Is the 2 piece design the one with the spring type coupler or is that for both one and two?

CRSMP5
11-28-2004, 07:04 AM
spring type is 1 piece, rubber coupler is 2 piece

Colt M4
11-28-2004, 02:30 PM
Then wouldn't the stock pipe be one piece?

Monsterbrad
11-28-2004, 02:34 PM
I have had a few times when it sounds like the pipe is leaing when the truck has flipped hard.
But when I go flip it back over it always goes away.
I was always a fan of the coupler till I had the LST with the spring clamp like a snowmobile or dirt bike has...
It seems to work well but I have never had the zip tie coupler come apart either...
Oh well If I were to buy a pipe for the LST I would probably try to find a 1 piece novarossi one or something like that!!!!!
I was looking over my truck the other day while I was sealing the carb up with some high temp silicone and I did notice that the rear plastic braces were all worn ....
Anybody else see this?????

Colt M4
11-28-2004, 02:55 PM
Hey is there a way to use a silicone type coupler with a different pipe without cutting off the end of the header?

CRSMP5
11-28-2004, 03:26 PM
buy a onroad header... solves the issue, just make sure to buy a 2 piece design.. and again, on acehardwarehobbies they now sell the 1 piece rb pipe with out a header.. if i still had a LST id buy the 063 or 086 depending on what i was after.. P.S. a complete ofna system is less then the rb pipe.. th ecomplete rb pipe is like 140$ and they save you 60ish for no header

Monsterbrad
11-28-2004, 04:55 PM
I like the stock pipe its good for now...
I am thinking that I might give the truck a try on the track but i am not going to race it thats what the HB LSP is for.
THis truck is just fun to drive.....

CRSMP5
11-28-2004, 06:57 PM
well mb.. once the issue of truggy and mt is created, you can race them both :) in 2 different classes..

Monsterbrad
11-28-2004, 07:17 PM
THis thing is def a Monster truck thats for sure.....
I think that the revo's should be in there own class also...
Oh well
Anybody hear anything about better drive shafts for this truck yet????
I have not.

11-28-2004, 07:36 PM
I have watched LST's with stock pipe and engines run and they pull wheelies with ease when the clutch and engine are tuned right.....Strong engine, RTR or not....sounds like a good pipe to me?

I have heard people are wanting the LST driveshafts for use in truggie conversions and the hot bodies truck, etc......are they fragile? Or only for a 13 lb truck?

As far as classes, imo, the Revo and LST should be in the same class, as well as a ton of others, one has a bigger engine and more weight, both have center transmissions and front and rear diffs below the chassis plate....aka, monster truck.

Truggies= 3 diffs and all above chassis plate............................Jim

the LST shafts ive never had a issue with except i broke 1/2 the pin at the diff on my truck #427 then i got 2gal out of it then put in a NEW cvd LOSI supplied me for the broken one (they gave me a total of 4 for this), before it ever got to 1/2 tank wheel rolles away where the stub axel snapped at the cup, so put ANOTHER new one in, same thing, put original stubaxel back in, no issue get tank of fuel, next tank a different one snapps and wheel rolled away, put new one on, 1/2 tank later wheel rolled away.. put last new freebie i got from losi in and sold truck, while waiting on 2 more free new ones to arrive.. if i cannot get 1/2 tank out of something i get mad, bought the hb truggy, which has a LST shaft in it that im still trying to break..

CRSMP5
11-28-2004, 08:13 PM
p.s. truggy = no type of gear reduction before center driveshafts... much simpler to classify.. i can make a savage truggy with TVPs.. with no center diff by using a ofna style 2 speed, and its still a truggy with my decription... ;)

I put some Mugen aluminum shoes in my LST because I couldn't stand how many rpm the stock clutch needed to get the truck moving, but all I had on hand were 1.1mm springs. It's definitely better than stock, but I'm thinking the 1.0mm springs would be even better. Would those of you with experience with these clutches and LSTs agree?

Monsterbrad

Hey CR this is the Monster truck forum here.
ha ha ha ha
Oh well all that matters is who can stay together for the entire race day.
I have to say that I would worry about breaking the LST if I were to race it.
The only truck that I have raced and not had any problems with is the Revo sorry I know this is not the revo page but still.
Even though it has a 1/4 of the power that the LST does its still pretty tough and reliable.
I am going to try the LST and LSP on the track if either gives me to many problems then I will sell the LSP again and go back to the revo and just keep bitching about no freakin power.
Course cr can help out when it comes to making things relaible as he has had both trucks.
Oh well the LST is a great basher as I have said before....
No sale there

11-28-2004, 10:11 PM
I'm having a hard time picturing a Savage in other then an expensive conversion form being competitive in the truggy or unlimited class. With the tall chassis plates and low mounted diff cases the majority of the weight would need to be above the driveshafts, which is not how a truggy is........This is where truggies get the majority of thier advantage, low weight and low in the vehicle center of mass.......A good enough driver can out do a truggy owner of course, but for the average racer there is a difference, Jim

Monsterbrad
11-28-2004, 10:32 PM
I suppose you are correct cr will say differently.
I will say that the truggy has a huge advantage over the monsters cause of the weight idea..
Take the lsp and the lst
they are so different in weight that its amazing...
I will say though for bashing that the LST is the truck its heavy able to plow stuff over and is just a ripping maching.
I would not put a race revo or a LSP up against a LST for a all out bash session cause the three trucks are just too different.
THE LST is for monster truck duties wheelies running in the snow a little mud climbing hills and all that.

I was breaking the front cvds in my lst at the cup on the stup axle, I put in the mip cvds and have not broke them again. I use this truck to race at my lhs. I run proline bowties in the standard size. I changed out the mach 26 for a sirio s27xl racer and a 9863 rb pipe. This truck has unreal bottom end with the sirio.

I thought the only header that fits is the stock one. Does anyone know which is the best for the stock motor? I was looking into the Vantage Racing Carbon Fiber pipes.

I bought the pipe by itself and used the stock header. I beadblasted it so it is a natural silver color.

My truck is still all stock with carbon clutch shoes from Racers Edge...
I think the stock pipe works great...
What kinda difference are we talkin here in power with a different pipe and the stock Mach 26?????

The stock pipe is a very good pipe, but for the bling factor the Vantage pipes will easily get the nod!........Jim

I want titanium shafts they will hold up I broke an axle today but I ran into a tree prett hard so thats my fault.
Got it running perfect today..
THis truck just has way awesome power...
TOO MUCH FUN

12-04-2004, 08:43 PM
Unfortunatly, Titanium isn't nearly as strong as the tool steel used for the pins in the stock truck and in CVD's. Titanium is good in applications were aluminum is the right weight, but not strong enough, but steel is stronger then needed and to heavy.

The stock LST axles have been holding up well and we're actually using them in the Hot Bodies Stadium trucks. CVD's are ridiculously expensive but good quality, $50+ dollars for two. That's $150+ to outfit the truck with all 6......ouch!................Jim

Yeah my buds LST is nearly a gallon and he has had no issues with anything..
Clutch shoes are good no broken shafts anywhere....
He got a second batch one I think cause all his tie rods and everything have lock nuts on them with longer screws...
I am going to call Losi this week to see if they will send me the new screws and all that.....

