Well in my experience with the bigger hubs they are no good for the axles!
But the LST does have bigger axles from the factory so you may be ok.
The other option's are that you have more wheel choices with the smaller hexes.
my truck is the version 1 so I have the old hubs and they don't bother me any.

Wow...it's been quiet in here for a while.
My friend and I both run LST's and we're both wanting to swap to a single servo. As far as I can see, all you have to worry about is whether or not your servo is strong enough to steer those big heavy tires under this big heavy truck. Other than that, the linkages look like they'll be fine with just one instead of two. Am I correct in that assumption? Anyone here try it?
losifreak2004
04-12-2006, 09:03 PM
Yes, it will be fine. Adam and Travis have run their trucks with only one servo with no problems.

anybody knows what is the reason to swap to a single steering servo??
Metalry: if you do that, please let me know how it goes? IŽd like too change my lst too,

Only thing I would want is the dynamite steering linkage (all though some have bent them)
because there seems to be alot of play, and flex in that wire that conects both sides.
MrCrash
04-19-2006, 01:10 AM
Instead of the dynamite steering link, lok into a Bad *** Creations Link. It's only $10 or so, and it is extremely durable. Also, the guy who builds them is quite active in the LST scene, and stands behind his product at all costs.

Bad glass Creations (filters don't like the name apparantly. Killer hobbies has them, or you can get them directly from him over at LSTCentral.com (his screen name is FireMedic )

I run a BAC link on my LST. It is alot stronger and it now has a tighter turning radius too. It is defiantly better than the dynamite one and the stock one.
Racing t
05-06-2006, 04:56 PM
but where can I get the BAC link??
MrCrash
05-06-2006, 05:21 PM
Killer Hobbies, or from the guy who makes them. He can be found on LSTCentral under the name FireMedic. I'm not sure if he is any cheaper, but Killer Hobbies is the only dealer he recommends buying his link through.

05-07-2006, 02:39 PM
Brad, you said you didn't like 30%.
I ran the mach and the sportwerks engines with 30% no problems....
I didn't add a shim either. the engine has like .020 plus piston clearance.
Monsterbrad
05-07-2006, 06:21 PM
I don't but I have started to run it in the buggy cause it's full race.
Seems to like it better and runs a but cooler.
Rather then having to change things around just run 30 in everything.
I know I said I did not like it a while back but it seems like everybody is going to it with luck.

Help! I just got the update kit for my LST.I'm trying to change the tranny cases and the H/L gear selector, but I'm having trouble w/ the selector. Has anyone installed this kit? Any tips on the selector? The notches on the case don't seem to lining up correctly with the selector knob.
Monsterbrad
05-16-2006, 08:47 PM
make sure you have everything lined up inside the case.
Be careful when it comes to that selector
They are easily broken
mudbuddy3
05-17-2006, 06:16 PM
I believe I have everything lined up. It acts like the new selector rotates more than the old one from one gear to the next. I had to remove some material from the nub that is recessed in the case. It would'nt let it rotate enough to lock in either hi or lo. I hope I did'nt screw up my tranny. I think it's shifting all right, I spin the main shaft and switch gears and it seems to be working
Monsterbrad
05-18-2006, 06:21 PM
Don't worry about shifting
that happens on the spur gears.
Try it thats the only way to tell if it's ok
What up grade kit did you get

hey guys...getting ready to drop in a new engine into my LST..have between 200-250.00 to spend what should I get?..I want the most power-torq this truck can handle..I am a very aggresive basher we all are lol...but us locals run at construction sites every saturday and these trucks take a daily beating...so i dont wanna be spending all day tuning on it I like the mach...I have the LST 1, I removed all the head shims and run a hot plug with byron 25% race fuel...I keep eating glow plugs and have tried every tune in it...even took it to the lhs for s&g...and still eating plugs up about 1 every other tank...so im just gonna put in a new engine..thinking of the ofna .32 or axio .32?.. but other recomendations would be great...
thanks

I jsut got a used LST seems to be in very good shape.
What should i upgrade, and what should i replace to prevent any common problems with this truck? Aside from the usual (check shock, all screws, gears, dif oil,) I don't want to run it full out basher until i know it can handle it. And i don't want to break something simple because i did'nt upgrade or replace something FIRST! so give me the low down, so i can battle ready this truck first! :D thanks guys for the help! :teacher:

I would recommend getting the Losi fiberglass braker pads and aluminum diff cases (most important) right away. After that, R/C Raven dual-rate springs are awesome for bashing, and a roll bar or cage is always nice to have. Also, look into getting aluminum drive hexes quickly, because from what I have seen, the stock plastic ones die quickly if you drive hard. Beyond that, just upgrade any metal parts you bend to the heavy duty ones as you go along, and you should be set.

