semi final by over 1 lap with a flame out!!
started 4th on the grid in A-final but stripped main gear after 2 laps lost about 6-7min to fix it.....managed to get 7th place.
Was heaps of fun....real real shame to let this car go...

HEY GUYS...
I'm new to the Storum forum and looking for some answers to a couple quick questions. I am getting a Storm RTR and was curious #1 do the kyosho wings & wheels fit this buggy? and #2 what replacement bodies fit? will the crowd pleazer?
Anything else i should be aware of? I know this is the storm forum so the opinions here will be biased but I hope I made the right decision to get this buggy used in good shape with 2-.21 engines for $350? I was debating between the lightning pro and the inferno sport before this. Thanx alot guys and I'll be back here for advice and updates I'm sure.

rcharry: if you havent done the front end mod like I have posted you really really should!!! most top-level storm drivers I have seen have done it. Makes the car so so much better to drive...you can really put power on out of corners early and hard without the rear-end being nervous and still be able to dive into corners on the inside (remeber in offroad you win in the corners....very rarely you get to pass someone on the straights) if you can get in and out of the corners fast you will win...
I will still pop in now and then dont you worry :)

losi racer your first question i don't know if its the same hub ask some one else sry. but GS makes wings and now proline is makeing wings, wich look extreamly nice..
your second question yes there is a crowd pleaser body the part number from horizon hobby is "pro310800" and the retail is $25 bucks
Also What kind of engines are they? Hows the buggy? if there in good condition than 350 sounds good.
Hey guys i saw that the lightning RR buggy comes with a 2 speed. Is there a way this can be fit on a storm? or is there a 2 speed specificaly for the strom? is a 2 speed even helpfull?

has anyone used it ,seen it, have it, tried it, have any info on it!?!
oh btw heres a pic of it lol it looks nice
hvp014, that engine is just a rebadged version of the SH engines X2002B which is also badged as the XTM 21 Pro racing engine.
Infact, i got this particular XTM engine the other day and i have just finished breakin it in. So far so good. It seems to have a lotta power on tap, and from what i have heard other ppl say, it's quite a good engine for a bloody good price.
Well infact it really depends on who you get it from. I would suggest that if you wanna get it, go to www.hobbypeople.net and purchase it for $99 for a limited time (i imagine they are going to go outta stock soon cos they are selling like hotcakes!)...
If you want me to post pictures so you can compare them, then i can do that. But it is exactly the same as all the parts that are shown in the picture u posted.
The build quality of this engine seems very good btw... only time will tell about how long it will last... go to this thread i started about the engine to read about other ppl's experiences...
http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=140269
i'm gonna catch up with fearsome again sometime soon, so he can tell u his professional opinion about this engine once he drives it... :D
EDIT: btw it's only a 6 port engine as far as i know... http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/146025.asp

I finally got to play with my Storm last weekend, and got to test some stuff out. The Fioroni chassis conversion works very well. I ran it at Dansey's and the Silverbowl (TQ'ed the club race at Dansey's, then had to leave before the main..) The B blocks for this conversion will be here shortly, and should help on really bumpy tracks.
I also tested the new Medial Pro Vega tire. If you have not seen the tire, go to wildhobbies.com, it is posted in the news section. The same set of tires has been run at KZ, Silverbowl, and Dansey's for at least 1.5 hours total, and it shows very little wear. The grip is excellent. These will be in stock this Fall.

yeah... i have seen the engine run. i saw it run on sunday, and i bought it on monday. That's how impressed i was! As far as breaking it it, i have only leaned it out buy like 3/4 of a turn since stock setting and it is making crazy power. I'm gonna leave it like this for a while... it is running extremely cool. I have about 8 tanks through it right now and it's already screamin' (for break in settings)

well... i went racing w/ my new vz-b this saturday... and it was the worst day ever in my history of r/c. Well... everything was going great until the second qualifier. My practice was great... my engine was running amazing (never went over 215) and my new tires were hooking up like no other. So anyway, on my second qualifier someone in the pits decides to turn on their radio w/ the same frequency as mine... i lose total control of my car and it revs all the way out and slams into the wall. Still going out of control i see sparks all of a sudden coming out of the block.
Long story short, i broke my connecting rod. But luckily enough... my piston and sleeve are still fine.
I was in second place when this happened... like it really matters though in qualifying w/ only 6 racers. Like there is gonna be a b main or something.

