JH99, you might have a hard time getting this truck now because most the hobby shops are recieving a very small amount. If you cant get one this month you might have to wait another 30-40 days.
I think I am about sold on the LST. I just have another question. Is the engine reliable and easy to tune?

sorry guys, but i must recant what i said earlier. the official shipping date is tuesday. i forgot about monday being a holiday. yes, speedtester, i know that my lhs is only getting two the first time around. although the owner said that there should be another two or three arriving every following week. i am just curious as to what the hobby shops price is for them. i bet there is quite a profit to be made on this awesome truck.

Hopefully the price will be $599.99 like the major hobby shops

I know adam drake used the included engine to win the trucks debut race, he also ran it at the TeamLosi race at Minnreg, power and reliability looked be no problem! You could tell by the way it was carrying one front wheel under power, heh heh heh!......Jim

Cost on this truck to your local hobby shops is $479.99 They are selling them for $599.99 so you should be able to bargain once enough are out there.

The stock engine has some serious grunt..very impressive.
Did any hobby shops receive an LST yet?

The hobby shops should have the first shipment of LST's no later then the 9th. I have mine payed for in full. Already having it payed for tends to make one quite impatient. I'll be sure to let you know exactly how great it is.

I got word from my LHS today, that Horizon shipped an LST out to them today. It's all mine, so I should have it in my hands by Friday!!!!!! It is true that they are in limited supply though. My LHS has alot of them on back order (around 40) but the invoice from Horizon showed only shipping one out to them. Good thing I support my LHS because I'm first in line and WILL have mine this week.

all i can say is dont take your engine out unless you torch the mount to loosen up the red loctite.. and as soon as i tried my low speed set the gear showed its self to be messed up.. photos on the link above..

Hobbytown in Lee's Summit got two in...well, now they have one. Blue. This is an incredible truck! Still breaking in the motor...which was a little stubborn to start up. Brake from factory was set wrong....when you go to neutral on the throttle, it did a nose dive. Might need a little work there. Otherwise, this bad boy is popping wheelies and running great! Get one...you'll dig it! :D
I saw one of these in the local Hobbytown today. Wow. It's quite the truck, but it has quite the price tag too. $600 is a bit steep for me. :D

07-12-2004, 08:58 PM
I agree on the price tag. I dupmped my heli to get back into trucks...so that helped. Was debating between LST and Revo...went LST due to size, radio package, bigger engine, and killer shocks and tires. Anyone else stuck in that decision on the two trucks? More $$$ overall...but the XS3 is $239.99 by itself. Great package deal, I think.

I was torn between both trucks to, but made my decision same as you. Size, motor, shocks, already put m8 in it but xs3 can be sold or great back up. Plus I know how much I put in my tmaxx and its a great truck but I dont see alot on the lst to upgrade, its awsome so far. My starter fried so I have been using a drill, but truck is awsome.

Picked mine up on Monday, and had a few problems right off the bat.
1, the screws from the starter fell out after the first tank, just idling
2, the brakes aren't set up right, they dont work. and losi doesnt give you a hex wrench small enuff for the set screw.
3, Steering not responsive, and after only 3 tanks of gas the batteries are to weak for the reciever, and I think that did it. Need to get the rechargeable 5 pack, or I'm gonna go broke on the duracel's. plus the battery location sucks under the gas tank. Havent driven it after I changed the batteries, so I hope the steering isnt more than this.
Plus side, I killed 2 savage ss :) just wait till this baby is dialed in, think the slip gear needs adjustment, really have to wind her up to get moving off the line.
All in all I know this is a new model and will have a few bugs, but for 600 bucks it should be better out of the box than this. I just have to remind myself this is the hobby, and fine tunning is always gonna be needed, otherwise I'd be pissed at Losi.

Hey Wingz, Are your brakes super sticky and almost sound like something is grinding when you brake? I'm not sure what the hell is going on but they sound sick when giving even half brakes.

Had 2-speed probelms myself. Too much packing grease in the shift diff. Cleaned it out and re-greased. Shifts great now! Brakes were funky...had to trim off nylon tubing on the relief and re-adjust. Other than that...saw Revo yesterday...cool truck, but not in the league with the LST, I think!

The brakes on this truck (when they're adjusted) are silly strong. In fact I found them to be a little too powerful because the truck was doing front flips if I pushed the trigger about 1mm too far. It's a good problem to have because a lot of trucks don't have great brakes, but this one surely does. ;)
Speedtester - I think it has to do with the metal-to-metal brake set-up. Losi lists a B3606 hi-performance brake option, which I would speculate is a little smoother and less grabby.

07-20-2004, 01:02 AM
Sweet, I cant wait for some option parts. At the track the brakes were a bit better. The more I run the truck the better they seem to get. My first upgrade has to be a sway bar though. I get tons of body roll around the high speed corners (Little two wheel action happening)
Thanks for your help on my question.

Once I get my truck (i've gone over this a bit in my head, hahaha) i'll most likely add sway bars as well as using shock spacers inside to lessen travel a bit for racing............Jim

I saw one sitting in my LHS and got to check it out closely. I am concerned about the shock towers which seemed flimsy and the suspension arms which seemed to be the weak links. The track I am joining this weekend doesn't have an 1/8 scale class so I'm torn between the LST which I can't race and getting a Revo that I can run on Sundays. What to do??? BTW this will be my first Nitro truck as I am currently going to run a tweaked EMaxx and a new MF2. Suggestions?

well yea downtravel ones work like a progressive spring.. kinda like how a bump stop on a 1:1 car works..
well if you cannot run a bigblock on your track.. why even look at a big block truck?
the shock towers flemsy no.. i doubt that.. they are what i dcall due to its structure what seems a bad jump will break them.. and the arms on the LST or revo are both not strong points.. savage still wins on that..

