I saw somewhere on the web (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=44028&item=31856900722) that you can buy cheaper 550 motors that are of different brand (or no brand) to the Titan 550s which came with the E-Maxx that is of higher torque?
Can someone confirm this statement?

yes, i got them and I have yet to test them, check out the traxxas forums for more info, they cost 3.50 and are direct replacement with identical performance (or so people say)

Interesting - I love it when I know I can thrash my stuff without worrying about the cost of it blowing up :D Aaahhhhh.....back to the days of Nikko RCs...... :D

Oh one more thing - I am an electric newbie but am experienced in the fields of soldering - what is the purpose of the capacitors hooked up to the Titain motors? (reduce sparking? smoother delivery of power?)
What would be the typical capacitor values used for these motors? :)

ok, there's a few things you need to know, their ends come round, so you have to cut a piece of the shaft out to put the pinion on it.
here's a review from some guy that got them:

another review (and good other info)

their dyno testing: (which really shows they have more power then the titans)

and the original thread that first introduced them:

you will need these capacitors with them though I'm not sure what they are used for. try in the electric forums, someone will know.

hope this helps :D
put three capaciators on each motor. pos. to can/ neg. to can./pos to neg.
i cant explain why. maybe someone else will be able to explain.

anyone ever tried using the kyosho x speed monster 550 motors on their e-maxx? they are a little cheaper, but worth it?

I dont think they have enough tourque to handle the weight, let alone the 14 volts.

The Kyosho X Speed 550 motors are used in the twin force, which weighs about the same as a maxx and is powered by 14.4 volts.
They should be fine moving the truck, not sure if it will be slower or faster than titans.

The capacitors are to reduce electrical noise caused by the motor, which could interfere with your radio causing glitches, and reduce your radio range.

I still think the emaxx weighs more than the twin force. but you are right about the voltage.
btw: rcdealer, thanx for the explanation.

According to the April 04 and the March 01 issues of RCCA, the Twin Force weighs in at 159oz RTR while the emaxx is at 137oz RTR

I bought 4 of the AllElectronics motors, found the bonus prize about the round shafts, also the shafts are SHORT! With stock pinion, I'm getting about 75% contact with the spur. I'm waiting for my CVDs so I've not actually run the truck but I have put the motors in and pegged the throttle, they sound good. Hope they work.
