I'm not too sure if durham is still operating or not. or if anyone still goes there anymore. but this goes out brad at mindblown: Brad i will be at the track friday(april 9th) to do some foam practice. my time window is in the 10 to 11 am. area. i would hope to get some mod arms turned before georgia. brad if you'll be there could you let me know. and what's your fee. if not then do you have the reedy quad mag 19? part #513.

i take it durham can be considered dead.

I am going out there today to drive around my Ta-04, I hope we can race this summer. I need a TON of practice first anyway. Maybe somebody else will be out!

OK there was waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much pollen out there! Still glad I went but I think everyone should wait a few weeks before driving r/c cars in the area!

I really hope we can race this summer. If I lived closer and wasn't taking summer classes at NCSU I would consider running the track (but I couldn't race could I?)

I mean I thought I saw other people's racing lines then I realized, no that is where the pollen was moved by MY tires

Gross!

I spent about 30mins just cleaning the car at the track (and about an hour at home with Mr. Air compressor!)- I had the body on too!

nomac
04-12-2004, 06:36 PM
i'm surprised anyone was even out there! i gave up trying to get up with people for a practice session. if don can't get anyone to run the show for him, i doubt durham will have much action this year. but then again it's still early and the track is much more enjoyable to race on than last year. it's got waaaaay more bite than the wood too.
it's a real shame how the track is much more pleasant (fewer glitching) to drive but there's no drivers.

bmelton
04-12-2004, 08:30 PM
Pete- that's because he says he wants to do it on Saturdays. He will never pull the locals away from the wood. When he ran on Sundays, there wasn't anyother track to race at on Sunday. I would love to run the races on Saturdays, I am familiar with auto score, but do not want to sacrifice the day to run a race for 5 people. The only problem with that is I can't do it every Saturday, but the Saturdays I could make it, I would volunteer. I would be able to make alot more Sundays. Not to mention, it's an hour closer for me just like it is you, lol.

Brandon

nomac
04-12-2004, 10:02 PM
yeah. he needs to go to sundays. he'll pull 'mo folk's. maybe even some of the k'ville guys. that's at least 11 right there! you might have one or two going to the wood but the rest says it's too much of a drive for them. especially on days like yesterday. i'm glad the force was with me 'cause they got rained out! and nobody enjoys a five to six hour drive for nada. so yuo bout set for 'Lanta? got your tires...modars? i've been hearing the mod class is kinda thin down there. and 19 or nitro is THE stuff to run. wa-da-ya think?

cheerwhiner
04-13-2004, 09:01 AM
I could surely do Sunday as well for racing if it helps his decision! Durham is the nearest for me, I cannot drive to Goldsboro or Wilson on a Saturday morning because I have to work on Saturday nights! Plus practicing is nice too on non race days!

cheerwhiner
04-13-2004, 09:02 AM
also what tires would you all recomend i practice with at durham?- rookie with a 27 turn stock electric 4wd belt?

bmelton
04-13-2004, 03:37 PM
Pete- Yeah, got the ponies ready to run, and the chassis to hopefully support it, lol. Mod will be good for this race. I found out last night that Beasley is on the fence about going now. Hopefully all works out great.

Cheer- You can't go wrong with Takeoff cs27, it's the most versatile tire on the market, and if you have never glued your own set of "race" tires, then don't start out with a new set, lol. You'll appreciate the fact that they come glued. Hope this helps ya. They should have some at the track, or wherever the shop is now that was at the track, I haven't been there since July of last year.

I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to racing. I've been driving for 2 years now, but I'm just considering racing. I recently bought a race ready GT, and I was hoping to race this summer. I hope theres people out there to race with :-/

cheerwhiner
04-13-2004, 08:39 PM
OK is the shop going to be open at all soon? Is there a place online where I could get these tires?

bmelton
04-13-2004, 08:59 PM
cheer- if you can't get in touch with the shop, Glenn at Rosewood has some i believe. Check the thread and Glenn may ship them if it's too far of a drive.

email Brad Davis @ kartrun@aol.com
He can get in touch with Don if the shop has any

cheerwhiner
04-13-2004, 09:06 PM
eh it will be about a month until i can do anything with the car anyway, school is getting to be crunch time. i will probably go out to rosewood one day anyway and check it out.