Ya, the AIM, I miss seeing alot of people on that but with everything going on, I usually leave it off.
I run an auto repair shop 60 hours a week, work with Jason at J concepts(dot net) on our bodies and some of his 4wd stuff, then there is the painting each available night.....So i'm basically working about 80-85 hours a week....There is a little time I get to check E mails and keep track of my E bay stuff, LOL.
We are working on a new LST body, that will also fit the monster GT too!...Of course thats all day sunday, haha............ttyl, Jim

I picked up an LST off the shelf of a lhs near me...$599. Decent truck but I have the following comments;
1) Engine & starter work fine... engine needed adjustment prior to starting. Engine runs very well after break-in.
2) Rechargable battery pack a must...eats alkaline batteries w/4 servos. Pain to change under tank also. And they come loose while running...not good.
3) Very strong breaks...will flip if pressed hard.
4) Turning radius was lousy...adjusting EPA on radio corrected this problem.
5) Low gear setting seems to be useless to me...unless you pull or climb hills.
6) Not crazy about drive shaft end design, the side with the hex head set screws & pin. The set screw and pin vibrated out on my r/r/tire. Suggest removing set screws, applying red thread lock, and reinstalling prior to running truck. This may be a problem area. Get spares right away!
7) Truck seems to require a lot of throttle off the line...almost sounds like clutch slippage. See some post talking about popping wheelie...mine doesn't. Maybe I need to dial engine in better. Truck is large and heavy.
8) Seems to have a bit of slop in drive train right out of the box.
9) Jumps well and holds good in turns (tires stay on ground).
10) Quite fast in straight away.
All in all, nice truck. I put a deposit on a 2nd LST (for my son) but I think we are going to get something else. I don't regret buying the LST...I just don't want 2 of them. Maybe an Xray XB8 instead?

Jim - I hear ya with the whole being busy thing...I got a call from a local hobby store who wants me to run their car section, so between that and college this fall, I'm gonna be busy. Lately things haven't been too bad..Monday through Thursday are for recovering from the previous weekend, and then hang out and do the whole being-a-teenager-thing, but Friday morning comes around and we're at the track (I haven't had a weekend off in two months). Friday Adam and I leave for Sweden..but I have a feeling things won't slow down after I get home.

i installed a set of mugen shoes and 1.0 springs on my LSt due to stock clutch shoes slipping alot.. way to test what clutch is slipping.. tighten down teh slipper all the way and do some passes.. after i knew it was not that i changed the shoes..
stripped a plastic wheel hex the other day too, and had the ball for the rear track rod pull out of the the knuckle also.. so modded that.. but came in 3rd on a track i have not raced in over 5 weeks with it sunday

due to a test this week compairing my rossi 28 that i had in the LSt agains my rb 28 i have in a savage, i installed a 8 port race into it.. still lifts the front wheels but has more top end...
i also got my new gear and motor mount today.. wow if you want wheelies just keep it in low.. if you want speed pop it into high and your off..
yep it wheelies in reverse.. same gear ratio as low..
if you see my improvements im maiking for durability photos above and all.. the weak stupid stuff is getting covered pretty fast..
arms are cheap along with the shock shafts.. the trick is finding spare parts.. i have not damaged anything like that as of this moment.. but have a set off ebay on their way to me so when i do..

hey guys
I think that I am going to buy one of these trucks instead of the traxxas Revo I have heard that this truck has all the power that it needs.
Is this true i read that a couple people are having clutch problems.
What is this truck like to work on I sold my savage cause it was a pain and bought a GS SUT and love it but I want the bigger suspension travel back cause the SUT is more my racer.
CRSMP5
07-31-2004, 10:05 PM
this thing is cake to work on.. diff rebuilds for both ends in 20min pull the tranny in 5min if your slow..
it is also a better racer so far if you do not have major straightaways.. no gearing options yet, so the savage will kill it on a 150-300ft long straight..
stock the lst will pull harder and walk past the revo and max out on speed a few feet after the revo does..
i put mugen clutch shoes on mine.. solved the clutch slippage..
Monsterbrad
08-01-2004, 07:42 PM
I am going to buy one of these trucks here soon.
Anybody having any durability problems other than the stock clutch seems weak.
My SUT has the same problem with burning up clutch shoes but I fixed that with different shoes now the bearings keep going out.
Oh well
Any way anybody drag raced a Savage with this truck I have heard that it will kill the savage and any other truck for power matters.

08-01-2004, 09:20 PM
well ill give a rundown..
the 1st race last weekend i spoke of a few issues.. rear tierod ball pulling threads from the knuckle, plastic wheel hex stripping and it came in 3rd place cause the rossi 28 (performs the same as a mach26) did not have a high enough top end rpm wise to keep up with savages with piccos in them.. but toasted revo no issues
this week i installed a 8 port race i have into it, much more top end and no real notice of loss on bottom end..
i set tq for the day on mt in my 1st qualifier.. today i was racing savages, sut, and a revo with a sirro 18 in it. i won the A main with it.. got plenty of chances to drag race the revo has no chance, got to drag race the savage with picco 26 in it.. i pulled harder and toped later then him, got to drag a mach 26 savage and also cooked it..
if you have a LST i highly suggest a engine with a 38,000rpm.. next time i race that track im putting my ws7II in it.. just to see what 5,000rpm will add to it.. after seeign what 8k does.. i can oly imagine how sick it will be..
there does that help??? with the right engine for the track your running it is a pice of work..
Monsterbrad
08-01-2004, 10:33 PM
Sounds good to me.
I had an older p-5 that was awesome in a hyper 7 pro buggy (wish I never sold that thing)
any how the ws7II should make the thing realy rip hard that will be fun.
I am going to run it stock till that engine takes a crap.
Mike a Speed Zone told me that the stock engine for play is just awesome wheelies in reverse and forward.
Can't wait to get one of these trucks.
have to sell the Menace first.
Anybody want a used Menace in great shape had a crowd pleazer body on it new gears and clutch extra clutch