I finally got through the break-in period, did a wheelie combined with a little air off a curb, landed on the back wheels, and broke an axle. Great. I'm with MB though, so far it's a really, really fun truck with surprising power!

Monsterbrad
12-05-2004, 06:51 PM
Call LOsi they should give you another pair....
I am calling tomorrow cause I had it out today after I kicked but with the LSP at the track and it broke another shaft wrist pin...
This drive shaft issue is ticking me off...
Oh yeah I finally found the 4 strokin thing with the LST also..
The HSN oring is junk and its sucking air there...
Another issue to talk to losi about the engine is not that old and it needs a new one already..
I am hoping that they will take care of all this...

How does one go about contacting Losi, MB?

Also, could you describe your "four-stroking" situation? What does it do or sound like? Mine is running well except it wants to stay at moderate rpm for a few seconds after I let off the throttle.

fishfrmr
12-06-2004, 05:35 PM
I know the mip cvd's are expensive but I have not broke a stub axle or pin since I installed them. The sirio 27xl has alot more torque than the the mach

CRSMP5
12-07-2004, 12:04 PM
the 4stroking sound is a exhaust rinnging.. after a WOT pass when goes back to idle, kinda like the LSN is too lean, the pipe makes a ringging sound.. got to hear it on the LSP sunday.. also its not a 4 stroking sound.. its completly different, 4 stroking is associated with being too rich which is why the whole thing confused me as much as it did.. its a sound you try to acheive on a over rich engine during break in..

normally on most nitro engines, without 1 piece headers you can adjust the pipe length to eliminate it... as it loads up it goes away.. so i fanythign its from runnign the LSN a tad too lean.. but in the race set up, this is almost needed, expecially on the tracks that are small where your running 90% of the time on the LSN, now on the big tracks that one day ill have to invite mb to see, the reverse is true.. its WOT 90% of the time so you use the LSN for added cooling.. but its a good 2.5 hr from mb.. but speed and big air is fun as its like driving on the edge of insanity

losifreak2004
12-07-2004, 12:31 PM
Being "on the LSN' 90% of the time means you'd be idling around the track. The LSN only affects air/fuel mixture and idle and nearly the first 10% of throttle.

Monsterbrad
12-07-2004, 09:50 PM
yes you are correct about that losifreak
but I thought that too....
If you tune the engine for different situations you will seee how the low speed needle tuning can effect engine temp...
its hard to explain till you see how it works...
Just remember keep smoke comming from the pipe evenly amost all the time..
That helps...
The LST has a pipe that emits this strange sound some of the time..
Just tune with a good trail of smoke and watch the temps

CRSMP5
12-07-2004, 11:16 PM
no the lsn is in effect till the spray bar is removed from the HSN.. as long as its in the orface for the HSN it is controlling the engine... spend some time with your carb looking at when it is all the way out.. at 1/2 throttle on most engines the LSN is still in effect.. on the smaller tracks over half throttle is not that common, unless you crash alot, with the rb 28 and rossi 28 over half throttle is not very often on the small tracks expecially the indoor one mb is using..

spend some time limit yourself to lets say 75 ft max wot pass followed by abunch of turns and jumps where your on and off throttle ever sec or 2.. for 20 sec then the 75ft wot onto brakes into the next turn.. figure your WOT for 40-50ft of that 75ft if you want to make a hard 90* turn.. again its 90% lsn in use..

i spent a good 10 min sunday with mb on this theory at the track showing him on his engine.. thsi is something i came up with when trying to get a ws7II in tune... imagine making a engine run cooler leaning it out, ive found a major flaw alot of people do including myself till i figured this out is when you run the LSN fat, you know fatter is better, you compensate by leaning in the HSN and then temps get out of hand and performance suffers... to lean the LSN and richen up the HSN made such a world of differance that mike (my pit person) was like how did you do that... he watched the temps drop a good 20f just by leaning in the lsn and not even touching the hsn..

then came the quest of the "follow the smoke trail" ive found if i come from a WOT pass, stop, count to 3 or 4, then nice off the line to WOT pass with a even smoke trail made a world of differance in performance.. this is where you start to under stand where the HSN and LSN are in effect.. set up your LSN fat and lean the HSN if your doubting how long the LSN is in effect.. make this smoke trail as even as you can, be carefull you must know what needle to touch, set it up even.. i think you will see im not as full of it as you think i am..

if you doubt this, just ask mb as after i set it up he played with needles.. then temps went up, did not run as good, i think he went back to my settings, but he will have to tell.. :P

winning edge designs
12-08-2004, 07:50 AM
In actuality, the two needles for fuel settings on our carbs are really only ballpark adjustments. Niether work for a perfect setting, but both work out of thier range a bit. In a fullscale carb there is an accelerator pump shot that goes with initial fuel spray, as well as a power valve, or similar for full throttle. There are also much better metering venturies, etc in fullscale carbs. Ours only have two needles that if set right will be a little too rich for ideal at idle, and get gradually too lean as we get into the hsn. Then as we start using the high speed needle we're usually too rich at first and become too lean towards wide open throttle, the longer it's held open, the leaner it will become......For our carbs to be ideal, we'd need about 7 or 8 needles or more biult in fuel boster style ports, etc. but then alot of racers would be lost, LOL. We even get messed up with 3 needle carbs, which control when the lsn to hsn transfer happens..............Lets race, Jim

how durable is the truck? is it 1/8th or 1/10th<<<dumb question. how does it compare to the revo?

Monsterbrad
12-10-2004, 11:37 PM
I have the Revo and the LST....
NO COMPARISON AT ALL>>>>
The revo is a little truck that is great for all around everything even racing..
THE LST will do what the Revo does and more and way faster..
AS far a durability is concerned
it just depends on how you drive the truck..
YEs the REvo I feel is more durable but there is also half the Power on tap...
I love the big block power ...
NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT.
I have bad news guys
I was running 30$ in mine blew a plug and got the coil into the engine...
I have a engine less LST now

Hey fellas. Just got a used new LST that has about 8 tanks through it from what i was told? Got a pretty good deal without radio and receiver as I had the radio and receiver already? Anyway i am having some engine probs and 2 speed or clutch probs also i think? I dont really know but you tell me? Bye the way it is a bad ass truck!
So first i tried to get it running. Now it was about 20 degrees with the wind chill, and it was windy! Now the engine starts right up! It also idles really well! But when the throttle is hit even the littlest bit it will ussually stall or sputter ALOT and then stall? It feels like it does not want to rev? So i tried to get the thing to rev for about 10 minutes with it starting and stalling about 20 times? I left the ignitor on alot of the time also as it was annoying putting in on and off? I had it the carb set to the manufacturer reccomended settings. I finally got it to sound the best at almost the exact manufacturer settings. About 2 hours off in some cases? Cant remeber whether it was high or low needle that was off alittle? Anyway the engine would also sputter alot and to me seemed as if alot of fuel came out of the pipe? And when it was revved it smoked black smoke alittle? I finally thought to just let it sit and idle for awhile as it might have been to cold or something? After letting it idle for about 3 minutes or so it would then let me hit the throttle just alittle, but not much moe then before, but it was better? By this point i had almost gone through a tank of gas? But I am not understaning whats up? PLEASE HELP IF AYOU CAN!!!!
The other problem is about the 2 speed or clutch? I am not familiar with Monsters? I had a MTX3 and I know all about that? But this truck seems to have, or does have a totally different clutch? And then there seems to be another clutch behind the 2 speed. You know the 2 metal plates with the 3 white plastic plates between them? Whats that?
Anyway whe I got it to run just alittle I put it in gear and it would not move at all? I had to rev it pretty high to get it to move at all, and it seemed to be lacking power getting to the wheels? As if the engine was going but the wheels were lacking the engines power totally? It did move alittle, but only when I spurted alot of power or a high rev to it? Whats that mean? I dont kow how to adjust these clutch, or clutches? Please HELP GUYS!!!! I am desperate and really just want to use this bad looking monster! You can email me or post but if you really think you can help please post if you want but also definitley email me and maybe I can give my number and we can talk! Below here is the email address. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Thanks