Hey fellas, does anyone know if the Kyosho MP7.5 radio box fits in the storm? Cos my storm radio box is a bit outta shape cos i'm trying to stuff a standard 4 cell battery holder in it. And i like the kyosho box better... i had a brief look, and the bottom mounting holes seem to be the same as the storm. Also, the radio tray mounts look similar. If anyone has a MP7.5, coud u possibly do me a favour and measure it up and compare it to your storm? Thanks heaps...

garret,
either sell the vz-b while you still can, or get a v-01b piston. it seems that O.S. has decided to instead of using machined pistons, to use cast pistons. this causes the pistons to wear very quickly and you will loose ALL compression around the 2-3 gallon mark. a v-01b piston is machined though, so it works perfectly. I don't personally own a v-zb, but there hasn't been one person that has told me that theirs lasted over 3 gallons with the stock piston. And I've heard a LOT of people who's engine went SHOT at 2-3 gallons.
Hope this helps,
Erik
Oh and if you want to sell it, give me a call, cause I got an old v-01b piston.

Silent GT- That conversion was going to be produced by another company, and for the time being, we put it off. However, that has nothing to do with the GS Racing product line.
CK- A Storm Unlimited Truck is going to be released, and it will be displayed at the Hobby Visions show in Vegas this week.

I have a setup question.
I'm running 5k center, 3k front and grease in the back on my diffs and the stock oil weights and springs on my shocks. I'm also running proline knuckles.
On the track I run on the stock setup actually seems pretty good (though I'm still learning). The car is stable through all speed ranges. Settles down well after jumps, soaks up the bumps in the track in the sweeping straight and doesn't get jittery or out of control on or off power regardless of speed.
The problem I have is that off power it seems to understeer a fair bit. In fair to good traction I can't get the car to turn into a corner very well when off the throttle and because I have to go so wide, it's adding to my lap times. :(
When the track is dusty I usually just turn in early and slide a little into the u-turn and get back on the power. This is all well and fine but come sunday (race day) the track is moist and I can't do that anymore.
So how do I get a more agressive turn in?
Increase my front camber?
Use 7k center, 5k front and grease in the rear for diff oil (greater difference between front and rear than current)?
Change the setting on my rear swaybar?
Something else?
Any help from you race guys would be appreciated.
Fid
btw - I've finished 3rd both times in the a-main in a field of 8 or 9 the last 2 weekends so if I could get this worked out I might could podium higher. :)

Sounds like you dont have enuf steering there and need to throw you car around corners rather than steer it....
Try:
3k front diff
Short wheel base
(stock shock spring and oil? crazy!!!)
front:
30 wt option springs long blue/short pink
rear:
25 wt option springs long blue/short yellow
OR
Kyosho blue all around and maybe green all around
Steering ackermann middle
Make sure you have high speed/torque servos and set the proper end points to give maximum steering...
check slop in the steering assembly too...tighten your servo saver up!!!
thats it for now.....
from my experience with the storm it has soooo much steering that I had to dial it out.....it is very strange to me that you not getting enuf
hope that helps

The pictures of the truck with the blue body are of a truck built by one of our team drivers using modified off the shelf parts.
The pictures of the truck with the red/flame/stripes body is the pre-production truck from GS Racing.
Hot Products will not be making the conversion kit.
GS Racing will likely have some sort of conversion kit for those who already own a Storm.
Fioroni does not make a truck conversion for the Kyosho car or for any car.
I know nothing of a JT conversion kit. If they are making one, I'm sure it will be very nice.
Before posting any rumors, please check with the manufacturer first.

use blue loctite on as many metal to metal connections as you can find.
on the front upper suspension arm holder you'll want to drill a small hole through the plastic of the arm until you get to the front upper suspension arm shaft. use a drill bit slightly smaller than the set screw you are now going to insert into that hole and screm down so that it holds the shaft in place. otherwise you'll find yourself replacing the e-clips on the ends of that shaft about every 2 - 4 tanks of gas. with the set screw in there you dont need the clips.
i have no clue why gs made it that way as it's the only suspension shaft on the car with e-clips. the rest use set screws.

The OTGS30 Fioroni conversion kit for the Storm does not use any MP7.5 parts. This kit replaces the original chassis and suspension mounts with a redesigned chassis and bulkhead mounted suspension mounts. This is a buggy to buggy conversion kit, not a buggy to truck conversion kit
GS has no plans to make this type of conversion kit.

I'm still with the B01 too. The track I race at isn't a drag strip. The straights aren't that long and there's lots of turns, so the B01 does a good job so far at keeping up with the V01's and the WS7's that run here.
My local track is 115x95' and is soon to expand by another 40' so that may change. I'll have to wait and see.
While the B01 doesn't have the same torque as those guys with $300+ engines, I try to make up the difference with my driving and setup. So far so good.