air filter...
vasoline the foam where it touches the plastic when running in stock location.. else it packs up dust sucks into the motor thru the ends.. in under a tank of fuel...
stock fuel filter leaks, replace it and position it away from stock location or will rub hole into tank

sounds like all the regular rtr issues that have haunted the savage and other rtr trucks.
I don't like the drive shaft problem thing thats a bummer.
Also what are the difs like on this truck are they 2 or three spider gear ones?
CRSMP5
08-02-2004, 10:04 PM
4 spider, buggy pinion and ring, actually the new mayhem buggy uses the same ones.. identical.. they come packed with grease but i have some 5k oil im mine now..
the dogbone thing plauged the 1st 2 baches of savages too.. there is a HD bone part number in the instructions though..
the sad thing is the cb is starting to wear some.. but you can buy those gears... you can also buy a bigger fuel tank, its number i sin the book, i assume it fills in the area they have for the 4aa batt holder under it.. the 5 cell stick is under the truck..
the shocks also leak new.. they need to be tightened up.. also part numbers fo rthe option springs in book.. along with threaded shock bodies..

Hello people
I see that this forum has been dead for days.
Well any way any of you that are reading this trying to make up your mind on which truck to buy.
All I can say is this.
After having a
T-MAxx
Savage
GS Storm SUT
Schumacher Menace
2 XXXNT's
T-4
and a few more
I can say that this truck is by far the best I have seen.
Power is just Awesome!!!!!!
Brakes are the best very powerful from the factory.
This truck is just a well thought out piece.
The only gripe I have about this truck is the drive train is a little rough when you spinn the tires on the stand with it not running or anything.
But it shifts into reverse nicely and just has gobs of power the best I have seen for an rtr Monster.
Save the extra cash and buy one its worth it.
The radio is awesome!!!!!!!!
Love this truck

check your gear mesh on the spurs and cb.. if one is tight it does that and HOPE that your internal tranny gear is not messed up like the one on mine was.. it was at a stand still not feelign right but when i went to drive it around it really showed up its issue.. give it a few tanks of simple runing to see if it smooths out.. if it does not you need to inspect for why... mine is real smooth now with proper gear mesh and the tranny gear replaced..

08-14-2004, 09:42 AM

I know what you are saying about the tranny.
Its smooth to a point but it still sounds a little gravely.
I am so happy with this truck.
Its awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats all I can say.
What gear did you replace in the tranny.
I am still running it completely stock.
LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok
did anybody read the rating in extreme rc cars.
I think that the ratings that this truck recieved were crap for the quality and the coolness factor of this truck.
I think thats its one of the best I have seen for power rtr ever.
I have had them all except for the revo.

I am wondering what tou guys think of the tnx vs the lst? I know it is a diffrent class, small block. For bashing though not racing, what do you think the diffrences are? Anyone have both trucks? I am trying to decide what truck to buy. The lst sounds like a sweet truck but with quite a few bugs. The tns also sounds like a sweet trruck with less out of the box issues. However I would think the lst being biger it would make it a better basher. Also the is the aftermarket suport. tnx has very little and it looks like the lst will have a ton. Anyone got any other thoughts on the matter?

Well here is what I think.
I have the LST and I think its the best truck I have ever owned.
I have had a T-maxx,Savage,GS SUT but that truck is in its own class.
I am not sure what to tell you about the TNX don't know that much about it but I do know that the radio and the equiptment that comes with this truck makes it the best.
I would buy one but don't let the outa the box blues get you to change your mind.
I got one from Speed Zone and its been awesome no problems just the tranny being a little rough but it seems to be getting better.
The power comparison between the 2 trucks will be none the LST has AWESOME POWER.

every issue ive had is listed on this forum.. besides that i love the truck.. i cannot wait for RPM to make some suspention arms though.. the one i broke had menace issue.. too much glass not enough nylon.. the CVds that someone needs to remake fo rit will also make me happy..
i just spent 50$ on ebay for it though.. a complete diff unit, arms, chubs, knuckles with bearings and spacers, batt holder for savage project, i need to find a new clutch bell mine is wearing, the teeth are becomming knife edged..
im still wanting to get a spare tranny to mod and remove 66% of the rotating mass from it..

I own a heavlily modded MGT and after seeing the LST at the hobby store im compelled to own both of these amazing trucks. I havent ever owned a Losi product, been an associated fan from day one. not sure exactly why. anyway, i am thinking of buying this truck... going over to the dark side... do you use it for racing or bashing or both? i run two MGT's and a 1/8th buggy at the local track. ive been pretty dominating with my MGT's. its an excellent race truck and i think both companies will be very competitive. most companies are now. in response to the revo being blown away... its in a completly different class at my track as it should be. like running a Pro stock dragster against a grand national. yeah both are quick but they dont match up at all.
anyway, i hope to land one of these truck in the upcoming week. any issues that have been of huge concern? or things to fix before i even start her up?

Hey CR whats a good basher???
I love my lst.
I use it only to bash not that new extreme stuff but i just ram it around and its awesome.
I think its like driving a big xxxnt thats 4 wheel drive and super fast.
This thing handles awesome outa the box and the engine is great on power.
I had the HPI savage 25 and it does not compare.
Yeah there are a few things about this truck that could be better but I think it awesome.
Buy one you will see what I mean.