OK. Well today i tried to get the LSt rnning again and it worked ut OK. Now I have it tuned right and it ran alot better then yesterday? Still alittle while before you can hit the throttle alot but once I had it leaned out on the carb it ran fine. BUT BUT BUT!!! Now I am stil having the clutch problem? The engine revs and the wheels take alot to grab or whatever? I mean i rev it up alot and then it will grab. It just seems to be very loose or whatever? Nothing like my centex on my MTX3? On the MTX3 i know how to adjust? Its easy? But this I have no idea? I am guessing it is just an adjustment problem? Let me know PLEASE!! Thanks

The sputtering and dying is thanks to the combination of a rich-running engine and the cold temps. Just be sure not to lean it out to get the temps up. Cold air is dense air and it needs more fuel to provide the proper ratio than in warmer weather. I'd suggest wrapping aluminum foil around the head when the temps are below 40 degrees to keep some heat in it. Do you have a temp gun? You really want to get the temps up to around 200 degrees for proper break-in and running, just don't lean it way out to achieve that.

As for the clutch, I experienced the same thing, as did many others. That's just the way the stock clutch is set up and it can't be altered with stock parts. Many people are switching to aluminum shoes (usually Mugen) and the springs to go with them (1.0mm Mugen springs are most often recommended). I did the switch, but used 1.1mm springs because that's all I had on hand, and it was noticeably better than with the stock clutch. The 1.0 springs would be ideal, I think.

So unfortunately you'll have to replace the clutch if you want it to move with fewer rpm, but once you do, you'll love this truck! Amazing power and stability!

I am going to say that when its that cold out try not to run the engine..
Its very hard on the piston and sleeve...
The engine never gets to tempeture....
Buy a junk 26 ofna and run that...
The Mach is a good engine for the money and the winter will take its toll on it.
I have been there with my savage last winter...
I am rebuilding my mach engine 40 bucks piston and sleeve...
Also picked one up complete with pipe and clutch off ebay for
140 shipped

did you try to tighten the "slipper clutch"? the slipper clutch is those three white disks behind the spur gears.. to tighten is, you use the screw on the face of the spur gears, the one with the spring under it.. tighten it down so it bottoms out (but do NOT over tighten it or you will brake the bearing under it), then back it you a 1/4 to 1/2 turn..

if ti still is not grabbing, pull the clutch bell off and see if your clutch shoes, clutch sprins and clutch bell bearings are all in good working condition.. also see if there is execssive greese inside the clutch bell...

if nothing else works, check the one-way bearing that is inside the 1st speed spur gear. if it is bad, it will spinn freely in both direction. if it is working properly, if will only spin free in one direction and it will hold the shaft in the other..

the sputtering problem you mentioned before is caused from running the engine too rich.. to lean it out, turn the needle in 1/8 turn at a time till it will rev-out.. if you do a search in this forum, im sure you will find a thousand threads on how to tune an engine...

Well it really seems as if this clutch is ****? I mean it is so weak that it is not even worth keeping? I mean it is really really weak! I could not even climb over a small rock i dont think? I have been looking at the clutchs availabkle and the Fiornio or the Werks look pretty good, werks being cheaper in money? Though i was wondering if it is cheaper in durability? I am guessing it is not? I mean a clutch is something i woudl have wantd to upgrade anyway? I mean I was into on-road before this and having a centex that you can adjust is great! So i am gona try and figure this clutch for now but definitley get a new one? I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations or if they know anything about the Werks and Fiornio clutches?
Also i read the thread right before this one. The guy says something about the bearing wich made me think? The other day i tried putting my MTX3 clutch oni the truck. Whenh I got to trying to take of the flywheelo nut, you know the one that hold the flywheel in place and is under the shoes. Anyway I loosened it up and then it would spin the engine when I tried getting it off? I mean there is NO way to get it off now? Any suggestions? I mean its not like I can stop the engine from turning or grab the crank? The crank would break and I dont think there is a way to get the engine to stop turning? Let me know. Also does anyone think the centex would work on the LST? It loks like it would? I mean its the same size? I would just use the LST clutch bell? Also after reading the guys post about the bearing being bad i figured maybe that was the problem as he said it would nt let the thing turn both ways? Though i might be wrong? Let me know.
Lastly I was thinking if not buying a new clutch right away then maybe getting new springs as someone mentioned? I was wondering ich are the best to get or would work? Are those alluminum ones any good? Also what rate would i want? have heard the 1.1 are good? Whats the diffrenece? Thanks

Well! Its finally pretty nice!! I must say the engine is running really strong! I mean fires right up and stays running. Not to hot, just perfect! I guess it needed to be broken in alittle more and then tuned finely? But it is running really great!
As far as the clutch goes or the power to the wheels! I think it was just me not running the engine hard enough? Once I started throttling up nice and hard it was a beast! Just like they said in the RC Mag! Man this thing is killer! I jumper it at about 30 MPH about 4 feet in the air SMACK into a tree and it hit the ground and flipped! Engine kept running and I was alittle shocked at first! I thought for sure it had broken somehthing? Remeber all my RC experience is with on road gas cars? So if I were to do that with the MTX3 I might have just picked it up and thrown it away! But the LST flipped itself back over and kept on running strong!! WHAT A TRUCK!! I mean it is FAST, REALLY REALLY TOUGH, AND JUST A BEAST! I LOVE IT! I am still gonna replace the clutch but not as a huge priority now? It would just be better with a tunable clutch you know? Anyway thanks guys!

Glad you're having better luck with it. You'll get used to the high-rpm engagement of the clutch, and if you decide you really don't like it just swap for some different shoes and springs. Pretty easy task.

Have fun!

centex clutch on an off road truck is a bad idea.. they have to be kept clean and in an off road enviroment....

as far as clutch options.. im running nova aluminum shoes and mugen 1.0 or 1.1 (i for got wich is in there now) springs. these so far seems to be a decent setup. although i do have to pull the clutch bell off every qt or so and clean the inside of aluminum/oil/dirt gunk. but thats just part of the game..

crsmp5, thats a good idea. but kinda hard to come by an innertube :) i usually put some electrical tape around the aluminum foil to keep it from blowing off.. prolly keeps it from vibrating as well. because i am not geting any glitching..

well let me say this about the truck and the slap ma fro vids....
I just don't think so IMO...
THe LST is a great great truck but it just is not as durable as the savage..
BUt then again I could be wrong...
The LST is a great basher and the Savage is a killer machine when set up right...
The LST does not have the little weaknesses that the Savage does.
Stock steering on the savage sucks big time..
LST as Awesome steering and radio and servo's.
WE'll see about the slap ma fro vids...
How well the LST holds up..