04-13-2004, 09:27 PM
now 22, 27, or 32? I figure hard for this track, not sure!

bmelton
04-13-2004, 11:36 PM
32's will last you alot longer and work best as temps get up around 80-85+ mark.

cheerwhiner
04-14-2004, 09:27 AM
that is what i figure as well. if i don't travel to goldsboro in the next month i will just order. again i cannot do anything until school gets out- may 6th is my last exam (and the day after I turn 21!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so i can get back with it on that friday, 7th...... before then I am going to order parts for my car, it is a tamiya ta-04s so there are many worthwile upgrades for it, including ball diffs instead of gear diffs, swaybars, and of course tires!

nomac
04-14-2004, 06:41 PM
man! i wish someone could get a hold of brad! i got 7 arms that need to turned. i really don't like doing that stuff at the track. i like 'en fresh from the case. let alone the headache of goin through the pits trying to find somebody to do it for ya. ugh! :p

Yea, I have a few arms I'd liked to get turned too, and some motor work done.

04-14-2004, 07:59 PM
When does race season "officially" start up at durham? I noticed on the site that don is looking for people to run the races, so I'm assuming that it may not start at all, which is a shame. Are there any other Nitro guys here?

cheerwhiner
04-15-2004, 12:26 PM
hey do you recommend 26 or 24mm? my car can use either........... i would guess 26mm for Durham 'cause it has sweeping turns, not "tight" turns and that loooooooong straight

kevina250
04-15-2004, 09:33 PM
If any of you guys are interested, Nitro touring is running the oval at Clover, SC. RC Driver will be covering the race on Gascar. Just something to do before Durham starts up.

Pete, I'm still here buddy! Sorry i didn't respond any sooner but I've been working my tail off lately and I've been in Nawlins, that's New Orleans for you locals :-) for about a week so I've not really been on the puter much in a long time. anyways, I did send an email to Don saying Kelly and myself are all up to running the races and I even talked to him today on the phone. I'm sure we'll get something worked out soon so you guys can race. Anyways, I'm free to do whatever motor work you need, no problem. Don't know if its too late but thought I would let you know. Well, lets see, whats new with me. I'm getting married December 19th, I'm working on a modified motor of my own design, I'm working my tail off like I mentioned before, I set a WORLD speed record in R/C boat racing with one of my stock motors that was purchased a while back after the old record stood for many years and the article is in the new issue of r/c boat modeler and I'm sure there is other things I'm forgetting but its late and the ol' brain is not working quite right. Anyways, hope you all are doing well and I hope to see each of you really soon, I REALLY need my racing fix. :D Talk to you soon. Brad

the off-road is not "officially" open but it's there. can'y say that it's even done!
but anyone who wants to practice can do so. that's totally up to you. so have fun and spread tha' word! we need a guy that can run tha 'puter for don so we can race. so until that happens........ but i doubt i'll be going down anymore for practice. got burt out from being there by my self.

04-19-2004, 04:50 PM
Pete, sorry man, no 4 mag stuff, its not my thing :p Yeah, I'm pretty excited about getting hitched. Can't wait! I'm also pumped about the motor I'm working on, she's in her prototype stages as we speak. I should have my first working prototypes in about 4 weeks. Its pretty oldschool but its based on what I know works or should I say has worked with great success in the past. No fancy bells or whistles, just pure HP. We'll see! Anyways, sorry I couldn't help with the 4 mag cans, Talk to you later. brad

The track pix from the website look pretty flat. I'm looking for a place to practice on weekdays. Durham is a bit closer than ILP in Goldsboro. Is there a fee?

cheerwhiner
04-20-2004, 02:53 PM
during the week if you go, there is no fee. there is probably not going to be anyone else there- I'll show up during the week after May 6th when I get out of school. Now you can practice on either track, but there is no timing going on. You will have electricty in the pits, thats about it. The park it is attached to has a good concession stand and bathrooms. If you want you can ride go karts or if you skateboard, they have a nice skateboard park as well!

cheerwhiner
04-21-2004, 08:34 AM
Heads up I will have a basher delphi IRL car with a mod motor to take out too- it will be for parking lot bashing but you know i will want to see how it does on a track. LOL> my T3 and Ta04 will be set up for the actual race tracks eventually. I may "lease" the T3 if anybody wants to use it while I'm out there too.

What's happenin' with the R/C Speedway? I e-mailed Don and he's apparently busy with something else 'cause he's looking for some folks to host races. I STILL like the track, even though it's shorter after he built the little dirt thing! I agree with a lot of other folks though...it was a mistake moving the races to Saturday. Maybe we should "petition" Don to move the races back to Sunday (I like that better anyway!). If we can get him to do that, maybe we can keep Durham alive. I've got some "marketing" ideas to try to bring the track back to life....I'd like to hear yours...

nomac
05-22-2004, 03:36 PM
hey brad. i meant no offence. but i think most of MY guys have given up on durham. we would try to rally up to race but no go. i've even agreed to meet with fellas from diferent parts of the state only to end up being there for hours on end alone! and think at one time you had the boat thing and the 'nawlins thinkg going on. they were saying practice and playing was not good enough (and i agree) they want to race. so they all put the tourers up an broke out the off-roaders. there was a time where a few of us needed some motor service too but...