alright, lets bring this thread back.
I have recently been having problems with my rear shocks. They leak uncontrollably. When I took them apart, I noticed the little plastic washer thing that goes on last on the bottom was all chewed up. I also noticed that the pistons seemed worn. In fact, it was so bad, that I was able to move the shock shafts about 15 degrees side to side. This was obviosly causing the leaking problem. What should I do?
Thanks,
Erik
Oh and 1 more thing. If the rear of my storm bounces around too much, do i increase the wt of the oil, or decrease. im pretty sure it increase, but i want to check anyways.
Fidelio
11-02-2003, 01:54 AM
GSC10060 - pieces that go in the bottom of the shock
GSCSH8 - shock bladders and o rings
GSC10063 - pistons
Those are the parts you need Killer87.
I think if you were to rebuild your shocks with new washers at the bottoms, new (unworn) pistons, and new bladders you'd find a world of difference in you bounce problem.
When your suspension relies on the springs for all of it's dampening, which would be the case with leaky shocks with low oil volume or pistons that don't work right, what happens is the spring compresses but is allowed to release that stored energy too fast, causing the car to bounce instead of absorbing the bumps.

Being able to move the shaft back and forth is most likely due to the plastic shim being chewed up and loose rather than a worn piston. The leaking is also much more likely to be ripped, torn, or incorrectly seated bladders rather than the shim at the bottom.
There are 2 o rings at the bottom of the shock which are for their size fairly thick, while the bladder at the top if comparitively large and fragile. If the rib on the edge of the bladder is ripped it will most certainly leak from the top, through (around) the threads where you screw the cap on.

i don't know man. you can get those parts above and 4 new shock shafts from horizon for a total of $25.46 where a new set of 4 shocks would cost you $60.70. or if you got the storm pro shocks both front and rear it would run you $75.98.
for now i'd get the parts and rebuild, but that's just me.
if you do go with a whole new set of shocks though, go with kyosho or mugen shocks instead if you're busy laying down the money. they may or may not perform better, but they'll be more consistent and less prone to problems.
i treated my storm shocks with a little tlc on saturday and they brought me in first place in the a-main today (Sunday), ahead of both mugen and kyosho.
still though, i'd go with the rebuild.

I am building a Storm Pro and I wanted to know what Kyosho K2 parts fit the Storm? I know the hinge pins and turnbuckles will. What else? Also what chassis are you using( stock rtr, Pro, Dynamite, Fioroni)? Which Chassis is better?

Build your Storm stock for now, make changes later. I would strongly suggest installing a Fioroni bulkhead brace (OT-GS14) now. Use the stock chassis for now. Email me for building tips.

Here is a pic of me jumping my Storm Sport...It loves it all day everyday...ill attach some more pics of it if i can find em
The sport model is simular as the RTR but "own radio equipment"
I have only done a few mods to my storm (os21rz engine, fioroni chassis and Torsion Diffs..and full uni's), not that I needed to just because I could I guess...all the factory parts are as tough as hell
I lost radio contact with my storm the 2nd day after it was properly ran in..back then I had no idea about "do's and donts" and i didnt strap the batterys in properly and I hit a bump out came the batterys and off went my storm into a brick fence at 45mph...Damage was minor due to the excellent build quality I only had to replace the front shock towers and servo savers.
See you at the track....Tom

and will GS ever make manuals available online (ala pdf)? my local shop doesn't have a manual and i'm not givin' up mine. :p plus it would make identifying and looking up parts numbers easier while at the computer.

Killer87, I was feeling your blues at the track today.
For like the 3rd weekend in a row the washer under the piston in my shock buckled and coned letting the piston slip up and down the shaft. I got it fixed before the main but it's becoming a weekly replacement.
Also had a clutch bell bearing blow out on me, luckily i had a spare.
We had a full crowd of 10 buggies this week and the competition was stiff. The track was fast and some of the lowest lap times I've seen all summer were layed down today. Thankfully I made it through the main w/o any mechanical problems but ended up just 4 seconds behind a podium finish. My practice day was rained out this week and my driving could have been better today, not to take anything away from those ahead of me, they did a great job. I was at times a little impatient with the lap traffic as they didn't yield in the slightest and instead of waiting in my pocket for them to make a mistake i tried to overtake them. they weren't having any of that.
i'm looking forward to next weekend where hopefully i can practice a little more patience and finish on top again.
so how did your weekends go?

hey i have a fix for the shocks.
You know when you buy a new servo, and it comes with the rubber gromets and little brass fittings for the gromets? well the brass fittings have a lip on them and they are the same diameter as the shock shafts. all you need to do is cuttthem down with a dremmal or similar item and slide them on the shock shafts. then slide the piston over the brass fitting then put on the nut.
see illistraion. excuse the handy work but my buggy's are at work along with everything else. if you got questions email me at bugsy350@hotmail.com.
I did this mod about 3 months ago after busting the washer with high air jumps.
Since then i've had no more problems.
trust me too all i do is W.O.T. runs at 45 degree angle boards trying to get my storm to fly. And fly she may. i usually get 30-35 feet from the board with a hell of a landing , but she pulls through everytime.
Fidelio
11-15-2003, 05:54 PM
i actually found a Yokomo Diff Thrust Bearing set part no. zs-507 which has 2 washers and some balls.
the washers are the same inside and outside diameter as the storm shock piston washers. they're about twice as thick but more importantly they're hardened and stainless steel. the downside is i spent $3 on 2 washers but they work like a friggin champ. the other problem is i only have 2 and my lhs only had one set.
they do however, kick ass.