I don't know, badboy2, but I'm looking forward to finding out! The weather up here is frightful (freezing rain today and high temps in the single digits this week) so we won't be getting out and bashing anytime soon, unfortunately. But rest assured, we'll put this thing through its paces as soon as we're able and see if Monsterbrad is right!

I wouldn't buy an LST until Losi puts some more R&D into it! I personally have watched one break front a-arms repeatedly over a three day period. The guy said he hasn't been able to drive it without something breaking in the 4 weeks he's owned it. He is totally disgusted with it. He just bought a Revo a few days ago, and has been running it ever since. Hasn't broken a thing yet. He decided to try out his LST again and it ran great until the second jump. Right front a-arm again! It has potential to be a great truck. Just shouldn't have been released yet, too many bugs!

I am waiting for better shafts thats the only weak point I can see...
MIP has them out already I have not seen them in person yet though..

losifreak2004

The MIP ones have been broken..they're just really long because of the design of the truck. That's a lot of weight and leverage trying to break those axles! The newest versions from Losi have been stress tested with good results.

Aluminum arms will bend..

The guys at Losi know better than to leave "well enough" alone..they're all the kind of people who could never sit still in class and constantly had to be doing something. They won't stop working on a project until it's right!

They've got some of the best in the game testing their products also..and when Losi's R&D team says "it's good"...it's good.

I also hope that none of you feel that your comments are unheard; this stuff all gets reported straight back to the office, because Losi cares about what their customers think! (if they didn't, I'd be out of a job...haha)

Adam "the" Drake was telling me about the time they were behind the biulding jumping the LST over a forklift with a makeshift ramp they had biult. The truck was getting up about 12 feet in the air or so, testing durability. After several dozen jumps they finally landed in a way that broke a part, then opened another box to run a different truck and see if they broke the same parts. Anything that broke went back to engineering for improvement, but they did have few problems considering the "Abuse" the truck went thru.

Most people running a truck like this expect to be able to hit parked cars at 40 mph with a 13 lb truck and say it shouldn't break. Imo, if you run it hard and treat it bad, expect to fix stuff fairly often. If you race it, or bash with common sense, you'll likely only be down every so often with a broken part.........After all a giant monster truck, with huge tires that act as levers, running the most powerful RTR engine in it's size range?

I've never heard of a fullscale racer crashing into a wall then complaining to his crew chief that the car broke on impact?....LOL, Jim

winning edge designs
12-22-2004, 09:36 PM
Sgt, the point I was making in my post is the development was done primarily, to get the truck to "acceptable" standards. This has been achieved, but since as always TeamLosi is always trying to improve thier products, there will still be improvements along the way, mostly running changes thru each production run, etc.

This truck, and EVERY other one on the market will Never be "indestructible", but they will try and make it so only really dumb stuff breaks it.

I broke my Revo every time out the first 4 tanks of fuel after break-in, but a few racers edge parts and some updated yokes and everything was rosey...........Lets race!, Jim

Sgt Blamo

Jim,
I understand your point about abuse, but a monster nitro truck, like the LST is or should be designed to be jumped and run hard, hence the name. While many a person will put their truck thru severe abuse, which cannot necessarily be anticipated, the same should be able to withstand what would be construed as common to the field enviroment. An example would be a dirt bike or fourwheeler, which are designed for off-road use.
Although what I observed could have been isolated, I'm not inclined to believe so. The individual driving the LST had not abused it in any way. his usage was common to the field for which it was designed for. Actually, the conditions were less than it's intended scope of use, as it wasn't on a race track. Just because it's big, is no excuse for breaking easily. The bigger you build it, the better you should design it and the stronger it should be. No one I know "Runs into cars at 40 mph", they jump it on 6-8 ft dirt piles on a medium-soft dirt base.
What supprised me was to see the Revo's run near flawlessly for over 45 minutes in the same conditions and the LST only last about 10 minutes or less.Traxxas has not been a company that I would have had hi-regard for, that is until now. They have stepped up to the plate and delivered! (I own a decrative stone company, which is highly competitive. If I don't strive to be the best, then someone else will and I'll be replaced, same applies in the R/C business) A large part of my suprise was due to my having a lot of past experiance with Losi's buggies and trucks. I NEVER saw Losi produce anything but top quality! So please don't take this as an attack on Losi. I just want to see a company that has been known for excellence, to stay the course.

I have not called losi but i do want the up dated screw set and the better shafts. I hope that they will make this good for me.

Sgt Blamo
12-23-2004, 01:05 PM
Losifreak,
That's what I wanted to hear, that they would stand by thier product.
Next question: I'm interested in buying an LST once they have made the upgrades. What will be the determining factor in knowing that I'm purchasing an upgraded LST?

Monsterbrab,
Do you mean torque? The BB definately has more torque, but I wouldn't say the Revo therefore has no power. I watched the Revo run side by side with the LST and they were almost even, with the Revo pulling away at the top. So what do you mean by power?
The revo was jumping just as high and just as fast as the LST, but the Revo had several bad landings as opposed to the LST's two perfect landings before it broke.
Please don't misunderstand my point, I'm not saying, nor have I ever said that the LST is junk. It simply needs a few key improvements, then it will be great.
It almost seems that there are some people trying to make excuses for the LST, and there isn't one! They made a mistake in their R&D by not being thurough enough. Mistakes are part of life, it's what you do about your mistake that sets you apart from the rest.

My second truck # 8340 came with updated clutch springs, axles , cvd's so buy one above that number and you should be set

hope this helps (shut you up ;) )

Well i have to say that you are correct in some ways.
The newer LST's are better but they still have a few flaws.
I have not broken any arms on mine and they are good.
Just the drive shaft issue and they are workin on that and have solved it because the new units seem to have better stuff on them.
Not to mention the lock nuts all over the place like mine does not have.
I am going to call them and see whether they will make this good cause I have one of the first ones.
I have thought about selling mine and starting all over again with a brand new one!
But I know what I have here and I don't want to take a beating on selling mine and buying a new one again.
As for the REVO comparison
who the **** cares the revo is just tooooo SLOW!

Sgt, no problem, I understand where your coming from, just the same, my experience was different. I owned a Revo and it let me down the first 4 tanks I ran it I broke. Steve Slayden from Traxxas helped me get informed of updated parts and I repaired the truck and ended up 4th at RC Pro finals with it......It did lack power though, I could barely make jumps with it running 265 degrees, while the LST's at the race had been pulling wheelies and clearing them with ease........Just a different perspective and different results.

I haven't owned an LST yet, only a Revo, since the LST has been out of stock locally, rumor is the improvements held up the second production run a little, but they have been shipped now.....I'll have one soon though, ;), Jim

heving run nitro for years, the first thing i did before i broke my lst in were to completely degrease the clutch, clutchbell bearings, and slipper. the slipper was really oily. all those new metal parts usually have some traces of a machine oil or other kinds of oils on them when new. this really made the truck run good, and i haven't had any issues with the clutch. plus i clean the clutch after every four or five tanks. i do this with all my nitros. really makes them last longer.