so if you're gonna acually race some time soon, i think i can still get 3 to 6 racers to come out.but for the time being.....durham is a thing of the past. and "the wood" is too big of a hump for them to commit to every week. but then again, racers can be a fickle crowd to deal with. but you know this already. so if you can get going again then you have some commited racers, but you'll have to stay consistant. and oh, i think the majority vote was talking about running on sundays. which is perfect for me. (no kids) what i'm saying is.... i for one will be there but it's got to a "there" for me to go to. i'm only waiting on don, so it's y'all's move. TEAM YO MAMA OUWT!!!! pete.

kartrun
05-22-2004, 08:59 PM
Pete, no offense taken my friend. Look, I understand everything you are saying, heck, I even feel the same way. The biggest misconseption about the track is that I in some way control what goes on out there. I just run the shop, that's all its ever been. I have NO control over when the track is open or when it races. Thats all Don. I put in my two cents about running the races and even let it be known that I was willing to do EVERYTHING but it never amounted to a hill of beans. I'm like you, if nobody shows up time and time and time again why in the world would I waiste my time going out there only to sit by myself waiting for guys to show up so I can sell them parts or tune their motors?? Heck, half the time it seemed nobody even gave a crap about Mindblown even after I won just about everything there was to win. Now I know what you might say and I'm here to say right now that even with Mindblown I was at the mercy of being backed by Don who in all fairness made me who I was without a doubt and I owe him everything but at the same time when the money ran out around the time of the NATS it killed me. But, I remembered what Troy Schroder of Fantom told me one time in an email he wrote to me. It reads: When your dreams turn to dust, vaccum! Thats exactly what I have done and i'm here to tell you Mindblown will be back and even a greater threat than it was before but this time its for keeps and things will be done like they should be done or should have been done in the first place. For everybody that supported Don, myself or the track, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love all you guys (you know what i mean) and I can't think of better times or better friends than the ones I made at the track. Maybe on day Durham will be what it used to be but I'm in the dark just like you guys and it makes me sad to see my, YOUR great track go down hill like it has. Maybe I'll see you guys soon! Brad

I live up in oxford. I tried to come out to the track to watch races one time but there was only 2 or 3 people there. Not like it was in Chapel Hill. I have a tmaxx and a xxxnt. I am interested in racing nitro touring. Goldsboro is a little far away.

Why don't we all just try to get together and run and talk??

I am in. My cousin Jake is in too. I know he wants to race.

He has a T-Maxx, as do i. I also have a xxxnt. I wish I had an onroad car. I am working on it.

Why don't we try to get a running tally of all of those who want to race and petition for Sunday?? Maybe Don will go for it then. Is the problem that the concessions and gokarts don't run on sunday?? I thought they did??

So my word is 2 people for offroad. 1/10 scale gas truck and monster truck.

Also, we both have a set of street tires, and onroad TMaxx is fun. I will try to race the touring cars with it!!! :)

So I put up 2 people.

Consider this my start of my pertition. Maybe we can also try to get hobby masters to advertise (not put money torwards it, just advertise) They were the ones to tell me about it anyway.

thanks

If you guys are running in Durham let me know. I've been out a few times w/my daughters and praticed on the off-road which is what I'd be interested in. It'd be nice to have something close, I'm in Wake Forest and currently I am driving to Vanceboro and Goldsboro. Vanceboro is every Sunday while G'boro is every other Sat. with 6/5 being the next off one. Both my Daughters have Terra-Crushers, I have XXX-NT; Monster GT; Mammoth; MBX4-RR; RC10-GT. My cousin who often Races with me has a Mammoth; Rustler;Schumacher Menace. Would love to find a place less than 2 hours drive away. The Durham offroad does seem a little small for Monster Trucks but I'd be glad to try it. Or even pratice with anyone in the area. My time is very flexible (self-employed).

I can be free pretty much anytime with a little advance notice, if interested drop me an e-mail, we'll exchange numbers and so forth. As far as running the computer for Don would that just be a one day thing? would it be all day? my wife is a homemaker and often goes to races with me. She is fairly proficent with PC's and might be willing to help out on Race Days and considering I lve right down Hwy. 98 it would be an easy trek. Would that help?

