I too have had a clicking rear Maxx diff. So I rebuilt it after 3 gals. of hard on the gas(still looked ok inside) with a spool(to avoid a messy unsealed diff with heavy oil in it) and it still clicks. I used a fresh r&p too(fresh bearings also). I didn't know about silicone diff grease at the time, so I used synthetic bicycle grease in it. It seems to run fine though. My front diff is much quieter(not rebuilt).
My thoughts were a poor stock r&p mesh. Will the Robinson r&p eliminate this? There are no shims being used with a spool set-up.
Any thoughts?

Well let me just say that i jsut removed my spool and i hated it. The clicking your hearing is probably something skipping a tooth (your r&p gears) when you go into a turn. If you take any kind of hard turns on hard packed grippy surfaces, there is ALOT of pressure put on the axles and diffs.
My advise, remove the spool, go to my post on "Getting a stiff one (diff)". Then go and re-install the diff.

The clicking(or humming) I hear is while spinning the rear tires in my hand-not while running. The noisy rear diff was happening before I rebuilt it-thats why I rebuilt it-just with a spool. The handling is quirky-but the roost is worth it.
You must adjust your truck & driving style a bit to make it handle decent. I agree its harder on the telescoping outdrives(broke two today), but the snap and roost coming out of corners is awesome!
I blew Savages away today with ease. :D
I will go back to the standard diff when I drop in my Ofna/Picco Max.21 to delay breakage.
Where do I locate your post? I'm curious.
Anyone heard of silly putty in diffs?

do they make all steel diff gears? is it difficult to rebuild them?