I am reading alot about some people being fed up with the LST and breaking parts all the time? I dont know what you guys are doing to these trucks but I have one of the first ones that came out and it is a tank? I have had NO problems except for alittle clutch hesitation? Though that is fixxed with about 3 dollars for new springs or about 20 for new shoes and springs? Or you could do what i am going to do and get the Fiornio or Werks adjustable clutches! I would rather have one that can be adjusted anyway? I am used to on road centex types and being able to adjust them? I wonder why they dont use a centex type clutch in trucks? I have never seen that type of clutch in any trucks? Anyway its a good truck and I love it and reccomend it highly! OUT OF ALL the trucks though i would like to have the Genesis! I widh it had no problems because it is just sooooo cool looking and HUGE! I mean it looks like it wuld be so much fun!! But I have heard more bad then good things about it and the fact that there are like no bodies or hopups for it sucks? On any truck i would get I would first upgrade it with adjustable alluminum shocks, shock towers, chassis plate, skid plates, and maybe arms? I think the alluminum T Maxx by Hardcore or Integy is just about the BADDEST looking truck out there!!! Only riveled by the Savage and as soon sa the Integy guys get the shipment of LST alluminum upgrades, it will give both of those trucks a run for there money!
As far as the CVD's and stuff breaking MIP or another company like 3 racing should come out with some upgraded tough ones? Thats just my opinion? Anyway have fun guys!

I would really appreciate someone ansering that once and for all for me! I have gotten no real definite answer on that? SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! Also like I said I would like to get a new set of wheels and tires. I like the folowing:

Hot Bodies 7" UFO with whatever tires?
Hot Bodies 7.7"(Twinzilla) Rims with those Fireball tires!! REALLY HOT!!!
Proline Velocity with Masher or Big Loes

If any of you have any other suggestions let me know? Or if ANYONE HAS ANY OF THESE WHEELS AND TIRES ON THERE TRUCKS PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW THEY ARE!!!! I wanted to know of the 7.7" Twinzilla rims and tires are too big for the LST to power? I mean are they to big and does the size of the tires affect the performance of the LST with the Mach .26 in it? PLEASE if anyone knows the answer to this i would appreciate it! I really would like to have them but dont want to spend almost 80 dollars if they do not peform? I eman do they affect the jumping, pendgulum affect thing? Also do they look like stupid big on the truck? If they look too big and stupid then i would rather not get them? Anyway I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE THE HELP HERE!

He's talking about "The Washer" It sits on the con rod pin between the conrod and one way bearing and is there to act as a buffer against the rotostart.I took mine out almost 4 gallons ago and the only wear I can see attributed to the washer being gone is a small area of the one way is now showing signs of wear. Not so much you can feel it but the coloration has been scraped away some.My one way just took a dump so had to replace it anyway. The washer will wear out sooner rather than later and fall into the crankcase then try to get into the combustion chamber and seize your motor. Some have gone a few gallons with the washer in but nearly everyone I know has eventually removed it either because it failed or looked like it was about to go. I can't attach pictures here but if you go to rcuniverse and their LST forum there's a sticky at the top of the page describing it with pictures.Pull start mach .26 engines do not have this washer and rumor is that future builds of the rotostart versions will have changes made that will end the requirement for the washer at all.
If your motor seizes because of the washer they will warranty it.I don't believe I know of anyone who's been denied

Hope this helps

T-Maxxster - Give them a call back, or write a letter. They'll fix what is wrong to make it right again.

Blamo - It's all how you look at it. Some people define customer service by how much free product a company gives out, and I don't think that's fair.

Oh well
I will keep the truck and try Bill again later.
Or I will just mention something to Bill at SPEED ZONE RACEWAY in TN.
He might be able to get this problem cured he is all about CS and if they don't treat there customers well they will stop selling there product or make a few calls to them!!!

Thanks for the update, we took it out today now and changing out the electrical system to put the new 5 pack battery in. You were extremely helpful and now my wife and son will be happy. Really, I am going to be the one happy once I take this guy out.

Can you change this one for a pull start so that you will not have so much play or does it really make any difference? Have you did anymore modifications to your truck?

Again thanks for all your help, we/I were scrambling to come up with a solution from being so anxious getting this done and out on the road. Now we are putting a track indoor and outdoor for our new trucks... YEA.!!!!

Hey guys. I want to purchase some Hot Bodies Mayhem tires on UFO rims and dont know if they will fit the LST? I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT SIZE HEXES AREON THE LST STOCK? Are they 14mm or what? PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! I cant find it on the website or anywhere for that matter? Also i was wondering if any of you have the Hot Bodies Chopper wheels with Fireball tires on your LST? They are the 7.7" tires that go on the Savage Twinzilla? Are they too big for the LST or what? Do they affect performance and do they look just stupid big and out of proportion? Let me know but most of all i want to know WHAT SIZE THE HEXES ARE ON THE LST!!!!!! Thanks

hey colt m4, actually that is not a LST body. it is a MGT body but since they are both roughly the same size i thought i would try it and it worked perfect. if you look at the new proline bodies, they are sized for the LST or the MGT. hope that helps. btw, i did manage to fix the spur gear problem. it was a simple meshing issue. All I can say is go back through and read this entire forum.
There are issues with this truck that are being worked on now but there are things that will be weak no matter what you do to the truck.
Then again every truck with major power will have problems depending on how hard you bash it.
I love the truck and the have never seen a stock monster with this much power and wheelies and all that.
Just remember that having all the power does not equal the most fun all the time.

I would say change the clutch depending on what version of the truck you have .
If its second version then run it the way it is.
If its first version like mine you will probably smoke the clutch.
also buy the inner gear protector so that junks of debree won't get in there and mess with the gears
that happened to mine the gears are all pointed and sharp on my truck.
Replace the rear hub carriers with aluminum ones they break also.
and titanium rods and all that will help too.
Buth then again you can leave the truck alone and replace things as they break, thats what I have been doing.

Hey Fellas! First off I must say our love of the LST is definitley LEGIT!! Man are these things bad as hell or what! My neighbor just got a MGT and I SMOKED it in almost every category! Speed, Jumping, Turning, whatever! Now the MGT is a bad truck, meaning nice also, but the LST just is better? It also is the baddest looking beast out there! I mean just look at the setup of the chassis, and those SHOCKS!! Its setup like a touring car, though center of gravity is alittle high with the stock tires?
Anyway i have a HUGE FAVOR TO ASK! I live in NEW JERSEY and it is around 35-50 degrees here. Now when i got my LST i set it to the stock carb settings wich are:

CARB SETTING
HI 3 1/2 Out Counter Clockwise
Lo 2 Out Counter Clockwise

Now around this setting ine is running VERY SLUGGISH! The only way it will rip butt is if it is set at around Hi 2 1/8 Out, and Low 1 1/4-1/2 OUT? I was hopping some of you guys could POST YOUR CARB SETTINGS HERE!!!! That way i can tell if mine is at the right setting compared to others!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO ME THIS FAVOR AND POST YOUR MACH .26 CARB SETTINGS HI, LO, and Idle IF YOU WANT. Also include your state and outside weather temps and stuff. List them like this or mine were listed.

