Since im into RC i wanted a rock crawler. Why?? to set up a track in my own room, made of books, and stuff like that and run throught it when it rains, and when i dont have time for serious bashing. So do you think super clod buster would be good? well its cheap, and seems as what i need, but maybe you have better thoughts, i dont have much cash right now, and dont want to spend to much if i would buy it, but i think it would be fun?? Is there alot to modifie when i would get it to make it a truck that i need?
Thanks!!

A stock clod can't crawl at all. To make it capable you'll be spending some time and/or money. Making you own chassis is fairly simple, but can take some time to get it right. Buying a crawler chassis can be expensive but will take out most of the headaches. There won't be the satisfaction of saying "yeah, I made that" though. A TXT is a pretty good crawler out of the box, but is heavier and sorta expensive. If you make your own chassis it'll cost you around $30 plus the time to make it, as long as you have a few simple tools.

if you want something to run inside while it's raining you will be really better off getting a losi miniT or a micro. that way you can make your own track at home and even race with some friends :D

well i have fairly small apartment, and i wanted to go slowly over all obstacles, if you say its possible to make my own chassis easily, my friends father has all tools to make it, and i have dremel, but i think it would be it, cause TXT is too expensive its $150 more :(

I would suggest the Tamiya TLT. Its made for what you are going to be doing.

like I said, the best for you would be to get a kit for the axles and go from there chassis wise. look at what others have done and design something along the same lines. you can also look on ebay for good deals on used trucks.

Yeah...I have to agree with the whole Clod ordeal here and say get a clod and make a chassis or look around for an awesome deal on one. I saw one before on ebay for $50! Yes, a Clod, nothing special, but a really good deal IMO! :D

For rainy days, I say get something along a micro. I dont have a -RC- rock crawler, but I made a real sick one out of K-NEX with 4-link front-rear, 4WD, 5AA, RC wheels JB'd on, and a top speed of about 1"-2" a second! No steering, but it does damn good. I made a nice set-up with some boxes, blandkets and other crap to mob up my bed. It gets boring after about a half hour, plus most things dont have a stiff enough surface for a 3 lb car! Everything falls if it can get any traction. Get something that is a little more agile for a house like a Mini-T to jump stairs or somethin, well what I suggest. A real crawler will add up pretty quickly. Motor and esc is 50 right off for cheaper stuff.

thanks but its that i really want clod ( would prefer TXT but its toooo expensive) and i wthought about getting axles but only place that sells complete axles i found is thunder tech, and its $65 each with bearings (used ones), and i think making chassis plates would be fairly easy, but making 4 link suspension would be worst :(

Here's a thought... Tamiya TLT-1. Great indoor crawler out of the box... even better with some minor tweaks (less than $50 worth).
A Clod is too big to run indoors. The turning radius of a Clod has never been its strong point... even with 4WS. Very hard to manuver in a confined indoor space.

Actually making a linked suspension would probably one of the easiest parts, well for me. Heck, you could even go three link. justget some links from a TXT.
The thing that really sucks about the TLT ground to axle clearance (sp?). It sucks!

yea, the tlt has no ground clearance what so ever.
and ADA, www.rc4wd.com sell axles too but they arent really cheap. makin the chassis should be fairly easy for you.

im still loking but with no luck though, i dont want a TLT cause i want it to be bigger, and runing on books and indoors would be just minor part of it, i really would rather take it to the woods and go on the logs, or like this,

yea, the tlt has no ground clearance what so ever.
$20 in parts will fix that.

Why not just save up for a TXT1 if thats what your really want. Saving up for it might take a little while, but in the long run you will be happier purchasing the truck you wanted in the first place.

thats what i thought, to mod the clod as i like it will be more than new TXT so i think ill start saving up for TXT, now i have about half, but the shiping to Poland from tower is $68 :( so its alot but thanks for help

There is nothing wrong with the E-Maxx. The best performing elctric monster you can get for racing. And it is way more durable then every body takes it out to be.

...And it is way more durable then every body takes it out to be.
that's the best joke I ever heard
spare me the nonsence now will ya... I own one and invested well over 800$ to just get to drive it without breaking anything. my friend has a savage, we jump the same, land the same, mine breaks, his scratches.

i dont want e-maxx for two reasons, i dont like the way it looks, and i dont want to race ( there isnt a nitro MT class here , so there wont be electric one for long time) and i just want to crawl with speed not exceeding 5-10 MPH :D
dirtbike
04-23-2004, 08:58 PM
the emaxx isn't a nitro its electric

If your only going 5-10 mph a E Maxx isn't gonna break. Speed breaks.
Put a spool in the rear of the E, gear down and you hava awesome crawler thats hard to beat. With a Scrambler(CJ8), Early Bronco or the new Rubicon or whatever body you have instant crawler. Not super creative, but it works well.
IMO