Voodooboy52
06-03-2004, 12:44 PM
I'm not sure about the computer. I dont have a transponder, seeing as I've never raced. If its just you and I, I dont think we'll need it, although it would be nice. If I can get some other guys to come, it would be cool to have the computer running. We could probably have a good sized MT class, and about 4 STs. I have a friend with a FTGT that I can bring once in awhile, I dunno if he's too into racing regularly. I'll talk to some people online and see what I can do.

nomac
06-03-2004, 08:58 PM
if there's going to be someone running the computer. yes. it will take up a little chunk of your time. depending on what time to start racing. (1 ,2 ,or 3) sign-up is usually cut off one hour prior to racing. That gives the 'puter person time to put names in. but a lot of times people wait till the last second to sing up, and that takes more time. but with the crowds we used to have there last year....we'd start around 3 and end up leaving around 5:30 at the latest. and that's with nitro.

If you all let me know what you're planning a couple weeks in advance, I'll try to be available early for track prep and stay late for cleanup, etc. It sure would be nice to revive this track somehow! P.S. I've tried find Brad out here the last couple days, but unable to contact him to get the scoop...no luck! How about heading to vass this weekend or next for off road? Am pretty disgruntled also with Durham, no idea why the destroyed a roar class on road track to dump some dirt and then never touch or even make a go at the off road track. I was there one sat right after the dirt came in, there were maybe 10 of us practicing which should have been some wake up call that people will come, after that I heard nothing about it ever again...

Pete, Long time my friend. Hope you are well. Doing pretty good here. Why do you say "folks" Pete in your message?? I've said it time and time again, I am a "service" for the speedway, I have NOTHING to do with how and when things go down there! It's completely out of my control and thats the bottom line. I did my part to offer Kelly and myself to run the races but I guess he's too busy to really think about. I've not talked with Don in over a month or so (maybe longer, can't remember). Look, I'll make you guys a deal, if you want to come out and run on sundays, I can't promise the computer will be there but I will open whats left of the hobby shop and clean and sweep the track to make it a worthy race surface again and we can go out there and try to make it a day of fun and fellowship so to speak and do a little door to door racing. Lets say........after lunch, around 1??? Sound good? We can do it every other week like we did in Chapel Hill starting week after next. Now i know what you are thinking, "you just said you have nothing to do with how and when things go down out there!" I make it simple, The track is a waiste right now and I will do my best to save it always. Besides, Don will be glad to see it not just sitting there so I'm pretty sure he will not mind at all. from what i understand..... the format is simply a meet and greet deal. the track & hobby shop will be open by mr Mindblown himself. we want to get racers back together so we can jump this thing off. at the present time, there is no definate lock-down on the racing. (ya know.....the computer, transponders, entry 'an all that)

I'm sure, though, if the racers WHO WANT TO RACE there show a huge response to this....then i think durham will be back on it's feet in notime. but don't be shy! come on out! there's food available, a place for the kids to play ( trust me i know!). and not to mention the hobby shop. it's well stocked and you can get your electric needs taken care of! whether it's motors, batteries, whatever! and if you have one of those not-so- popular cars....let brad know right-away and he can have you a couple of spare parts in case you need them. oh yeah....tell/bring a friend. i'm sure there'll be stuff for swap/sale too! Happy Fourth Y'all!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry losiXXXman. i don't think i answered your question. both on-road and off-road will be operating at the same time. we just have to keep tabs on the Rx/Tx channels. but i think it shouldn't be that big of a deal. 98% of the rcer's i know have mad mutual respect for fellow racers. the other 2% can't spell mutual. LOL!

Yup, you guys got it right, July 11th at 1pm. Be there or be square :p Here's a list of what we will be running:

Stock, mod and novice electric touring
novice and pro nitro touring
stock and mod buggy
stock and mod truck

If there is enough interest I'll let other classes run. If you have 3 people, thats good enough for me. For now we'll say every other week or we may go once a month depending on interest. I know you guys can get burned out so I'll do my best to see that doesn't happen. Ok, entry fees. Bring 5 bucks for track maintnance and the electricity you use and we'll call it a deal. Sound good? Lets do it!!! see you there! Brad

Dave, for now the computer will not be there but I'll try my best to work everything out with Don so it will be there in the near future. For now we'll get reaquainted and do some serious laps in friendly competition. After all, we forget most of the time that having fun is what this sport is all about. If it stops being fun, its time to get out, know what I mean? I'm going to do my best to make these times as enjoyable as possible and really make some good things happen because of it, that I promise. I've been doing this for around 20 years and I be darn if I'm going to sit back and watch ANOTHER awesome track in our area go by the wayside. And that you can take to the bank.`

Brad,

Just went to mindblown and saw that you are planning more race dates besides the 11th. I I'm very excited about this and glad you are doing it. With all the excitement I'm seeing on this board, its almost surprising that the track ever stopped running. I hope that all can come out on these race days, and show there support for this track. If we don't, we will not have any place to race...

cheerwhiner
07-01-2004, 09:11 AM
well if the offroad track is going to be run, it needs serious work to be done!!!! It was just a puddle of mud on Tuesday and has a lot of grass growing in it.

