Motor question

I have a Kyosho Waverunner. Tonight, I took out the stock motor and put in a Trinity Green Machine Pro. Only problem is, now the outboard cover halves won't fit without some serious Dremel work. Can I just run it without the cover? I think this will work, seeing as the motor's way above the water.

It will work but the motor will require cleaning after ever run.