08-27-2004, 07:12 PM
the sad thing is the best basher is the savage.. vs all the other options on the market it is the most durable.. im sure rpm will have a nice suspention set for the lst.. the arms have too much glass in them much like a menace.. when they snap you can hear it 10ft away.. a nylon/plastic mix will increase this..

i would say a high rpm engine... i love how the 8 port race smokes savages with picco 26 and 18t cbs when in a LST... and it still wheelies and has plenty of bottom end.. the gearing they pickes is great.. i honestly think a hpi 25 would move in the thing and kick a stock lst mach..

CRSMP5
08-28-2004, 02:14 PM
honestly your kinda stuck with the stock set up for exhaust.. it seems to perform good and all though.. what differance do you want? ace is now selling 1 piece rb pipes by the part (aka header or pipe but 80+$).. so you could install a rb pipe on it.. else your pretty much stuck due to the 1 piece header it has.. i myself would have liked a 2 piece design.. but this is what the mfg are trying to produce for some odd reason..
danieljk
08-28-2004, 02:56 PM
.. but this is what the mfg are trying to produce for some odd reason..
hmm, couldn't be so that they can come up with their OWN aftermarket pipe for more cash. just an idea.
CRSMP5
08-28-2004, 03:59 PM
losi has one thats polished.. but i think its a copy of the original one.. and i think its a thing for those fed up with exhaust couplers.. instead of designing a nice aluminum clamp sooner like the one company has they went to more gaskets and springs..
i need to find a LHS into on road 1/8th scale nitro to find a good fitting header to go back to a 2 piece design.. i like the tuning addition 2 piece pipes have vs the 1 piece design..
winning edge designs
08-28-2004, 11:59 PM
The one peice is actually considered far superior in racing circles. It is usually optimized already, for a given application, but there are adapters, like the ones Robin Nelson makes to tune for broader torque curve, etc. One peice pipes are more durable, since there are no "couplers" to blow out, which happens alot and no tie wraps to break, or slip off, causing a DNF during a race.
As far as manufactuers wanting to be able to sell products to us, Uhhhhhh, what would be the point of being in business otherwise? The truth is most of us are our own worst enemies when it comes to spending. We all convince ourselves we need the next hop-up to win, when in reality, we need more wheel time.........Jim

Hey Guys I need help with a problem on my LST after the first tank it started to make a noise coming from the clutch bell. Only ran two tanks through it. It is a rattling noise like the clutch isn't engaging yet.
Monsterbrad
08-29-2004, 07:03 PM
Pull the cover off the spur gears make sure they are good.
Then take them off and pull the clutch bell look at you clutch shoes make sure they are ok.
If all that is good leave the spur gears off and spin the trucks tires backwards to engage the tranny gears.
I know there has been a problem with a gear in there being machined wrong thats what I am betting it is.
Check all that and let us know.

I put Mugen alum Shoes on my LST with heavy springs the clutch locks up now and puts some power to the ground. Pulled front and back diffs filled with 10,000 oil and put some 40 series tires and wheels. Its the best big monster truck Ive ever had. I also cut gas tank primer off and pluged and changed fuel line and filter. I also pulled the carb and sealed. This truck rocks on our indoor and outdoor track. Dont forget to put a fail safe and temp gage on.

Is there a trick to getting clutch springs back on? I just bought some mugen shoes and springs going to try that.
CRSMP5
09-01-2004, 11:10 PM
honestly.. grow a 3rd hand and 2 screw drivers.. after doing it a few times you learn all the tricks.. i use a 2mm allen wrench thru the shoe/spring then let the flywheel pin push the wrench out as i slide it on, use the screw driver to slip the spring over the center post..
the 1st one is easy.. the 2nd and 3rd you have to use screw driver #2 to hold the shoe you just installed open a little else it hits the shoe your trying to put on

09-03-2004, 06:40 AM
back the screws out to 6-6.25 turns stock is 5 turns, MAKE SURE they do not hit the 2 speed aluminum clutch bell though.. basically between 6 and 6.5 turns they start to hit! and try.. mine is still at 6 out.. but it took a few runs to get it shifting great.. ALSO pull 1st gear and see if there is any grease on the shoes from the bearing.. mine took 3 clean up times till the 2nd speed bearing quit leakign grease all over the shoes...
CRSMP5
09-03-2004, 06:42 AM

Still won't work I back it out to 6 turns still won't shift. I took the 2 speed apart and there is basically very little grease. So took all the grease off of it and I am going to test it.

I'm getting kinda concerned about this LST. I heard its great and it killer on the track but from what I'm reading and seeing it seems like Losi has some serious issues on their hands. Lots of issues to get worked out. And with that said I'm worried that I will get the LST and it will be nothing but problems. I've heard a few people now says they've broken/sheared the drive shaft on it and countless other complain about tranny problems. Beginning to wonder if this truck is another tmaxx or not... Someone want to set the record straight? Is the truck being pushed really hard and things are breaking or are these design flaws?
CRSMP5
09-05-2004, 05:21 PM
the cvds are design flaws.. but on a different forum i read that the new updated versions are being done in 3 weeks (if starting to be made or avaliable is unknown to me).. from what ive also read the cvds that are on the production trucks are NOT the same ones that were tested originally and someone screwed up..
the truck is killer.. tranny.. there is no real issues, i think it comes down to proper radio set up, factory they did not, even the instructions are wrong on how to set up rev thru the radio, and thats a issue thats starting to become a issue cause no one knows this.. people like me know how to set up a jr radio properly so not a issue.. those new people with as crappy as the instructions are are gettin hurt..