Well, I've given up on the G.S. shocks... Today when I was running, I did a couple of jumps and the shocks blew the bottoms out of them... The whole plastic washer, o-ring assembly blew out on both shocks. I was only jumping about 3-4 ft in the air and was landing on grass too!!!
Fidelio
11-16-2003, 08:55 PM
I can definitely feel your pain Erik. I finally get the piston washer thing just about licked and today I bend a shaft under normal driving, didn't hit a thing. unless you call going over the jumps in the track 'hitting' something.
I'd really like to know if the storm pro shock shafts are 3.5mm and if not, why not.
on a brighter note i turned my fastest lap ever at the track today and came in 2nd in the main only about 1/3 lap behind a guy who is usually 2 laps ahead of everyone else, and it's not cause he was driving bad, but i was driving good as i turned more laps too than i ever had before. the guy who i was chasing for the win is 10th overall in the r/c pro series east 1/8th scale expert so i don't feel so bad being that close to him yet not winning, especially with my b01. :p
i'm doing well with my storm here but like you, sometimes i feel like my car is hanging together by a thread. i still love it tho, it's my baby.
Killer87
11-16-2003, 11:10 PM
I traded some monster tires that I had for an OFNA .25 barely used. It seems as if the .25 jumps off the line quite a bit better than the b01, but the b01 has more topend by more than a noticable amount. We'll see how I run with the new engine....
I agree with you fidelio, I hate these shocks!!!!! But my storm is my favorite car, so I'm gonna keep it.

The smaller guard attaches to the front of the center diff mount to protect the front brakes from spilled fuel. Depending on the type of servo and servo horn used, you may need to shave off a small amount of material from the front right side of the guard (you'll know once it is mounted in the car.)
Fidelio

what do you mean the specs are different??? Like the hp and rpm and etc.... Those facts are all over the map on every engine out there... You cant trust the specs..
garen
12-17-2003, 04:32 PM
I don't have any more info at this time. We did test this engine months ago, and it was better than we thought it would be. SH does make engines under different brands, just as Novarossi or Picco make engines sold under various names.
I don't think the GS engine is exactly the same as the Megatech or XTM engine. I'm sure it is similar, but I am fairly certain there are minor differences. If I had the time, I would research it more.
HP and RPM readings can be misleading and should not be used as the deciding factor when shopping for an engine.
If you are comfortable with the XTM or Megatech models, by all means go for it.
Fidelio
12-18-2003, 03:39 AM
no, when i said the specs are different i was referring to the displacement. it's different between the GS vs XTM spec.
And Garen I'm not totally comfortable with XTM or Megatech product which is why I asked. Go GS! :)

rgr. i was messin around tryin to find if i had anything the right size and width to correct the problem and it seems a 2.5 or 3mm e-clip on the screws between the brake plate and the diff mount is just about the right thickness. with the e-clips there it's has a little slop but a little slop is a lot better than a little too tight. it's like the pieces are off by about half the thickness of the flange of the bearing for the brake cam. it's very very small but enough to cause trouble.
anyway, i'm in no rush with this. i have a spare complete diff assembly loaded with different weight oil so i can switch the one on the car out if i need.

Garen, is the Fioroni Storm Ergal Rear Bulkhead Brace designed to keep the diff case from cracking or to keep the wing mount from stripping out of the diff case if you take a big hit on the wing or is it both or neither?
thx G
garen
12-19-2003, 12:22 PM
Both sort of...It's designed to prevent the rear bulkhead from breaking in the event of a hard or otherwise bad crash on the rear wing.
Fidelio
12-19-2003, 05:33 PM
i've seen many people refer to the bulkhead brace as a 'must have' item for storm owners. are you at liberty to say whether this mount has changed on the new buggy?
btw - on the gsracing website there's a store in my area listed as a dealer. they have a couple storm parts but not once have i ever seen anything else there by gs or any of your other brands. since gs doesn't distribute their own product in the U.S. does this mean the shop listed 'should' have some fioroni parts or medial tires?
thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions garen. :)

I'm in the process of rebuilding a Storm ARR. I was wondering what everyone uses to grease the bevel gears in the front and rear diffs. I got the buggy used and am slowly upgrading it to a Pro or very close. I had a HB Lightning Pro before this (first 1/8 nitro) but because parts support was so weak I sold it and picked up the Storm ARR W/ a OS21Rg for $150....figured I couldn't go wrong. Besides for some strange reason the Storm fits my driving style alot better. Anyhow, I've read all the postings on the Storm series and everyone has offered up some great advice and recommendations on hop-ups. I hope to contribute some myself in the future.

