Well,

Seeing that everybody here is really intellegent then here are a few questions about engines and other things. I can only hope Iu get this stupid engine fixed and/or get a new one and get it running at least by Sunday here on the East Side of the U.S.

1.) Ok what would be the best of these 2 engines, O.S. .12 CV-R X or a Dynamite .12S Pull-Start, Universal Crank?

2.) If you own any of the engines mentioned above then can you please tell what experience you had with it good and bad.

3.) Will the Dynamite engine mentioned above fit inside the HPI RS4 Nitro MT??

4.) Is a Tamiya Frog be a really good basher even though it is 15 years old (about)?

5.) Whats the best way to set up a Starter box?

6.) Whats the best method of using a starter box? Like slowly bumping it, or letting it get up to the top rev's and then holding it or what??

Thanx for any answers to my questions, post the number of the question that you answer.

-Ryan

All I can answer is 6. You should have the height of the contacts set so the wheel is spinning at full RPM by the time the flywheel contacts.

1, I'd take the 12CV-RX. I've got both 15CV-RX and a 12CV-R.

2, Can't answer yet. Haven't started the 12, starting 15 tomorrow.

3, It should fit in an NMT, anything with a normal/threaded crank will fit.

1.) Ok what would be the best of these 2 engines, O.S. .12 CV-R X or a Dynamite .12S Pull-Start, Universal Crank?

I have the Dynamite.

2.) If you own any of the engines mentioned above then can you please tell what experience you had with it good and bad.

The only problem that I have ever had with it is the pull start, I have replaced it 3 times.

3.) Will the Dynamite engine mentioned above fit inside the HPI RS4 Nitro MT??

Not sure I dont know what size shaft it reqiures.

4.) Is a Tamiya Frog be a really good basher even though it is 15 years old (about)?

No, its old and slow.

5.) Whats the best way to set up a Starter box?

Good batteries..........................

6.) Whats the best method of using a starter box? Like slowly bumping it, or letting it get up to the top rev's and then holding it or what??
What ever turns your motor over, I dont recommend ever holding the motor down, the motor my have a different turn speed than the starting box. It may damage the piston or connecting rod.

ok well,
I say there is no way you can go wrong with OS i have a .12 TR and its reliable, fast, easy to tune and looks good. I havent had any troubles with it. Also all OS engines come in a variety of cranks and crabs so you can choose whats right for you.
The starter box you have to set up to fit your car basically. The way I do it is if I havent driven my car for a while or have ARO in it I stick it on prime it, attach glow start, and just let er crank while im playing with the throttle finger opening and closing the carb then when it starts I take it off the box and drive. BUT if the engine is already warm or doesnt have ARO i just bump it for a sec cause it starts alot faster.

I hope i helped. I didnt answer your questions I just gave you general info.

Can't go wrong with a OS!:D

OS Engines has been making engines since the beginning of RC history (or close enough to it) and has long been a benchmark of reliability, I've owned many of their aerial and four of the their ground engines and have never had a complaint. You can't beat the quality for the price, but there are better racing engines out there. I like non-PS engines, less to go wrong.

2.) If you own any of the engines mentioned above then can you please tell what experience you had with it good and bad.

See 1. :D

4.) Is a Tamiya Frog be a really good basher even though it is 15 years old (about)?

My only complaint with Tamiya stuff has been their parts are proprietary and distribution is almost always limited, if you break something you almost always have to order direct from the factory. Most Tamiya's are designed for accuracy of scale over performance and don't quite have the handling characteristics of many racing RC's. But yeah the Frog is fun, I think.

5.) Whats the best way to set up a Starter box?

12V Gel cell inside the box, makes it easy to carry. Float charger that allows you to just leave it on charge all the time without worry of over-charge, and so it's all ready to go when you are. Adjust the pegs so the wheel hits EXACTLY in the center of the flywheel without hitting the chassis as all, if it hits the chassis it will stall. Also the height of the wheel must be so it doesn't go so deep as to hit the chassis.

6.) Whats the best method of using a starter box? Like slowly bumping it, or letting it get up to the top rev's and then holding it or what??

Rev it up and apply pressure just until it begins to turn over the engine, if it stalls lift immediately, something's wrong (like hitting the chassis.) If you don't allow it to bog down much the motor(s) should last a long time.

Sugerbowl has a three outdoor tracks. I like the tracks there but little far from home.

I live near TFB http://www.tfbraceway.com/main.html

You need all your stuff that you need for when you run at home to carry with you.

yeah the frog is fun - many of the parts are still around due to the continued use of the chassis on other models. having said that some parts can be hard to find as it is an old model(ebay helps tho....)

however you may want to use a more recent Tamiya buggy for better spares etc - one thing Tamiya do make is tough beginners RC - so a King blackfoot monster truck or a fighter buggy RX will be almost indestrucible so will bash well.....

I have no idea about any questions on Nitro tho.....

The 15CV-RX started easily today. I'm still a nitro newb I managed to get it started very easily unlike my Orion Wasp12SE.

5. If you can get it, go for a starter box that has both a power panel on the front and a gel cell battery(with a charger is nice too), get good quality connectors for the battery, high torque motors, like the p2k(stock) or monsters of touring 17 turn(mod) wiull be able to turn over most engiens. good wire is nice too, and think that zipties and loctite are your friend!
