Ok, I've put about 4 battery packs through my new Novak 5800 brushless system, and runs unbelieable fast. It makes my MRC Iron Man monster truck almost stupid fast, I love it. But for whatever reason, the ESC gets really hot. It has never thermaled out on me, but thats just because I will only run it for 5 or 6 minutes before I let it cool off. I'm running a 14 tooth pinion, and it wheelies all over the place so its definately not over geared. All of my solder joints are mostly clean, so I can't understand where the heat is coming from since the motor gets only luke warm. Its like there is some kind of resistance internally of the ESC. Anybody got any ideas, or similiar problems?

The Novak SS speed control gets hotter than other brushed motor speed controls, so the heat you are experiencing is probably normal. The ESC is designed to operate comfortably between 160 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Grab a temp gauge and see what it's running at.

my Novak BL runs about 200 degrees on the speedo, and 120 on the motor, and i've never had a problem, even over extended running times (like 3 batteries run back to back)...

Ok, thanks for the replies dudes, that really calms my nerves. I'll run it tomorrow for a full battery pack without a break in the middle. If it doesn't thermal out on me I won't worry about it anymore. Thx again.

it seems once the Novak BL gets up to operating temp, that is as hot as it gets, no matter how many packs you run through it... not like a regular motor and speedo that will just keep getting hotter and hotter...

btw... as you've probably already read here, several people are having problems with their Novak BL speedo's thermalling... and i have seen this at the track as well... mainly with people that have bought their systems the last 3-4 months... i have one of the first ones, and it has never thermalled, no matter how stupid i gear i rc's on 7 cells... but while using mine, i have learned to trust it that even though the speedo runs really hot, that is normal and it works fine... but if yours thermals, you might need to send it in...
i've read where some people are putting small fans on their speedo's.... i've done that before in the past, but because i race off-road, i always ended up busting the fans apart on hard landings, so i don't even attempt to use them anymore....
