I got a Novak SS last March as soon as they were released! I put it in my Stampede and geared it stock at 18/87. I ran 6cell GP3300's and had a set of Ballistic 7cell GP3300's made and ran this set up all last Spring and Summer with Zero problems! The Pede had 5X11 bearings also, so it was very free.

I sold that Pede this last Christmas and missed it every since, so I just built another! Same set up, but this system Thermal's at the end of the battery pack, and thats on new GP3300 6cells! Truck is free moving, no binding anywhere! I have 3000 NiMH's, and it runs the whole pack fine, but when I install the 6cell GP3300's, it thermal's near the end of the pack!

Today I cut the whole windshield of the body out, then lowered the gear ratio to 17/87, but it still thermal'd. Like I said, same set up last year, but geared higher at 18/87 and 7cells too and no thermal'ing! I'm gonna send the system in to Novak, but was wondering if anyone else has had this?

Yup, my latest warranty replacement thermals quite often.

I've got mine in a XXX-4 which is about the hardest environment for any ESC. There is little ventalation for the ESC and what air it does receive is warmed up by the motor which sits just in front of it. Then add in the extra amp draw from 4wd and it's very demanding on an ESC/motor.

My previous ESC, never really even got warm in my B3, but then half of the cooling fins were exposed to direct air and the motor was far from the ESC.

My guess is the ESC needs to receive a good dose of air to stay cool enough to run properly.

Well the weird thing I forgot to post eariler is, the esc was getting very warm, not really hot, but the motor gets very hot! I cut the windshield out today, so now the esc gets just warm, but the motor still gets very hot! The esc. is placed in the direct air, but i can't get anymore air to the motor, but it hangs outside anyways, so something must be wrong inside it!

I know the gearing is fine, heck, I can't keep the front end down now, but I dropped a tooth off the pinion too, but no help! Thermal's at the end of the 3300's everytime!