Since there won't be a computer the first time out, I don't need to worry about a transponder. I'll probably bring all the cars and truck I own.

I'm glad this first time ISN'T a race because I haven't raced before. I'll have plenty of questions for you all too.

I am so happy this is going on. I was going to start going to Goldsboro, but that is a little far and that would be on Sats, the day I pretty much have to work! Besides, I can't afford to race every weekend, but every few weeks on a Sunday is absolutley perfect for me. If we could just get the dirt track ready for some bashing that would be great.

I need some hop ups on my "race" car before it is worth anything, I still have gear diffs installed but a ball diff and front one way are literally in the mail on the way. Next some better shocks and I should be set to start dialing in.

So by the 11th I should have a decent Tamiya TA-04 and a what I call a "demo" TT-01 that runs a 10 turn motor but has crappy everything else (like friction shocks!)

I'll bring the savage 25 too just in case...........

also I have free time on Monday and Tuesday afternoons all summer to help clean the track, set up stuff, ect if you need me, I'd be more than happy to help (just take some breaks to practice some)

Guys, It thrills me to see all the excitement! :) I have news.....There WILL BE a laptop with lap counting software at the very first event!!! I broke down and purchased a first class system because one way or the other, racing in Durham will be saved so help my soul! :D Don't worry about transponders guys, they will not be needed for several events. Be sure not to miss the drivers meeting at the first event because I will share with you all my plans and intentions as well as important dates. I will also ask for your feedback at every event so I can keep everyone in mind as far as future plans for racing in the area. Well, I am excited as can be and can't wait to see everyone there and just have a great time. Please be sure to promote these events whereever you can and please, I need your support BIG TIME.
Thanks in advance and as always, God bless.

Brad, good deal about the computer. Fun can be had without one, but you will get back the "racers" (not saying they are the most important) back like last summer. Plus, the computer allows you to actually know if your getting better. It's kinda hard to "eyeball" your performance each time out. Only the lap times tell the truth. Good luck with things, I will make it up ASAP. Me and Beasley were just talking about how we hated to see the place not being put to use.

Well if I don't head out to Laso R/C Raceway... I'll head out there to Durham on Sunday. Wouldn't mind doin some practice on a "different" track. Won't make it on the 25th though since I'll be up in Maryland doin the TCS. Would be cool if yall could get the "old" crowd from Chapel Hill back out there. I miss that place... hehe. I'm just trying to see where everyone stands as far as racing is concerned and I would also like input as far as when is the best time to run, what classes, etc. don't worry about transponders at this point, I will take care of scoring via my lap counting software. Thats cool Brad.Lil man and Ash are doing great Pete.Well ash is doing good, lil mans growing and with him being at the terrible 2 stage.......well you know the deal. But as far as the losi.....sorry im an ASSOCIATED man.Thats what i started out with in the late 80's (with the exception of my very first car which was a tamiya grasshopper super g and the BEST OVAL CAR IN HISTORY....THE DOMINATOR by custom works) was the rc10 graphite championship edition.Ive really never like losi that much and tried the xxt and the xxx-s.I have figured out the tc3 considering the last time i ran it it was on rails and won every race at the state race, im gonna stick with it.Pete if you want the car with all the upgrades, parts etc i'll trade for a off road vechile for my girl. Now as far as the road course (12th) and ovals......gonna stay with Barry and hyperdrive. The losi is a good car, but i just dont have the interest in messing with it anymore. To be honest..touring 10th scale doesnt exactly have me wanting to do it.Now ill run 12th and offroad. As far as this weekend ill probably get some people to come over to the house and will bang some walls.Oh one last thing...Brad i have 3 of the orion lap counter deals and im gonna keep one so if you want the other 2 maybe we can work out a trade maybe? Brad, easy there young Bison :p I was just trying to figure out what you meant by the "won every race" statement. You made it sound like you won mod touring, pro gas touring and stock touring. All I meant by the "some of the fast guys had trouble" statement was I remember very clearly that it was a rough main event and it seemed most of the guys in the top 4 or 5 postions behind you were playing a round of "bumper cars" with each other. Seemed like when anyone got up close they got hacked and slipped to the tail end of the lead pack. But you are right, its over and done with. You were on rails for sure, I don't deny that at all ;)

Guys, don't worry about the comm cuts, its on me :) If Pete's an arms dealer I must be NATO or something. I've got somewhere around 200-300 motors, arms, etc. laying around my shop at least. Maybe I'll drag out some used arms to sell on sunday if anyone is interested. I've got some that were wound by the greatest builders the hobby has ever seen. Anyways, thanks for coming out today guys. Tim, it was nice to meet you. Brad- thanks a bunch! I just ordered a few things express from Tower so I should have them this weekend. One is a 969 charger- hopefully the last charger I ever buy. I also got some tuned springs and another 128t spur for the ta04. SO I should be geared a little better.

