Pro-Line Hole Shot truck tires... small studs?

I just bought some Pro-Line Hole Shot truck tires with the special "R3" compound for my stadium truck... and i just got them and the studs seem really small. I thought the bigger the stud, the more traction you get. So why do all the big name racers use them? I bought them because i've heard such good things about them and all the champions use them. Is it just me or are the studs too small?

Actually the small studs and the soft compound are excellent for hardpacked blue groove tracks. The big spikes only allow a small contact patch where the smaller spikes allow a larger patch. Big spikes and treads are good for loamy loose soils.
