Anyone besides me still running one of these old school trucks.

Mine was neglected for many years and oly recently has been resurected.
Tell you what...I'd say it is possibly faster than my 4WD CEN FunFactor. On acceletation it certainly beats it hands down. As for the noise it makes, the blue anodized tuned pipe sounds a hell of a lot better than the plastic pipe i got with my CEN.

Come on people I need to find out from any hawk veterans how i can give it the manouverability of the CEN...

Ok, here's a quick quiz for Hawk veterans:

How do you adjust the toe-in on the rear wheels, there is a wedge under each lower hinge mount on the rear with 3deg marker on it, is this for anti squat (camber) or for toe-in adjustment. The manual mentions wedges for toe-in adjustment and also mentions 3deg of anti squat, which happens to be the number on the wedges, co-incedence or not?

Someone advised me to reduce rear toe in for better steering....help, will taking the wedges off reduce toe-in or remove anti squat?

I had one back in the day, I got it in the summer of '94. It was my first nitro.Mine had the white nylon parts, and the Image .12 engine. What engine does your Nitro Hawk have? The later version of the Nitro Hawk had black nylon parts, and included the pro .15. The later version might have come with the sport version of the trx .15, I can't remember.

You turn the turnbuckles in the rear to adjust camber.I don't think the toe in the rear was adjustable as far as I know. The rear toe in is to prevent the rear from squating under acceleration. I think the wedge under the hinge pin mounts are for adjusting caster, not camber. I haven't had my Nitro Hawk for about 5 years.

My Friend Still runs his. I gotta hand it to Traxxas they sure did make the hawk one tough truck. We were at a parking lot and I was stopped with my RC10 GT and my bud hit me head on with his Hawk. The front end of my RC10 GT Blew apart and all that happened to him was the hawk stalled, lol.

RC Dealer,

Mine is the one with the black nylon parts, the engine is the TRX12 which seems to be a very rubust engine as it wasnt run for 4-5 years and only required encoraging with a starter box (after the string snapped on pull 1 - years of fuel rotting it a guess.....lol). I fitted the blue anodized tuned pipe and now it is a beast that I really cant tame.....lol

Goodie,

sure it is a tough truck my first one got bent after crashing it into a concrete post at full speed. No damage except a crease in the chassis where it bent just infront of the metal plate under engine & gearbox. Only a tiny kink visible but the body mount was 15mm out after that....lol
It got stollen shortly after that, then I got the one I have now, Ran it once then left it to rot - shame on me!

Understeers like a ******* with any hint of power, that is why I wanna tweak the rear toe in to try and remedy that..

Any help would be appreciected

I live in the UK and order my spares direct from Traxxas in Bristol. Most model shops only carry spares fot the newer models, so it makes sense to "cut out the middleman". The chap in Bristol also knows most of the part codes so its handy if you aren't sure of the code. Ordering over the phone is very prompt if you use a credit/debit card though cheques have to clear before they post.

I've owned my Nitro hawk since 1996 (I think :) ), maybe longer... I was a kid when I purchased the model and really didn't realize what I was doing. I decided recently I wanted to resurrect the old beast. Going back through it all now as an adult, there's quite a few things ruined. I ran it way too lean for quite a while. The piston is badly damaged on the top, including a chip in the top edge and the sides have nasty scratches on them. The crankshaft is split at the intake hole on both sides. The entire engine was frozen. I was never happy with the performance of the TRX-12 engine (probably mostly because I didn't know what I was doing), and I have a TRX-15 from my T-Maxx that I'd like to put in it. I called traxxas and told them I wanted to convert to the .15 and they acted like they didn't have the parts- some of the part numbers I was given go the old TRX-12 engine!

Anybody think I could get away with cutting the plate that goes under the tranny to fit the newer engine and engine mount? Will it even work with the clutch bell on the end instead of the flywheel? Has anybody tried?

Thanks for any suggestions!

i had a nitro hawk for about 7 years. i ran it alot, but aventually the engine went bad after 3 gallons of fuel. i also had a pro 15 from my t-maxx(i converted it into a 2.5) and wanted to put it in my nitro hawk. all you have to do i buy a long crankshaft(the crank shafts are interchangable with the pro15 and the pro12) and put it in the pro 15. you can use the same motor mount, flywheel, clutch ect. and it will drop in i used a starter box, but you can modify the car to have a ezstart. hope this helps -kevin