Next month will come better shocks and maybe the monster motor- I would give the p2k2 to my friend I guess- he's building a Tamiya F1 car!

BTW:

Guys, Just wanted to let everyone know that, depending on weather, I will be holding a track work day on Saturday for anyone interested. I will be prepping the offroad track as well as moving track barriers, doing clean up, etc. This will be an excellent time for you to come out and see what the layout for Sunday will be. For whoever makes it out, I'll offer free entry for up to two classes on Sunday as well as private track time after work is complete to get cars dialed in. I only need two people so let me know asap. Also, For those who have asked, there is no need for transponders on Sunday, my lap counting software will take care of you. ;) I will explain that as well as tons of other details at the drivers meeting on Sunday. Anyways, Till Saturday (For the lucky two), take care. Brad

PS, Cheer, Try hard inserts, heck, if I've got inserts in the shop I'll give you all three hardnesses to try. you can keep them compliments of Team Mindblown.

Rodney, Track will be open at 10:30.

hey cheer...thanks for the pride -ups! try and get some mediums. pit, yok, take-off make great inserts. but if none of those are available then hpi pro mediums will work. also you're more than welcome for the assistance. it's pretty much why i still stay in the hobby. i enjoy helping people the way i used to get help. just trying to give back is all. :p besides, you made it very easy. everything i asked of you, you did it staight-away. and you didn't mind doing things a different way eigther.
and the main thing were the results. all the stuff we did to the car (and driver :) ) showed results. both on the track and on the clock! so keep diggin yo!

I'd like to get a hold of a really good Oval car, or an electric buggy in good condition with some extras. I'd also consider another electric touring sedan. Went out to the track today and laid down some total vegatation killer on the grass, weeds, etc. that are growing on the offroad track. Don't know how the track (again, the offroad track) will be on Sunday but you guys should do enough "damage" in practice to take care a lot of the problem :p . If anyone wants to come out on Saturday with a nitro offroader (A T-maxx would be grrrrrrreat!) and tackle some minor weed problems, come on out and thrash a while and I'll provide a suprise of high dollar value on Sunday to the lucky person. Can't tell you what it will be but lets just say "AE" ;) Anyways, Things will be set on go for Sunday, look forward to seeing everyone there! Hungate's in Cary (where I work)
Apex R/C Hobbies

I will go up to Hobby Masters today and take some up there (even though I don't like that place too much, we need people to come out!)

Pete- I got the chassis for that TT-01 yesterday and even though I can't run the 10 turn in it (I don't have a metal driveshaft for it yet) I will put it back together today and bring it so you can look at it. The hop ups I need require almost no dissasembly to install, so I really won't be wasting my time rebuilding it. I can run a stock motor without binding the shaft, but a freshly cut 10 turn X2 motor will rip that plastic shaft alive!!

well i got my superbrain 969, the spur gear I need, and the springs- the springs are the wrong ones (my fault not Tower) so I won't be able to play around with them. This is my first return ever to Towerhobbies. I JUST finished reassembling the TT-01, and Pete if you use it you'll need to supply your own motor, a stock one- I am serious about the plastic shaft, it will bind with less than a 19 turn motor! Hey Wes....you won't believe it...I JUST finished working on my old DS-10...a blast from the past! I think there's just enough foam left on the tires to make it thru Sunday...so testing is outta the question. The RS-4 Pro is in great shape...it's ready to go...and the T-3 is now very clean, new shock oil...treads a little "thin" but I think it'll be OK as some numbnut doesn't get any ideas about watering the dirt track down...LOL! Once you get on day shift..yeah we could meet a M'Ville Park and do some electric practice on those new smooth parkin' lots. Well back too work...the Stampede is next...just put a 14-turn in it and I wanna see how it kicks...the Green Machine 3 just took way too much time to wind up...and way too little torque for a bigger truck..wish me luck...