Ok here is what I have to say about this truck so far.
If you are looking for the diggest badest monster on the market with all kinds of power and a great engine and radio all in one this is the truck.
All RTR's have there flaws.
The tranny thing has only haunted a few people with the very first run of production trucks.
The drive shaft thing is just a little problem,,,,,,,when you see the power and torque that this truck has you will understand why it breaks drive train parts.
The power is just awesome.
Plus they will fix the problems as they arise.
Look at traxxas they have the T-maxx down to a pretty good truck and if they can't fix the problem after market stuff will.
The LST just needs some time to get recognized a little more and some more aftermarket parts and this truck I think will be the best monster around as far a RTR trucks from the box with no mods.

Anybody get any factory hop-ups yet?
Monsterbrad

I would say just go for the Lunsford stuff.
They are a really good company.
But the fit might be a little strange where the losi stuff will go right in.
Factory stuff is always the best it might be more expensive but its designed at the factory where the truck was designed and built.
The only thing I have changed is the clutch and the drive shaft in the rear.

Hey does any body have any setups for the LST for racing.
here is another losi lst story :)
took my truck out today for the first time.. but before i did, i made a few changes. this is what i did before anything:
-installed wasp picco .26 w/ nova aluminum clutch shoes and stock lst springs
-10k front diff, 7k rear diff
-properlly set up radio!
well, to say the least. i broke the front right CVD just about at the end of its first tank! it broke at the diff end. the pin that goes through dogbone sheared off.. i took it home and drilled it out. installed a roll pin from the hardware store and i was back in buisness..
took it back out and halfway through the second tank, i sheared the pin inside the tranny. the pin that locks the main drive axles. this was partially my fault because the engine was reving high and i switched it into reverse.. i would rather that pin snap than the gears!
I also chipped a tooth on the 1st spd gear, still usable.. just have to keep that cover on al ALL times..
I must say however, that i was putting it through its paces pretty good.. these are jsut small problems (IMO) and usual RTR issues..
the truck performed really well. i was running with mu buddies BFT. he also has the wasp 26, so the comparison was pretty good.. he was getting me on the very top end. but i was rolling over the rough stuff with ease! the truck never got out of shape over the ruts..
more to come...

I took my truck out racing yesterday. I got 4th out of 10. It seems the shock fluid is to soft for some tracks. So I am going to put 40 in their. The tires don't seem that bad for racing ether. I didn't break anything just some scracthes on the bumbers and the skidplates. So I double side taped two pieces of lexan on the bottom. I did pretty good for my first time racing. The truck handled great. Can't wait to go racing next week to do better.
any of you LST guys try to fit 5 "AA" cells under the tank in a 3/2 stack? i just urdered some 2350 mah nimh cells.. it seems like it should fit..
here is a nice lst dedicated site:

That space under the tank is tight.
I am not sure about that!!!!!!
I tried getting a hump pack for the XXX NT truck under there and I had to use longer screws so that the tank could be a little higher.
Just use the straight 5 cell pack under the chassis.
It works the best and is outa the way.
HAd to re glue the tires for the first time.
Running great though!!!!!
Does eat reciever bats up though but I guess not that bad for how many servos and the weight of the truck.
the AA batts fit under the tank. but i had to trim off that lil plastic flap thats molded into the bottom of the tank.. the best part, 2300+ mah of power!

What wheels & tires fit the LST? Are they interchangable with the Proline 40 series wheels?
Monsterbrad
09-25-2004, 12:30 PM
I am pretty sure that the Maxx wheels and tires will fit on this truck.
I have not tried it but I did have my SUT Wheels on it once and I had the SUT wheels on my revo also.
The axles are standard 14mm hexes I think.
Just remember when you put lower profile tires on here you will lose the gear ratio and this truck has enough problems with keeping the front end down.

BUT hows thos for a solution.. this will not solve the stub axel issues due to its size, but hb lightning stadium cvd shafts are same leangth.. you will have to call hb though and ask them to buy a set... i have a lst axel in mine to replace the defective ones that were sent out installed in the 1st batch which have been fixed and should no longer be a issue..

How would tightening down the slipper help it would it just slow down the acceleration ALJR
MikeWz
10-04-2004, 01:23 PM
Tightening down the slipper will not slow down acceleration, no. It will help, because the pads won't slip. When the pads slip it allows the engine to spool up a little bit, and helps keep the tires under control on not so high traction surfaces. It's meant really for racing and for jumping. For jumping it's simply so that you don't fry spurs. Like, when you rev up your engine to balance yourself out, then, with the spur spinning so fast it stops all of a sudden from the wheels hitting the ground.
For racing, it can be tuned so that you can give full throttle and you won't sit and spin tires.
If you do tighten the down the slipper you WILL be able to wheelie on pavement, however, be warned when you're off-road slow speed starts will be much harder because your wheels will spin more.

I am about to ebay this thing.
But then again when its running good its hard to want to can it its just so much power......

mb.. did you try calling up hb to see about a set of cvd drive shafts? and much like you it was the main reason i got rid of mine.. just was no longer reliable.. once i hit 2 gal thru it every time i started it up it would break the axel going to the wheel.. even a new just installed one.. i sold it.. the guy who got it got a little over a gal thru it and now its eating diff cases.. which i supplied him a complete unit i had goten cause of this starting to pop up when i got rid of it..
also its the LSn.. when the throttle closes if its too lean it makes it rev up like that... not the HSN.. :)

I am suprised you guys are having so much problems. I have raced mine a couple of times, ran it around some parking lots and just went bashing at a BMX park and I haven't broke anything.
Hey does anybody know if they are going to come out with aluminum tranny cases from Team Losi seeing that they came out with Diff cases for pretty cheap.

i posted this on anther forum, but no response. I would liek to order this stuff tonight so i can get it at the sametime as my LST.
just ordered my lst yesterday.
I got a combo pack along with xtra glow plugs.
here is what i am getting:

Hobbico 850 AC/DC Auto-Charger
Racers Edge 1800MAH GLOW STARTER/CHARGER
DuraTrax Shark 6-Cell 1500mAh Sport Standard
fuel
pacer afterun
air filter oil
Thread locker
I am brand new to MH Nitro, so i may have some stupid questions.
I read i can use a 5 stick cell for reciever? if so does anyone have a link or name of a good one?
I read about clutch issues and they said use mugen shoes and springs, a link or something would help me alot on these.
Any advice or parts you guys suggest would be great, I want this to go as smooth as possible.
I have a friend with experiance to help me break it in and tune so no worries . He's just hard to get ahold of so i thought i would ask you guys.