I'm new to the forum and to RC cars/buggies. Everyone seems pretty helpful in the threads and I've allready learned alot from just reading through them.
I bought the GS Storm RTR about a week or so ago and......well lets just say I'm "breakin" her pretty quick. The body was the first thing to go. I hit a parking block and it brock right at the front clip (found out later about shoe goo). I also bent the front shock tower that night but it bent right back with the help of a vice. Things were going pretty smooth for a few days and I threw on a few upgrades that I learned about reading the threads. A Dyanmite tuned pipe, Motorsaver airfilter, Ofna fuel filter and GS body.
It was looking pretty cool and running good until....yesterday the mother@#$&*er pegged out and shot off down the street running into a couple of curbs.
It wasn't TOO bad. The wing broke off one peg, front shock tower is REALLY bent now, tab holding down fuel tank broke, fuel filter holder (plastic!) broke and the crappy thing holding the batteries in the reciever. LHS guy says that was probably what caused the accident. Seems like I read that happening to someone else here.
Anyway I'll be heading up the LHS tomorrow and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what else I might need to be replacing soon.
Or any other suggestions on what I might want to change or upgade. Shocks, diffs, whatever?
thanks

driving miss D congrats on joining the storm club here. :)
there are a couple things to do to the storm which i would suggest to any storm rtr owner.
first, if you scroll up on this page you'll see a pic of my car. if you look close you can see that the front and rear shock towers are doubled up. if you just take two shock towers for the front and the rear and a few slightly longer screws you'll eliminate the shock tower bending problem for good. you could also upgrade to the storm pro shock towers to help with this. i have the storm pro towers now but initially i just used the two bent stock ones i had, flattened em out and doubled em up and haven't had a problem again. in the end the storm pro towers are a better option because they have extra material on which allows you to secure them to the diff bulkhead with two more screws than the rtr towers. you can see this in the pic below.
second, on the a-b block suspension arm mounts you'll want to put longer screws through them and put nylock (nylon lock) nuts on top of them. you can see what i mean in the following picture but what this will do for you is eliminate any play that might develop as the plastic weakens from stress but will also eliminate the chance for the screws to strip out of the plastic during a rough race crash. the sus. arm will break before these blocks will budge.
http://www.gs-europe.com/default_zone/documents/rear.jpg
you'll probably also want to get some of these 1/8 Shock Rebld Kit GSCSH8
the bladders in them are about twice as thick as the ones that come in the rtr shocks and will greatly reduce the chance of leaking oil from a damaged shock bladder.

Oh and Dmd, don't trash that body yet that broke off at the front shock tower.
you can cruise to home depot and get some 3/4" velco strips. cut those strips in half lengthwise so that they're 3/8" wide then stick one side to the stone guards on the sides of the car and put the other half on the inside of the body where the guards meet up with it.
works like a champ and after using the velcro you'll consider not using body clips in the future and just sticking with the velcro, even on new bodies. it really does work beautifully.

i thought of a few more things but i don't want to hear anything about the dirt. :p i haven't had a chance to clean my car since my last day of practice (2 days ago).
you can see below on my front upper suspension arm i've drilled into the arm and put 2 1.5mm set screws in each. i didn't find the e-clips reliable so i use the set screws to keep the pin from slipping out of the arm. be very careful when you thread the set screws because the material isn't very thick and the plastic will strip easily but it keeps the pins in place and works well. this is the only place on the car where GS decided to use e-clips to hold a suspension pin instead of a set screw and for the life of me i can't figure out why. a factory finished arm with a place for a set screw and a notched pin would be much more reliable and the way it should be imo.
http://www.pyxz.com/users/1046651563//stormupperarm.jpg
if you turn the screw that goes into the steering knuckle upside down you can then thread it through the knuckle and put the nut on the top. reason for this is if in the event of racing the nut somehow comes off, the linkage could still work until the link worked it's way off the top of the screw.
http://www.pyxz.com/users/1046651563//stormknucklelink.jpg
you'll need a little longer screw for the pic below but the stock car comes with the rear camber link on the shock tower with the screw threaded through the back of the tower and into the ball joint. if you get some screws that are long enough you can thread the screw through the front of the ball and out the back of the tower and put a nut on the back. this makes adjustment and dissasembly MUCH easier than the way it comes from the factory.
http://www.pyxz.com/users/1046651563//stormrearcamberlink.jpg
lastly, if you turn the linkages around 180* on the swaybar ends opposite how they come from the factory you can then have a flat surface from which to measure the distance from the end of the swaybar to the linkage. this makes for easier adjustment and measurement for when you want to make tuning changes to the swaybar. never put threadlock on these or any other 1.5mm set screw or you'll likely never get them back out as with such a small size the sidewalls of the screw strip out leaving you with no way to make it turn.
http://www.pyxz.com/users/1046651563//stormswaybar.jpg
that's it for now. let me know if you have any questions. :)

