Welcome everyone to the Twealth Street/Race Competition!!

The Street/Race paint competition will be open for entrees for two weeks and will close at Midnight February 29th CST.

Each month we will hold a Best Paint and Street/Race competition. If you can’t get your bodies done this month, don’t worry there will be plenty more to come!!

Restrictions: NONE (April will be the first month with restrictions. I will post the restrictions during the March competitions).
Best Street/Race competition:
This competition was created because there are people who are truly gifted at making a 1/10 piece of clear plastic look like a real car. A majority of these car bodies are painted in 1 or 2 colors, but that is not where the difficulty comes into play. This competition focuses on the details of the body, does the paint scheme resemble something you would see on the street or a full size race track? Does it have an exhaust pipe, wing, mirrors, windshield wipers, intercooler, mesh grill, realistic LED’s for lights, brake calipers, do the wheels look good with the body, interior, engine bay, opening doors, opened windows, a driver? This competition is not limited to cars. One month someone entered a Tamiya Toyota Stadium truck that almost perfectly resembled the real one you can see motoring and hopping its way around the Baja peninsula once a year. A XXX-T does not really fit in this category simply because it does not resemble the styling of a real car, it is the result a RC evolution to go faster around a dirt track. Each body will be judged based on 3 criteria from 1 to10:

1) Detail: How much detail is on the body? Is it a proline body with no effort to create scale detail beyond the paint scheme? Is it a Tamiya body with mirrors and all the usual tamiya trimmings (yes a tamiya body with nothing but what came in the box will score better than a proline with nothing more than what came in the bag because the tamiya body simply has more detail!). Points are given for the scale realism of the paint scheme and for the added detail (exhaust pipe, wing, mirrors, windshield wipers, intercooler, mesh grill, realistic LED’s for lights, brake calipers, do the wheels look good with the body, interior, engine bay, opening doors, opened windows, a driver, etc).[/b] bold because it is different from best paint competition.
2) Design: Exactly like the best paint competition. How well does the design fit/flow on the body? Is it visually appealing? How are the color choices? Originality does NOT count.
3) Execution: Exactly like the best paint competition. Regardless of how complex or difficult it is, how well is it executed? Are there paint bleeds? Are the lines straight (or correctly curved)? Are their obvious mistakes? Finger prints? How well executed are the fades and other basic painting techniques? etc.

I want to point out that difficulty is NOT being judged in the best street/race competition. The detail and realism achieved is enough of a judge of the difficulty, time and effort put into a body.

The photo and background will not be judged. All that is needed is a clean photo that clearly shows the body. Multiple angles will help gauge the skill used throughout the body.

The winning body may be chosen to appear in Radio Control Car Action!!
RULES for Street/Race competition:

1) Any body may be submitted to the competition (Truck, buggy, touring car, etc).
2) Any body submitted may NOT appear in another competition.
3) Photo editing the pictures (other than cropping and adjusting brightness/contrast) is highly looked down upon and may result in disqualification.
4) Anyone may enter a body (professional painters are welcome!)
5) Please refrain from insulting bodies in anyway.
6) Must fall within this month's restrictions (None)
7) Only 2 entrees per person.
8) Bodies should be painted within the last 4 months.
9) Bodies must be of a "street" look or be painted in a race car style.

Each submission must include the following:
Body manufacturer and size.
Paint used.
Masks used (hand or precut)
And of course, a body.

This month the great Batch will be judging the Street/Race paint competition.

GOOD LUCK

Dannnng, Integra, how are you gonna judge this? Your car could easily be the winner but if you judge it that way there's sure to be a lot of wankering. Good luck navigating that one!!

The car would be every bit deserving, though.

Yosh
02-20-2004, 09:55 AM
I think Integra is still eligible for this one because this is the "Best Street/Race...#12." He won the recent
"Best Paint...#12" competition and will be the judge of the next "Best Paint...#13," if i'm not mistaken.
Mab might be able to clarify when he sees this post.

Hope i can get mine in on time. Waiting for my friend to take a pic of it still.

Question for Mab, would it still be my work even though i'll be selling it on eBay after this competition?

**To Administration**
If what i mentioned above about eBay infringes on rules for this forum as a whole, i apologize in advance.
It really isn't an ad for myself since i use a different username on there. Hope i didn't break any rules. :( Thanks.

Integra is eligable because the competitions are seperate. He will be judging next month's Best paint.

Before people jump to conclusions on who is going to win, i want to point out that 1/3rd of the points are given for scale detail ie brake rotors, side mirrors, interiors, an entire engine, etc. The C5R is very well done, but we must leave that decision to the judge.

Its cool I understand ....

Something like the work of "integra d12" would be considered as inspiration to a novice painter as myself to show me how intense planning, color choices, pattern designs, and much patience all work together to make something as beautiful as that....

I do believe that their should be certain classes of entry for skilled painters like d12 to go against other higher end painters just to make it more interesting ... so like it wouldn't seem as a drowning to the other painters here ...

Example: you wouldn't attempt to race a GT3 car against a GT1 class car would you?

Keep your head up! I know that ive had my fair share of bodies that got ruined for some annoying reason or another. Dont worry about winning the competitions right now. Enter your work and get some postive feedback about how you can improve. Eventually other people will be looking at your work and complaining that they cant compete with it.

In order to get it entered under the wire, I'll upload one image now. I'm working on a quickie webpage that'll have some more pictures and reference shots and the like, but it might not be ready for a couple more hours. There's nothing specific in the rules against such, (admittedly I'm skimming through them quickly), but if that disqualifies me, so be it, just thought to try.. been working on it whenever possible for days now and only now had time to post it now that it's done.
I'll either edit or post afresh with the URL once the descriptor page is ready.

Body manufacturer and size.
HPI 190mm Ford Mondeo - nobody that I know of makes a Ford Falcon like it's supposed to be.

Paint used.
Alclad II Lacquer chrome for grill and tail trim.
Createx acrylic otherwise throughout.

Masks used (hand or precut)
Liquid masking fluid, cut freehand.

And of course, a body.
See attachment.

Alrighty, the page is up. I went a bit nuts with the pictures... the car is going to hit the track under race conditions in less than a week, so I guess I wanted as much 'recorded for posterity' as possible.
I certainly don't expect to win, especially against some of the competition (wow, I do say, WOW - though better pics wouldn't hurt, fellas) that's up this time around. I mean really.. I've got no engine nor interior, not even windshield wipers or mirrors. And the body posts are showing.
But it's modeled after a real race car, so that should at least qualify it, eh what?

So anyway, I digress. Have a look:

oh my word, i wasnt even giving you attitude, i wasnt even trying to push you...i really should have worded it differently....but i was mostly curious as to why it took as long as it did. I didnt mean to sound rude, no offence was intended. So i'd appreciate it if YOU loose the attitude.

btw congrats JGTCracer21 :D