Tell them Brad Pence told ya to call.
Hope they can help you out, also I know that a bunch of aluminum stuff was just introduced a week ago or so.

This truck is super cool you will like it alot.

You really have it out for this truck, don't you?
Many competition level touring cars, many 1/8th scale racing buggies, and all sorts of racing class cars in between use CVD's straight from MIP. Until Losi is able to fix this problem on their own, I'm sure the MIP units will be a great upgrade for the LST.

i owned a menace.. they have mip cvds, ive seen lots of savage ones break made by mip.. so to me mip is not a solution..
also the solution i beleive for th ecvd shaft its self is off a lightning stadium.. same length, and for all the lightning buggies ive owned/still have never needed one ever.. except the one stadium one that due to mfg defect and defect in design broke th ecross pin.. but that has been fixed and on a lst is of no issue..
I was trying to figure out how to fit a larger battery pack into the lst. My solution was to install 5 full size nimh "AA" cells in a hump configuration. This pack fits into the stock location with VERY minimal modification.
The best part about using full size "AA" cells is they have much higher capacity than the conventional hump or stick packs used for nitro receivers.. Currently, the highest capacity receiver packs are 1400mah. my pack has aprox. 1000mah more for a total of 2350mah (and the same 6 volts!)
This first pic shows the mods needed to the bottom of the fuel tank. There are two plastic flaps molded into the bottom of the fuel tank. These plastic flaps hold the stock 4-cell holder in place. you will have to cut one of the flaps off (my pic shows both flaps cut off, but you will only need to remove one). don't cut the flap off too much (too close to the tank), you don't need to and you don't want to weeken the fuel tank. Ok, so the flap that you WILL be cutting is the side flap, NOT the one directly behind the engine (flap closest to the pipe in the pic)...
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze5bqdx/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/tankbottom.jpg
This next pic shows the "AA" hump pack that i made. I plasti-diped it so dirt and water wouldn't get at it. Unfortunatly, i diped it too many times and increased its size too much (thats why it has been trimed in those two locations). i suggest if your gonna dip it also, not to do it more than once or twice. there is no need to clap the pack to the chassis. the fuel tank does a great job of holding it in place.. also, i ran the wire under the chassis.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze5bqdx/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/battery.jpg
This last pic shows the fuel tank installed and the nice fit! it also shows the second location on the pac where the plasti-dip was too thick

Thats cool
I just keep the 5 cell stick charged up after every outing.
It works well and does not have all the weight of that pack you are running.
I do like the bigger cells though they last longer than 4 or 5 tanks I hope.

10-18-2004, 10:02 PM
Usually, if the engine sounds like it is "4 strokin" it is too rich. If it does it off throttle, lean out the bottom a little. If it does it under power, lean the top ,this will also effect the shifting points, etc. Some are running these engines at 230 or so, so your still in the safe zone, maybe too safe? Temperature is a little weird to tune by only. A rich bottom will keep an engine with a lean top end cool and vice versa. Pay attention to when it acts up, for example, worse hot or cold, low or open throttle, etc. If it is better cold, too lean, if it runs better after heating up a bit, too rich...............hope this helps, Jim

Ok I will check the head bolts and the seal thing well I tried that with my savage and it made it worse.
I heard that this engine is just awesome from a bunch or people I guess the 4 strokin thing just might have to go till it blows up as long as it runs good.
I have tried running it hot but it does not like that.
It seems to run better around 200 or so.
Right now its shock shaft is broke and needs the spring retainer from a collision with a T-maxx.

Most monster trucks use a 3mm or at best a 3.5mm shock shaft, the LST uses 4mm.....The problem with a larger shaft is oil displacement goes up dramatically, creating new problems.
I am wondering if there is a way to reverse the arms, so the shock is behind the uppers and in back of the lowers?..hhhhmmmm, Jim

Hey guys! Looks like another great season right around the corner! We have moved to the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds. The address is 127 N. Elm St. Jefferson OH 44047. We will be racing in the MAC building. I expect to have signs posted so you can easily find the building once inside the fairgrounds.
The name will be Ashtabula R/C Speedway. We will be open sat.Oct. 16th for electric only. Doors open at 9am, racing at noon. Sun Oct. 17th will be nitro racing only. Doors open at 8am racing at 10am. Tuesday Oct. 19th will be electric only, with the doors open at 5pm, racing at 6pm. There is not another nitro night as of yet.
Nitro will be ran on sundays for 4 weeks. At the end of the trial period we will decide if nitro will stay or not.
The track will be approximately 40x80 with a clay suface and hope it to be similar to last year. We will be using an AMB lap counter this year so that personal transponders can be used. We will once again have food and drinks available.
I will keep everyone posted as more information comes available. Feel free to email me with any questions at emod15_777@yahoo.com