Damn Fidelio, I'm a little....stunned. You're like a fountain of knowledge. I'm printing up that post to work on later. My guess is that you've been doing this for while. I appreciate your help.
Which leads me to my next problem. After getting everything back together today I tried to crank her up. The pull start was real hard to pull and didn't work as smoothly as before. After a few cranks it wouldn't rewind itself. I started taking the pullstart appart and as soon as I loosened a screw it rewound itself. I went ahead and took it apart and cleaned it. It was a little dirty but nothing wrong. Spring was OK. I didn't tighten the screws so much but this didn't really help anything. It still wouldn't recoil and was hard to pull. I took the glow plug out and it pulls very easy now but still won't recoil without spinning the middle gear little.
I'm going to the LHS tomorrow but tought you or someone else might have some ideas.
I read on another post about engine lock up, but this doesn't quite sound the same.

driving miss D, if the recoil springs back into the case no problem when it's not on the engine then make sure your one way bearing has oil on it and it spins freely in one direction, and locks in the other direction.
the one way bearing looks like a thick nut but if you look on the inside where threads would normally be there are pin type roller bearings.

you can find infomation provided by HPI on rebuilding pull starts. each pull start is a little different but the general idea is the same. you may find something of worth in this article.
http://www.hpiracing.com/walkthroughs/psrebuild1.htm
i've never really had trouble with mine and i've been running this one since april. be careful to not to pull it too far out or you might damage the spring. quick short tugs of about a foot in length are what you want.
if i haven't run my engine for a while the pullstart doesn't retract as freely as when i run the car often. i haven't bothered to investigate it but after some use it's always freed back up and sucked right back in quickly.
i figured if the pullstart ever failed on me i wouldn't rebuild it, instead i'd ditch it and go with a starter box but it's still working fine so i'm still using it. :shrugs:
remember, short pulls. anything longer than 16-18 inches is trouble territory.

Fedelio, I was checking out the pics you posted above. You used longer screws thru the lower hinge pin holders then put lock nuts on. My question is where did you locate the screws? The lock nuts aren't a problem but my LHS ( they stink! ) say "they have no idea where to get them so they can't order them." And I've checked several local hardware stores as well with no success......uugghhh! As always your help is welcome here. :)

i found a place locally which specializes in screws and nuts, that's pretty much all they sell. most of their sales are to other business' so it's not the type of place you'd find in a strip mall but they sell to the public. i'd be suprised if every city didn't have one or two of these places.
i went there and spent about $15. bought everything stainless steel. i ended up with enough screws to last me a whole season.
you can also get screw sets from GS for the storm and the storm pro.

these are a great thing to have because you know you'll have any stock size screw that comes with the kit (i have one of these too). i needed a couple sizes that weren't in the kit which is what made me search out this other place.

Garen and Fedelio, thanks much for the info on the screws:D , guess I'll be ordering a few. This past season was my first experience with offroad, I raced mainly carpet oval and parking lot electric prior. My first nitro was a HB Lightning RTR then a HB Pro, good cars just parts were a issue for all of us that had them locally. My son traded a XXNT for the Storm I have now and I bought it from him. It was the ARR version and had a OS RG on it. I raced it about 8 times and found I drove it better than I did the HB. I'm now upgrading it to close to a Pro and hopefully a full Pro by late spring or early summer. I'm going to try a better motor after I become alittle better driver:D . But i haven't decided which motor to go for, leaning towards the RB WS7II now. My son runs an RB in his Mugen MBX5 and likes it alot. So, we'll see.:)

I see a date of 01/04 on those pics, does that mean it's coming out this month or just when they were made?
I finally got my car running good. I still need to fix the steering. It turns one way more than the other. That shouldn't be too hard.
Fidelio, I changed the 2 pins and e-clips out on the front suspension to some bolts, nylock nuts and little loctite. I made sure I left them just a little loose to allow free movement.
Also bought the pro front shock towers then drilled and mounted the old front one with the back one for a little strenght. It kinda looks stupid but it'll work till LHS gets the back one. I'll have to take some pics.
Still need to get some hardware for some of the other fixes. Luckily I have a nuts & bolts distributor close by.
AND, speaking of tight fittin' reciever boxes. I couldn't get mine in without almost pinching some wires. I've got to do something about this. I see pics of the batteries mounted to the side gaurds.
Any other tips on anything is always apreciated.