Guys, I first want to extend my gratitude to you all for the passion you all have for the Track and this wonderful sport we call "R/C". Without guys like you our sport would not exist at all. It was wonderful to see that turn-out we had today. From what I hear it was larger than what they had at Rosewood in Goldsboro yesterday (Thanks for letting me know that Mark, it meant a ton to me). You guys don't know what that means to me. Each one of you took your own time out of your day to come out and support a track that just a year ago was one of the best our state has ever known. Please understand that I will do my best to bring competitive racing and FUN back to our area. Like I said in the drivers meeting, I will not let racing die in this area if I can help it. I did this for all of you and it will continue as long as you let it. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support. I appologize for any delays and the lap counting situation today. As we grow so will our lap counting software, that I promise. For now, lets just go out there and have a blast together. After all, thats exactly what this sport is all about. Till the 25th, Brad

:D I had a great time today! I'm going to try and get some more people to come run the 25th. The only suggestion I would have is maybe move the start time up to 1:00 pm or earlier for the people that have to travel some distance to get there. :)

Another thing you guys might want to try posting some info on the track reopening on www.teamtrinity.com under tech talk, and also www.sgrid.com. I know alot of racers check there for info. Another good source for info and free promotion of the track is to get in contact with moderator of www.ncorra.com. He does a great job of promoting races and the tracks in North and South Carolina.

Adrian, I'm going to be going out for 1\10 truck with my GT. Things are looking iffy for the 25th now. I dont think I told you guys, long story short, I got T-boned and the car is totaled. Were down to one car, so I dunno if I can make it :(. We'll see as the date gets closer. I'm glad to see everyone had a good time, I spent my day sitting in the car for 14 hours.

Sounds like yall had fun. Sorry I couldn't make it out. Woke up around 2pm today, so there would have been no way I could have made it out in time. Anyways, what classes were run today?

You can also post up on www.rctech.net and www.hobbytalk.com . That's where I promote alot of races for Rosewood.

Well keep up the good work Brad. Sounds like you are getting things back together. I'll catch yall on August 8th. I have the Tamiya TCS race up in Maryland on the 25th. So have fun!

Guys, I have great news! Mark Painter (can't miss him, he's the guy that will be driving the X-ray and serpent 710 at our next event) was able to get in touch with Don today and at our very next race there will be an AMB lap counting system!!! Don is going to come out and hook everything up for us at the event. So, with that being said, everyone give a big thank you to Mark and remember to bring your transponders at the next event. If you don't have one I'll try to get one for you through Don if he still has any. If not, we'll get something worked out. So , anyways, I'm pretty pumped. Well, thanks again guys for the support, I feel great things will come from us getting together. Oh yeah, Cheer, great idea about your site. I could do it but if you want to go for it, do it! Another thing, we are known as "Triangle R/C" from now on (Our group). Brad

I guess my Triangle R/C Racing stuck then. Yeah I mean I do have some free time to piddle on a website, so I might as well! I obviously don't have a transponder yet either.

Here is what that TT-01 will look like next time

I might run it in the mod class (of course I would need foams to do that!)

Good job Mark! I will let you know about Richmond on Sunday.
Justin and I had some fun running in our own heat yesterday. He was a lot better in the technical sections than I was!!
Look forward to coming back on the 25th. - John - Justin.

Wow, good turnout it seems for the first day.

Marvin- Car pool on the 25th?

Brad- You guys running foams or rubbers. Looks like enough came out, and will come out in two weeks for "classes" with certain rules, whether they be ROAR or made up, doesn't matter to me as long as we know what. I expected some people to come back out, but I didn't think it would be this soon really.

Jimmy- I will work on Beasley for the 25th, wanna run some mod TC.

well the savage is gone, but not too far if I have second thoughts about selling it! Its down at Apex R/C hobbies if anyone is interested in looking at it.

If it doesn't sell by the 24th I will have it out there on the 25th too.

See y'all then (well maybe before- I might go out this Saturday before work if the weather is good! I think I fixed my shocks using CA because I really cannot afford the TRF shocks until the savage is sold. once that thing is sold look out for the mad hop ups on my tamiyas!!!!!!!!!!)

I can't Brandon. Not til the August 8th race. I have the Tamiya TCS race up in Maryland on the 25th. Racing the TRF415 and F201. Ron's goin to racing his F201. But I'm definately up for Mod on the 8th. I would like to know the rules too for Touring. Foams or Rubber. 10turn limit or non? Any body? Or sedans only?

Jimmy and Brandon looks like the mod class is going to be open any turn motor and what ever tire you want to run. I thank it's going to be like chapel hill come and have fun racing with very few rules. I hope it stays that way.
I'm not sure about the body.

had fun yesterday fellas! you all made The R/C Speedway what it was....a sucsses! (spelling) i know the word had gotten out, but i had no idea there would be so many folks out there. there were even some people from my old home track!!!

bAllen...i think that car has it's rightfull owner! GOOD JOB MAN!!
brad...well, i think you already know what i'm about to say so i'll skip that part. :p P.S> how much for three MVP's? thanks a million. (ooops i let one slip out.)