well meet me up there next sunday and we will take a look at your tuning.. :) i know i can solve the issue... and yes mt is a major class to race.. the only thing im competing against (rest of the mt is no competition it seems like) with the lsp is the lst there i hope your more of a challange.. if i would have known you were by erie id have given you the scoop months ago!! the outdoor k&b track you would have loved.. the indoor "gas chamber" as we have been callign it on sundays is just a way to run nitro all year.. took some arm twisting to get us nitro people a place to play.. was only supposed to be electric on tue nights and sats.. he agreed to test nitro on sundays for turn out and so far he sees we are serious and wanna play..
now, we have 1 thing that you need to be prepped for.. we are using personal transponders, aka plug into the receiver, the clip style system is a 2500$ thing, this was far less.. BUT the lst is going to have a major issue if you still have rev in it..
you know how th esteerign servos has a Y adapter to hook them into the receiver? you need to get one for a extra port to plug the transponder into.. the sut a $2.50 extension from receiver or a Y adapter if not 3 channle receiver makes life much easier.. if you know how to solder, a few extensions are cheaper then the 10$ Y adapter.. i can do this if you do not know how too.. just let me know i can get teh extensions for 2.50 each+tax..

BUT i truly gotta say take a look in the hb stadium thread for a idea of the size of the track.. its nothing "big" im turning a avg lap of 27sec.. some buggies are hitting 22 sec laps.. most of the mt class is 33sec laps.. so i dont want you to think its some huge track or anything and be dissapointed.. its more of a where to play and know rain nor snow can stop our fun.. id say of todays 30 racers.. only 5 are real good (you know the kind.. yell and scream when they not happy), 10 are ok the rest is we are here to have fun kinda people.. dont knwo what to class myself as i see no reason to yell at anyone, but im also there to have a good time and look to have side by side competitive racing...

Nice truck.Stripped spur gears can be caused by a number of things but if it didn't happen because junk got caught them like rocks, branches, small animals etc.... then check your motor mounts, gear mesh between pinions and spurs, tranny mounts and also check the small brace that sits between the chassis plates near the motor. If you jump much that particular piece seems to break occasionally and was the cause of one guys stripped gears.
If it's because stuff is getting caught in there I'd suggest you make a back cover out of thin aluminum that fits fairly close to the slipper basket and clutch bell. Also close off the bottom opening with tape or incorporate it in your cover at the same time as stuff can get thrown upwards into the cover.Losi will offer something similar but it's not out yet.
Hope this helps

Here are a couple pic of my lst roll bar that i made the other day... i may start selling them if there is any interest (send me a pm).. there made from spring steel and aluminum mounts.. seem the be real durable so far and fairly light as well.. only requires drilling one hole and removing one of the 4-cell battery wire holders..
i wanted to keep the mounts as close as possible to the side braces for maximum support..
notice the height.. its above the engine, and far enough back so it fits under the body nicely..

the indoor track colt? www.mapquest.com 127 N. Elm St. Jefferson OH 44047 use the drivign directions and your home addy as from and 127 N. Elm St. Jefferson OH 44047 as destination..
in a jist of it,
i90 west
sr11 south (2nd exit once in ohio)
sr167 west aka turn right (i think use mapquest) its the next exit once you get onto sr11)
about 5 miles west on that you will come to sr 46, go south a few streets, turn right at im using s walnut street, fair grounds will be on the right of that, cannot miss them, turn right around the back of them, aka after you pass them, then drive to the open gate.. after your inside you pass 2 buildings, then turn left onto a drive way, the MAC building is there, will be cars scattered, there is a platform that once was used to milk cows across from it.. i would still mapquest the directions then a map of the area the track is in, there is more then one street you can take but its very easy.. there is a hardees south of it so if you get to it you went to far, but they have breakfast and can tell where it is if your dumbfounded..

i did a search, and i couldn't find any answers,so here goes. has any one else had a notchy feeling driveline in their lst, when new? i know a lot of gear driven drivelines feel notchy when new,but others aren't.

I've been thinking about buying an LST. Is it a good truck and also could you run 15% in the engine

notchy driveline, do yourself a favor, make sure the brakes are not applied at all.. aka give it full throttle and then see..
mine has a improperly machined lsg that caused me issues though...

an improperly machined what? i know that the notchiness is in the gears because they are new and need to be broken in. i'm only wondering if other people had the same thing when their trucks were new,or if mine is a little tighter than others.

Can someone please let me know what is the actual lenght of the LST Shocks when fully extended. Also the lenght of the shocks body.
Thank you

Will a regular ol' 3x2 hump pack receiver pack work in the LST? There are two places to put packs, right? A 3x2 under the tank and a 5-cell flat pack down lower in the chassis?

A 3X2 will brobably be too tall for under the gas tank, I would go with a 5 cell sideXside pack and put it under the truck in the appropriate place.

Yep I have that exact same configuration in mine.both at 1100 mah gives me a total of 2200 mah of battery life.Enough to generally run until I'm exhausted from the experience

Hey CR????
Will you be there this sunday???
I have modded up the Revo for some race action!!!!!
I know I am no competition for your Hot bodies but thats ok.
I will still have fun.
Any way if you will be there I would realy realy like that body.
That would be GREAT!
Thanks in advance

Running two receiver packs will not give you twice the capacity, only twice the voltage. I wouldn't run two packs because you may risk blowing up servos, and you will not gain any runtime.

well sort of.. if you run the batts in parelle they are same voltage, BUT then it forces one to charge the other which is a BAD thing.. nof it if was run in series it would be 12v.. and the electronics would let the elusive smoke out that makes them work...
p.s. got a ee degree.. :) it was determined in lab that smoke is what makes electrical components work cause once you let it out it no longer works.. so as long as it stays inside the electrical item it will work till let out..
hey mb still got the menice? if so bring her along..

