Hi,
I have a Schultz 18.61K ESC coming, and it has no BEC.
How are you guys setting this up?
Are you plugging & unplugging them from the RX, or using a on/off switch,
or can you wire in a SBEC?
If your using a switch, any particual one work better?
Appreciate your help,

You have to feed the reciever the proper voltage. Either by a separate reciever pack, or an "external" BEC powered by the main battery, like the UBEC or even a simple +6v voltage regulator. You can wire it with a switch or just plug it in the reciever.

Yes if I didn't wire in a BEC I was going to use a RX battery.
Is one why better than another, or is it just personal preffernce?
Will standard airplane on/off switch work if I go that route?

Yeah, any small switch will work... just rob a regular harness/ adapter switch. One rx pack I made, I hardwired and mounted a switch to the pack itself, and had the leads then go to the rx plug, with a second piggyback plug used for charging the pack. Makes for a nice neat install.
I haven't tried the UBEC, but a lot of guys seem to like them.
Good...
RX packs are nice because it doesn't rely on the main battery, obviously. It's good... it helps prevent any funky glitching or problems from the RX sharing a battery that's being hit with 60 amps at the same time the RX needs juice. I haven't had trouble either way, but some have reported isssues when using an ESC with a built in BEC, so they went with an RX pack.
Bad...
It's just another battery to keep charged, maintain, and it's a few more ounces added too..

I just hardwire directly to the main battery, works good for 6 cells.
Just like in this thread:

UBEC from: www.koolflightsystems.com
It is either use a reciever pack or a UBEC.

I agree. I've tried the 5 cell receiver pack which works great. I've tried the Ultimate BEC which is fine too - but the voltage is a bit lower so servo speed goes down. I've also tried hardwiring it straight to the battery for 6 cells and that seems to work fine too - but be cautious, if you're using really expensive 100$ servos, you might not want to go this route.
With the 5 cell receiver pack, I got this thing from a plane where there are three plugs. One for the pack, one for the RX, and one for the charger. The on/off switch toggles the battery to the receiver in the "on" position and in the "off" position, it toggles to the battery charger plug.

Yes, simply hardwiring from the main battery would work fine for a 6 cell pack, because many RX's have a built in BEC circuit already.
I was assuming the use of more cells. My BL is an Emaxx...
Don't try feeding the reciever 12+ volts
If you hardwire, just solder RX wire to the main battery plug of the ESC.
AA and 2/3A cells only cost @$1 ea... if you want to make an rx pack. If it's for a 1/10 scale you can go with smaller cells... like AAA, etc

I had a schultze 18.61, I used a seperate reciever pack in my emaxx, also used that same pack for a 40mm fan for the esc.