High 3 Out(or counter clockwise)
Lo 2 Out(or clockwise)

well lets see here
I cranked to piss outa my low end to get the snap that I like.
The high end I think I was about 2 1/2 out from stop or closed.
when its colder out you want a little leaner but not that much on the high end needle.
Just watch temps and make sure you are in the ball park 200 area not going over 250.
the lsn setting is best set at factory settings to start with then go from there.
I can not remember what they are but the book says I think.
You will know if the low end is to lean cause it will sound awefull and it won't rev either.
Good luck

01-08-2005, 08:02 PM
ENJOiE, the carb setting you have are probably good. For evey engine, I like to run the engine as rich as I can stand up on the top end(adjusted for top speed, length of straights, etc) and adjust the low end for good idle, which is should idle fine for 5-10 seconds, then slow down a little, idle there for another 10-15 seconds, then slow again.........Usually if it just sits and idles forever the bottom is too lean from my experience and you'll have to keep the top rich to keep the temp in line......I live in Florida, so no need posting our needles here, but 2 1/2 top and 1 and 1/2 bottom is good for most.............Jim

Monsterbrad
01-09-2005, 05:24 PM
Nicelt put there Jim
These motors are not designed to sit there and idle for 20 minutes like a four stroke.
If you are running the heck out of it yeah run it rich but then again depends on the temp out side and how big the track is.
I like to use temp as a guide line but remember when you are not seeing smoke comming from the pipe anymore you are leaning out and let off the throttle....

You can't use smoke as a gauge anymore; many fuels today produce very little visible smoke, even when the engine is tuned correctly.

LOL!

True, Smoke is only a gauge to use after you have established a base carb setting that allows for good performance and proper temerature ranges. Then if the engine leaves a little smoke trail(most fuels will) it will let you know if something has changed, for instance when it begins smoking more or less then normal/usual.......But I would never recommend tuning the engine to leave a trail of smoke down the straights...although Ron Paris once told me to do that, but that was years ago, haha....Jim

Monsterbrad
01-10-2005, 08:11 PM
Hey Jim
this has been under so much argument......
How much smoke do you see.
I remember back in the old days the richer you ran the engine the longer it would last..
Now it's what temp are you running and how much smoke are you emitting out of the exhaust.
I am going to say that in my mind smoke means there is oil in the engine and it being liquid cooled to a point with that oil which is good which will keep the temps good and the engine healthy, not smoke and the engine is lean no oil and damage may occure.
But then again when it came to break in for years everybody ran the engine on a stand for a tank at idle and now there is the heat cycle method.
So after all that said what is the right way with any of this or will we just all have different ways of doing this forever.
I am sure that we will.
All I can say after this past summer I broke in my revo using the heat cycle method
run it up to 200 degress 8 to 10 times change the plug and start tuning for power...
I did this and the engine ran super strong for over 2-1/2 gallons sold the truck to a guy and its still going strong.
I did however back to the LST here run 30% after being warned that it was not a good idea over 2 quarts then lost the plug coil into the engine and lost the engine but oh well

Brad, In the "Old days" they used top have piston rings and/or cast iron sleeves. This meant long break-ins, even up to hours long and a gallon of fuel or more!

Our engines aren't machined as haphazardly and are made of much more curent materials, so break in now is really only seating of the mating parts fully. We're also flushing break in particles from the engine during the first few tanks, so a richer mix helps with that, since the oil carries out the smallest of metal particles.

The problem comes when we break them in "too cold", or "too hot". Too cold and your leaving the engine far too tight during the seating in process and will likely end up with a short lived compression in your engine, since after the "too rich" break in you'll tune it for more heat and have more clearance. Too hot and you'll cause the oil to be burned off in the cylinder combustion area(top of the cylinder) too quickly and starve the top of the sleeve for oil, causing poor compression early, even worse then cold break in, which usually shows up a little later.........This is why most engine manufacturers tell you to break in cold, since you'll usually error towards hot and end up about right, if you don't you'll still get a couple gallons from your engine most likely then you'll need a new piston and sleeve.

Personally, I always break in my engine at running temperature, after one rich tank, and 3 or 4 heat cycles, since this heats the parts for thier intended running clearance and settles them in. My procedure also purges break in particles before heat cycling and doesn't run it cold for too long causing wear from too tight cold clearances............I like 190+ degrees for any big head engine and 200+ for small head engines for about 5 or 6 tanks(varys from engine to engine) after heat cycling and before racing, using low, mid speed and only very short high speed runs of a second or two. After doing this for years now i've gotten to were I notice the engine freeing up a little, then it's time to race.............Hope this helps, Jim

Oops, oil burning, or smoke emission........The synthetics don't seem to show up as much, smoke wise, but they also don't seem to lubricate as well according to some racers I've talked to. The better quality castor oils always show smoke and seem best for lubrication and engine life. The problem is the castor gums up the engine a little, while synthetics don't leave as much residue/gum/varnish behind. alot of fuel makers are now using a combination of Castor and Synthetics, like my fuel of choice, Maxy's Pro Racing Fuel(maxyfuel).

Unfortunatly, the only real way to determine fuel quality, engine tuning/engine performance, etc are by reading the glow plug, which is very involved to explain........I can sum it up by saying a shiny black, or sooty black plug usually means too rich, while a distorted coil is too lean/detonation....you want the plug in between, prefferably grey....Then if it smokes, or doesn't, it's not a concern.........Jim

Monsterbrad
01-10-2005, 09:32 PM
Well I have used Blue thunder Race Formula since it came out bak when and I like the fuel a ton.
Also my plugs are always black with a nice shiny coil most of the time.
But then again i have run my engine's a little rich since I first started my original .15 Rustler way back when it first came out.
Jim where can I reach you for an e-mail????
I have a few questions???
I broke the LST in very quickly in the late spring and it ran all summer till I decided to run that stupid 30% I had for the revo.
I heat cycled it 5 times up to 200 one rich tank then started tuning for power and the engine never gave me any problems other than it 4 stroked like crazy..

Hey Fellas. Well if its not one thing its another with these trucks right! Dont care though because the LST is the baddest of them all! Anyway i had a weird thing happen today? I had a fun time at the beach running about 3 tanks of fuel on the sand with only a small 1 foot high jump that i was hitting. Anyway when i got done I was driving the truck home and I hit a guardrail at almost idle speed. When i pulled it away from the rail I ran it down the road and then all of a sudden it was lopsided? I thought what the hell? So i take of the body and the shock shaft was broken in half at the bottom where it screws into the ball cup!!!!
I was wondering if any of you have had probs with the shock shafts breaking or being weak? Also would LOSI replace it as this sounds like a real problem to me! I hope to GOD it is not a common problem and that either it was a fluke accident or that I had a faulty or crap shaft? Would LOSI replace it if that was the case? Also have any of you had that problem? PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Also since this happened i was thinking about replacing the shafts with new ones but wanted to get something strong! Either the whole INTEGY LST Piggy Shocks, or the LOSI Titanium Nitrade Golden Shafts? Does anyone know anything about the Ti.Ni. LOSI shafts? Are they stronger then the stock shafts? And if so then are they much stronger and worth replacing the whole setup with? They are only couple of dollars more the the stock ones? If they are not stronger what are they good for? PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Finally I had another question or well would like to see what you would reccomend. Before all this happened with the shocks I was gonna replace them with threaded ones anyway because, and I KNOW YOU AGREE, the STOCK SHOCK PLASTICS AND HEIGHT ADUSTMENT SETUP ON THE LST SHOCKS SUCK!!!!!!!! But seeing as INTEGY has had there MSR6 shocks advertised for like forever now and have not even come out with a date yet it seems like I will have to go another way? I even emailed Integy and they said it would be aroound 3 weeks. That was almost 2 months ago!!! But I was wondering what you would do or what seems better to you all!