Hahahaha. Thanks for the educated post! Breath of fresh air on a message board, that's for sure.
No EE degree (studying English/Journalism) but I'm fresh out of high school physics class. Nice joke about smoke though, I'll have to remember that!

Hey CR!!!!
My revo is ready
I will be there tomorrow as well.
Not sure that I will be there right at eight but I would like to have to extra time on the track due to all the changed I made to the truck.
C-ya tomorrow.
Anybody heard about drive shafts for the LST yet???????????
I have SUT tires and wheels on it that are smaller than the stockers cause they are easier on the drive train I think.
HOLY bottom end though this truck is awesome for power stock and the smaller tires just make it all the more crazy ..........

Hey guys. I have a buddy about to buy a monster truck. He really likes the LST but wants to know what kind of roll bars are out there for it. I saw the home made one above but I would like to see some more options. Does anyone have any links to LST roll bars? Also I have seen alot of things about the wheels nut striping, is this a problem everyone has? How do you solve this problem? Thanks!

bring the LST with ya.. also pop over to the lsp thread and leve your feedback there on what ya saw today.. :)
also LST won gaschamber today on revo tires... cause i ran out of gas in the last 200ft of track...

Reciever battery/s......Running multiple reciever packs will not harm anything if run in parallel. In a series would be too much voltage, but in parallel only adds capacity and won't effect voltage at all...you could run 10 packs in parallel, but the weight would be the only factor.......Jim

i disagree with that, the packs would try to self equalize their voltage by charging the weaker of the 2.. nimh does not like that and could cause a issue.. to add in a diode to prevent it would drop the voltage by .7v (amount of voltage diodes require to work) so makes trying it kinda usless.. mount 2 batts, one under tank, and 5 cell stick, then just unplug one and plug in other when its time to change..

Been running 2 packs connected in parrallel for months now and no problems.I charge them both at the same time through the same jack as well and trickle charge them.I could see issues with peak charging both at the same time (Although I've done that as well once or twice) but hardly with trickle charging.Just relating my experience not meaning to argue with a Certified Electrical Engineer me being a lowly Building Inspector and all ;)
i like running my 2300mah single pack! it avoids any problems, saves weight and easilly lasts all day...

Came home last night from racing just sick of the Slow Revo.
Ran the LST and then felt better.
I heard there are drive shaft mods in the near future....

got some hop ups/badly needed parts this weekend. First was the fully adjustable shock bodies, high lift springs for the fronts, secondary gear cover, front a-arms and the much needed chassis rails I destoyed last weekend after the truck smacked a telephone pole. Here are a few pics of the new parts!!!

Hey i have a couple a questions for everybody. I ordered a graphite chassis plate from losi and i was wondering if i was better off getting the HD hard andozied chassis plate? If you really just go bashing you should think about getting the steel gear set. Any of you guys try different pipes?
CRSMP5

well my issue with cf.. the section teh engine sits on has to be metal.. if not it will not last, engine vibration, bad jump an dstuff will mostlikely damage cf

Hey I called Horizon today and talked to them about the 4 strokin thing with this engine.
They told me to try a McCoy 59 or 9 plug and see if that makes it any better.
I am not sure about the mc 9 I have that in the revo cause its a cold plug.
Oh well anything will help at this point.
Anybody lookin for parts for their LST go to ebay right now there is tons of parts available!!!!!!!!
CRSMP5
11-26-2004, 08:56 PM
ohhh mc59 for sure.. i did not know you were runnign anything else.. i spent alot of time on mikes figuring out that its the only plug ive found to make it reliable, the mc9 is too cold for it..
winning edge designs
11-26-2004, 09:51 PM
There are instances where a colder plug will help you out. It all depends on your settings, if you have your low end a little leaner then you should, the colder plug will help stabilize the low end. If your set a little rich(like most are), the hotter MC-59 will be the correct plug for a decent idle.
Remember, the rating of a glowplug(hot, cold, etc) does not determine how hot or cold the engine runs, but rather how much heat is needed to maintain a lit plug. A hotter plug is less likely to foul since it uses a thinner wire or is less shrouded and therefore maintains in a richer engine. The tradeoff is a hotter plug is more fragile..........Hope this helps, Jim

mb is 2 hr ne of me.. the people i know in upstate ny that have been usign this engine enough to wear one out has also experimented, mb he will be at the gas chamber on dec 12th, i think thats the week your in columbus though, but i garentee if i cannot solve it he can.. but he has tried multi plugs and confirms that the mc 59 is the best choice for the engine.. he could also not get a mc9 to work in it..
another thing a hot to cold plug changes is engine timming..
on the gaschamber track ive also found to lean the LSN more then normal but richen the HSN as all but the 2-4sec long WOT run up the straight is the only point the HSn is used.. BUT also rember the ambient air temp.. pit area is warm vs the track and even with a hot plug it is hard to start.. the 1st day of races there 100+pulls to get stuff runnign due to all the summer racers in 40f temps the glow plugs did not like to get warm and stay warm..

Team Losi offers it. You can find it at horizonhobby.com. It was in hot news and products forum a week or two ago. Hey is the pipe that comes with the LST a 2 piece.
Monsterbrad
11-27-2004, 02:38 PM
Yes it is the pipe and header are 2 pieces.
It seems like it works realy well cause the engine has all kinds of power just not that many rpm's but this engine is not rated for tons of rpm's...
I was thinking about maybe giving this truck a try at the track but I have the LSP now for that...
This truck is an awesome basher though
I love it for that just so much freakin power stock
IT"S AWESOME!!!!

Colt, the stock pipe comes in two seperate peices, if dissassembled, but is the "one-peice pipe" that is held together with three small springs and a gasket, rather then a coupler that can blow out.....Jim