Anyone know the specs of the servos that come with the RTR Storm MT?
Fidelio
01-06-2004, 03:12 AM
doesgo it's a different radio and servos that come with the SUT than the storm rtr. i don't recall seeing any specs on the servos for the SUT yet.
dmd, the date on the pics would have been when they were posted on the rcmag website.
yeah the receiver box is a VERY tight fit. i haven't fiddled with mine in a bit but i'd like to see if I can work it so the battery is on the inside (near the engine) instead of where it is now on the outside (near the stone guard). not sure if the stock JR receiver will fit on the outside though, i think it's prolly too tall. you can see in the pics of the new buggy they've got a straight pack with the receiver on the outside.
does your buggy turn tighter to the right?

Hey, guys. Well this is obviously my first post, but I have read the first 15 so far. Any of the older guys around? Uber, Stormin, any of them? Anyways I just ordered a Storm RTR, didn't need the radio but had a friend that needs one so it worked out to be a good deal.
As far as the shock towers and hinge pin braces go, I ordered a set from Holeshot Engineering. I know it might be too late, but anybody got any experience with these?
Also with the radio box, I've seen where you guys say to use a 1/4 config hump pack. My question is will a 3/2 hump pack fit in there with a JR RS300 synthesized receiver?
Thanks in advance?
Fidelio
01-06-2004, 04:13 PM
it should fit since the rs300 doesn't have the hump for the crystal that the rtr receiver has. don't quote me on that but i don't think you'll have any problems. your local hobby shop should have some hobbico 1/4" latex foam for you to make sure you pack the receiver in there well and take up any empty space in the box with the foam. you don't want that nice receiver bouncing around inside the hard plastic box when you hit the rough stuff. you'll probably have room to put a strip of foam under the receiver, a small piece on either end of the receiver and then a little space on the sides of the battery since it's only 3 wide instead of 4.
good luck with your new car, have fun, and let us know if you have any questions. :)

Buggin, I run a Storm ARR (similar to the RTR in many ways) and use a 3x2 hump pack with no trouble. As Fedelio pointed out make sure you use some type of foam around your receiver. I have a Lynx 3DFM radio and receiver. What I did was to put a small strip of velcro with adhesive back on the back of the receiver then installed it in the box on the side closest to the motor and then put foam under, beside and infront of the receiver. Haven't had any problems racing with it yet. Good luck with the car and welcome to the forum.

Fidelio, you're right, it does turn tighter to the right. Sounds like you have a solution. Appreciate your help, as always.
Bye the way, where are your batteries mounted?
Bugging TRC, I guy at my LHS has the hinge pin braces from holeshot and says they work great. I'm kinda curious about the shock towers but I guess you'll find out. Also, I have the 3/2 hump pack and it does fit, but it's damn tight. I had to bend a few wires trying to force the issue. It's easier to split the reciever box in half (4 screws) and put everything in that way. Especially if you're going to put a failsafe in.

Norm and DMD,
Thanks for the heads up about the 3/2 packs. I had read somewhere in this forum earlier about taking the box apart so I will definately give that a try.
I will definately let you know about the shock towers, I know they are thicker than the stock ones. I kept seein where everyone was complaining about the stock shock towers and hinge pins braces, so I figured I would give them a try. On or around page 15 or so the guys on here were talking about the extra mount hole at the bottom of the shock towers that line up with the new bulkhead braces, and the Holeshot towers have em so I hope they won't be too bad.
Unfortuanately now my buggy isn't scheduled to be here till Friday. Oh well. Anybody care to share their preference of tires for a fairly hard packed clay track. Most days its kinda dusty. Race days it gets blown off and wet down and is pretty hooked up with bowties or holeshots on 1/10th 2WD.
Thanks again.

01-07-2004, 10:47 PM
i believe this is what you're looking for. ;)
http://horizon.hobbyshopnow.com/products/description.asp?prod=GSC68020
i have all 3 sizes of those springs. if you haven't ordered yet i'd either get 2 sets of the long and 1 short, skip the medium. or i'd buy someone elses springs all together.
the long springs fit the front shocks and GS doesn't make a spring for the rear that fits without using the short (other than the stock storm and storm pro springs).
i'd love for GS to make a fourth set which would fit the rears. i like having the option to go dual rate but i'd rather have the choice for a single spring in the rear instead of having to use the coupler.
as for the tires, m2 crimefighters are good just about everywhere from what i've seen. they seem by far the best all around tire.
DMD, unfortunately i don't have a solution to your problem. my car did the same thing but since my local track has 90% right turns i hadn't bothered to chase it down before the weather got cold. i'll be racing at more tracks this year so i'll need to get that worked out. I did go to a couple different tracks while i was in vegas and i didn't notice it then and i didn't notice it after i got back. i've put a lot of new parts on my car and have been workin' with the setup so i'll let you know if it's still there next time i get out to my local track.