WICH WOULD YOU DO????

Integy MSR6 PiggyBack Adjustable Shocks (not out yet but if they were)
or
Losi Adjustable Shock Bodies, with the Losi Titanium Nitrade shafts, and Hard Anodized Allum. Pivot Balls, and LOSI Springs or Hot Racing Springs?

Let me know what you think is a more durable or better setup? They both are about the same as in price. Though the INtegy shocks have those badas# resevoirs!!! But if they have th same type shafts as the stock LST's i would rather not get them? I think that the LST with its huge shoks needs some stronger or way thicker shafts? Just my opinion but let me know what you think or what you would get out of these 2 items? Or what else there is that i might not know about yet? PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE and again if any of you have had the same prob with the shafts let me know!

Personally, I'd keep the Losi shocks and get the Ti shafts and add wire to limit travel of the arms.

I'm not a big fan of those resevoir shocks. I'm not sure they work the same as full scale shocks of that type.

I have the Losi threaded shock bodies. They are way better than the stock ones and i also have the ti-ni shock shafts and i would definitly recommend them.

im not too sure if the ti-ni shock shafts are ment to be allot stronger. my understanding is, there smoother, for bether shock action?! the ti-ni finish is supose to be super strong/smooth for a very long life between service...

as far as the stock shock shafts being weak. im not too sure about that...
i was racing a BFT and we were side-by-side, i side-swiped a curb at FULL/MAX speed and didn't break any shafts.. i took out every thing else on the right side of the truck. but the shocks and shafts were intact and in perfect condition (aside from a scrape on one of the shock bodies)...

I broke a shock shaft way back.....
Yes they are weak but they do support all that weight and torque...
I have not heard anything about the new titanium ones yet..
I have seen the new gears though they look awesome seeing's how my stockers are all sharp and worn a ton from rocks and that.....

7, whats up with your back tires? how come there different :)

i always liked the h2 body and you did a nice job painting it.. but is it just me, or does that body look really small on the lst?

you may want to reconsider that front roll bar mounting location. if you ever nose-dive your truck off a jump, you may tweak that suport..

ALJR-

I'm running different back tires simply because they hook up better in the snowy streets and yards around here. The tread on the front is good for turning, but the rears really push this truck along. As for the body, I guess its just the picture or maybe it is. I haven't really looked. I will check it out And post a pic of the new and old together.

ANyone replaced the stock Exhaust on their LST?With what and did it improve your rpm range? What about sound?

Monsterbrad
01-18-2005, 08:04 PM
This truck lacks in RPM becuase of gearing and the engine.
This engine will not turn a bunch of RPM'S so thats that.
I was thinking about trying the GS SUT pipe cause that seems to kick in mid range and this truck has pleanty off the line I was thinking that maybe a pipe like that would make the engine torque a little more controlable for wheelies

doesgo
01-18-2005, 08:15 PM
Wouldn't you need a new header since the SUT pipe is designed for a coupler rather than the stock one-piece design?

Monsterbrad

Good point yes you do.
I have to say though after saying that I would change the pipe.
I am super happy with this truck stock it has pleanty of power!!!

As you can tell from my pics above, I've replaced the pipe on mine with one of the outlaw racing pipes off ebay. Cool looking pipe. Don't know about the rpm range, seeing that the truck was never stock since I bought it. Put the pipe on the same night I got it. Had to hack up the stock header. Chopped it off right before the coupler. Leaves some good length for the rubber coupler. And talking about loud. I don't think it muffles the sound any at all. Sounds like a little 2 stroke mini bike. I like it!!! Neighbors and fiance hate it. Sounds good to me. Check out my pics above with my new h2 body!!!

yeah my neighbor is a pain in the ass also when it comes to my trucks.
WE have had shouting matches over it a few times oh well..
My girl friend could care less she is the coolest when it comes to toys.
I would say that stock the engine and pipe are no louder than a normal 1/8 scale..
Once again i know that I have said this before this truck just has a ton of power stock out of the box.
I am a little pist at it right now cause of the shaft thing but the sheer power makes me keep it...
I like the hot bodies wheels and tires there 7th looks awesome and the size of the tires looks great!!!

Hi new to this forum…..Just wanted to express my thoughts. Bought 2 LST’s for Xmas, one for my son and one for myself. Broke both engines in the same. My sons locked up after 5 tanks of fuel. We have had some minor problems with my sons truck. I replaced his motor with my broke in .26 and installed a wasp .28 in mine……WOW talk about top end. This is not an engine for a beginner. Way to hard to tune. Rich on top and lean on bottom, Eng runs at 250f but when its in tune. Makes the .26 look like a small block. It walks away from my sons truck. Stayed with the stock pipe for now, am looking at pipes haven’t decided yet. From what I have been able to tell so far the LST is a well engineered truck with a few flaws. Have broke some arms and carriers but what do you expect it’s a 13 pound truck traveling at 40 plus, hay lets face it things break at those speeds. For you guys whining out there that your truck broke when you smashed it into a curb or a tree. Forget about the scale and try ramming your full sized truck into a tree and see what happens. Ford Chev. & Dodge would laugh if you called them and said “I don’t understand it just broke when I hit that tree at 40mph.”
For you guys out there that are wondering if this is the truck for you well I have 2 and am enjoying every thing about them. Yes you will have to spend some shop time. I thought that’s what men like to do is tinker with stuff. Team Losi rocks !!!!

I got my LSt today and have some questions, I have about 3 tanks through it and the clutch seems to be slipping, I am only giving it light blips still but it does not seem right. I also had to use AA batteris in the truck and after about an hour the truck acted like it was not getting a signal from the reciever. Also my brakes where sticking, I adjusted it on the controller but I need to move the grub screw to better tune the brakes. The temp during the break in never got over 180 degrees, I idled one whole tank through then did exactley as the instructions say to do. My stick pack will be charged in the morning for the truck, so that problem will be taken care off, any help would be great. I agree with ya JIM!

Could you describe the "slipping clutch"? What does it do differently than during the first couple tanks? I know the springs are pretty stiff on the stock clutch so it really needs some revs to get moving, but it sounds like you're experiencing something different.

hey guys. what's going on? man, i love my LST. i think that the Orion Wasp .26 is just about a perfect balance of power and reliability. i am working on a custom home-built roll cage. i'll post pics when i am finished (hopefully this weekend). anyway, here are a couple of pictures that show the upgrades that i have added so far. enjoy!!!!!

P.S. yes, i did paint that body. and yes, it is a hand made, one-of-a-kind paint mask.

I must say that I've been greatly enjoying my LST.

I have only had some minor problems: clutch spring broke today, tooth on 70t gear broke today (I really hammered my truck today!). It was missing a washer on one of the spider gears in the rear diff. Bill at Losi said he would send me one... I'm still waiting. Oh, and my body is trashed! Tip: don't roll the truck, the back end of the body will crumple and crack.

I've added Badhorsie shock covers, Lunsford titanium hinge pin and turnbuckle kit and blue alu diff cases. All great upgrades!

Break in was a piece of cake. It runs super strong and never overheats. I usually have it in low gear, and it wheelies all over the place! I do a lot of crawling and climbing, and this thing is like a mountain goat!

