Im getting my first monster which is a sportmaxx...Im definetly planning on getting the 2-speed and 4 wheel-drive upgrades but are they difficult to install? This is also my first nitro vehicle so im not too skilled...any help would be appreciated.

you could dismantle the entire tmaxx in 2 hrs if you know, but it wouldnt be hard at all. BTW why didnt you just buy a tmaax kit or RTR?

You will have a blast with it for quite awhile. Don't get frustrated with the tuning though. The 2.5 is tricky. Make VERY small adjustments on the hi & low needles. You will want 2 speed once you can handle the single. Look for good deals on ebay.

The sportmaxx is a good truck. I would have gotten it, and then got a 4wd kit. I probably wouldn't get the 2 speed. Never really liked them. Plus, the sportmaxx has a better transmission, and no internal clutches, hence no clunking when taking off real slow.
That clunking is from the reversing mechanism.

I heard that traxxas was giving out free two speeds if you buy a Sportmaxx so technically u already get one of your hop ops free.

Sport maxx can get a two speed for free as long as you purchased from a LHS and not a major online seller like Tower.
PCC, the clunking is from the internal clutches which are neccesary for reverse, the only way to get rid of it is a FOC so in a sense, you are both right.