I just bought 2 sets of Dynamite aluminum lower suspension hinge pin holders for my Storm. While trying to install them using new lower arms and hinge pins I found that more effort than necessary was needed to push the hinge pin through the arms and aluminum holders and once thru the arm didn't want to pivot very easy. I tried using the new arms and stock (plastic) hinge pin holders and pins and all was fine. So I figure the Dynamite holders must be machined wrong. Has anyone else had this problem? I always thought Dynamite stuff was pretty good quality. I called Horizon Hobbies and they advised to send them to Horizon for inspection.....more money and time wasted?
Fidelio
01-08-2004, 08:35 PM
unless your hinge pin is absolutely straight, and i mean perfectly straight, it will bind. the slightest bend will hit one of the sides once the pin is installed. since the pin is held by a set screw in both the plastic and alloy versions it's not going to rotate once inside anyway. what you can do is enlarge the holes in the sus arm very slightly. you only want to remove enough material in order for it to move freely but you don't want to create any play in the joint so take your time.
i have a set of the dynamite blocks but i don't have them on my car. i used them a little but found that one of my cvd's has a problem in that the pin on the dogbone end likes to move from center. the first time it moved i couldn't believe it and i tried to push it back with no luck then took it to my LHS and they said they'd replace it under warranty when they got a replacement in stock. well, that was the middle of the summer and they haven't gotten a single storm part since then much less a cvd. it's moved a few times since then but i've managed to get it recentered with brute force. long story short, i've been running the plastic blocks because when the pin moves it rubs on the block. the plastic will give way and make a little groove where the lopsided pin passes. the alloy block would likely stop the part from rotating, and in a race if you noticed it half a lap later, it would likely take out your diff. once i put the longer screws and the nuts on the plastic blocks i haven't had any problem with them whatsoever. so i haven't found a need to put the alloy blocks back on. so now for backups i have a new set of plastic blocks and the alloy pair. that's one part come race day that won't keep me out of a heat.
i know it's not a tip but maybe you can gain something from that experience.

Funny thing is the steering without it seems just fine, no slop and no binding, oh well, it's not much to tear it apart if I find out thru the manual that it has a home. Like I posted earlier, over on TWF8 they show the Pro steering build up but there's no nylon washer that I could see.

norm, i'm saving all my pennies for a WS7 or WS7II but I'm still running the B01. It's been colder than a witches *** here so I haven't run in weeks.
As far as the engine goes I figured I'd better damn well learn to drive competitively before I stuck in a monster power plant. I only raced locally at one track last season and the B01 kept up really well, suprisingly well. However, the track is small and tight so there's not enough space for any drag races. I plan on getting around to many more tracks this season and might even run in the r/c pro series east intermediate class. I'm sure I'll find I get left in the dust pretty quick and at that point maybe I'll consider a better mill but for now I've been quite happy with the B01.

Sure sounds like Horizon is out of the GS Racing business. At least they really stepped up GS Racing's website to make it pretty decent. Not great, if you click on the Storm/SUT/Pro parts link you get eleven pages of parts from shock pistons to foams to spur gears.

As long as someone's got em and I can get get if I need em, that's good enough for me. I'm kinda used to having to find other places to get parts, my LHS never has anything you need.
Well, I have put my Hoelshot Engineering shock towers on. Whoa what a difference tween them and the factory ones. Not too sure about the hinge pin braces that came with them. They seem like they would put toe in on the arms (if that makes sense). When I was puttin the shock towers on and filling my diffs, I was gonna put the braces on. But I can't see how they would possibly fit, plus the longer hinge pins have no notches for the set screws. Maybe next time I have the buggy torn down I will give it another shot, It was late and I was tired. Think I need to write Holeshot and see what they say.
Anybody know what size screw I need for the new bottom holes in the shock towers (the ones that go into the tabs on the diff housing)? Thanks in advance.:D

doesgo/kojak: Horizon will continue to carry GS parts for sometime, and hopefully continue further on. Stormer is more than welcome to contact us to order parts at any time. Our prices are mostly the same as Horizon's current prices, with very few exceptions (very few are lower or higher). Our site is currently undergoing updates...most/all the GS product should be updated by this weekend with Fioroni, Medial Pro, Arrows, and Hot next week.

Our track is pretty good clay, hard packed and never quite a blue groove. On most practice days it tends to be a bit sandy, but on race day it gets blown off and wet down slighty. The other day we almost had a blue groove, and the track veteran (damn fine driver) told me the factory RTR tires would have been perfect if they did not have the outermost row of tread on either side. Any suggestions?

You can cut threads off tires to suit track conditions. We have not raced with the RTR stock tires, but if you think they'll work, by all means go for it. Try Medial Pro Vega tires, they should work good. You might want to cut the outside knobs off if it suits your track.

What track conditions would make it so a tire would run better without the outer tread?
Similarly, what running characteristics would change after removing the outer tread from a tire?