I don't bash it hard, I don't try to jump it over my house like the SMF guys, and I take care of it. But I DO have fun with it and run it hard. All in all it's been nearly perfect!

doesgo
01-20-2005, 11:29 PM

Hehehe...

I just can't see taking a perfectly good RC vehicle, one that's been cared for and upgraded, and then seeing how far and high I can jump it, laughing when it breaks.

Don't get me wrong, I have all the SMF videos downloaded, but I wince everytime a truck lands lid-down. My truck is something I hope to be driving for a long, long time.

Plus, you guys must have a lot of money invested in spare parts.

WHat .28's are you guys running in this truck?????
I was also thinking about some threaded shocks and new shafts and all that..

doesgo
01-20-2005, 11:52 PM
Well, that's why we usually jump Savages....they just don't break! :) Actually we don't usually laugh when they break, we don't WANT them to break. We rarely do any jumping near pavement because that will certainly increase the chance of damage. But we definitely do try to see how far and high we can jump them. It's actually rather amazing how little they break from big-air jumps. Usually it's freak accidents that do the most damage, like when I was running my RS4 2 at full-speed and it started sliding and hit a steel fence post backwards at about 40mph. Now THAT was ugly! But the coop jumping and truck jumping....the damage is usually quite minor.

As for the costs....what have you seen break in our videos? Schumacher Menace notwithstanding, that's quite an anomoly. We break a Savage shock or tie rod end here and there, maybe a GT spur gear or tranny case, an a-arm on occasion, a few wheels....cheap stuff, really. And most of the damage we've done in the past two years you've seen, since we don't bash that much without the cameras rolling, and we generally show all the damage because that's what most people want to see. I guess it's the NASCAR phenomenon? So take all the broken parts you've seen in SMF vids, add up the cost, then divide it out over four guys and two years. Ends up being relatively cheap, really.

Also, we gravitate towards bashing/jumping our Savages and RC10GTs. Why? Because they're the toughest trucks out there, at least of the ones we've experienced. We've got some unreleased footage that'll be coming out this spring or summer hopefully where in a couple situations I landed my Savage nose-down from about 30'-40' up. Zero damage. Gotta love that!

Why do people like threaded shocks? Isn't it a pain to keep them even from side to side? I mean, with the clips it's a cinch to know if they're spaced up evenly.

Mattmall you might try cleaning your clutch......there is a oil film on most of the parts....I had to clean both of mine and still clean them when thay start slipping.....As far as the batteries I went with a 2600ma packs I have yet to run one down to whare it starts acting like it needs charged. I discharg them after 10 tanks and re charg. Note during break in run in high gear to prevent over reving the engine for long peroids of time. Dont rush your breakin you will regret it if you do. there are some real good tips in this form that should help you with about any problem you have. I have learned that gear savers are a good idea if you run in areas that have any gravel or sand. You can find them on ebay. Good luck

Hey Fellas. I was wondering what the best engine would be for the LST, or most powerfull and fast you know? Either these below or another you night know of that i did not mention:
Novarossi. .28 3 POrt Pullstart
Rex .28 Pullstart or Top .28 Pullstart
RB .28 Pullstart
Sirio .27 Race\
CEN .46
I was wondering if the Sirio .27 is better or faster then the Novarossi .28's? Its more expensive thats for sure? Also wuold the RB be faster? Let me know what you guys think or if anyone knows? Also the same for the .46 CEN? Would that be hands down the fastest and most powerfullk or what?

I would say go with the Rb or the Rex!!!!
THe sirio I have watched guys fight with them over and over again and have heard that some love them but more hate them.
The .45 is heavy and the weight to power ratio is not there from what I have heard the .28 rex or rb will run with the .46 due to the weight issue....
Cr whats you take on the most powerful engine???
Then again the Kangaroo is a nutty engine with a huge price tag also.
I guess it all depends on what you want to spend too!!!!!

One way that you can tell is check the rear rod ends if you have screws and nuts then you have a newer one.
If you have just screws then you have a first version like mine..

I e-mailed them with a question about a grinding noise in my transmission... no reply. One week later I resent the e-mail... no reply.

So I phoned them (long distance) on my lunch break. Bill was out of the office, but the receptionist promised me that Bill would call me back in five minutes... 50 minutes later and no call. So I called again and Bill was there. He said he didn't get the message to call me.

The positive thing is that he said he would mail me a replacement part, but that was two weeks ago and I haven't received it yet. I'm wondering if it was ever really sent.

As much as I love the LST... I'm losing faith in the company.

I have one of those little washers, too. I tried gently removing it, but it wouldn't budge, so I left it in.

Is it vital that I remove it? If so, why is it in there in the first place?

If it wears out and breaks apart and ruins the engine, will Dynamite replace the engine??

DH: just give him another call and be patient with the poor overworked sod. He's got 15000 LST owners to keep happy and he usually takes care of everyone, you may have just slipped between the cracks for some reason.Stuff happens

edit: remove the washer. It will eat your engine trust me I know. They will warranty it but it'll take you 15 minutes to remove it and you won't have to wait weeks to get your motor back.Mine was removed in pieces by a Losi repair station 4 gallons ago and it's been fine.I checked just last week and there's just the very slightest evidence of wear on the backside of the one way.Just be persistent and work at it with an exacto blde by prying around the edges. The newer the motor the harder it is to get off because it hasn't begun to wear yet.check the LST section of rcuniverse there's a sticky at the top of the page with descriptuions and pictures of the "evil washer"

If you have one, take it out. That's pretty much it! It's on the backside of the rod, towards the back of the engine, NOT between the crank and the rod.

Losi wanted it there to take up some play between the rod and the backing plate thingy, but it turns out that wasn't the best decision.

I let my son go off the line first and then I wax him. In a 150ft. race. I pass him at about 75 feet and then beat him by a good 30 feet. I did some tuning on the wasp yesterday and am looking forward to racing him again. He was watching me run yesterday and said I looks a loot faster. I just started leaning out the top end. Breaking in the engin has been a bitch. I run white lightning 20% and have herd that it is not a good fule for breakins. But now that I am through that part. Let the fun begin.

Thats cool
I would run either Blue thunber 20% race formula or
Odonnell 20%
they are my pics and I have never had problems.
The White Lightning I have heard of people having major problems with that..

OKay, I sent an e-mail to Adam Drake about my LST issues. I'll let you know what happens.

Question: I finally removed the "evil washer", but in the process of doing so, one of those four tiny screws stripped. Not the slightly larger screws that hold the metal backplate on, but rather the tiny screws that fasten the black plastic roto-start plate. The part number for the tiny screws listed in the Dynamite manual is DYN0937. However, when I searched that part number on the Dynamite site, and my LHS site, it only shows the four slightly larger screws, not the tiny ones.

Where do I get those blasted tiny screws from? Would the local Home Depot have them? I doubt my LHS has them.

Help!

I had the same problem with the screws.....I have some racing screws from Kyosho that I had bought years ago that I wound up replaceing them with...I have noticed that on Ebay you can buy a full screw set. Its an aftermarket set of stainless.

Don't automatically jump on the stainless bandwagon, there's good stainless and crappy stainless!

Stainless steel is soft due to its ingredients. If you can, get Ti screws.