It'll be worth it once it's done. That's basically what I have done with my LST so far, and it is darn near bulletproof :D
On a side note, don't be tempted to get the New Era Models skid plates for the front or rear. They are evil :)

I have this loud clicking when i hit full throt. I checked both diffs, the tranny, and all 4 hex's to see if something was stripped, or chipped. I replaced the diff oil w/ mugen 1000wt, new aluminum hex's, and i checked all the gears in the tranny and nothing there was chipped or broken... so where the hell is this clicking coming from. I also noticed my front tires really wobble a lot, so i added some plastic shims behind the front wheel hex's, and it helped with the wobble a little, but the front still spins harder than the rear, and the clicking really sounds bad! also i noticed my breaks are only working about 70% and it looks like im getting more stopping power to the rear. Now that really has me screwd up because of the front spinning at speed, i would think if the front was out of wack then it would be the rear spinning with power. It doesnt click when i break, or when i give it gas slowly, only at speed. ANYONE have any idea what this could be?????
MrCrash
11-03-2006, 11:59 PM
Did you check your diffs? Replace the fluid, and check the gear mesh. Mine did something similar, and it turned out the gear mesh was off inside the diff.
azizhousecallz
11-04-2006, 09:22 AM
i pulled both diffs, cleaned them checked for broken teeth, put them back together with mugen 1000wt diff oil, and i have the blue aluminum diff cases. it doesnt sound like its coming from them its really loud, almost sounds like a Honda when the cvc has gone bad. I wonder if maybe one of the cvc joints is loose or out of wack? i will pull them and take a look! thanks for your help.

check you diffs again
you may have a gear that wore the housing for the bevel gears so they are not as tight anymore.
Also 1000 wt oil is not enough.
20,000 in the front minimum and 5 in the rear minimum.
try that combo
also are you running aluminum diff cases???
Check all you drive shafts cross pins they are a problem with this truck also.
Dont' get discouraged this is the best Monster truck out there.
I have had them all and this is the only one that is still on my bench after 3 years.

it was the pin in the CVD, the thing was twisted like a broken arm! They are aluminum diff cases, and i got the 1000wt oil from a set up from Team Losi website one of their pro racers setup had it listed. I will try the 20,000 and see how it works! thanks! :D

I have been running this motor in my LSt now for a month. So far no problems, and the engine seems to be finally breaking in well. I removed the 8.5 air restrictor and the power changed greatly. watch the temp on this motor it can creap up really fast. other than that its a great hop up for the buck!

Can i put the clawtyre on my savage x ss 4,6 and use the 14mm hex or will i strip the hex in the wheel?
how is the quality on the wheels?
mr S
metalry101
01-17-2007, 08:59 PM
The hex in the wheel is pretty stout. I doubt you'll strip it, but you'll need to gear down considerably since the Claws are about an inch and a half taller than your stock tires. I would suggest getting non-Losi wheels for those tires on a Savage. The Losi wheels are plenty stout, but they're about half an inch wider than what is standard, and as such, they will hit the turnbuckles when turning, making it so you can't turn as tightly. Buying the tires seperate from the rims and mounting them on HPI, Traxxas, RPM, or some other rims would be a better idea. If I was going to do that, I'd stick with 17mm wheels since they're stronger.
mr_svensson
01-18-2007, 05:26 AM
and the claws will fit the HPI wheels? with no problems? and not hit the turnbuckle?
i think of use these wheels
http://www.hpieurope.com/graphics/parts/3191/3191_02p.jpg
"WARLOCK WHEEL BLACK (83x56mm/2pcs)
# 3191
Savage X/for 17mm Hex Wheel Hub
These ultra-functional wheels are inspired by the 1:1 Warlock off-road truck wheel manufactured by AXIS.
Our version of the Warlock comes in Savage X standard fitment of 83x56mm/17mm hub size fitment. It has the same offset as the Stock Savage X wheel as well as the same strength that comes with the HPI Racing name. These Warlock wheels will definitely pimp up your monster truck."
and then i have to get hexhubs adaptors. :(
or do u know ay wheels with 17mm hex and use the origingal nuts?
and how much should i gear down?
metalry101
01-18-2007, 01:17 PM
Yes, the Losi Claw tires will go right on those wheels.
You said you have a Savage X already, right? Those are the factory wheels, just in black instead of chrome, meaning they'll go right on w/o any mods, and they'll clear all of the steering components.

Sorry guys haven't been around in awhile. The upgrade kit was part # losb0014. Had diff cases, a-arms, side rails and other stuff to upgrade to LST2 specs. I quit screwing with that tranny and bought one from an LST2, works fine now. Does any body have any ideas for removing and pluging off primer in LST tank? I feel it is just a potential air leak and would like to get rid of it. 40 degrees here today and boy am I getting the ITCH!!!!!!!!!!!