B...just bring it! the rules are already understood.....come out, have fun, race hard, (can be switched if necessary), leave happy! that's it!

bad...thanks for the loan on the car. you were a real sport!! esspecially after letting me drive it in the rain. we can get together sometime and work on that loose problem. had i not been on the dirt earlier...i may not have had a prayer at driving it.

cash... a real pleasure racing & sliding with you cuzin! (stitch accent) i tried to get out of your way but the rear end of my car was just floating. so i had no way of moving over. . to those who don't know chris cash, (to my knowledge) he is the winningest mod racer in the history of the durham/chapelhill raceway archives. he's a top competitor and a heck of a nice guy. and i wouldn't cringe to call him a class act eigther!

cheer....hate you had shock problems man! maybe i should've just passed you my spares. i tried to run the TT, but the drive shaft nearly flew out of the car! it looked like some kids turning a jump-rope  . but hey...we'll get 'em!!!

church & friend....glad to see you guys again. it's always a pleasure to have you all at the track! and thanks for the info.

regg - marvin....hope y'all didn't make the trip for nothin. it' just wouldn't be the same without you!! oh, and reggie....GO GET THOSE FOAM TIRES!!!! AND SOME BLANG-BLANG!!! marvin...i wish i could take SOME credit but i can't. i just love the sport so just want you all to enjoy the fruits of YOUR labor! you all made this thing possible! and without the support of fellow racers like yourself, then durham would be a REAL DUSTBOWL. lol just do me this small favor: pass the word. get as many people informed as you can! Durham's back baby!!! and you can best believe TEAM YO MAMA's gonna be all up in tha' mix.

jtn...remember this??? "hey dude we're still racin." i'm sorry about jumping you guy's heat like that. i truly thought y'all were practicing. LOL

sry my post was so long...i just had a lot to say. (and i'm probably not finished.lol)

mojo (see :p )....c'mon an bring it to The Wheels! YO MAMA's got a POWERPUFF switch just for YOO, and she's planning on sp*nkin' that ole monkey! LMBO

this goes out to the racer with the mission. can you please PM with more info on the mission. i told my buddy about it. but all i could realy mention was the one-way ,the a-arm, and the price. that's not the one that has the alloy motor mount?

07-12-2004, 10:12 PM
Yeah, Like Mark said, For mod its open rules as far as motor and tires. Stock touring is pretty much a ROAR approved stock motor with whatever tires you want to run. Novice touring is anything goes but you as a driver can only qualify for that class if you are new to the racing scene. Here's the downlow on who won yesterday: (Because of the rain out after the stock main, I score you as you qualified)

Mod touring: 1st Chris Cash

Stock Touring: 1st Brad Allen

Pro Nitro Touring: 1st Steve Church

See you guys on the 25th! Brad

Had lots of fun racin' yesterday. The best part was just being around the people that I have not seen in a while. No mad pressure, just good ole' racin'. Pete, it was cool reliving the past, talkin' with ya' about the old days at King, Big Kids, Atlantic Coast and Coopers. Also good to see Mark P. I cannot wait to race with him again while breathing nitro methane and arcing brushes. Might miss the next one but I'll try not to miss too many. Later.

Mika Hakkinen Considering a Comeback?
Written by: RACER staff
London, England – 7/13/2004

Mika Hakkinen went out of F1 a star in 2001. Will he soon be back? (LAT photo)

Mika Hakkinen, the taciturn Finn who was the last man able to beat Michael Schumacher to the Formula 1 World Championship, reportedly is considering ending his retirement. The significant inducement of a major-money offer from Williams is said to have added to Hakkinen’s interest in resuming his career.

The Williams-BMW team, of course, is desperate for a star driver as it braces for the loss of both its current drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher. Meanwhile, Hakkinen, who said when he walked away from McLaren at the end of 2001 that he was not necessarily retiring for good, recently met with his former boss Ron Dennis, who has first call on his services should he elect to return to F1. The Finn turns 36 on Sept. 28, but reportedly has been training hard to return to racing fitness….

"I met him and had a long chat,” confirmed Dennis, who added, “not only do I not know, but he doesn't know either," when asked whether the 1998 and ’99 World Champion was really considering a return.

Dennis, emphasized that there is nothing standing in his way if he does want to make a comeback. McLaren, of course, already has Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya under contract for 2005.

“I stress that no company, no individual, nobody, is impeding whatever Mika decides to do," Dennis said. "We discussed everything and both the discussion and the timing of any decision he might make is purely his. He sought an opinion, I gave it, as a friend, and he went back to Finland to consider it."

Hakkinen’s former McLaren teammate David Coulthard added fuel to the rumor, telling Britain’s Evening Standard, 'I think there's been a few things happening ... and he [Hakkinen] wants to [come back]. Whether it's realistic or not, who knows.''
